Hello and Welcome to QL'S Guide! I know I already posted earlier today on how to Register your nickname on Canterchat!
Link to it is here!
But for now I want to talk to you about how one should act, and roleplay in the new and improved Canterlot IRC
Irc is a bit different than the old chat, this guide will be broken up into 3 parts
1: Name Etiquette
2: Chatting Etiquette
3: Roleplaying Etiquette
It should BE obvious but you should NEVER use a username that is not yours, and when you first enter the chat we'd like you to do so with your canterlot username so we know who you are.
Never use the name of a Moderator, other user, or a RP Character that doesn't belong to you, this is stealing and also incredibly bad manners.
Another thing to keep in mind is to not constantly spam the room with name changes, this is rude, distracting, and makes it incredibly hard to keep track of everyone, One name change per hour is normally acceptable provided you don't break the above rule of using a name that doesn't belong to you
It is polite to try and enter a conversation, the chat is a space for everyone and nobody should dominate the conversation with their personal topic and excluding others from the conversation.
If the conversation is only for you and a select group of friends feel free to make your own room by typing
Otherwise you should try to include everyone in the conversation as nopony likes to feel left out!
Another point I'd like to bring up is link spam, linking to one or two pictures is fine (marking NSFW content as nsfw if you please) but if all you do is spam pictures you'll probably be asked to stop as it clutters up the window and is kinda annoying.
Language has changed here, minor swears is fine, like
"**** I really hated that episode" or "I really love Cheetos **** it!"
Is fine, but you should never aim a swear or curse at other users, it's not nice, flaming and abuse will not be tolerated in the chat, we want to encourage a friendly, positive atmosphere
Joining the Canterchat Rp is easy, you type
/list into the window and it should bring up a list of the rooms
In Canterchat Rp you need to only play characters you own, don't take on Ocs, or cast characters played by someone else, it's not very nice! This only counts to the public room however Be whoever you want in your own private rooms! However stuff in CanterRp is only canon with a cast character if they decide it is
Some users like to do "chat style" rp in the rp room and that's fine, but you should always check with all parties involved as some of us (me in particular) prefer paragraph style similar to the boards
Overall you should remember to be polite, courteous, and considerate of your fellow users, and treat them as you would like to be treated !
I hope this guide helped and I look forward to chatting with you all!
Sincerely the Queen of Ravens
After the Fall, the Ironclaws frankly just in no small words, vanished. All the deals, holdings and influences just fell apart and vanished into the wind as the clan and family was left to stalk in the shadows, struggling to hold itself together in an ever changing world and culture. For a clan that once stood among the greatest of clans, near equals to kings, it was an anti climatic fall and end.
But while the rest of the world forgot the Ironclaws, they did not forget. In fact, the Fall had sparked a sort of inner emotion of clan pride and nationalism. They worked to keep their clans history alive amongst themselves, each succeeding generation growing up on the tales of old and the dream that one day the Ironclaws would gain back what was rightfully theirs so long ago.
It would not be till in thirty five years ago that the Ironclaws would once more rise back to stand in the light of other high ranking griffons and families. It began in first in the military, with the rising of an Ironclaw griffon named after the founder of the clan. This Ironclaw rose into the highest military rank for years of dedicated service and action, becoming one of the most decorated of generals to Aquilla.
With this new rise and rank, the Ironclaws began to see a turn in their fortunes. With the prestige came new open doors for them to reestablish themselves as an influential family. Investments were made into the rise of the industrial works, and this new industry, along side trade deals and other economic handlings, soon saw a return of a semblance of wealth to the clan; and through it all the General Ironclaw worked tirelessly to return his family to their historic place at the top.
As the years went by into the current year and day, the Ironclaws made a complete about face in their fortunes, soon owning a wide spread and profitable ironworks, and airship art factories. It all led up, after both a heavy round of bargaining on price and the finding of old documents detailing their ownership of the land, that the Ironclaws at last could return to Castle Iron, their ancient home once thought lost to them.
And now after so long the Ironclaws stand back, at least partly, in the prestige and influence they once had. Though it is still not enough. Perhaps they are merely a bit more greedy then most griffons today, but the Ironclaws still feel they have much left to do before they are done and back in their proper place. Many griffons and ponies and beyond barely can recall who their clan and family once was, and while they are certainly wealthy they do not have the once great wealth of kings they were said to have so long ago.
But all of this is but a prelude. The Ironclaws know that they will reach those heights of power in time, and even beyond it. Their new patron, General Ironclaw, works tirelessly with both allies and family members, and that same desire and clan pride grows in every young Ironclaw. It might seem an odd desire in this modern age, but for the Ironclaws it is all a matter of pride, and while they are certain they can't get all they had back, they can certainly try to get all that the current era has to offer and they will do it with the same unbending iron will that their ancestors used so long ago to do it.
In the days of since taking a position in the Republic of Aquilla, after the fall of Griffonstone, the Ironclaw clan rose to a position of high power within the new republic, and even had several members stand in the council. Wealth, power and prestige were at their highest for the clan in those early days, but it was eventually that all this would end.
It was during the reign of Lord Ospery Ironclaw the 34th that the clan began to...fall apart. Lord Ospery was considered, and proven to be insane. He was prone to fits of rage and frothing at the beak, flying into fits where he would spasm on the ground and claw at the ground or attack anything near him with his claws. On more then two occasions he had seriously hurt or insulted important griffons due to his madness.
Lord Ospery was also notoriously plotting, always claiming it was his clans right to rule the Republic, an idea that his own sons and clan didn't agree with. They prided themselves on being loyal, and they were loyal to the republic. Luckily Ospery's madness made any plans he had backfire. Sadly his plans always ended up with him wasting money, eating away at the clans coffers.
It wasn't long before Ospery soon alienated himself from his whole clan during a heated argument with his two sons. In a fit of madness, Ospery took his cane to his eldest son, causing a deep wound upon his eldest sons temple. The younger one watched in horror as his brother fell unconscious, and Ospery after his attack had a moment of clarity and rushed to his son, cradling his unconscious body as he moaned and screamed, "My son! I have killed my own son!" It was in the last few moments before passing that the eldest son regained consciousness and muttered only a few words, "I die as a devoted son and most humble servant." Not soon after the eldest of Ospery's sons has passed away and the passing of his heir threw Ospery into a deep depression where he lashed out at anything, even his own family.
Ospery in his grief banished all his family from their home in the mountains near Rockwington. He drove them all out with hired mercenaries, and then used those mercs to keep any griffons away from Castle Iron. After that, nothing else is known and it is speculated that Ospery drowned himself in luxuries and mad ravings, squandering his families wealth till it was all but gone. Though never fully confirmed, it was said he passed away in the castle not a few years after the passing of his eldest son.
For the rest of the Ironclaws, things were only to grow worse. Banished from their ancestral home, and their patron leaving them with huge debts that took all their family wealth and more to pay off, the Ironclaws fell into a near destitution, living in the barest area of Talonopolis and beyond. Worse yet, the clan saw a mishap of its members passing away without warning. By the time it was all done, the clan had gone from twelve hundred members, to barely eighty five.
It was such a great upheaval for a clan that had once stood as a powerful force, and as the years went by, the Ironclaws and all their history and public knowledge slowly faded away. To the majority of griffonkind and beyond, the name Ironclaw was soon forgotten all together. Any knowledge of the family during the times after what it called The Fall is not written.
It would not be till modern times that the Ironclaws would emerge again as a public force.
When King Grover, and the Idol of Boreas arose, the Ironclaws were unsure of how to react to this upstart griffon who sought to make himself as king of all griffons. But the patron of the Ironclaw clan, Warlord Gyr Ironclaw, intended to find out and he took along three hundred of his strongest warriors with him to meet this so called king.
Gyr was known to be a vicious warrior, said to be cursed with the Blood Craze that was said to infect his clan. When he arrived to Grover's court, many warriors feared what the outcome would be. But the meeting went differently then most griffons had expected, even the Ironclaw warriors.
The warriors had expected for Gyr to take the Idol for himself, as was their nature as griffons, and proclaim himself king. In fact, many warriors and even some allied clans had made mention that Gyr should. But Gyr ignored these and instead spoke with King Grover alone, in the room where the Idol stood.
No one knows what the two griffons spoke of in those halls, for none had been allow privy to the knowledge. But when Gyr, and Grover to the surprise of his warriors emerged, they could see a look of pride and even contentment upon the patron of Ironclaw that had not been seen before. It was even more shocking, before all those standing in the castle, that Gyr Ironclaw, bent talon to King Grover and swore unending fealty to the king. If the warriors of Ironclaw were surprised, they were more so when Gyr demanded that every warrior and later every clan member swear fealty to the king. For the first time in their history, the Ironclaws had allowed themselves to bend to another griffon not of their own, and willingly.
In the years to follow, the Ironclaws would rise to become one of the most loyal of clans to the king, and the Kingdom of Griffonstone. It was grandson of Gyr, Lord Peregrine, who became one of the first leading generals of the united griffon military of griffonstone, with the Ironclaws at the forefront of the army. Their warriors even acted as bodyguards for the king, and the clan even had daughters and sons married with the royal family; though nothing that could give them any sort of claim to the throne in those days.
It was in those golden days that the clan grew powerful in the nobility, becoming one of the Great Clans of Griffon kind. But the golden days were not to last, as is the case with all golden ages.
It was during the reign of King Guto, that Griffonstone fell. When the monster Armimaspi came to take the idol, and in the fight to drive off the thieving monster that the current patron of the Ironclaw clan, Lord General Kestrel, fell. The loss of both the Idol, and their patron, was a severe blow to the moral of the Ironclaws. Like all the griffons and clans of the kingdom, the Ironclaws fell into a state of shattered hope and left Griffonstone, taking all their wealth and belongings and returning to their ancestral holdings near the mountains in the south.
It was in this time that the Ironclaws had seen just how much had changed in those days, for the holdings of King Guto had slowly began to lessen on the griffons in the south, and the rise of a new power had began. The Republic of Aquilla.
Needing something to fight for, now that the Idol was lost and their king broken, the newest patron of the Ironclaw clan, Lord Amur, began making work to ally his clan with the powers of the new republic. It took long work, but the history of their clan and the fact that the Ironclaws had, even while still serving the king in Griffonstone, had kept some of their clan in the south in their ancestral home, the Ironclaws soon found themselves in a role that was familiar to them, serving predominately in the military of the Republic of Aquilla.
Though they had found new power and position, the Ironclaws still held a great deal of loss over the Idol of Boreas, something that still bothers them today in the modern times. They feel as if they had failed their king and the empire of Griffonstone, and this feeling of failure pushed them to greater heights to prove themselves and to never fail again. But just as the golden age of griffons ended in Griffonstone, so too was the golden days of the clan Ironclaw to end one day.
But it would not be by an outside force. No, never to a clan that prided itself on the iron it claimed was in its blood. No their fall would come from within, from one of their own patrons. It was during the Reign of Ospery Ironclaw the 34th, otherwise known to Ironclaws as Ospery the Mad or the Insane Ironclaw
With the recent appearance of the new clan of Ironclaw, many other griffons, both rival clans and lone agents, all saw merely a new comer that was sure to be weak and easily beaten and their wealth and other land taken. It would be a mistake no griffon in those days would forget.
The first major conflict the Ironclaws found themselves in was against the Silverbeak clan, who sought to take the Ironclaws lands for the mountains the newly created clan called home was said to be rich with gems and precious metals. Not to mention the spoils of the warlord that Ironclaw and his warriors liberated and took as their own were a prize any griffon would want for their horde.
The Silverbeaks attacked quickly with all their warriors, expecting overwhelm the fledgling clan quickly and take their riches for their own. But where the Silverbeaks had expected to overwhelm and break the Ironclaws with their superior numbers, the invading griffons found a very different reception. The warriors of Ironclaw would not so easily bend and loss the freedom and power they had so recently gained.
With quick savagery, Ironclaw led his warriors to do battle against the invading clan. Their IronClaws, the name now given to their weapon attached to the stump of their removed talon, was said to give the invaders a shivering pause, as did the savagery that gleamed in their eyes as they fought. Though heavily out numbered, each warrior of the Ironclaw clan was a champion of arena battles. Each had one hundred victories to their name, each one more vicious then the last. As well, they had not escaped the darkness of their cell to be crushed by invaders, and their desire to keep their independence drove them to a fury that few griffons had seen.
The fighting lasted weeks, with both sides taking heavy hits, but it was said that for every Ironclaw slain, he took six Silverbeaks with him or her. And in every battle the clan patron, now calling himself Warlord Ironclaw, was at the front of the battle, his presence driving his warriors to greater heights of battle fury. It wasn't long that the invaders were on the retreat.
With their territory safe, other leaders and clans might have held back and rested. Regained their numbers and grow strong, but Ironclaw had never learned of the concept of rest. His life, and those of his warriors, had always been battle after battle, and to never stop. And so, gathering all the warriors he could, leaving only a token force to protect their home, the Ironclaws turned the tables on their enemies and invaded the Silverbeak clan holdings.
No true record remains that gives specific details of that invasion. With their army having been beaten though, the Silverbeak clan was helpless against the onslaught of the battle crazed Ironclaws. By the end of the invasion, the entire holdings of the clan now lay in the Ironclaws talons. And for the Silverbeaks, none can say. Some say that the clan was utterly destroyed to the last, and scattering any survivors to the four corners, as a show of might to the other clans who might see the Ironclaws as an easy target. Others say that Warlord Ironclaw showed something of mercy, taking in the fledglings and kittens of the clan as his own, as well as any male or female who swore fealty to the clan. Whatever the final outcome, the Ironclaws now stood stronger then ever, their iron never bending, never breaking, and forged even stronger with land, and most importantly tons of stolen and acquired wealth.
But the Ironclaws would not stop there. Over the following years, both Warlord Ironclaw, and his successors, would wage many battles with other clans for control of resources and to capture and steal wealth for their clans ever growing hoard. And this ever growing wealth brought other invaders, both from other clans, but also Diamond Dogs and even the occasional dragon.
It was not until the emergence of the Idol of Boreas and the rise of King Grover that the Ironclaws would rise to anything other then a powerful clan of battle crazed warriors.
The title seems like enough of an introduction so let's get to the meat of things, shall we?
Before Melanoma turned into my new ponysona (more or less), the gender was originally female and she was supposed to be evil. She aspired to wealth and power and the way towards that was through becoming a cult leader. Supposedly, she would know how to speak to ponies and choose her words, her tone and even her appearance to get ponies to do what she wants, get them to think what she wants and even get the to feel what she wants. She is a narcissist to her very core and cares nothing about the consequences her actions have on other ponies as she sees them as nothing but machines.
So what happened to this concept? Plainly put, I simply couldn't pull this off. Turns out I'm no good in RPing as a narcissist. Even in fiction, I need to justify cruelty. If I can't justify it, it's just going to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Given that, the concept got scrapped so Melanoma was made into a male OC and pretty much a blank slate. Other than the appearance (his spotted carapace is what got him the name), I have nothing figured out: no backstory, no place of residence, how he stays safe, lifestyle, etc. But maybe I can get a few ideas from doing impromptu RPs which could eventually flower into something fitting.
So yeah, this is pretty much where I am in regards to this OC and what I might be doing with him.
Alright, so this theory of mine is a little off the wall.
Well, let me give you a little idea about what I'm talking about first. If any of you are Halo fans, then you might know that the Flood were created by the Forerunners to defeat an enemy, and that the Flood was so powerful it took eradicating all other sentient life in the galaxy to stop it. (Kinda)
Well, my theory is somewhat similar. What if we were created by a more advanced, but physically inferior, race of aliens to win their war.
Hear me out.
In order to protect their research from the enemy, they chose a remote planet far away, what we know as Earth. There, they terra-formed it and seeded species from their part of the universe, species that were extremely deadly to them. Here, on this newly terra-formed planet they began their research, splicing their own DNA to create a weapon of mass destruction. They gave it a hardened frame that to take surprising impacts and repair itself (our skeleton), a shell to protect it against bacterial warfare (our skin. The aliens have thin skin and were susceptible to many forms of bacteria), a naturally evolving mind that could easily adapt to new situations and could figure out enemy technology in a combat environment (our brains, obviously), reproductive organs and a long life span (compared to the aliens) so that they could be left on a planet with no support, and so on and so forth. Research was going well, and everything was well on it's way to making the ultimate weapon. However, before it could be completed, something went wrong. The creatures became rebellious, something not anticipated. Their cunning and brute strength overwhelmed the aliens stationed here, blowing up the facility housing the bacterial experiments (spreading them worldwide). If any of them had escaped, it was just barely.
The creatures populated their new planet, learning, evolving, creating, but ultimately destroying. These creatures had been made for one purpose, to destroy enemy planets. Even with all of their intelligence, they could not prevent their basic instinct, their nature, from killing their new home world. Eventually, before the planet dies, the creatures will escape and begin to destroy another planet. That is what frightens the aliens the most. It is why they continue to check up on their failed experiment, but cannot send their armies to eradicate them. Hopefully, with a bit of patience and goading, they can eventually turn their creation upon their foes, but what happens after that?
So, yeah. That's about the gist of it. What do you guys think? Are we intelligent machines created by an alien race for war? Or, am I just as crazy as I think I am? Please, feel free to let me know in the comments below.
Well well, isn't this something that isn't talked about to a mind boggling degree?
Heheh, hello everyone, name's Avery. I'm here today (rather tonight for me) to just... ramble about Love and Romance and how it really... affects people. Now, I'm in no position to declare anything, I don't even have anyone special at the moment, but its still nice to think about these things to keep my mind calm and collected. However, with how many love songs I've been finding lately... it just makes me want to write a bit about it.
Though most people would just pass this by, I really just made this blog to... ramble. To let my mind go and just relax as I write something that's on my mind. And believe me, I've gotten a lot on my mind that I wish I would've wrote down. But that was the past and it's done for. But now, let's just focus on something that we all know and hold dear to our hearts to the end of our time.
I never really wanted to actually talk about romance up front like this, as I can barely hold myself together when I even think the possibility of me or one of my characters actually being in a relationship with anyone, I kinda... fall apart in a nervous wreck of everything. I usually need to walk away from the subject and take a breather most of the time! But... that's kinda my thing since I'm not used to the romantic nature of love since... well, I never really experienced it besides the love of my family.
Of course, say what you will, I can't hold myself together when things get lovey dovey. In that sense, I'd be one of those cliché people I always read in books. But really, I love to just think about the subject from time to time... it helps me keep calm honestly. Helps me keep myself together and not fall into depression most times, and you have no idea how many times I saved myself just by thinking about one of my fantasy crushes, heheh. It's kinda amazing really.
Though, everyone should have that special little moment to themselves, up against a couch, all cozy and warm, cuddling together next to a fireplace, it's all filled with a romantic vibe really. Something to be treasured forever, and cherished just as much. It's a great thing to do, to be with that special someone in your life, talking about events that have happened, laughing the night away, and simply being happy together. It's nice, and something I wish I did more with someone.
Heheh, oh no, I'm becoming soft now haha. Actually, now that I'm writing about this, let me tell you about my fantasy crushes. Though, you may know both of them due to popularity alone, I like them for who they are, well... actually love them for who they are. They both have that vibe that feels like they could help me through tough times, and I help them when the time comes. Then again... I'm right here, talking about this instead of maybe writing my story (But really, its hard to write it for some reason... I don't know why)
But they are Twilight Sparkle and Blaze the Cat. Ironic huh? A guy with a prince character happens to be crushing on other members of royalty. But... this was waaaaay before I EVER made any characters honestly. They both were the first ones I EVER really... found myself attracted to, mainly because of what they do. I felt, even back then, that they could help me with the stuff that I have trouble with. And I would always imagine the crazy adventures that I'd have with them... going through forests, the great plains, and relaxing with friends a plenty. It's also weird... I'm attracted to purple for some reason, never knew why. I guess I just like purple that much.
...Oh boy, I think I wrote enough. Hahaha. Well, this will be my ending statement for this entry. Even though I don't exactly make a lot of these, it's... still fun to let my mind ramble on. If you came this far, haha, thanks for reading. Though I will ask something... do you care if I started an Ask Blog for my characters? I always think that those lets people develop their character a bit more, with random questions coming from other people. Course, I wouldn't know if it was alright if I could do such a thing, which is why I'm asking this. But before I go, because I really need some sleep, how about you tell me your experiences with love and romance? It'd be interesting to hear them!
I hope you have a wonderful day, and a lovely night, until we meet again.

So this will be my first video game mod I'll be posting a review on. To make matters more difficult, I have not posted a review on its parent game, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, so there won't be a reference to fall on for this review. Here what I'll tell in my review is that instead of judging the game itself, but rather I will judge what changes this mod does to the game and if said changes are good or not.
According to moddb's page for it, the first official version of it was released December 2011, created by Goafan77. The standalone expansion pack, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion was released in June 2012 so it's likely the Enhanced 4x mod was originally a mod for the previous expansions of Sins of a Solar Empire that's been recreated for the new Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. This mod's goal was to create a more 4X experience, a type of RTS game where this game focuses on an empire or civilization by exploring, exploiting, expanding, and exterminating, by adding new features and balancing gameplay to accommodate these new gameplay elements.
1. There is a much more refined, larger, and better diplomacy system. One of the complaints that SOASE series has had is that despite being labeled as a 4X RTS game that placed a greater emphasis on your traditional RTS games action and gameplay while retaining the 4X elements, it focused far greater on the exterminate part and left the other 3 e's in the 4X game rather bare and inefficient in comparison. One of the core changes this mod did was expanding the role of envoy cruisers your faction has. Unlike in the vanilla game where you need to build multiple envoy cruisers to increase your relationship percentage with other factions and keep it there, you essentially just need one envoy cruiser as it can build embassies now in this mod. They are structures that act as Envoy cruisers that provide many bonuses to an allied planet's gravity well through whatever tech researches your faction gives. This helps you greatly as not only does it provide you a much more efficient and streamlined diplomacy game, but you can also spend less on pop cap on envoy cruisers and can focus more on the war effort. Envoy Cruisers role has also been expanded as they can send in spy probes and even debilitate an enemy's planet to your benefit, providing you more reason to treat Envoy Cruisers with respect and use more frequently in this mod.
2. Not only are there a greater number of artifacts for your faction to use along with increased chances to collect them on planets, but said artifacts can provide you with the ability to activate powerful neutral structures that can provide your planet with numerous benefits to you. Expanding on the vanilla's game artifact system, a gameplay element that allowed you to receive powerful bonuses and benefits to your whole faction in a myriad of individual artifacts ways, by increasing the number of the artifacts available for you to find, doubling a planets planetary exploration development to four save for home planets two (that don't have artifacts save for certain unique circumstances anyway), but the biggest change is adding neutral structures in gravity wells. While there are certain structures in neutral or independent controlled gravity wells that don't require such artifacts to work, many however do require these certain artifacts to work. While it causes problems in that due to the random nature of artifacts, which doubling the planet's planetary exploration development does help alleviate, it can be a chore to explore and find these artifacts and you may not even get the chance to use it, once acquired however, these artifacts are often worth it as not only do these provide with significant bonuses that aid you greatly in defense of a gravity well and you can acquire better versions of a factions own structures for your own use. To acquire these neutral structures, you must use your faction's colony frigates or explorer vessels to capture these structures under a new mechanic where there is now a delay to capturing them to reflect your faction's marines capturing the structure to bring to your empire's control.
3. There is a greater diversity to each faction in the game. While the vanilla game does a good job of differentiating each rebel and loyalist factions in the three main ones in Rebellion, this mod takes it further by not only renaming the factions to a different name, but it also expands on that by giving each faction greater flavors to their philosophies to better reflect on their difference from other factions.
An example with this while playing my favorite faction, Traders Economic Coalition (TEC), a faction of human traders under an authoritarian governing body that seeks to protect human interests by isolating themselves from other factions through strong defenses and tough warships behind a strong economy. To reflect this, they receive passive bonuses where their ships not only have larger hull point health, armor, they also receive stronger defense structures as well. Their home world comes a free heavy constructor, units that can build a star base in a gravity well, and it can deploy into a stronger than average star base unique to the home world for free too though it's upgrades cost money however. Economy bonuses, and most notably, they're the only faction that can build planetary defenses, defenses on a planet where your planet can actually attack nearby enemy attackers, ensuring that it will take more than a couple of siege frigates to bring a TEC world to it's knee after researching it. They're able to build multiple Novalith Canons, powerful planetary siege weapons that can take down an entire planet's population with one shot, more easily, and they receive huge defense bonuses to their armor and attack damage along with being the only faction that can build two star bases in a gravity well through research. Finally, their Titan, huge warships that can take on a small fleet of capitol ships on its own and is capable of providing plenty of buffs to your fleet or be an outright unit destroyer that can easily annihilate ships on it's own, is the Ankylon Titan, a huge support warship that provides defense buffs to it's allies, and receives passive bonuses to it's abilities if it is in an allied or your controlled gravity well where it can defend your planets from the enemy much more easily. The factions biggest drawback however is that because alot of its bonuses are defense based, TEC is a poor attacker compared to other factions and needs to build up strong defenses on its core worlds while relying on it's powerful late game, economy, and Novalith Canons to help them attack and defeat their enemies.
There are other factions in the game too in the form of Human Traders System (HTS), Orthodox Advent, Ascended Advent, Vasari Central Command (VCC), and Vasari Independent Republic (VIR). Each comes with their own flavors suited to their factions philosophies and you must learn to master them well in this mod.
4. This mod comes with its own mini mods to help add more to it's game play. One noted good thing about this mod is that it can add other mini mods to its game like doubling the number of research tech to provide even bigger bonuses to your faction, better enemy AI, more capitol ships, and other shenanigans to help enhance your game play experience.
5. This mod is noted as being probably the first mod to introduce hero units in the Sins community. One of the noted features of this mod is the introduction of something the vanilla game never had, hero units. These hero units work much like other video game heroes in RTS where they're much stronger versions of typical units and provide unique abilities and bonuses to your group of units or debilitate and annihilate the enemy much more efficiently. They even come with a research tech where you can actually remove the pop cap the hero units consume, coupled with their free resource cost, this essentially renders hero units free in this mod. This feature would get picked up on by other Sins mods, most notably Star Trek Armada 3.
6. Despite its age, it's one of the more supported and active mods on the game itself. Thanks to a diligent and still working mod maker and others helping it, this mod is still active and working. In fact just in June, the latest version of this mod, 1.75, was released.
1. There are bugs affecting it still. As you'd expect on many fan made mods, there are of course bugs though not terrible ones that I've seen still affecting the mod itself, most aesthetic issues such as the planet textures not looking right (notably on the volcano planets). Still it doesn't detract too harshly from the game and you'll likely not encounter anything really bad about it as it's a very sound mod.
Conclusion: In a popular mod making game as Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, Enhanced 4X stands out greatly as being among the oldest and best mods available in this game. With so many good and positive changes to this mod that help make the vanilla game so much better that some even call this 'SOASE:R unofficial expansion pack dlc' for just how good it is and how influential many of its changes are such as the hero units and other changes, this is a must own mod for any SOASE:R fan.
Question: If you have any other recommended mods for SOASE:R, let the audience hear about it too

The first person shooter video game, Doom 2: Hell on Earth, developed by ID Software and the Xbox live arcade version is done by Nerve Software, published by GT Interactive for the MS-DOS version, Activision for the Gameboy Color, and Bethesda Softworks the Xbox Live Arcade version. Due to being released multiples times, including being bundled with Doom 3: BFG edition as the latest version in October 16, 2012, I will instead tell you the first release of it, the MS-DOS on September 30, 1994 in North America and October 10, 1994 in Europe.
Due to the immense success of Doom, ID Software worked quickly to follow up with its sequel, Doom 2: Hell on Earth. Unlike the initial Shareware and Mail Orders the first Doom went through initially, Doom 2 was released commercially in stores instead. This lead to Doom 2 also being a commercial success. On December 26, 1995, ID Software released Doom 2's expansion pack, Master Levels for Doom, containing 21 new levels for the gamer to play with.
The story is that while Doom marine was busy kicking Demon butts in hell; Demons were invading Earth and wrecking the place up. Now back on Earth, with billions killed, the surviving humanity hatches a plan to escape this nightmare by building spaceships to escape to space, however with the Demons blocking the only Spaceport with a barrier, preventing any ships from escaping, Doom Marine must find a way to break the barriers on that spaceport and even find a way to beat back the Demonic invasion however he can.
1. The same awesome gameplay of Doom 1 still resonates well here. Those who enjoyed the first Doom's gameplay will be pleased to see that the gameplay in Doom 2 is kept intact. There are very few changes in this as for the most part, you're still running rather fast in non linear intricately designed levels where massive swarms of enemies are still cleverly placed, especially in the more open areas of Doom 2 where since you're on Earth, you will often fight in urban areas where places are open for you to move around in to reach the level's exit. To balance this, the enemies in Doom come in much larger quantities, and have newer and deadlier enemies.
For your weapons, you only have one new weapon:
Double Barreled Sawed Off Shotgun: The big brother to the regular shotgun. This weapon not only fires two larger and more powerful slugs at targets, but is capable of killing medium level enemies in one well placed shot, let alone obliterating low level enemies to giblets. It's balanced to the regular shotgun in that it has a slower firing rate than the regular shotgun and doesn't handle multiple low level enemies as well as it as a result, and it requires two shotgun ammo per shot so it can consume your shotgun ammo pretty rapidly through heavy usage so use it wisely.
There are also a few new items as swell such as the Megasphere, an item that supercharges your health and armor to 200 each.
In respect to the Wolfenstein games, there are two secret levels based on Wolfenstein here too, including a Commander Keen easter egg in the final one of the two.
2. I personally think the Doom 2 ost maybe slightly better than the original ost, and that's saying something. Thanks to Bobby Prince's background as a lawyer, the composer of the classic Doom games knew how much music he can sample and take from other musics without incurring the wrath of the Music business lawyers. This has led to many pretty awesome osts such as the first level in Doom 2's takes a sample from Megadeth's Hanger 18, The Demon's Dead sampling from Black Sabboth's After All (The Dead), The Demon's dead is my personal favorite theme in the entire game.
For your hearing pleasure.
3. Doom 2 still looks aesthetically pleasing too. Due to lack of any new technologies in graphics at the intervals of its release, there were little changes in graphics outside of newer hardwares allowing them to take advantage of increased performance. Still Doom 2, much like its predecessor still look impressive for a 20+ year old game.
4. The inclusion of expansion packs does help extend the life of this gameplay over its predecessor. With expansion packs in hand, Doom 2 totals to a huge 62 levels compared to the Ultimate Doom's 36 levels. If you wish to acquire both expansion packs Master Levels for Doom and Nerve Software's No Rest for the Living, Doom 3 BFG edition has that for ya.
5. Mod Support is just as great as the first Doom is. Thanks to the active Doom modding community, Doom 2 also has received the same good mod support that will help ensure Doom 2 can age well in this day and age despite being older. Check their forums and mod depositories for many Doom mods to enjoy.
1. The game's narrative is still rather simple. Much like the first Doom, this game does little with the story outside of including text speeches in the few intermissions in Doom 2 to explain the situation and what your character must do. Not a terrible or even a bad thing, but one I feel more narrative loving people won't particularly like.
2. If Doom 1 didn't convinced you, Doom 2 will do very little to as well due to having very few changes to its predecessor. Doom 2's biggest problem is that for the most part, it feels very much like the first video game in the series. This isn't a problem for those who loved the first Doom, but for those who wanted more in a sequel or wanted a better reason to enjoy Doom than what Doom 1 provided; this game will disappoint those few people.
Conclusion: If you wanted more Doom loving goodness, Doom 2: Hell on Earth will provide plenty of that with its vanilla 32 levels that can expand to an awesome 62 levels in total while you listen to some awesome metal osts and find some mods to play this game. Only those who didn't like the first Doom would not like this game due to having few changes that wouldn't convince you to pick up the Doom series.
Something interesting happened with Twilight Sparkle that made me think. She spoke of her events of reconnecting with a friend in Canterlot named Moon Dancer, one who she regretted dismissing as a friend years ago. What struck a chord for me was how alike Moon Dancer is to Twilight and as a result to me. We all share our love for knowledge, but beyond that Twilight and Moon Dancer seem opposites to each other. One chose the path of friendship while the other chose until recently to remain in isolation.
So that begs the question, am I more like Twilight, embracing friendship or Moon Dancer? Nothing against the later but gosh I hope that I'm not seen as some recluse who only can be seen in a library. Maybe I like Moon Dancer need to relearn the value of friendship. Friendship isn't something I can study though but must be experienced, so maybe to avoid being complacent with just my studies I will try to make more friends in town. Shouldn't be hard, right?
Your Faithful Librarian (and Seeker of Friends),
Rayman 2 is a platforming video game developed by Ubisoft studios Montpelier, Milan, Shangai (DS), Montreal, Casablanca, DC Studios for the 3DS, and Gameloft for the iOS. Due to Ubisoft porting the living crap out of this game in future consoles, this video game has been on PC Windows, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1 and 2, Dreamcast, Gameboy Color, Nintendo DS and 3DS, and Apple's iOS. Its original release to make things simple was on October 29, 1999.
Originally, this 3D adventure of Rayman was supposed to be another 2D video game in the same vein of its predecessor and first video game in the series and it was supposed to release for the PS1 and Sega Saturn. However, due to rising and effective technologies and techniques for 3D platforming after Super Mario 64's influential success in it, this idea was scrapped in favor of making it a 3D game. Concept art showing some 2D art designs, scrapped powers that were mentioned or redesigned such as the platform fist were put in the video game magazine EGM, and a beta version of the original 2D version of Rayman 2 can be unlocked in the Playstation version of Rayman 2.
It's story is that a large Robo pirate invasion force came to Glade of Dreams, Rayman's and its inhabitants world, to steal it's populace for slavery. Successfully destroying the Heart of the world and splitting it into 1000 yellow lums (or 800 in the Playstation and Gameboy color version), this greatly weakens the fighting power of the planet's resistance against the invaders and renders Rayman powerless and he was captured as a result. Thanks to Globox, Rayman's frog friend, and Li the Fairy, they managed to bail Rayman out of his prison aboard the Robo Pirates prison ship, the Buccaneer. Separated from Globox and hearing that Li, who had provided Globox with the Silver Lum to power Rayman up, has been captured, Rayman must not only save them, but also save the world from the Robo Pirate menace by enlisting the aid of a powerful being called the Polokus by awakening him by finding four masks.
1. The platforming gameplay is fantastic in this successful transition of the Rayman franchise to 3D.
The mid 90's to early 2000's was a huge transition period for gaming as many games in order to maintain relevance in this technological race for the best and latest stuff available to the ever evolving tastes of it's consumers. This trend was transitioning the original 2D roots to merge into the brand new 3D environments at the time. Many games that had fame back than suffered in this transition while others however transitioned beautifully and have even remained in the 3D world since. Rayman 2 is part of the latter as not only are the platforming elements and controls tight with Rayman's flair for gameplay such as his signature helicopter fly mode that allows him to descent in a controlled slow flight, flying energy attacks that have replaced Rayman's usual fist attacks from his previous game, and even includes an effective strafing mechanic where you can use it for combat purposes or even to move to the side better.
Its primary gameplay is to reach from the start to the finish of a level with as many items as you can in each level. These items are Yellow Lums that are necessary for you to collect enough to progress to the next set of levels through the hall of doors, and cages where if you get ten destroyed cages you can increase your maximum health to a total of 8 times. These cages contents can include yellow lums and other lums in the game as well. These other lums are red lums that heal you, blue lums that can refill a portion of your oxygen meter while swimming, green lums that act as save points in a level for you if you suffer a critical injury, and purple lums that help act as hook points for you to grab and swing from.
2. The level designs are great as well. Rayman 2's levels offer excellent variety in gameplay to you such as in the level Precipice, you're being chased by a small robo pirate fleet as they attempt to kill you again, get to go swamp surfing in the Marshes of Awakening, or even control and ride a pirate ship in the Iron Mountains. You'll find plenty of intricate and varied gameplay designs that will surely keep Rayman 2 fresh and entertaining throughout.
3. The graphics in this near 15+ year old game is beautiful and among the best designed games I've seen in this department. One thing I love about the Rayman franchise is how gorgeous their games are. This game is no exception as not only do the environments of the Rayman verse portrayed quirky but show a delightfully bright and vivid imagery in color and in appearance. This helps immerse yourself into the world of the Rayman verse as you can feel the environments in the game alive, weird, and aesthetically pleasing for most to enjoy. Seriously, I'm surprised I haven't' seen more Rayman fan art considering how gorgeous their games are unless there's a nefarious reason.
Some examples of how gorgeous the art design is in this game.
4. The story and characters are effective in this game. Returning Rayman is still the likable hero who now is put at his low after his defeat at the hands of the Robo Pirates. Despite his circumstance, he still keeps a cheerful outlook on things and is willing to do whatever it takes to save his world. Along the way, he meets Li the fairy, your helpful mage foxgirl who helps Rayman out by boosting his powers to better heights, and even provides two bonus levels that provide a relatively easy 100 lums in total for you to collect while restoring your health to full capacity and provide a powerful boost to your fist attacks that last after 3 hits from the enemy. Another one is Globox, Rayman's best friend who is a married frog to his wife Uglette and their dozens of babies, the teensies, and many more that would leave a good impressionable impact on you.
The story itself is actually an effective story where Rayman must find the means to awaken Polokus, the most powerful being in the Glade of Dreams to enlist him in the fight against the Robo Pirates while traveling around the world meeting all kinds of different creatures, some friendly and some aren't, while traversing through many treacherous environments to reach his objectives. Than at the end of the story, you'll face the leader of the Robo Pirates, Admiral Razorbeard in a duel to the death while he uses his mech to kill you. This entertaining adventure story can entertain those who do like a good story.
As part of the collectibles in this game is that the more yellow lums you collect, the more lore pieces you can acquire so you can better understand the world of the Glade of Dreams better. Some of the lore logs are hilarious to read.
5. The music is also good. The wonderful musical score in this game help match the aesthetics of the environment from the creepy and eerie Tomb of the Ancients to the energetic beat of the Precipice (yes that's one of my favorite levels in the game) along with many others you'll enjoy. Also of note, the N64 version has a different soundtrack from the other versions of Rayman 2 but both are entertaining to listen to.
For your listening pleasure folks. This is the PC version that I played on.
1. Bonus levels are difficult to achieve if you don't know how to do alternate rabid button presses well. If there is a problem I had with this game, its how due to my poor skills with rabid button presses as I cannot beat a robo pirate in a race, I have never beaten a bonus stage at all. Because of that, I have never beaten them at any point in my playthroughs. If anyone has, please tell me what it provides. However this critique of it is more a problem with my poor skill in alternate rabid button pressing. Fortunately, I do not believe they're necessary to beat the game to achieve 100 (or 99.9% in my case).
Conclusion: Rayman 2: The Great Escape is easily one of the greatest platforming games ever to have graced the genre. With its ageless art design, fantastic and varied platforming gameplay, excellent level designs that offer a good variety of gameplay, some quirky and interesting characters, a good story, and a good ost that help make this game a classic 3D platformer. Personally, if you want to have the best Rayman 2 experience, getting the PC version at GOG.com, the N64 and Playstation versions are a good way to find that as the hand held version don't do the game justice for how truly great it is.
