Age: young mare

Species: unicorn

Eye colour: bright gold

Coat: Lyra's coat is a pale green in colour. No real distinguishing marks are present and she only rarely wears clothing.

Mane/Tail: Lyra's mane is a medium cut, slightly unkempt and swept back. It is a pale cyan with a streak of white. Her tail is long, mildly unkempt and swept into a wavy shape.

Physique: Lyra's build is perhaps a little soft around the middle from all the sweets she eats, but is pretty close to average.

Residence: Lyra lives with her awesome fillyfriend Bon Bon in Ponyville.

Occupation: Magical, musical pony extraordinaire! (mostly a street performer)

Cutie Mark: Lyra's cutie mark is a golden Lyre. It represents her affinity with and love of music and her talent for playing such instruments.

Lyra happened upon her cutie mark fairly early in her fillyhood. Unlike some foals, this was not out of an overabundance of ambition or any sort of shame over her blank flank--Lyra has always been a carefree, easygoing spirit not prone to worry. No, this was due entirely to Lyra being a filly of near limitless curiosity and zeal.

Since her youth she was prone to wander, much to the chagrin of her parents. One cloudy summer day during a camping trip, the wide-eyed filly found herself exploring the Whitetail Woods all on her own. Lyra found her way deep into the forest, and came across many curious sights to behold as she trotted aimlessly ahead until suddenly something drew her full attention. Her ears picked up a gentle melody emanating softly in the distance. Intrigued and enthralled, the young pony galloped ahead until she happened upon a roving bard playing a lyre.

Ever inquisitive, Lyra approached the stallion eagerly, a smile on her face. She asked him about his pretty music, and the stallion, pleased to see the energetic foal taken with his sounds showed her how he played it some. Lyra was ecstatic as the music left the lyre as the bard touched its strings. Something in it affected her deeply and made her feel very warm. She decided then and there she wanted to make others feel that same feeling.

The bard helped Lyra find her way back to her camping group and soon she was on her way back home to Canterlot, but the encounter lingered at the front of her memory. Back at home, Lyra tried to craft her own lyre using an old horseshoe as a base, but it fell apart quickly much to the filly's disappointment. Lyra's parents, however, were quick to catch on to their beloved child's interest and for her next birthday decided to buy her a real lyre.

Lyra was overjoyed and immediately put her all into practicing the instrument. She struggled at first. The instrument was unwieldy and she just couldn't seem to make it sound like the one she had heard on that day. Frustrated and dismayed, Lyra considered just giving it up, but her parents continued to encourage her and she stuck to it. One night, alone in her room struggling to find a tune, Lyra began to sing the bard's song to herself softly when all of a sudden her magic underwent a sudden and abrupt charge.

All at once, she began to pluck the lyre with her magic, perfectly playing the song as she did. Delighted and enthralled by what she was doing, Lyra began to sing loudly, and soon her parents rushed to see what was happening. Impressed by the beauty of Lyra's song, they both clapped their hooves and embraced her when she was done before pointing out the new mark on Lyra's flank. Lyra couldn't have been happier.

History: Lyra was born in Canterlot, the only child of happy and loving parents. As a foal, she was something of a troublemaker--not because she was actively bad tempered or difficult, but because she was full of energy and wonder. She didn't always listen to her teachers and parents and often wandered off on her own. She was the sort of filly who wasn't one to ever stay in one place and had to see and try everything.

Lyra became a little more focused after an encounter with a traveling musician in the Whitetail Woods lead to her discovering a love of music and ultimately finding her cutie mark. Practicing her instrument helped rein in the wild child some and let her learn some discipline, but she would always remain the same carefree, inquisitive and fun loving spirit at heart. She spent the rest of her fillyhood going to school, continuing to learn all she could about music, practicing her magic and making friends.

As a young mare, Lyra attended Canterlot University, intending to get a music degree. She proved to be a poor student who couldn't stay focused on her classes, however, and soon dropped out. She wasn't too distraught from her failure though, as she still had her music and with it she was sure she could do alright. She took to busking and playing at small clubs, and made decent money at it.

Eventually, Lyra decided rather spontaneously that she wanted to leave Canterlot to travel and see the world. Eventually her travels lead her to stumble upon the humble, picturesque town of Ponyville. She liked the town, but it alone wouldn't have been enough to put a check on her wanderlust. However, not long after her arrival, she found herself dragged to an impromptu welcoming party where would ensue a certain fateful encounter.

Bon Bon immediately struck her as a special mare. Lyra thought she was cool, confident, fun, funny, easy to be around and also really cute. The first taste of some of the other mare's sweets just sweetened the deal. Lyra became rather enamored with her almost immediately, though her shyness kept her from acting on her feelings at first. Still, she came to stay in Ponyville and after a big win in the Running of the Leaves race found the confidence to admit her feelings to Bon Bon, who soon became her fillyfriend.

Lyra now lives with Bon Bon in Ponyville. She continues to make her way as a musician, playing lyre or other instruments in Ponyville square for the passersby. Sometimes she'll set up near Bon Bon's sweets cart to provide entertainment to those in line for her mare's confections. She enjoys an easygoing life with her fillyfriend, but still sometimes is struck by wanderlust and travels off into the world, sometimes getting roped into adventures and other decidedly weird situations.

Character Summary: Lyra has a very bright, vivacious and colourful personality. She is generally cheerful and upbeat as well as always good-natured. Lyra is very carefree and easygoing, but also a touch awkward. Regardless, she retains a very friendly disposition and could be described as a magnetic sort of personality.

Lyra is also a decidedly quirky mare. While she is exceedingly expressive, she can be rather spontaneous and hard to predict, even for those who know her well. She can be frequently silly and irreverent and generally has trouble sitting still. She'll often make faces or strike funny poses just to see if anyone notices, sometimes to the annoyance of others.

However, despite her cheerfulness and pronounced sense of humor, Lyra can be somewhat diffident in dealing with others. She seldom knows how to express herself very well in words and can at times get tongue-tied when she tries. She is not generally especially talkative, though if with someone she feels comfortable with she can have trouble stopping herself. She largely prefers expressing herself through body language or through her music as opposed to lots of words.

Lyra is also somewhat claustrophobic and hates being closed in or confined in general. She has trouble forgiving those who go after those she cares about and can become temperamental in dealing with them. She can be somewhat overprotective of Bon Bon, who she treasures. She can also be somewhat lazy as well as stubborn or moody at times.

As a musician, Lyra has an abundance of playful confidence. She still loves her lyre best, but through her years she has figured out how to play a few other stringed instruments including harps and guitars. She also has a pleasing singing voice which she is never shy to show off when she can. While it is typically the sound of gentle, dulcet ballads leaving Lyra's strings, she herself loves all kinds of music, even the popular modern sounds hot with the big city club scenes. Music is special to her and she just generally loves being around it.

Lyra has fair talent for magic. She is adept at using it to dexterously pluck her instruments. She hopes to someday get good enough to play multiple instruments at the same time and become a one mare band, but presently doesn't have near the level of concentration to do so. Though no magical genius, she has more talent than one might expect looking at her.

Outside music and magic, Lyra has a number of different interests she enjoys. She absolutely adores sweets and is happy to taste test all of Bon Bon's new products. She enjoys theatrical performances and appreciates art. She also really loves spending time around nature and especially enjoys traveling and seeing new things, and is always quick to relate the stories of the exciting things that happen to her to those who ask.
