Velvet ropes and Silver tongues [Ballroom][Open]

The doors matched what lay beyond. If a pony were famous or wealthy enough (usually both) they could easily slip past the ornate entrance. It took more than a 'please' or a few bits to get through the velvet ropes, this part of the gala really was reserved for VIPs.

While everypony else mingled in the dance hall or gardens, Maximilian made a beeline for the ballroom. Fresh from the Appleoosan dust, he sported a startingly white tuxedo with powder blue vest underneath. His time in the frontier town opened him up to the idea with mingling amongst the public, though he still preferred the post interior and likeminded company.

A drink levitated out in front of him, held in front of his chest. The blonde unicorn looked around the expansive room, apparently one of the first to arrive. As he looked around, his dirty blonde mane tussled about, a bit longer than he was accustomed to.

Well, punctuallity was always my strong suit...

The pristine ivory carriage pulled up to the ballroom entrance, decked out in silver and gold and ribbons and all sorts of expensive adornments whilst being pulled by two royal guard stallions. The sheer amount of money this ensemble would have cost to any normal pony was tripled when the lone occupant of the carriage stepped out. Draped in diamonds, diamonds and black and beautiful red and more black, was Spotlight, actress and adult novel author mare extraordinaire. Her long mane was left unstyled, but instead, fabulously combed and shone with the same vivacity as her gloriously glossy white coat.

The pegasus waved a farewell to her expensive transportation and strutted across the threshold of the grand double door entrance as if she were Celestia herself. Her wings spread wide as she expected to see a gaggle of unsuspecting ponies, wining and dining before turning to blind themselves with her greatness. Spotlight had arrived.

"...WHAT?"

Aside of the band and the servers, a lone unicorn stallion stood with his drink held in a field of magic, looking left to right in what Spotlight was rapidly becoming sure of was her own incredulity at the lack of ponies and others milling about, unlike in the other, more populated areas.

"What gives?" She shouted, stomping a jet-leather clad hoof against the soft red carpet. "Were invitations given out this year? Are there only ponies who matter allowed to come this time?"

Approaching the VIP room was an unlikely pony couple. Dr. Stable, the tan furred unicorn physician decked out in a tuxedo, and Ms. Harshwhinney, the orange furred high society mare dressed in a very stunning purple dress.

"Ms, Harshwhinney, remind me again of how you roped me into being your escort tonight?"

"I appealed to your sense of honor, Doctor. Besides that, the stallion I wanted to be with said, "ENOPE!"

"What was that last part you just said?"

"Oh, nevermind. After all, THIS is a VIP room and..." Ms. Harshwhinney stopped in midsentence when she spotted Maximillian and Spotlight in the room. "Look over there, Doctor! Prestigious ponies! Let's mingle!"

"As you wish," the physician unicorn said as he was led up to the others by a smiling, bubbly Ms. Harshwhinney.

"Good evening! My name is Ms. Harshwhinney and this is Doctor Stable, a leading physician from Ponyville. Are you two having a good time?"

The stallion turned towards the outburst, his eyes narrowing at the rather uncouth pony. 'Only ponies that matter?' Surely this mare didn't think herself part of that group? With a subtly fake smile, Maximilian faced the mare.

"Miss, are you sure you're in the... uh... right section? The Ballroom is a bit empty, yes, but it IS VIP only..."

Before he could add anything else, two more ponies approached. These two looked semi-decent, and the stallion turned his attention to them. They politely introduced themselves, and Max appreciated the pleasentries.

"Evening, I'm Maximilian Rockefilly JR, pleasure to meet you both. I'm glad that the room has been reserved, hopefully we'll avoid last year's disaster... I'm having a fine time so far, yourselves?"

Bramble Rose had been to the Gala before, and had always planned on going back. He loved how a good suit made him feel ... as if he wasn't awkward and undersized, but instead suave and handsome. He had actually danced with a lovely mare without tripping over his own two feet for a change, and after having asked her to dance himself! Too bad she'd had to move away after that... *sigh*

This was not how he'd pictured going back.

Glitzen had come to him with a request from his business associate - to show up at the Gala to talk with some investors in a new line of clothing. All well and good! To bring a model with to showcase some of Glitzen's work. Also a great idea! But he had asked for a very specific model ... Silk Scarf.

Which left Glitzen with a slight little problem... how to tell Max that the model who had helped convince him to sign Glitzen to a contract ... didn't exist? Quite obviously, one didn't. One continued in a deepening web of deceit that made Bramble's stomach roil. And involved the use of certain blue flowers that had an effect that *other* ponies seemed to find very amusing ...

Silk Scarf stepped into the VIP lounge, and her gown was splendid. Deep purple, in a series of gauzy layers that rippled and caught the eye as she walked, but covered over with an opaque cover that did away with any idea that it might not be a decent outfit for gentle company - just enough of those many gauzy layers peeking out from underneath to be a splendid accent, not a main concept, as if she was walking with her own mysterious mist following her hoofsteps. The decorations were swooping and casual arcs of a slightly less dark blue and a deeper black that looped in and out, creating a mysterious pattern that was subtle enough to ignore, yet intricate enough to catch the eye if it lingered on the pattern a moment too long. And of course, the pure white silk scarf exploded out from the outfit, matching her lush and perfectly styled mane and draped over one shoulder.

It wasn't nearly as populated as she'd expected. Only a few ponies were trailing in yet, and she must not be quite so fashionably late as she had hoped. Still, she walked with head high and her scarf drifting along with her, following her mother's rules. When you walk into a room, you may not own the room, but do not demonstrate the slightest doubt in your absolute right to be there. This doesn't mean to be rude or uppity - treat other people with respect. But sometimes, that means pretending they're not there - servants are supposed to be silent. Respect the work they do by treating them that way, if you're talking with another pony. However, if you wish a request, look them in the eye and say 'please', and a soft 'thank you' without looking at them is always proper.

Silk Scarf didn't bother displaying her ticket, she just stepped past the polite servant with the faintest of nods as she caught his eye with a warm smile that said, "you're doing your job perfectly, don't let me bother you," the unicorn showing utter poise itself. To the next servant, her practiced eye ran over the preferred drinks, and she simply requested, "one tangerine strawberry mimosa, please," with a smile of her own for him, and then ignored him as she walked on, spotting the gold mane and white coat of Max easily in the sparse crowd.

"Ah, Maximillian," she said warmly as she reached him. "So kind of you to profer your invitation to us. I don't have the words to tell you what this means to me." She smiled to him and didn't even look as she plucked the approaching mimosa from its tray and brought it over to take a sip, then gave an approving nod that served as a thank you to the servant she couldn't even see behind her.

Ms. Harshwhinney looked stunned at Maximillian's rebuke. Her shock soon turned to fury.

"Now see here you conceited plow horse!" the orange mare roared. "Do you know WHO I AM? I'm Ms. Harshwhinney, THE official Equestria Games Inspector! I and my escort DO have tickets for this section, thank you very much! I am a VERY important pony here in Canterlot, not that you'd ever notice, you snob! Princess Celestia will hear of your insults towards me! Come along, Dr. Stable! We're better than that oversized talking statue!"

The unicorn physician stood completely shocked at the Earth mare's outburst. His mouth gaped open and his eyes bugged out at the sheer force of Ms. Harshwhinney's words.

"Don't just stand there! Do something!" she shouted.

"I've never been so embarrassed in my entire life," Dr. Stable muttered, 'facehooving' right on the spot.

Max reared back, completely caught off guard by the mare's outburst. She thought he was speaking to /her/ in such a way? Did she not /hear/ the comments that came next? This mare had no place to speak to him in this way! He had more power and influence than this mare could ever hope to have! But, it would be simply rude to respond in the same way she had. No, he would explain himself, and hopefully defuse the situation. He simply listened, watching with a calm expression as she asserted herself and made all sorts of worthless threats. When Maximilian provided countless bits to public works projects with no compensation, who would Celestia listen to? When she finally finished flapping her gums, Maximilian offered a smile and a bow.

"My dear Madam, my humblest apologies. I was referring to the mare over /there/" with a trimmed hoof he gestured towards Spotlight, the mare who had acted so uncouth earlier.

"Of course I know who you are! Only a pony without any passion for current events would be ignorant of you and your accomplishments!" He would have loved to continue apologizing to the defensive mare who took far too many things personally and had NO eye for fashion whatsoever, but a pleasant surprise came his way instead. He shot a sympathetic look to the doctor, and managed to offer a few words. "Sir, the night is young. Plenty of time to move on, no?"

"Miss Silk! Darling! I'm so glad you could make it! Of course I had to invite my two newest partners to the gala, think nothing of it. It would have been a rather dull event without your presence!"

His attention shifted completely from the couple to the beautiful mare. Maximilian stepped closer to her, distancing himself from the whiner and the doctor.

Fuchsia Blooms was in the castle gardens, enjoying the evening air and the beautiful night blooming flowers. She paused in front of the french doors leading to the ballroom. She knew that she would never be allowed inside, it was for VIPs only and she was merely a floral shop keeper. But it wouldn't hurt to take a peek at the glamorous ponies inside, right?

Since she didn't move in the same social circles, Fuchsia didn't recognize any of the important guests. Except... that one in the wafting purple gown looked familiar. It almost looked like her acquaintance Bramble Rose, the very nice pony who sometimes made deliveries to her shop and stopped for conversation. But he was a stallion, and the pony in the ballroom was definitely a mare. Maybe it was his twin sister? She would have to ask when she saw him. "Oh, I hope he is here. I'd love to see if he can dance as well as he talks." she thought to herself.

Speaking of dancing, the music wafting into the garden from the dance hall was calling her name. Surely she could find a few willing partners to waltz the evening away. Or tango, or cha cha, or swing!

Now it was Ms. Harshwhinney who felt deeply embarrassed. How could she have made such a mistake? How could she not realize she wasn't the one Mr. Maximillian was addressing? No wonder her escort was facehooving.

"It is I who owe YOU an apology, sir," a humbled Ms. Harshwhinney said as she lowered her head. "I deeply regret all of the horrible things I said, the way I said them and how I misunderstood whom you were really talking to. I beg for your forgiveness, you and the others in this room."

"Now at least, you've done the right thing," Dr. Stable said calmly, placing a gentle hoof on the shoulder of the orange Earth mare.

"I only hope it's not too late," she whispered back to her date.

Silk Scarf

Silk Scarf stared at the angry mare in surprise, feeling as bewildered as Max seemed to be... but thankfully, she had been trained in just such a situation. There is no better response to fury than a lack of response.

"A pleasure to have met you, Miss Harshwhinny," she said smoothly, then turned away to smile to Max, while her stomach churned nervously. "Surely not," she replied to him. "This is, after all, the premiere event in all of Equestria! Though I imagine after how many years you've been going, it must have worn out its luster."

She looked around. "And the music just isn't as good as our last party!"

Doctor Whooves

A brown stallion with a slicked-black brown mane and earing a fine black tux with a tophat came pushing past Fuchsia. "Of course I dance as good as I talk!" he chirped cheerfully, rattling the door. He frowned, and nosed into his breast pocket to pull out a little screwdriver and started fiddling it in the lock. "And I talk a LOT, and usually it's pretty good, though sometimes it's just babbling to keep anyone else from distracting me while I'm thinking realy hard, but usually it's just really good stuff that's coming out way too fast for my mouth to keep up."

The door popped open.

"come, let's - Oh, wait. Are those your baby's breath?" He leaned up to her mane, sniffed. "Ah, yes, they're real. Nevermind, then! Were you coming in, or were you just walking out here?"

Fuchsia Blooms blinked in surprise. She hadn't expected anypony else to be right next to her in the gardens. Much less a stallion like the one currently jimmying the doors to the ballroom open.

"I, um... I'm not important enough to be in there with the other VIPs. I was actually headed over to the dance hall just now." She paused a moment. This new stallion claimed he could dance. And there was music playing in the ballroom. An adventurous spirit took ahold of her.

"What the hay. Yes, I'm coming in, but only if you really can dance as fast as you talk. I doubt that the bouncers will let us stay for more than one reel around the floor anyway."

Doctor Whooves

Fuchsia's words brought Whooves up short. He stopped himself halfway through the door, for the first time giving Fuchsia his full attention, closing to a foot away and peering her right in the eye. "Really?!" he asked, a frankly disbelieving tone in his voice. "How very peculiar. I've been from one side of Equestria to the other, and in a lot of neighboring kingdoms as well, and in all that time, I've never once met a pony who was any less important than anypony else." He tilted his head and looked Fuchsia carefully up and down. "Hrm..." he murmured appraisingly.

Then he seemed to toss all those weighty thoughts away, "Anyway, yes, of course! Dancing!" He clip-clopped a quick soft-hoof ending with him taking his hat and gesturing Fuchsia inwards with it. "Speaking of doing distracting things to keep anypony from noticing what I'm up to! Were we talking about that? Trixie! You coming?!"

Trixie walked towards the VIP door with a resigned expression. The azure colored unicorn was adorned with a deep blue gown that had a variety of light blue and purple stars covering it, clasped with a little hourglass at the front of her neck. It was from Whooves of course, as Trixie never carried a gown with her on her travels. She didn't even know why the Doctor had a closet full of dresses, but at this stage of their partnership, nothing surprised her.

She walked past the eccentric earth pony, and the pretty cute unicorn mare that was standing beside her, noise in the air sniffing, "If you're done flirting, Doctor, we do have work to do..." That must be what he is doing, after all what other reason did he need to stand there and laughably attempt to jimmy open a door when she could open it so easily with her own lock picking spell. He just had to show off of course! He was obviously doing it just to try to make her jealous. As if she cared what mares he flirted with! It annoyed her to think that he would dare to think such things about her!

Trixie was about to use her magic anyway just to teach Whooves a lesson when the door sprung open. About time! "Ladies first!" She brushed Whooves aside as she followed Fuchsia into the VIP lounge, finally a place worthy of her. "The Great and Powerful Trixie.. Has Arrived!"

Fuchsia giggled at the brown earth pony. He certainly was charming; in an odd sort of way he reminded her of her father, Fullerton. He was also a rather gregarious stallion who traveled all over Equestria, and always came home with fantastic tales to tell. Not waiting to be asked again, she stepped through the open door into the ballroom.

Fuchsia Blooms had lived in Canterlot all her life. While she was solidly middle class, she had observed the socialite ponies at garden parties and other soirees and knew just how to act around them. Raising her chin, she half closed her eyes and looked through her lashes. She walked with the grace and poise of a classically trained dancer, so her hard soled shoes only made the faintest clicks on the marble floor. Using her magic, she accepted a pink cosmo from the tray of a passing waiter, and nodded slightly towards him in a silent gesture of thanks. Turning her head, she observed the other ponies in the room while sipping her drink. She was quite sure that none of them would recognize her, which could be both a blessing and a curse. If necessary, she could drop a few names and bluff her way though light conversation. This was the opportunity of a lifetime, she wanted to make the most of it.

"The Great and Powerful Trixie.. Has Arrived!" Fuchsia hadn't even noticed the charming stallion's companion until she burst into the ballroom behind her. She turned around and tried to look only mildly interested. In fact, she was madly curious to know who this Great and Powerful Trixie was. The blue unicorn seemed almost as eccentric as her earth pony companion in the tuxedo. "Oh, this is going to be an evening to remember, that's for certain." she murmured over the lip of her glass.

The stallion sipped his drink before shaking his head. "Nonsense, Miss Harshwhinney! No harm, no foul. We're here to enjoy a party, yes? So let's move on and have some drinks, make some friends!" he offered a genuine smile before turning back to Silk Scarf.

"Quite right, Miss Silk, the music leaves something to be....

Max would have finished his sentence, but just then a few more ponies entered the room, and in a far less respectable manner than anypony previously. The boisterous mare elicited a roll of the eyes, and the mare in front of her wasn't even worthy of mention, but that stallion. A cold sweat broke out on the Rockefilly's brow, and he fidgeted his way to Silk's side, gazing nervously towards the Doctor. Not that crazy stallion again! Surely he wouldn't try to torment him like last time... Max had changed! For the better, most would argue!

"Silk, do be mindful of that one, he's... a bit enthusiastic..."

Boy, was that an understatement.

Both Ms. Harshwhinney and Dr. Stable felt a measure of relief that Maximillian was so forgiving and understanding about her outburst.

"Thank you, Mr. Maximillain," the orange mare neighed, "that's what the Grand Galloping Gala is all about!"

"In that case, Ms. Harshwhinney, perhaps we should mingle with those other ponies that have entered the room as well," Dr. Stable said as he turned to see Doctor Whooves and Fushsia Blooms enter as well as Trixie's rather loud entrance.

"You go on, I'll be over here," the well dressed blonde Earth mare said as she followed Maximillian over to the bar. Meanwhile, Dr. Stable approached the new newest arrivals.

"Dr Hooves, I presume," the physician unicorn stallion said, extending his hoof to shake as he looked at Fuchsia, "I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting you, miss. I'm Doctor Stable."

After greeting them, he then turned to Trixie. His eyes narrowed as an angry look came upon his face.

"So Trixie, the Princesses actually allowed YOU in the Gala after your attempted hostile takeover of Ponyville? That magical force field of yours frightened many of my patients at the hospital! What have you to say for yourself now?"

Doctor Whooves let out a soft laugh as Trixie pushed past, following after into the ballroom, his eyes swiftly scanning over the room - examining the flower arrangements, the ponies, with a quick and calculating eye.

"What?!" he said, suddenly aware of somepony talking to him! "Oh! Yes, hello Doctor!" he smiled brightly. "Oh, don't worry about her. She's just trying to help! She's really getting much better at this sort of thing."

He started to say something more, but then spun to the side, dropping down to one knee to peer across the floor. "Oh! There! Did you see something move?"

Silk Scarf

Silk smiled politely to Max, a smile which started to become a bit strained when suddenly his face went through the most peculiar shifts of emotions. Her head tilted to the side, and she turned, finding him bumping up against her as if he was actually scared of something. An innocuous looking stallion, though she recognized, of course, the Great and Powerful Trixie from when she'd nearly conquered Ponyville, and then-

Silk's face went through the same series of emotions as Max's just had - her mouth dropping open, a cold sweat touching her temples. Fuschia?! What is Fuschia doing here?! It was only her mother's years of training that allowed her to recover her poise and resume the mask - but that didn't do anything about the raging panic just under the surface. Don't let her see me don't let her see me don't let her see me- "Oh, well," she murmured softly, "Perhaps, ah ... we should go explore the opportunities at ... the refreshments?"

Trixie stood up on her hind hooves as she announced her presence in the VIP lounge, small, colorful streams of light flew away above her and exploded in a colorful cornucopia of sparkles as her horn glowed a bright purple. Always make an entrance, and always act like you belong there even when you don’t, because as long as you act like you do, ponies will think you do. Rules Trixie always stood by and she was sure they would work just as well now.

Unfortunately it appeared she wasn’t universally welcomed as one pony, who through his anger at Trixie’s presence revealed himself to be a Ponyvillian. Her first instinct was to tell this doctor unicorn off, maybe even deride his skills at making sure his patients weren’t better taken care of.

However, he was right, as much as it pained Trixie to admit it. She did act like an awful dictator, and although much of her action was due to the corrupting influence of the Alicorn Amulet, it was still the desire for revenge that drove her to do those awful things in the first place.

What shocked her was Whooves’ impromptu defense of her; Trixie had to admit she was a little bit flattered by it. Just a little bit, not like she would give him the satisfaction of knowing that. Regardless, she felt she had to try and be penitent, as uncommon and humiliating as it may have felt to her. Trixie took off her hat and her eyes darted around for a moment before looking straight at the bespectacled unicorn “Look, Doctor… Stable, is it? The humble and apologetic Trixie is… Sorry for the damage she caused your town, and for scaring your patients.” There, that was acceptable right? Now that Trixie thought about it, it was far easier to apologize to Twilight; yet again she is much cuter than this guy.

As if on cue, Whooves noticed ‘something’. Trixie’s horn glowed brightly once again as she sensed for any unusual magic around her. Before the azure unicorn’s eyes appeared a faint trail of residue magic left behind by their target as it looked to have criss-crossed all over the length of the ballroom floor. Trixie wrapped her forehoof around the unsuspecting Fuchsia and gave an enthusiastic hug, “aha! See! The Great Detective Trixie has found it, can you see it?!”

"I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting you, miss. I'm Doctor Stable."

"The pleasure is all mine, Doctor. I am Fuchsia Blooms." she replied, hoding one forehoof out to the doctor in greeting. Dr Stable seemed to know her companions by the way he greeted them, both cordially and harshly. So, the blue unicorn who made such a flashy entrance had done something wrong in Ponyville, eh? Well, at least she was now trying to make amends.

Fuchsia turned towards the other unicorn mare in the room, the one who looked so much like her friend Bramble Rose. However, she seemed to be in conversation with another stallion at the moment, and it would be rude to interrupt. Just as she was about to take another sip of her drink, Trixie wrapped her in a bear hug and crowed, “aha! See! The Great Detective Trixie has found it, can you see it?!”

"Ah!" Fuchsia yelped, nearly spilling her cosmo down the front of her dress. "See what? Where?" Momentarily forgetting she was supposed to be an upper class socialite, she whipped her head around to look for whatever was causing the commotion. "I don't... wait. What is that?" she said, pointing to a corner of the room near some potted topiary shrubs.

Silk Scarf suggested a go at the refreshments, and with the recent addition to the room, he eagerly obliged. Maximilian downed the rest of his drink and quickly turned towards the drinks, motioning with a hoof for the mare to go first. How did that stallion get in? Surely he didn't get a VIP invitation... no... it must be something else. Did he /break/ in? He could tell security!

But what would that accomplish? So long as that infernal stallion left Max alone, he could do as he pleased.

That attitude soon fizzled at the commotion, with a chorus of shouts and pointing causing Max to spin around, looking rather confused.

"Huh, what, who, where, WHY?"

Doctor Whooves

Doctor Whooves spun around at the commotion, his eyes alight. "What? There?" He hurried over to the topiary shrubs, but instead of peering behind them, he just stared right into their leaves, giving a sniff... then he licked one of the leaves, thoughtfully. Plucked it off the shrub, nibbled on it...

He sagged. "False alarm," he sighed. "It wasn't here." He leaned down to examine the fallen leaves on the floor thoughtfully, straightened up and turned to find himself face to breastplate with a Royal Guard. "Oh! Hello!" he said, after only a moment's discomfort. "Hold on ..." he looked closely at his reflection in the guard's breastplate, smoothing a hoof through his mane, straightening his bow tie. "Ah, that's better." He smiled brightly up at the guard. "Did you need something?"

The unicorn guard loomed for a few moments longer, looking serious and dour at the party crasher.

"Doctor Whooves," the guard said at last, "Is there a problem? Is something wrong?"

"Wrong? Oh, no, no, hahaha, no." Doctor Whooves laughed dismissively, then suddenly got really serious. "Why, did ponies start disappearing yet?" At the guard's silent shake of the head, he laughed again. "Then no, nothing's wrong! Totally under control! This is a party, go, dance, drink, be merry! Look, a whole room of lovely fillies for you to boogie with! Goodness, do you really wear this to a party?" He knocked his hoof on the guard's breastplate. "You should try a bowtie instead."

The guard nodded, the faintest of faint smiles touching his lips. "Let us know if we can help," he said, and then returned to his rounds.

Silk Scarf

Silk Scarf didn't even notice the exchange with those two, just turning her back to Fuchsia and hoping the mare didn't see her, more caught up in her own panicked thoughts than paying attention to anything around her. "Food!" she answered Max's series of questions. "With me. Over there. Because I feel like a nibble and something to wash it down! You really *are* a card, you know?"

Fuchsia Blooms sighed and walked over to the corner where the topiary shrubs were. "No, not that, silly. This." Moving one pot out of the way, she indicated a thin snakelike vine wrapped around a tall ficus. It had five small grey-green leaves surrounding a tiny yellow green flower on one stem. "That is an Isotria medeoloides. It is an exceedingly rare orchid. In fact, I've only read about it in books, and those only mention sightings from a century ago. This should not be here. Even if the princesses could get one of these to grow, it would be in a greenhouse, certainly not in a corner of the ballroom. And it definitely would not be growing on a ficus tree."

Off over to the side of the Grand Ballroom, Filthy Rich stood there drinking a glass of wine. He had been to a few Grand Galloping Galas in the past, but never particularly enjoyed the experience. Always felt out of place among the other aristocrats, Mr. Rich did. His wife was a different story however, for she loved the annual chance to lose herself in the Gala’s glamor and partake in ballroom dancing with her brown coated love. And so out of indulging his wife’s desires, Filthy made another appearance here this year.

There wasn’t anything all that special with the earth pony’s attire, or so he thought; a black tuxedo from Carousel Boutique with no bells and whistles incorporated in it other than sheer, fabulous quality. The wife thought her husband to look quite fetching in it, so upon Filthy Rich it went! For a while after the loving couple arrived, they didn’t do anything else but dance and otherwise behave like a dumb pair of special someponies… in a dignified manner, of course.

But once Filthy’s wife needed to take a break from all the dancing, she left the stallion in order to socialize with other acquaintances of hers. Filthy’s friends and acquaintances however were mainly elsewhere in the Gala, assuming they even showed up. Mr. Rich did recognize a few ponies however; the millionaire Maximilian Rockefilly Jr., Dr. Stable from Ponyville, and even that one mad magician who once took over his town and encased it in a bubble. How she got into the VIP section escaped the brown stallion’s understanding. For the moment though, Filthy was content to finish his wine glass first before making his socializing rounds.....

"Oh late late late late late." Glitzen mumbled to himself as he sat in the back of the carriage. It was his brilliant idea to beg Bramble, or rather Silk, to come along to the Gala and rub elbows with Maximilian, and here he was arriving late. Fashionably so, mind you, but still, poor Silk was probably getting a bit anxious for his arrival! "Are we nearly there?" he asked out the window to the pony pulling his ride, to which he nodded in confirmation.

Pulling his head back in and taking a few deep breaths, the pegasus adjusted his mane. He had spent hours prior getting it just right, a soft flip of his bangs over the left eye, while the rest of his flawlessly gorgeous orange mane flowed in lightly curled locks. And his dress, which took far longer to decide on than he felt it should have, was immaculate. A long pale green gown with soft gold trim along the edge and small white, almost ivy like designs that dotted the rear part of the dress.

Similar to this dress in looks, but not in colour

Finally arriving at the Gala, Glitzen casually sauntered out of the carriage, carrying the air of confidence one would come to expect of a fashionista. Making his way through the grand halls of the Castle, drawing admiring glances from several ponies as he did, the stallion made sure to flash his invitation to any guards that questioned him as he made his way into the VIP section. Which much to his surprise, was rather barren of ponies! A couple of which she recognized, Max and Silk of course, were among them, but the other was a light blue unicorn mare, Glitzen couldn't quite put a hoof on it, but he swore he saw her somewhere in Ponyville. But that was a mystery for a different time, for now the slightly mischievous stallion pondered, wondering if he should announce his arrival to Silk and Max now, or wait to see if any 'seeds of amour' would be planted. For now he stepped off to the side, ordering a sloe gin fizz from the admittedly handsome servant with a smile and thanked him. Carefully staying out of sight of his two friends, Glitzen sipped his drink softly and spied, wondering if his matchmaking skills were still up to par.

Trixie didn’t exactly know what her and Whooves were looking for, only that it was “dangerous" and thus imparitive that they find whatever this thing was; the only thing Trixie was sure of is this mysterious creature was “plant like” in nature. Like everything else in the Doctor's plans, his description was vague and dubious with few helpful details; why does he always have to be so infuriating ‘mysterious’? No doubt he just wanted to show off, again! The azure unicorn just sighed as Whooves claimed it wasn't here now, however she could still sense the magic and her keen ability in this regard was one thing the earth pony couldn't do. “Well, the Accurate and Analytical Trixie’s horn is never wrong! That same magic trace you had us following all the way from Baltimare, day and night by the way, to this castle? It's still fresh, recent, and Trixie is never wrong about these things!”

At that moment it dawned on Trixie that maybe Whooves just made the whole story up and the magic they were following was something harmless, and it was just his excuse to get into the Gala! A brilliant plan perhaps, but Trixie was none the less infuriated, after all he didn’t let her in on it!

She was about to confront the eccentric earth stallion when Fuchsia Blooms noticed something strange among the plants after all. Ha! Both helpful and gorgeous! Now that’s a partner! Trixie smiled aggressive at Whooves as she wrapped her forehoof beck around Fuchsia. “Ha! See.. There is something there! Maybe if you weren’t gabbing with the guards so much you nutcase, you have noticed what this lovely mare uncovered, truly this is what we are looking for? Right?!”

Right?
