Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Maudleline Marie Pie – though she almost invariably prefers to go by just Maud.

Sex: female

Age: mare

Species: earth pony

Eye colour: her eyes are a mild turquoise

Coat: her coat is a middle gray in color. She tends to dress in simple designed, economical clothing.

Mane/Tail: Maud's mane and tail are a bluish violet color. They are both styled perfectly straight in a very simple fashion. Her mane is moderately long and has a completely straight fringe in the front. Her tail is medium length and comes to a flat end.

Physique: by appearance, Maud has an very standard, average build for a mare her age. A life spent digging enthusiastically (by her standards, at least) through rock quarries on the rock farm has left her with a surprising level of physical strength.

Residence: She is presently living abroad in Rockwington, studying rocks at the university there. Prior to that, she lived her life on a small rock farm somewhere in the Equestria heartland.

Occupation: student and researcher.

Cutie Mark: her cutie mark is a partially rounded, rather nondescript sedimentary rock.

Maud knew from her earliest years how important rocks were to her. The cutie mark confirming her destiny as a rock enthusiast didn't appear to a fateful day in her late fillyhood, after most of her younger sisters had already acquired theirs, when her rock love would be tested. Propelled by whispered stories she had heard at the rock farming community meetings she'd attend with her parents, she heard a particular legend of a special sort of rock that existed only within a single cave somewhere within the Everfree forest.

Now, of course, in Maud's view all rocks were a special thing, but the prospect of finding a new rock the likes of which she had never seen before was compelling. For the sake of rocks, she would investigate, even if if meant facing dangers. Though her parents protested, even in her young years Maud was an unflappable filly with a remarkable reserve of strength and stamina. She had confidence she could survive the investigation.

Everfree was an unsettling place. Good rocks were few and far between and there was unnecessarily too much wildlife. Confronted by predators big and small, she did her best to defend herself, mainly by throwing rocks at things. She was able to survive well enough in the forest, though as she went deeper, she was unable to find what it was she sought. Disheartened as the third night fell, she considered turning back then and there, when suddenly she tripped over a small rock.

Now this rock was just the everyday sort, indistinguishable from the kind all over the Eqeustrian heartland. It was not the rock she sought, but what it did do was capture her attention. Maud found herself staggering forward through a thicket, which brought her to the edge of a cliff overlooking a chasm, the view from which had been previously obscured. Looking into the chasm, something caught the filly's eye. It was just a speckle from the distance up, but it looked rather like an oddly hued glossy metamorphic rock.

Maud descended the cliff wall carefully but quickly to investigate. Sure enough, looking closely, the rock hardly resembled anything before she had seen. She couldn't recognize the minerals it contained and it had a shine to it that almost made it glow. Knowing where one specimen existed, another must be close by, Maud made her way through the chasm, past where some castle ruins sat atop the cliff, to a series of caves holding unusual things. It was in one of theses that she found the source of the strange rock! The cave was completely full of them, and the site of them was a beautiful thing.

Maud filled a sack with samples of the strange specimen to investigate it's properties. She would eventually find with help from her sister Pinkie that this special rock was uniquely edible by even ponies other than her when treated in the right way. For now, the filly just focused on escaping the woods, retracing her steps carefully, following the familiar rocks back home. Once she reached the top of the cliff, she gave pause as she found the little rock that had pointed her in the right direction. Smiling fondly at this newfound friend, she tucked it safely in her pocket. She wouldn't notice until her parents pointed it out upon her return, but it was in that moment that her cutie mark finally appeared.

History: Maud Pie was born to a family of simple rock farmers who operated a rock farm in central Equestria. She was the oldest of four daughters born to the family, and in many ways a perfect child in the eyes of her parents. She was attentive, responsible and genuinely loved both her family and life among the rocks. She was perhaps at first glance a somewhat melancholy child, but that appearance belied a filly who even from her earliest days felt satisfied with where she was in the world.

Her genuine passion for and love of rocks was well nurtured on the farm, but perhaps to an excessive point. She would stay extra hours at work farming rocks to the point where even her parents would often wonder if she wasn't a bit too into it. It was especially concerning since Maud didn't appear to have near as much interest in other ponies as she did rocks, preferring to keep to herself as opposed to make friends. For her, there were rocks and there were family, and that was enough for her most of the time.

Her relationship with her sister Pinkie was of special note. A study in contrast in terms of demeanor and interests, the two in their fillyhood were not always the closest. It mystified Maud how little Pinkie seemed to care for the rock farm. Though the rest of the family were joyed to see Pinkie find her parties as a way to express herself, Maud was at first unconvinced, not really understanding how such things were more entertaining than finding new rocks. With time, however, her contention subsided and gave way to a special appreciation of the joy Pinkie could bring to others, The bond between the two deepened from there, and eventually was born their tradition of regularly exchanging rock candy necklaces.

As a mare, at first Maud was content to work the rock farm with her parents. It was all she had known and it was a satisfying life of rewards. She hardly seemed to see the point of much else... until she got the right kind of encouragement from her parents and sisters. Her love and knowledge of rocks, it went beyond that of a simple rock farmer. She should learn even more and apply her unbeatable rock obsession in ways that would be better for the world. It was upon this realization that she made her decision to finally leave the rock farm to further her rock studies. She enrolled right away in Rockwington University's rock sciences program and began her pursuit of what her family liked to call her “rocktorate”. Upon graduating, she plans to travel the world doing field research, collecting rock samples from locales across the globe.

Character Summary: Maud is best described as a very staid and grave mare in terms of demeanor. Her range of emotional expression has remarkably little variance, which can make it hard to truly read her mood. While other ponies might seem physically deflated at their lowest points, her at her happiest is only a barely noticeable lilt away from her at her most somber. She is aware of this, and on occasion amused by the difficulties it causes in others.

It is not however just that she has difficulty expressing her emotions, she genuinely feels apathetic about a great number of things in the world and is quick to judge things as she sees them, completely honestly and unburdened by the expectations of others. She speaks her mind always without hesitation and doesn't honestly care what others think of her or what she says. As a result, she tends to make others feel a bit unnerved in most social situations.

Her one and only favorite passion is rocks and all things related to them. She has a vast knowledge of rocks of all shapes and sizes and genuinely loves everything about them. Rocks are fascinating to her and in fact even inspiring. She often finds ways to incorporate rocks into even normally un-rock related situations. She is known to draft poetry regularly detailing on the near spiritual connection she has to rocks. She has a lot of pride in the poems she writes, and is known to attend poetry recitals in cities she visits to give others a taste of her deep feelings, though usually it just ends up clearing the room.

Other than through her poetry, Maud also likes to express herself through clothing choices. She prefers simple, minimalistic fashions as she believes they suit her best. She has little use for the typical kind of fanciness or gaudiness one might associate with the mainstream fashion scene in Equestria. Her goal is to dress in such a way that she feels at home amongst the rocks. Practicality and utility are always top concerns with her.

Working as much as she did with rocks, Maud knows their secrets. She also has surprising strength and physical ability. She can throw a rock harder and further than just about any pony around and she can pulverize a boulder to dust with just her hooves in an instant. This coupled with her extensive rock knowledge makes her a multi gifted mare, though she seldom sees need to display her physical ability, especially since she abhors competition and conflict. She is above all else quite humble, and never interested in showing off. She will, however, not hesitate a single to jump into action when the need is there.

Maud has a favored rock named Boulder who she keeps as a pet. She is protective of Boulder and generally likes to keep him securely in her pocket. She makes a point to converse with Boulder regularly and even plays games with him, her favorite being the game of “Camouflage”.

Maud is a mare aware of who she is and mostly aware of how she comes across to others and has no interest in changing for an instant, quicker to back away than face conflict with others. She is not a cold mare though, and in fact is full of a very deep love for those closest to her, rock or no. She is not opposed to the idea of making friends, though any who hope to get close to her are going to need to be prepared to accept her as she is.
