Occupation: Baker, party organizer, general happy pony.
Cutie Mark: Balloons, three of them to be exact, one yellow and two blue.
Unique Traits: Pinkie Pie is a unique trait unto herself. More to the point, she has the Pinkie Sense, which allows her to predict the near future through a series of twitches and involuntary motions. World class party pony and organizer who seems to know the right thing to do for just about anypony at any time.
 

History:

Pinkie Pie was born on a boring old rock farm in a small town in the Heartland of Equestria to a large family. Her father, Igneous Rock and mother, Cloudy Quartz, ran and operated one of the larger rock farms in the Heartland. They, along with her older sisters Maude and Limestone, helped teach her everything she needed to know about the wonderful world of rock farming. Well, maybe not so wonderful as far as Pinkie Pie was concerned. She always felt like something was off, a square piece in a circle. But she soldiered on and her family was loving and pleasant if not joyful and friendly.

She did well in school even if she had trouble paying attention, constantly having daydreams- of rocks, mostly. She would go home and help her family out but nothing ever seemed to be right. One day while working out in the rock fields harvesting rocks on a rocky road sort of day this big, bright boom of light shattered the sky in every direction. Her hair became poofy but, more importantly, she fet a wave of happiness as wide and bright as the colors in the sky wash over her and in that moment she decided to ensure that everypony else felt the way she did right then- absolutely, totally happy.

She she decided to throw a party and threw her all into it, spending several hours trying to suss out what colors were happy and what things made ponies want to dance and play ad sing and whatnot because- well, it was coming naturally to her somehow, but it was still so new. After some time she brought her family in, anxious to see their reaction and get them to smile as wide as a mile. It took them a few moments and those were some awfully tense ones for the little filly, but their faces soon broke out into shaky smiles as she showed them how to party! Soon, for the first time in forever, the rock farm erupted into cheers and hoots and hollers of fun, and during it all, Pinkie Pie had received her cutie mark.

She went to school a changed filly, spreading cheer wherever she went. After she was done in school she begged and pleaded forr her parents to allow her to go to a bigger town so she could get a job baking- she had always loved doing it, but rock baking was getting stale- since where they lived had nadda, zilch, nothing. Her parents initially refused, only giving in after considerable Pinkie pressure and assurances from family friends, the Cakes, that they'd keep watch over her. So Pinkie Pie moved exceptionally young to Ponyville, more specifically Sugarcube Corner.

Under their tutelage she became a world class baker (of treats, anyway). More importantly, her explosively outgoing personality endeared her to the whole town, and she became as much a fixture as old families such as the Apples. Sure she blew her allowance (and then her paycheck) on party supplies(and started an insanely well maintained party record keeping operation) but it was worth it to bring smiles to everypony she met. She especially loved meeting new ponies, and it was this one pony in particular that she met during the lead-up to the Summer Sun Celebration named Twilight Sparkle that would change everything! And the rest, as they say, is cake history!

Character Summary:

Pinkie Pie is the very definition of a positive Equestrian. She exudes cheerfulness and joy from every candy colored pore in her body and wants to spread it to everypony she meets. Her parties are things of wonder and are perfectly tailored to the pony she is throwing it for, down the smallest detail. She spares no effort and no expense to be absolutely, positively sure that it is the absolute best time that everypony there has ever had, only to be trumped by the next one of course. This events are large and commonplace and the Ponyville social scene and Pinkie Pie's parties are one and the same.

For Pinkie, making others happy makes her happy, even happier than the ponies whom she is helping make happy. She doesn't ask much of her friends except that they smile and enjoy life, the way she enjoys them and can find great fun in even small things. Nothing makes her day brighter than brightening the days of others, and nopony will work harder to make the downtrodden and upset happy. Never does she give up on trying to make a pony happy until such a time as she herself has become downtrodden- she will work herself until there is nothing else to give to make somepony else happy. That has endeared her to her friends and the town as a hole, and there exists not a single pony in town who wouldn't do their darnedest to try and make her happy too. And as a result, Ponyville is one of the friendliest towns in Equestria.

But when Pinkie isn't happy, she can get very down, very quickly. It takes a pony who knows her sorts of highs who can experience such very low lows. She can be withdrawn, a bit rude, somewhat crazy, and more than a little paranoid and needy when such things happen. This is a rare experience when she gets quite that low, as generally a bit of sadness hits her and can be washed away quickly with the excitement of something new and fresh splashing across her horizons. 

She is a fantastic baker. She has a passion and natural talent for it and her experimentation allows her to create brand new concoctions on a daily basis. Of course this experimentation comes at a cost, as her hippity hoppity personality can lead to experimentation on basic Sugarcube Corner goods. While more often than not this passes  by without incident, once or twice the Cakes have had to be stern with her to stay within acceptable limits. Whether that will veer fully take with her is anypony's guess, though your taste buds are guaranteed to be dancing one way or the other.

She has a near encyclopedic memory of her friends and events in town big and small alike. She also has a filing system on likes, dislikes, preferences and allergies among other things, making her perhaps the most pony knowledgeable mare in the world! Or at least the Heartland. She isn't as good at dealing with animals as Fluttershy but her pet alligator Gummy is still pretty cute, even if he likes to crawl into her one of a kind, highly effective party cannon. 

An absolutely peculiar and very intriguing ability of hers is known as the Pinkie Sense. She doesn't know how or why, but she can predict the future with a series of involuntary body spasms, tail twitches, and ear flops. Over many years she has been able to put certain combinations together and uses that as a means of knowing what is coming. If only the ability was more consistent- it has a habit of coming and going, and she has no way of calling on it.
