History:

Clef was born the oldest of three siblings.  There were many things he appreciated about this state of affairs, including ready source of entertainment in teasing his brother and sister or the games the three of them invented and played.  It came at a cost though, as such things often do.  Clef was expected to be more responsible and independent for a child his age, and he was would later conclude that this was demanded of him before had been ready.

It didn’t help matters that his mother, Viola, was a renowned adventurer.  Clef’s relationship with his mother was actually fairly positive...when she was home.  The difficulty was that her work constantly called her to far off places for various periods.  Clef only had a passing interest in where she went, his concern had always been with where she wasn’t, and that place was home.
Raising three children is never easy, and as their father worked part time himself to ensure they had a stable income, Clef was often left in charge of the house.

When Clef’s mother finally returned home on a more permanent basis, by which point Clef was an adolescent, matters were unfortunately only made worse.  Viola had been seriously injured on her last adventure. While the whole family was determined to care for her, Clef included, it meant yet more responsibility for someone who already had a lot to pay attention to.  He held firm through the hardest parts of his mother’s recovery, being unwilling to let his family down like that.

Eventually Viola did heal, and needed less and less help.  With the worst passed, Clef had less concern to distract himself and more time to reflect.  He’d been getting more and more frustrated, without being entirely sure why, and in a moment of contemplation he realized he had grown sick and tired of all the responsibility.  Eventually he formed a plan, and a few days after his latest birthday, at which point he officially became an adult, her prepared.  He packed himself supplies for his journey, of which there were plenty as his mother had constantly kept prepared for anything, and few days later he said goodbye to his siblings and skipped town.

Clef didn’t know exactly what he was looking for, only what he needed to get away from.  He makes a point to write home every so often, not particularly wanting his parents to worry or to cut ties with his family, but beyond that he has no plans of returning home anytime soon.  He wants to find his own way, even if he has no clue how to go about it.  His mother is supportive of this course of action, much to Clef[‘s chagrin.

Personality/Summary:

Clef is generally a quiet individual.  He’s non-confrontational, preferring to solve problems or disputes by talking through them rather than fighting, and generally has a live-and-let-live attitude toward life.  He can be cowed in the face of aggressive individuals, and while if pushed far enough he will stand up for what he thinks is right, he actually prefers to back down where he can.  He finds it solves problems in the long run.

Conversely, Clef greatly enjoys discussions.  Not only does he prefer to talk his way through difficulties, he has a mild curiosity about just about everything.  Not yet sure where he wants to go in life, he’s taken an approach that everything might be worth exploring.  And for situations where he can’t talk, he prefers to think.  He enjoys puzzles, both of the formal variety and in broader sense of problems one can think their way through.

Bring raised by an adventurer, at least in part, contributed to Clef’s dislike of violence but also instilled him strong senses of morality and responsibility.  Granted, there isn’t much he feels responsible for at the moment, but it means both that someone could appeal to Clef’s sense of justice if they desire his help, and that he often feels compelled to resist evil that he sees in some capacity, though generally not by confronting it directly.

Note: Since the 'mane and tail' section doesn't really seem to apply to sirens, I used a 'fins and underbelly' section instead.
