Kudalyn 176 Posted November 23, 2011 Report Share Going Commando means running around without underwear. Link to comment
Dio 765 Posted November 23, 2011 Report Share Commando is also a colloquialism for special forces soldier, which is probably what they were going for. Who's the pervert now? Link to comment
Ginger Mint 966 Posted November 23, 2011 Report Share I don't get it... did they skimp on model textures somewhere? Link to comment
Kudalyn 176 Posted November 23, 2011 Report Share @Dio: you think a normal person would know that? XD Link to comment
Dio 765 Posted November 24, 2011 Report Share I figured it would be even more recognizable in Commonwealth countries, seeing as the British and Canadian special forces actually have the name "Commando" in their unit names! Link to comment
Ginger Mint 966 Posted November 24, 2011 Report Share Commando is a type of elite light infantry or special forces, specializing in attacking conventional military targets, as opposed to other special forces which specialize in counter-terrorism, reconnaissance or sabotage. The term commando stems from the Afrikaans word "Kommando," which translates roughly to "Mobile Infantry Regiment." Originally by horseback, since as early as 1652, where it was used to describe bands of militia in the Dutch Cape Colony."Going Commando," is likely attributed to the US Vietnam war era, starting on college campuses where it was a reference to the elite military soldiers who were supposedly "always ready." It didn't enter popular culture until the mid 1990s thanks to the Seinfeld episode "The Chinese Woman," in 1994, and the Friends episode "The One Where No One's Ready," in 1996. Link to comment
