  1. Trottingham is referred to by it's own zealous tourist industry as "The Jewel of the Lakes". From it's golden shored throne; it commands views across the vast Nimbusgait lakes. The town is home to the wealthy and influential earth ponies of Equestria; seeking solace in retirement or starting their new lucrative careers in the most popular resort on land. Grand hotels of white brick and gold tile tower over the bleach blonde sands of the coast, they provide a sun shade across the cobblestoned streets; lined with gift shops and 4 star restaurants. As the rows of buildings ascend the slopes away from the beaches, the commercial buildings dissipate away in favour of grand villas and luxurious apartments. Their architecture varying greatly from preserved classical buildings to abstract, modern design. The commercial hub of Equestria goes to great lengths to maintain it's picturesque reputation, a dedicated police force and sanitation department ensure the streets are literally pristine come day or night. Shopkeepers spend more of their time perfecting their hospitality than actually trading custom, popular as the town may be; the streets are serenely peaceful. The high costs of Trottingham discourage the purse strings of anypony from a more humble salary, but the tourist industry thrives regardless; the nearby city of Cloudsdale bringing in passing traffic regularly. If The Lakes before Trottingham form the crown of the east, then Cloudsdale would be the gleaming jewel atop them. The mass of spiralling, white towers and cascading multicoloured rivers inspire awe in the eyes of any earth pony. The miles long reflection of the flying city shimmers and shines even brighter in the lakes below. The citizens of Trottingham are always provided with two magnificent wonders to envy, both always out of their reach. As hard as Trottingham may try, as beautiful their city of expansive art, culture, and history may be; it is always outshined by the flying society above them. Persistently, the tourist trade plays on the lure of Cloudsdale to bring in more business; throwing parties for the Young Flyer competitions and commissioning the Wonderbolts to perform for them regularly. Trottingham's pride is second only to it's own insecurity, they find themselves unable to escape the metaphorical shadow of the white cotton society above them. A community of rich ponies with a lot of disposable income and an inferiority complex are very alluring to a keen businessman. With the right amount of charisma, he could convince the wealthy ponies of Trottingham that their already shining jewel could do with being just a little bit brighter. Their windows could shimmer more vibrantly than any rainbow, and their homes could be cleaner than the whitest cloud. Cleanliness was important to Trottingham; rivalled perhaps only by the pony skipping confidently up the cobbled highstreet of town. The bright, sandy stones reverberating satisfyingly thick clops from his shined hooves; they conduct a rhythmic bounce from the wagon behind him. The wood pannelled sides painted a royal gold that shone in the morning sun, the arch roof; a deep fiery crimson seems to shimmer and bathe the windows of houses in an exciting red aura. The blue title proudly emblazened across the yellow sides; "SOOTY'S SWEEPS" is punctuated by an illustrative sweep's brush beneath it. Presentation is important to any cleaner; it speaks volumes about his ability and the service he will provide. No pony appreciated this more than Sooty, as he marched proudly down the street; he lavished himself in the burning sunlight. His charcoal coat shined beautifully; his short, tidy mane and tail bounced playfully in his stride. Both himself and his wagon needed to sell themselves to potential customers before he could even pitch his sale. This was no more applicable anywhere than it was in Trottingham; the well to do, aloof playboys and debutants needed to know this earth pony was capable of making their town shine even brighter. It was also helpful that any rube could be talked into parting with their coin if talked up the right way. Sooty loved Trottingham; from the beautiful, bored housemares to the pristine streets. While the meticulously maintained houses did not provide the satisfaction of tough dirt to clean, the loose purse strings and luxurious lifestyle were more than enough compensation for this pony. Assertively, Sooty slowed his wagon to a halt; threw saddlebags of tools across his back and stood upon the steps of his mobile home. Bracing his lungs, he took in the street before him; admiring some of the prettier mares, eyeing up some of the finer dressed Colts and struggling to contain his excitement for the town of rubes before him. Abruptly; he bellowed out in a thick, unmistakable accent that carried across the entire square "CHIMNEY SWEEP FOR HIRE, SHINE YA HOOVES, SHINE YA WINDOWS, IF IT'S DIRTY; WE'LL SHINE IT." When Sooty stopped to gauge the reaction of pedestrians, the confident smile on his face began to falter when the looks of surprise on their faces grew into fright. Abruptly; the streets cleared, OPEN signs flipped, stalls were wheeled away and an orchestra of dainty hooves on cobblestone took off and emptied the town square. "Huh." So these rubes had convinced themselves they had heads on their shoulders, it would not stop him; he was the most charming and adept sweep in Equestria! He could talk these rich fools into gilding lillies if he desired. Taking stock of the empty street, Sooty tipped back his brown work cap and whistled. He would not let setbacks and wise-arses stop him from making a mean bit of cash and maybe some fun with somepony's wife if he had the time. But with no one willing to be speak him, what could he do? He felt the permanent grin on his face shrink and the unfamiliar feeling of relaxed cheeks spread across his face. Perhaps this town had become too smart for him, maybe it was time to move on? Well sod them anyway! Bunch of bleeding Nigels would not know charm or a good hoof shine if it came up and bit them! He would take his talents elsewhere, a brighter jewel than the nest of paranoid snobs that sat in the shadow of Cloudsdale. A spark ignited behind sea blue eyes and a bright smile returned to Sooty's face. He looked down towards the distant lakes and admired the grand reflection, split down the middle by the shimmering golden beam of the sun. His eyes rose to meet the city of clouds above. "Cloudsdale!" He muttered to himself, how brightly it shined; how beautifully the rivers of rainbows shimmered. Surely there of all places a craftsman of cleanliness and perfection would be appreciated. Additonally; the foreign charm of being an Earth Pony in the city of Pegasi would help his sales pitch substantially, and of course the Pegasi had no reason to know of his undeservedly negative reputation; he'd never been there! Sooty's mind drifted to thoughts of Pegasi mares, their soft feathered wings and trim, muscular frames. Indeed; Cloudsdale would be the place for him to make his fortune. Immediately he was at a gallop through the square and deeper into town. He needed to find a way to get to Cloudsdale and stay up there! How would he take his wagon? He supposed he could just take his saddlebags, but how long could he stay? How much would it cost? Questions of self doubt were quickly shoved to the back of his mind and replaced with fantasy of female Pegasi, maintaining the beautiful white clouds and sweeping the chimneys of factory columns, and back to female Pegasi. Somepony in this town had to know a way up there. As loathe as Trottingham's ponies were to admit it; Cloudsdale was the crux of their tourist industry, somepony would know how to get him up there. Whether it was with wings, in a balloon, a flying chariot, a magic spell, or even on the back of a Dragon; Sooty was going to Cloudsdale, he just needed to find some gullable rube in this stuck up town he could trick into helping him! [Edit; people brought to my attention that deciding character actions for them in any tense, is inconsiderate; so for the sake of them, it has been cut.]

    Rubba Duckies

They are amazing. Specifically in the dead of night, surrounded by girls and everyone's holding a drink.

  12. [ Pony Related Character ] Name: Sooty Gender: Male Age: Stallion Species: Earth Pony Pelt Color: Charcoal Grey Mane/Tail Color & Style: Black, short and wirey Eye Color: Blue Cutie Mark: A Brush Physique: Slender, trim and athletic Residence: His caravan wagon, kept at the rubbish tip at night Occupation: Door to Door Chimney Sweep, window cleaner, shiner, polisher, handyman. Motivation: Sooty's a stickler for cleanliness. It does not occupy him obsessively, but he can make anything fit to eat off or shine anything to see your face in. What really motivates Sooty are money and mares, and what better way to get both than to be a travelling chimney sweep? No dreams of grandeur sweep up this pony's imagination, all he desires is luxury, romance, and the money required to do obtain both. Likes: Sooty preys on other Ponies for financial and social advancement. He will happily clean an old mare's chimney and wipe her windows down for free; if it guarantees him a smile and a tray of biscuits from her pretty young daughter/niece in gratitude. He enjoys the small town mindset of Ponyville residents; unable to break their polite demeanour and refuse the advances of an assertive chimney sweep at their door insisting that their chimney is absolutely filthy. Cleaning is not just a means to an end for Sooty, he really does have a passion for it; he takes great satisfaction from dusting out entire chimneys to finely pruning the many heads of his brushes. Sooty is not an entirely uncharitable pony, he is persistently trying to pull his younger adopted sibling; Smoggy out of his reclusive lifestyle. He spends a lot of his money taking Smoggy into town for nights of fun and decadence, trying to pair the shy pony off with some giggling filly. He isn't a saint entirely; sometimes he'll use Smoggy to play himself off to mares as the caring older brother type if it's endearing to them, other times he can ditch his brother entirely to chase some mezmerizing flank. Despite his flaws; Sooty really does love his adopted little brother. Dislikes: Sooty is a very positive, culturally consuming pony. There is not much he doesn't enjoy apart from things that get in the way of his goals. Older mares who are wise to his smooth talking aggressive salesmanship, other businessmen are a paticular problem in this regard. Appropriately, he is not welcome anywhere near sweet apple acres; or in Applejack's sight ever again after the scam he tried to pull on Granny Smith. Such is the life of the salesman, and it is never enough to keep him down or break his persistence. Being a much more sociable pony than his adopted brother, he is well known around ponyville. Using gossip as a tool for sweet talking mares, he is well aware of the reputation he and Smoggy have received. It's origins stemming mostly from his own rascally behaviour, it doesn't bother him at all. But he is quick to lose his temper whenever his adopted little brother is spoken of poorly, or laughed at by little foals. He believes the perception the town has of Smoggy is entirely undeserved and wishes better for his adopted brother. Character Summary: Sooty grew up in the city of Fillydelphia in a large family. School was not a priority for him and his many siblings, instead they spent most of their time on the streets; putting food on the table in whatever way they could. Sooty was no stranger to petty theft, he experienced some of the darker parts of city living. A life surrounded by crime as a neccessity taught the young pony how to talk fast, exploit weaknesses, charm women, and close deals. Crime never attracted Sooty as much as other colts and fillies, to him it was a means to an end. As a foal it was to support his mother and his siblings, as a colt he found ways to make money without needing to resort to theft. He could convince any stallion their shoes needed shining, a friendly rapport with the local shopkeepers guaranteed he'd always have windows to clean and a constant supply of coin. Sooty was an early bloomer, his cutie mark was no surprise to any of his siblings; he was the best shoe shiner, window cleaner and chimney sweep on his street. A childhood of running from constables and angry fathers kept him trim enough to scale rooftops and chimneys with ease, combined with his quick witted charisma; this pony was set for life, until he found an abandoned foal outside his local inn. The little green pony was all alone, shivering and too shy to talk. Being a family orientated colt; his first instinct was to take the little bundle of dirt and tears home to his mother. The orphan was quickly accepted into the family, but it would be years before he had earnt the respect of his adopted siblings. Sooty took it upon himself to teach the little foal how to shine, how to sweep, how pick a pocket and how to talk your way into a sale. The little foal struggled with this lifestyle, he was too quiet for the street urchin life; if he had not Sooty to watch over him, he wouldn't have lasted a month on the street. The growing foal did excel in one area though, cleaning. He took after his guardian angel with enthusiasm; Sooty only ever saw the foal smile when he was wiping down windows or pushing a brush down someone's chimney. Up on the rooftops, away from the fast paced bustle of the streets; the foal really came out of his shell and excelled as a sweep's assistant. While other sweeps would cough and splutter after minutes down a chimney, the little green foal could stand in the clouds of soot and breathe deeply and so, Sooty named him; "Smoggy". Growing up together, the two colts were inseperable. Despite their huge character differences; they were happiest when together. Smoggy enjoyed the acceptance and pride his older brother had in him, and Sooty found a cute little assistant sweep was an even better way to charm his way into the house of pretty young fillies and make some coin while he was at it. Times changed, so did the street. A large family became few, a loving elderly mother passed away and a home dissapeared over night. Sooty and Smoggy pooled their earnings, bought a wagon to live in and bid Fillydelphia goodbye; off to seek their life's content elsewhere, after a long journey; Sooty found himself talking a certain grey haired mayor into giving his younger brother a deed to an abandoned lot in exchange for work as Ponyville's garbage pony. Sooty was anxious at first, a small town didn't offer pubs, clubs, or wild parties. But he would soon discover they had something else; rubes. NB; Oh god I am sorry that these are so long what is wrong with me.
  13. [ Pony Related Character ] Name: Smoggy Gender: Male Age: Stallion Species: Earth Pony Pelt Color: Deep Green Mane/Tail Color & Style: Unkept Dirty Blonde Eye Color: Brown Cutie Mark: A Biohazard Symbol Physique: An out of doors manual labour job keeps Smoggy in reasonably good health and strength, however an unhealthy diet and leisurely lifestyle ensure he won't be entering rodeos anytime soon. Residence: The rubbish tip, far removed from ponyville or any other town for the sake of any resident's sense of smell. Occupation: Dustbin Collector Pony. Motivation: Being unafraid to get one's hooves muddy is an odd talent; but when you are most at home in dirt and muck, and when you have yet to encounter a smell foul enough to make even a single nostril hair quiver; a life spent dealing with all the dirt no other pony wants to is right up your alley. Smoggy endears to maintain routine in his life; he enjoys the privacy of the vast tip he calls home, and thanks to his limited, elusive daily contact with the residents of ponyville; this shy pony can pick and choose when to be alone and when to be sociable. Likes: Sifting through rubbish for disregarded treasures, Piling rubbish into sculpture like towers, using rubbish as fertiliser; he tends his own miniature allotment within the tip, and the occasional sense of gratitude he catches from the residents of Ponyville. When feeling as free as he can from inhibition, he enjoys getting smashed on Apple Cider with his friend; Sooty. Dislikes: Smoggy is avoidant, he is afraid of any potential changes in his daily routine; such as social gatherings and even venturing into town to shop. He does not appreciate visitors to the tip, even if it is a public place; he holds special contempt for adventurous young colts and fillies who sneak into the tip, running across his gardens and climbing his towers of rubbish. Character Summary: Smoggy is a shy, solitary pony who when pressed would say he only enjoys the company of one other pony; his self adopted elder brother Sooty. While he strives for privacy, he maintains a friendly rapport with the residents of ponyville. However, his perception of hospitality differs somewhat from the actual residents'. While they are happy to smile and wave to the scruffy pony towing his cart of dustbin bags and junk, they prefer him at arms length; partly due to the smell in his wake and mostly from the rumours and gossip surrounding "That odd pony that lives alone out in the junkyard with that Thief friend of his". Smoggy has never seen the extent of trepidation that surrounds his character with the exception of fillies who, when their bravery is questioned; dare to enter the junkyard at night and unsuccessfully sneak as close as they can to his wagon and catch a peek at the sleeping brute within. Smoggy lives on a fine line between valid civil servant and weird recluse, as long as the streets of ponyville stay clean; his routine will remain intact.
