  1. Crescent had his gaze firmly planted on the glowing orb, both anxious and excited to see where it would lead them. Perhaps the poor foal had somehow made his way out of Ponyville? Could be that he was lost somewhere in the town, or that someone had actually foalnapped him? A number of possibilities made their way into his head, each of them making him more paranoid and nervous, right up until the point where the orb took off towards the stairs, knocking over various baked goods on its way. The unicorn was left somewhat dumbfounded, the idea that the foal was still somewhere inside the building was entirely nonsensical. "Upstairs? Why would it be going there?" Crescent shrugged at the question, just as surprised as the baker. Pound Cake couldnl't actually be up there, could he? As the baker and princess took off, Pumpkin still hanging onto Cadance's mane, Crescent decided to dismiss the thoughts and quickly follow the trio upstairs, doing his best to keep the blue glow of the sphere in his field of vision. He entered the foals' nursery just in time to hear some pounding, then see Carrot Cake open a closet and be swiftly torpedoed by a flying pegasus foal. Crescent just stood there, mouth slightly open until the princess spoke. "Pound, I presume," The unicorn was sure that at that point, if he hadn't been so unbelieving about the entire situation, he'd had been rolling around on the floor laughing his flank off. As it was, his surprise only managed to contain some of the mirth, laughing happily along with the princess at the display in front of him.
  2. Crescent made his way into the bakery together with the others, making sure to dismiss his earlier spell as well. He took in the all too sweetly environment with a slight shudder, the presence of so many sweets and pastries filling the air with such a strong scent that he could practically taste sugar on his tongue. At this point he remembered why he normally stayed away from confectioneries like this. He did his best to push away all stray thoughts and sensory inputs, simply nodding to Carrot Cake as he went to retrieve something belonging to the pegasus foal. He'd need to have a clear mind if he wanted to get any results with the scrying spell. As the baker returned and deposited the used diaper on a nearby table; Crescent could barely stop his nose from twitching up, the rather fresh smell of the diaper clashing strongly with the sweet scent of his surroundings. He returned his attention to Carrot Cake as the baker spoke. "I really hope the diaper itself is enough, I do not want to have to reopen that thing again." With a hopeful smile Crescent addressed the baker, "Well, it should do quite...nicely I think, the diaper together with his name should give a pretty good result." Without another moment of hesitation he placed himself by the table, sitting on his haunches and closing his eyes. While readying the ritual area in front of him, Cadance spoke up and he turned to see Pumpkin Cake, happily returned to the back of the princess. "Hear that, honey hooves? We're going to find your brother in no time at all now thanks to the nice unicorn. Maybe someday you can do magic like that too!" He couldn't keep a smile from his muzzle at the comment. "I'm certainly going to try my best, this is my special talent after all." Not waiting for a reply, Crescent turned back to face the diaper and the spellwork ahead of him, he had hoped for something a bit more personal, but it would have to do. Closing his eyes and shutting out all outside interference, Crescent used a meditative technique in which he constructed the room in his mind, slowly removing everything else not of import. First the walls, then the floor, ceiling, the furniture without the diaper, then finally the other ponies, leaving himself sitting in a dark space with only himself and the focus of his spell visible. Next he brought the name of the lost foal, Pound Cake, to mind, adding a representation to the scene of his mind in the form of a simple nameplate situated next to the diaper. With all of the materials in place, the unicorn started constructing the spell, his horn glowing a soft blue at first, then growing ever more in intensity as his work progressed, adding the linking components and finally forming his intent into the shape of a sphere. As he finally released the spell and opened his eyes, he saw the all too familiar azure sphere in front of him, this one different from the earlier Seeker spell in that instead of a ball of light, it looked more like ice cold wind turned into a liquid through some arcane process. With a look of success on his muzzle he turned back to the others, panting and sweating slightly from the magical fatigue. "There we go, I've got a pretty good feeling that we'll be able to track down Pound Cake now. Just give me a moment to catch my breath." After relaxing for a moment he got back on his hoofs, eager to finally track down the lost foal and reunite him with his family. ((OOC: I'll be leaving the spell up to Rose again of course ^_^))
  3. Crescent couldn't help but chuckle lightly as he saw the almost panicking rainbow pegasus, he normally didn't poke fun at ponies like this, but her reaction was much better than he'd expected. He watched her in silence for a while, quickly realizing that this was not the first time this had happened to her. Suddenly feeling a bit guilty that he'd teased her about it, he decided to do his best to cheer her up. The earth pony behind Dash spoke to her again, trying to reassure her that there'd be more than enough room for all of them, Crescent simply nodded his agreement as they continued moving. "He's right you know, I mean, this is a pretty big event and I'm sure there's more than..-" He was cut off as he saw some staff members trot to the front of the booth. "Enough..." He continued as he saw a sign being raised, his eyes widening slightly as he saw what was written on it. "Tickets." Crescent finished with a gulp as he turned back to Rainbow Dash with an apologetic smile. "Or well....maybe not?" He wasn't able to keep an awkward wince from his muzzle as he looked at Dash's reaction.
  4. ((OOC: Sorry about that, for some reason I couldn't figure out it was my turn to post xD)) Stifling a chuckle at seeing Carrot Cake's awkward nervosity in front of the princess, Crescent silently sat on his haunches while listening to the two ponies talk, smiling to himself as he saw the family reunion in front of him, promising himself to go visit his own parents more often. Celestia knows his mother had done her best to encourage more visits from him, too bad his father didn't feel much the same way. With a shrug he dismissed the family worries from his mind, returning his attention to the scene in front of him just in time to learn the identity of the missing foal, one Pound Cake, apparently the sibling of Pumpkin Cake by the sound of it. Secretly relieved that they'd no longer need to follow the whimsical mentality of the unicorn foal, Crescent turned his head to talk to Carrot Cake. "Sorry, Mr. Cake is it? I should be able to point us in the direction of Pound Cake with a scrying spell, I'll just need something belonging to the foal as well as a physical description, the more you can supply me with the easier it'll be." He said, voice full of confidence that they'd finally be able to get on the right track, and not get distracted by every pie vendor or butterfly in the vicinity.
  5. Why am I even here? Crescent asked himself once again, not only was he hardly a Daring Do fan, but he didn't really care much for the books at all. He of course knew that they were pure fiction, but the series had still managed to bring him quite a bit of annoyance whenever ponies learned of his line of work and instantly tried to compare it to a Daring Do novel, he was getting tired of constantly having to tell them that the real world was nothing like those books. He'd gone into a fair number of ruins, temples and caves, and not once had there been any ingenious traps or villains waiting for him to ruin his day, sure there was the occasional pitfall, hidden chamber or dangerous creature, but nothing at the level of the Daring Do stories. He'd only gone to a single Daring Do convention when he was younger, and only because his Canterlot friends had urged him to go, it was shortly after he had gained his cutie mark and he still remembered how the fanponies at the convention had thought his golden compass mark to simply be a fake, a tribute to Daring Do. If it weren't for the fact that his last client had given him a ticket to the con as a bonus for a job well done, he very much doubted that he'd gone. But now he was here, standing at the back of the line after being in no rush to be one of the first inside, brown fur covering his well trained body, his blue mane as windswept and unkempt as always, and his piercing ice blue eyes observing the line of congoers in front of him. He wore only a pair of simple saddlebags, one of their contents, a book on archeology, currently open and levitating in front of him, covered in the blue magical aura created by his horn as he read parts of it every time his inquisitive gaze failed to find anything interesting in his surroundings. It was to his big surprise when a rainbow colored pegasus mare in a Daring Do costume suddenly landed on the ground behind him, taking his position as the last pony in the line. He'd heard hear ask about the end of the line from a bit up front, and when she landed at the end she looked a bit crestfallen. Upon silently taking in her appearence again, he quickly discovered that this was in fact Rainbow Dash, Element of Loyalty and resident of Ponyville. Her rainbow colored mane and cyan fur making it quite obvious. He couldn't keep a teasing twinkle from his eyes as he returned the book to his saddlebag and turned halfway around to face her. "Hey there, welcome to the end of the line. I just hope they'll still have room for us when we finally make it to the entrance. Nice costume by the way." He said the last part with a smile, doing his best to keep the teasing tone from his voice when he mentioned the part about the limited space. Crescent never was a cruel pony, but Rainbow just looked much too distressed for him not to poke a little fun at her.
  6. Crescent couldn't help but smile and chuckle at the little unicorn as she booped his nose in order to cheer him up, in reality he was hardly in need of cheering up, but he could appreciate the gesture. He kept a kind gaze on the foal as he watched her turn her attention to somepony yelling from above, then look back at them with wide eyes and an exclamation of Papa. Quickly turning his attention towards the second story window he spotted an earth pony stallion peering desperately down at them, and before he was able to mouth a warning the stallion dropped out the window with a yell of surprise. The unicorn just barely had time to react as he did his best to conjure a telekinetic cushion below the falling baker, mitigating as much as the damage as possible. It wasn't as much as he'd wanted, but he had often had to rely on this particular spell when scaling cliff sides or delving into caves and slipping by accident, so he was somewhat adept at using it. Far too often now that he thought about it, but at least it had taught him to use this spell swiftly. He still winced as Mr. Cake landed face first in the flowerbed in front of Cadance however, pretty sure that it had still hurt quite a bit. Crescent was relieved when he saw that the stallion was alright, and decided to wait and let the princess talk to him after he'd heard her say his name.
  7. Coming to a stop next to the princess, Crescent could barely contain his excitement as the Seeker spell started hovering by a peculiar gingerbread house, most likely a bakery of some sorts. It honestly made his stomach a bit upset looking at it, he never really liked sweets and the like. His hopes were quickly shattered however, as Cadance bent down to retrieve not a lost foal, but a slightly dirty blanket, causing him to sit down on his haunches with a quiet sigh. "I'm guessing that belongs to our little unicorn?" Crescent said as he looked at the piece of cloth, glancing at the foal for any sign of recognition. The unicorn stallion returned to watching the situation in front of him, hoping that with her blanket returned, the young foal might focus her attention on her lost friend instead.
  8. Crescent barely managed to hide his grin as he was praised by the alicorn princess, he never really did put any value into the praise he used to recieve from his teachers or parents. This was different however, it wasn't the same sickly sweet talk he had been given to urge him in his studies. It was actually very refreshing. "Thank you kindly princess, I wouldn't mind showing you at some-.." He was abruptly cut off as the blue orb suddenly perked up, then zoomed off straight past him and heading back into Ponyville, quickly followed by Cadence who was urging him to follow. Without another word the unicorn spun around, galloping quickly after the princess, not for the first time glad that he kept himself in better shape than most unicorns. He just hoped that the orb would finally lead them in the right direction.
  9. Crescent came to a halt as the princess and foal descended to the ground once again, silently chuckling to himself at the sight of the poor red bird firmly stuck in the little foal's mouth. With a last glance towards the blue orb, he waited patiently while the princess rescued the imprisoned bird and turned his attention back to her as she spoke to him. "The orb is a Seeker spell, and probably the best I can do without more information," he said before continuing with a contemplative look. "It seeks out whatever the subject is looking for, though the mental intrusion is extremely minor, and won't allow me to actually read the pony's thoughts." He finished with a wave of his hoof before sighing slightly and running said hoof through his unkempt blue mane. "I'm afraid the spell is working as well as one would expect, considering it's being guided by the thoughts of a foal. Unless she concentrates on her lost companion, it won't do us much good." Crescent couldn't keep a tone of disappointment from his last words, as he picked up the movement of the wild blue orb out the corner of his eyes. He couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed about the ineffectiveness of his spell, and silently promised himself to improve on it when he got the time.
  10. Should have seen this one coming, Crescent thought to himself, doing his best to keep up with the flying alicorn while at the same time keeping an eye on the seeking orb. He'd never seen it behave this erratic before, darting every which way whenever the foal shifted her attention to something else, the orb rarely even reaching its target before zooming away in another direction. Crescent had expected the spell to act differently, but he had clearly misjudged the attention span of the ever curious little unicorn. He just barely managed to sidestep a young mare carrying groceries as his eyes were glued to the blue orb, currently doing its second passover of a nearby pastry vendor, much to the surprise of the customers and irritation of the merchant. Perhaps he should have altered the spell's sensitivity to errant thoughts, making sure that it would only seek out whatever the target was focusing on the most. With a shrug he dispelled the pointless thoughts from his head, instead returning to following the flying pair through the streets of Ponyville. He was certain that the foal's thoughts would return to her missing friend eventually.
  11. Well, she was certainly off again quite fast. Crescent had barely had time to go over the possible spells he might be able to use before the alicorn took flight, leaving the unicorn stallion on the ground in the park. Not that it bothered him all that much, it was quite clear that the princess was in a hurry to find the unicorn foal's lost friend. Thankfully, his own brand of magic was quite far reaching. Watching them go, he did his best to not lose track of the alicorn and the foal as they took off over the rooftops. In truth, without a description or at least something belonging to the lost pony, his options were quite limited, using divination spells without an attachment was pretty much impossible to do. Luckily, he'd run into situations like these before, and he knew of one spell which might at least be of a bit of help to the princess. Thankfully he'd had a good enough look at the unicorn foal to picture her in his mind, allowing him to anchor and perform the spell he was currently constructing. It was one of his own creations, borrowing only slightly from established sources of knowledge, he was actually quite proud of it. With a deep look of concentration on his face, his horn giving off an aura of pale blue energy at the same time, he finished his Seeker spell, picturing the unicorn foal in his mind as he willed the magical construct into existence, hoping it wouldn't startle the princess too much. Not too far from the princess and the foal, a blue orb of harmless energy flared into existence, its own purpose linked to the mind and thoughts of the unicorn foal. The spell in itself was quite simple, it basically created a divining orb capable of seeking out whatever or whoever the subject was looking for within a decent area. Thinking about it one more time, he remembered that he'd never actually tried using it on a foal before. Oh well, I guess it'll be fine, I just hope the little one will be able to keep her thoughts on her friend. With a satisfied grin, Crescent started heading in the direction of the flying pair, quite easily maintaining the magic required for the spell from a distance. He really liked this spell, and even though it suffered from a few restrictions, namely that it could only be used on unicorns (Their horns acting as both reciever and transmitter for the mental energies required), that it could only scan an area around the size of Ponyville, and that it wouldn't find anything behind anything thicker than wooden walls, Crescent was quite certain that it would be able to do the job.
  12. Crescent Chronicle Unicorn // Male // Stallion // Profile [Ponyville] Despair and Panic! The Missing Cake Twin (Open) [Ponyville] Daringcon
  13. ((Hope you don't mind me 'barging' in ^_^)) Ugh....what a gloriously bad day, Crescent thought to himself, not for the first time since sunrise. He had had such fun, digging through those old abandoned diamond dog caves in order to find the item his client had requested, and really, how was he to know that the caves weren't really abandoned, and that those silly dogs had taken to worshipping the blasted piece of pottery like a tribal artifact? To be honest, his client should have been happy just getting the shards of said urn, it's not like he was going to use it as a container for anything anyway. The one bright point was that he at least had had the decency of paying some of the promised reward. Just another reason why he prefered doing private work, at least then he'd only have his inner historian get angry with him if he broke a priceless cultural artifact. Not that it had happened all that often anyway, probably no more than a handful of times. Regardless, the job had managed to get him enough bits to get to Ponyville, a pleasant little village if nothing else, and home to the famous Elements of Harmony to boot! Not that it mattered much to him, but it was history in the making none the less. Having arrived in Ponyville, his mind had started drifting away from the earlier memory of an angry collector trying to bludgeon him to death with a book, instead opting to look for a few books himself, knowing from experience that the most interesting tomes could be found in these smaller rural village. His silent contemplation was quickly shattered by the wailing of a foal, at least he hoped it was a foal and not one of those silly foal imitating frogs, oh how he loathed those things. Quickly scanning his surroundings he promptly spotted the source of the crying in a nearby park, one Princess Mi Amore Cadenza. Wait, that's not quite right. Princess Cadenza? In Ponyville, and carrying around a newborn unicorn foal no less? Suddenly seeming more interesting than finding a few books, Crescent started trotting in their direction, only to have his ears perk up as the Princess spoke. "Have either of you seen a young foal going around on its own? It could be in a lot of trouble!" A missing foal? Well well, guess fate had chosen to plant him somewhere where his special talent might do some good, and getting on the good side of royalty was a decent bonus. With a quick trot he found himself standing by the alicorn. "Excuse me Princess Cadenza, I couldn't help but overhear that you were looking for somepony?" He said, a sly twinkle in his ice blue eyes as he continued with a court bow. "Allow me to introduce myself, I am Crescent Chronicle, seeker of artifacts, relics and curios of all sorts, as well as one of the finest unicorns in the use of divining and seeking spells to ever come out of your esteemed aunt's Academy." Finishing his sentence by slightly shifting his body to show her the golden compass cutie mark on his brown flank.
  14. The reasoning I had behind not describing his personality much, is that it's something I'd much rather explore through RPing. As for the making money part, I imagined that he'd do both some private work, such as finding historical artifacts and selling them, as well as taking jobs from clients to do various things within his area of expertise.
  15. Sorry about posting in the 'Final' thread, but I was contemplating changing his name to something like Finder Keeper, Finder Chronicle or something entirely different, any thoughts or suggestions?
