1. I'll toss up an app for heroine of water in the morning. Gotta sleep for now.
2. Hrmm.... LoZ holds a special place in my heart, along with most of my childhood, can't see why I wouldn't join. Are you still open for apps, and if so, what elements are still available? Just wanted to make sure before I toss mine up.
3. Accepted Shadow, i'll update the new OOC in the 18+ section. There's a link in my post from earlier..
4. Accepted pyro! Welcome to vengeance! On a side note for everyone else that is planning on applying, I'm going move this topic, and the RP itself to the 18+ section, so we will not have to have as many restrictions on the rp. Here is the link: http://www.canterlot.com/topic/15724-vengeance-equestrias-rebirth-ooc-and-sign-up/
5. Here is an example for character applications, which will also serve as my main character. Be in mind though, I will be playing as Empress Twilight and Nocte as well, but they will only occasionally make appearances. Name: Red Herring Age: About 31 in pony years. Gender: Stallion Race: A regular unicorn. Alignment: His cause is that of the RLF, and he serves as the military general of it, second only to Nocte. Place of Birth/Starting Location: Red was born in Canterlot and has lived there his whole life, even after it's conversion to Equinia after the Culling. Physical Appearance: Red is an average height, lightly built stallion, with a bland, grey coat and long, unkempt crimson red mane. He will normally be wearing a dark grey military style overcoat and smart, black fedora. Personality: Red is a stallion of mixed persona's, although his normal demeanour will be that of a charming, quick thinking rogue who can talk his way out of most situations. While he is normally sober, he has been known to drink when he is sad, depressed, happy, or many other moods. This drinking problem will not cut from his razor sharp wit though, as although he will not seem like much, he hides a fierce intellect and is a nimble fighter when provoked. He is a brilliant tactician, and is to make decisions in an instant, although he will not leave a single pony behind, even when it means going against orders. Cutie Mark: His cutie mark is a red lensed magnifying glass, signifying his great love and skill for detective work. History (Back Story): From the time when he was a foal, the world always presented Red Herring with more questions than answers. Always the smart-flank, his demeanour often got him into trouble, earning him the title of one of his town's most disliked young colts. Being an orphan though, there wasn't much more that he could do. He moved out of his orphanage and joined the equestrian military force as soon as he could, and for a while made a living as a sergeant who was hated by his men. One crucial mistake cost him his career though, as being drunk while manning a vital sentry post isn't the best of decisions, and was dishonourably discharged. Soon after though, he donned the iconic fedora and began his career as a successful detective, solving case after case. Soon enough, Twilight became princess of the stars, and crime seemed to die down, something he wasn't fond of. But slowly, cases came up of alleged guards being seen murdering civilians. But try as he might, he just couldn't figure them out, and the cases were closed. Soon he was approached by a hooded mare, who told him not to give up. But her warning was too late, as two days after the meeting the culling began. Red then finally figured out Twilight's descent into madness. As the terrible truth struck him hard, he developed his split persona's, and his drinking problem came about. About two months after the culling though, the strange mare returned to him again, this time revealing her name; Nocte. She devised to him a plan, and the RLF was born. He now resides as the public head of the RLF, keeping Nocte's existence a secret. I'm going to have 8 slots available, with up to 3 characters per person. I may boost it up to twelve if I receive enough interest though. Free! Free! Free! Free! Free! Free! Free! The British Brony (Red Herring, Nocte, Twilight Sparkle)
6. "Power corrupts..... so absolute power corrupts absolutely. Time teaches us this. We take this message from time and try to learn from our mistakes; Sometimes it can seem cruel, sometimes it will seem hopeless. But it is the hope on the horizon that has kept us going. That has kept ME going. It has been five years........ Five long, hard years. Not long after Princess Twilight Sparkle was crowned, it became apparent that peace had finally settled on all of equestria. Things were different though...... Twilight was.... different. Ponies began to fear the Princess of the stars; the one who had the power to accomplish anything. She began to take notice of this, soon enough she began to take risks; risks that were plain in sight to the populace. But nopony said anything; this unicorn turned alicorn, just how much power did she have? What was she capable of? Eventually, ponies took heart and began to stand up to her, but the uprising was short lived. She silenced the rebels viciously, there was no trial. No charge of treason, just slow, painful death at the hands of the alicorn princess. More and more ponies rose to the cause; It was clear that Twilight had now become a tyrant, not a princess. When Princess Luna and Princess Celestia struggled to justify their heirs choices, they too joined the fight to end the reign of the once noble Princess of the stars. But Twilight had anticipated what was going to happen, and so she enlisted the help of powerful enemies of equestria; the changelings. Together they resurrected king Sombra of the crystal empire, with the promise of returning his empire to him; she was now unstoppable. The assault final assault on Canterlot lasted 3 long days; thousands of lives were lost in the culling of the innocent and guilty alike. On the final hour of battle, only two figures remained. They stood tall, although broken in mind and spirit. The destruction of their kingdom glared at the from all around; with one responsible. Perhaps it was by fate that the student now surpassed the teacher, but one thing was clear: only one would be walking away from this final battle. Nopony knows what happened on that final, fateful hour. Equestria now lies in ruin, with a tyrant empress sitting upon it's throne. The populace: an enslaved, beaten entity. Corrupt nobles run the new cities and towns, appointed by Twilight herself. The Elements of Harmony have gone into hiding: afraid that they would be the first targets of this new dictatorship. But what can anypony do? A few have chosen to question this statement. a resistance has began to rise in the slums of the once grand cities. We few have chosen to rise from the dirt and the dusk and rise to rebuild our once grand nation. So, the choice is yours. Do you choose to stand your ground against the tyrant that we call empress? Or do you stand steadfast by her side, choosing to defend this new, noble civilisation? Maybe time will tell. But I know it is time for a change, for better or for worse. A time for peace, or a time for war. A time for vengeance." - Nocte, leader of RLF, the Royal Liberation Force. Hi there everypony! Some of you may know me around here, others may not. To those of you who don't, you can call me British. Now, what we have here is an idea that I've been cooking up for a while now. Some of you may remember Valencetiger's revolution saga: an rp that I dearly miss, and wish to revive in a way, with my own spin on things of course. To put the plot into a basic summary, you can refer to the first sentence of the above. Power corrupts, so absolute power corrupts absolutely. We all pondered how Twilight may react and cope with her new royal status, but what if she took it the wrong way? That is basically the premise. What about characters? With the rise of Twilight as dictator-evil-empress, a new caste system has been developed. At the top sit the nobles of the new civilisation, which are mainly comprised of Unicorns and Changelings. Next stand the middle class, mostly Pegasi, with a few Unicorns and Earth Ponies. After that is the working class, a mix of the bunch, with all three pony races, but mainly Earth Ponies. But at the bottom of the pile are the non-pony races, Zebras, Dragons, Gryphons, and the rest of the races that inhabit the new Equestria. The mane six are still about, but have gone into hiding to stop themselves from being targeted by the empress. If you wish to play as one of them, let me know via pm. What happened to the cities and towns? Canterlot remains the capital of Equestria, but has been rebuilt and renamed to Equinia after the destruction of the culling. Other cities include New ponyville, the once peaceful village turned bustling city, rivalling the population of Canterlot, Las Pegasus, Stalliongrad, Manehatten, Appaloosa and Thunderneigh. Since the return of Sombra, many crystal ponies have fled the empire, but it does still remain, albeit in a crushed, hopeless state. But rumours have sprung up of a new village free of the empresses' corruption nestled in the mountains, named Dusk's Blossom. If this is a war, what weapons can we use? A few good outcomes have come about since Twilight's ascension, including the acceleration of pony technology. Equestria is very much in a Victorian like era, with steam and magic powered machines hitting the scene. This means that yes, there is guns, but nothing to the standard of what we have today. Think of old bayonet rifles and flintlock pistols, nothing too advanced. But be aware that swords and other bladed weapons are still the main choice of Equestria's military. Magic weapons have been developed too, with steam/magic powered blimps taking to the skies for aerial combat. What are the factions we are fighting for? I am going to say that you don't necessarily need a faction, but they go as follows: The GEF, Grand Equestrian federation: This was founded shortly after the culling, and it's main role is to serve as Equestria's military backbone and police force. They mainly utilize the old ways of pony to pony combat, meaning swords, bows, lots of numbers, and powerful Unicorn magi, but do have a rifle force, and a blimp air force ready to deal out some damage from the skies. They also employ gryphons as elite aerial shock troopers, and Dragons for when the going gets really tough. Empress Twilight Sparkle also has her own personal bodyguard, comprised of elite Unicorn, pegasus and dragon soldiers, led by none other than Spike the dragon, who is sworn to give his life for his empress. The RLF, Royal Liberation Force: An army of rebels who operate in secrecy in the Equestrian underground, these brave souls use guerilla warfare and unconventional tactics to outsmart the GEF. It is the oldest group of rebels the GEF has had to put up with, and the first to stand up against the new empress. It is a rag-tag group at best, comprised of hired mercenaries, former soldiers of the royal equestrian military from before the culling, and civilians who feel that it is time for a change. They fight with whatever they can get their hooves on, but focus a lot more on attack and guerilla tactics than the GEF. As for your own faction, if you wish to create one, by all means do, as there are many other movements throughout the time of the revolution. If you do, you will have to explain their cause to battle, how they came to be, and if possible, what sorts of tactics and weapons they use. Time for some applications! Here is the basic layout, don't be afraid to add stuff if you think you need to. Name: Your name dummy! Age: How old are you? I will allow fillies and colts, but they will not be able to get into the nitty and gritty of the revolution. Gender: As Professor Oak said, are you a boy or a girl? Race: The races are Earth Pony, Pegasus, Unicorn, crystal versions of the previous three, Changeling, Zebra, Gryphon or Dragon. Please, no Alicorns. Alignment: What faction do you support, if any? And if you are indeed in a faction, a rank would be nice too. Place of Birth/Starting Location: Where does your character hail from? Physical Appearance: What does your character look like? Small or tall? Any distinguishing features, maybe a scar or two? Nothing too crazy though. Personality: Just who is your character? Are they shy and forgetful, or loud and clumsy? Perhaps they secretly are into pop music? Cutie Mark (If available): Your special talent silly! History (Back Story): Give us a quick, or indeed long, backstory of your character. Well, that about does it from me. If you have any questions, and I mean any, please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks all for reading, and I guess I hope to see all of your apps!
7. -sigh- I must admit I haven't been posting, even though I have been watching the thread hoping for everyone to start up again. I am still here though, even though I may not be talking much.
8. -General Applejack, RLF forward command, the frozen wastes- Applejack considered her options, a defensive lock down would give the RLF time to regroup and wait for reinforcements from down south, but then again, if the CE supply line could be cut, it would drastically decrease the CE's ability to fight back. "Hrmm.......... I think it would be best to set up a 5 kilometer lock down of the surrounding area, it would give the other factions time to get their flanks up here and to the fight. Make full advantage of the anti air weapons we have at our disposal, the CE freaks like to use bizarre dragons to flank us." She shifted her stance to a more casual one, and felt the vial of chevalier blood jangle in her pocket. The general began to move for the exit, before stopping and looking back at Striker. "I need to get something to the med-labs before I head off for Manehatten. You now have field command Colonel Striker, don't disappoint me." She smirked, tipping her hat towards Striker before exiting the command center.
9. -General Applejack, RLF forward command post, the frozen wastes- Applejack nodded as Striker asked for an update of the situation, turning towards the map display. The bleach white tundra was highlighted at different intervals, with RLF encampments circled blue, and CE bases and watchtowers circled blue. "Shortly after the demise of the royal changeling hive, RLF forces started to push upwards towards the Crystal Empire. The process would have been simple, but the railroads leading towards it were severed, shattering any means of communication with Princess Cadence's domain. We assumed the worst. But about two weeks ago, after mostly a mostly unhindered journey northwards, the lead convoy were attacked by CE forces. They were lead by what we now know as a 'Chevalier', supernatural warriors most likely under Pierrot's direct command. We suffered heavy casualties, until 2nd Lieutenant Lavender Bloom of the Hades Core managed to dispatch the Chevalier. From then onward we have been under constant attack by CE hit-and-run squads, but 3 days ago we began to target and eliminate key CE outposts and watchtowers. The march has so far been successful, as we believe we are almost within reach of the CE supply line. After it is disabled and any remaining targets are wiped out, we will proceed to wait for assistance from the GEF, Freelancer and Salus Umbra ,before we launch an attack on the heart of the Crystal Empire itself, hopefully crippling Pierrot's remaining military personnel and isolating him to whatever dark, damp hole he is hiding in. Well, that's the short version of the situation anyways." Even from her own mouth, AJ still though there were too many flaws in the plan. So many things could go wrong, what if they weren't even up against the full strength of Pierrot's forces yet? What if the other factions refused to cooperate? She shook her head slightly, that would have to wait. "Now then, I have to ask a favour." She raised her eyebrow and smiled, hoping the colonel could comply. "2nd Lieutenant Lavender Bloom, Free's sister, was wounded recently, and needs some time off duty, so I will be taking her and a small detachment of Eternium Brigade troopers to Manehatten to set up a defense of the city tomorrow. I'm giving you field command of the current operation until Manehatten is secure." The general hoped that whatever procedure Striker had been through hadn't altered his eagerness to get into the thick of things and take command.
10. -General Applejack, RLF forward command post, The frozen wastes- AJ sighed and slowly shook her head towards the colonel. 'personal assignment to assist the war effort my flank.' She thought as he explained, they would be able to talk later. "Well, it's good to see you back I suppose." While he was a tad annoying at times, Striker had been a good friend of her and Free's since the beginning of the revolution, so his quiet demeanor didn't come as that much of a surprise to her. "But lets save the explanation of your assignment for later while over a pint eh?" She smirked as she talked, it had been a while since she had been able to drink freely. "I take it you are aware of the current situation we are in?" She asked, tapping a map display, warping it to an overhead view of the majority of the wastes.
11. -General Applejack, RLF forward command post, The frozen wastes- Striding through the hallways of the base to drop off the Chevalier blood sample at the med labs, Applejack stopped as she felt her comm buzz. "Applejack here." A stern, but slightly nervous sounding voice spoke to her from the other end of the line. "General Applejack ma'am, Colonel Star Striker requests your presence in the command facility. He sounds the same but looks......." The stallion paused for a second, selecting the right words. "Taller." Applejack frowned, where had Striker been? "Rodger that, i'll be there ASAP." She ought to court martial Striker for disappearing for so long, what did he think he was doing? She knew he wouldn't desert the cause, but still she was less than happy to speak with him. Two soldiers saluted as she entered the command facility, which was eerily quiet, save for the sound of map displays and computers whirring. Turning a corner, the general stopped and raised her eyebrow at the spectacle ahead. In front of her stood a bipedal stallion standing on his rear legs, with stupidly large armour covering him from neck to hooves. It looked like Striker, sure. But gods, taller was the right word. She approached the stallion cautiously, resisting the urge to reach for her sidearm. He looked like he could snap a pony's back as if it was a twig. Clearing her throat, she nodded towards him and cleared her throat. "What are you all gawking at? Carry on!" She barked at the majority of the room, who instantaneously snapped back to work. Turning towards Striker, she leaned on the map display and crossed her arms, raising her eyebrow again. "So. I see you have gotten 'taller'. Care to explain the little hiatus colonel?" She droned, clearly not impressed with the stallion, no matter how monstrously large and dangerous he now seemed.
12. -2nd Lieutenant Lavender Bloom, RLF forward command post, The frozen wastes- Bleach-white curtains and the smell of disinfectant slowly came to Lavender's senses as she awoke in the medical ward, her eyes trying the best to keep her from scanning her surroundings. She looked to her left to see a large mirror, and could hear faint murmurings coming from behind it. Getting up slowly, she trotted over and looked at herself brushing a few loose strands of mane from her face. The events of the previous couple of days gradually came back to her, the attack on the watchtower, the Chevalier, her wing............ Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and slowly began to unwind the bandages that covered the appendage. Biting her lip, she slowly unfurled her feathers opening her eyes. The half closest to her torso was fine, but was covered with........ metal. Her eyes crept along the ridges and curves, as she registered what had become of her once graceful appendage. Flaring her metal feathers, she examined her new wing. Tears began to form in her eyes as she realised the horrible truth, she would never be able to fly properly again. She flapped and hovered on the spot, it worked but.............. Gods, why had she been so careless? "Lavender........." The mare quickly pulled her new wing to her side, almost ashamed to show it off. Behind her in the doorway stood Applejack, a solemn expression adorning her features. Sighing, she shook her head. No it wasn't her friend's fault, it was hers and hers alone. She had gotten her squad killed, she had let herself be shot. She turned to her and sat on the bed, flexing and retracting her new wing repeatedly. "We had no choice sugar cube, the wound was infected. It was either force you to the ground or give you that thing." Lavender nodded in response dully. "Your armour had been melted to the fur around the area, we had to remove it completely if you were going to live." Wait, her armour....... "My armour!" She exclaimed, remembering the flask of Chevalier blood she had collected. "I had an asset, in a flask......." Trailing off as Applejack held up the flask, tilting her head slightly. "You were holding on to it as if it was keeping you alive. What's in here anyways?" Lavender gently took the flask off her, opening it and looking inside at it's contents. "Blood. Chevalier blood to be exact." The general's eyes widened, gasping slightly. "You killed one of those things?" Lavender shook her head, handing the flask back to the surprised mare. "Listen Lavender." She sighed, looking her in the eye. "You need time to recuperate, so i'm pulling you off of duty."The general's choice didn't really surprise her. Getting up, Applejack strode to the door. "The nearest city is Manehatten, so we'll head over there while you get used to your new wing. I have to get this to the med labs for now, so i'll see you first thing tomorrow. Ok?" Lavender just sighed and nodded, flexing and retracting her metal wing. Frowning with worry, Applejack closed the door slowly, heading off to the labs.
13. Sorry I haven't posted that recently, some personal issues have come up. But I should be able to get a post up tomorrow-ish.
14. -2nd Lieutenant Lavender Bloom, unknown location in the frozen wastes (3 hours ago)- Lavender half-grinned as the Chevalier yelled abuse at her and took off, giving a small salute in her direction. "I ain't no Freelancer!" She replied, before looking down at the snow covered ground, scooping up some of the blood stained snow and putting it in one of her flasks. It would definitely be valuable for analysis, maybe one of the factions could actually figure out what these things are. As the fleeing chevalier disappeared back into the blizzard though, Lavender felt her head rush. She was running on pure adrenaline alone now, and that was close to expiring. She took a few steps forward again, black spots funneling in and out of her vision. Beginning to pant, she trotted onward, and it seemed like she was making good pace. She looked back, but saw the blood stain again, only a few feet behind her. The mare stumbled, falling to her knees and starting to retch. Once that had stopped though, she began to shiver uncontrollably. The fight must have drained the remaining power from her armour........ Lavender rolled onto her back, staring up at the bleach white sky, not even flinching as the snowflakes from above settled onto her blood stained face. Sighing, she decided she would just lay here, and wait for Free. He couldn't be too far away now could he? Her brother was always late, it was a talent of his. Maybe she would just nap until he arrived. Yeah, she would do that. Closing her eyes, she yawned as the snow fell from the above sky. -General Applejack, RLF temporary forward command base, the frozen wastes (3 hours ago)- Applejack set the small troop carrier jet into full burn, activating the beacon searcher, a large floodlight illuminating the ground beneath the jet. Darting her eyes frantically, the general set a course for Lavender's last known location, a large CE watchtower. She had left from Equinia as soon as she had heard the MIA report over the RLF radio channel, it was on her if Lavender had met her end, she was the one who had authorized her coming up to this tartarus-hole. The medic, her old friend ponyville friend Rose, had volunteered to join her after she had heard the news, and was now sat in the troop bay, waiting anxiously. It was a dangerous plan, Applejack taking an easily identifiable jet like this into enemy territory, but she had the right clearance, and had bluffed that Lavender had acquired a high value asset. A small blip lit up on the forward monitor's display, then flickered off. Lavender's beacon! Making a sharp turn, she turned the jet in the general direction of the beacon and flew low towards it, snow skimming and flying off the streamlined body of the plane."Prep the landing deck Rose, i'm going to have to drop you off and make a turn if we want to get out of there quick." Rose nodded, placing her hoof on the switch to lower the drop ramp, her white and red medic armour shivering slightly. "On my mark." 1000 meters, 700 meters, 200 meters......... "Mark!" Applejack yelled, as Rose slammed the ramp release button and dived onto the thick snow, rushing over to the small purple and grey pile a couple of meters in front of her. The general made a sharp u-turn, her days as a pilot during the revolution kicking in, as the jet swung and landed back in the same position. Grabbing a rifle from the racks, Applejack ran to the ramp and checked her corners, as Rose dragged the unconscious mare back onto the jet. "You're clear general, go!" Rose said said as she knelt down and began to pump oxygen back into Lavender's frozen lungs, grabbing some heat pads and laying them out around the young soldier. The transport buckled as it took off, but was soon back on course. "Is she ok?" The general had to yell over the roar of the engines, but didn't move her eyes from the monitor, concentrating on keeping the jet in the air. "She's not dead. But she's darn close to it." Rose replied, as the transport flew for the field base, where the medical bay was on standby.
15. -2nd Lieutenant Lavender Bloom, unknown location in the frozen wastelands- Lavender was admittedly surprised that her trick had worked, but her success was short lived. The chevalier charged her, knocking her down to the ground. Letting out a muffled cry of pain as she landed on her wing, the two mares grappled on the ice, until the chevaliers strength won over, and Lavender was knocked off of the mare, flying a few feet and landing again on the ice. She did cry out this time, as she clutched her wing, gritting her teeth as she saw the chevalier get up, seemingly unharmed. The chevalier began to walk over to her, a grim smile on it's undead face. Lavender looked over at her with a fierce expression, not willing to give up, not yet. She was about to announce her defiance when the chevalier pulled out a stupidly large butchers knife, with dried blood spattered across the oversized blade. The colour drained from the mare's face as she laid eyes on the deadly weapon, and she gulped with fear. She shifted her position so she could face the mare directly, but felt something dislodge from the armour beneath her left back leg. Her survival knife! The fall must have managed to break the ice that had frozen it in place. The blade was dull and meant for cutting rope, but it would have to do. Lavender scanned the mare's armour frantically, looking for a spot that looked weak enough for her to stab her knife into. There, a section on her lower stomach that was seemingly less armoured than the rest of the chevalier's body. Now all she needed was a chance. The mare was standing over her now, as she picked her up by the armour on her chest and held the soldier to her face, asking her again about Freelancer. Lavender's eyes met hers as she spoke. So much hatred, so much death and destruction. The mare made a silent promise to kill every chevalier she met, it was these monsters that wanted to exterminate her and the rest of Equestria. "You want to know about Freelancer do you?" She averted her eyes for a moment, sighing. Looking back up, she met the mare's eyes again, a frown appearing on her face. "Lets just say, they have knives in unexpected places." Before the chevalier could react, Lavender plunged her blade through the mare's mid-section.
16. I just realised something....... I promise to get Lavender's info up soon. Sorry for the inconvenience guys.
17. -General Applejack, within the walls of the citadel- Applejack smiled softly as her friend slowly broke the embrace. "No problem Dash." She had needed that, the weight she had been carrying on her shoulders had been lifted, she in fact felt quite happy. Feeling her comm buzz, she let it ring for a second, before picking it up. "Applejack here, what is it? ............. Yes, i'll be right there." The general huffed, frowning slightly at her friend. "Listen Rainbow, I've got to take this." She pulled out the spare communicator in her pocket, tossing it to her friend. "If you ever need me, just press the button and say the words, 'apples in the orchard.'" She smiled, drawing the pegasus into another, albeit quick hug, before breaking and taking a few steps towards the exit. "I'll see you later, tell Twily I said hi." With that, Applejack left the citadel, her two guards trailing not far behind. -2nd Lieutenant Lavender Bloom, unknown location of the frozen wastes- Lavender watched her breath curl in the blizzard, following the small blinking arrow on her hoof display. She took her helmet off again, she couldn't stand the thing. Light was non-existent on the snowy plain, and Lavender could only see a few feet in front of herself, thanks to the built in light on her armour. Each snowflake that hit her wing felt like liquid fire, and she began to feel hazy as the agony continued, even with the bandage covering her charred wing. Shaking her head and focusing on the snow ahead of her, Lavender began to daydream again. This time it was blurred, and all she could make out was a hissing static. She didn't mind the noise though, it actually helped with the pain from her wing a bit. Eventually though, her legs began to give, and she fell to the icy ground. Was this it? She rolled onto her back before sitting up, no of course not."Ain't no rest for the wicked." Lavender whispered to herself, shaking her head again. Something wasn't right though, her daydream, there had been the almost inaudible sound of hoofsteps on snow in the background of the static. Almost coincidentally her answer arrived, as something landed on the ground a few steps in front of her. A pony's figure emerged from the shadow, and out stepped a pegasus with one eye red, another a haunting midnight black. It taunted her, which wouldn't have scared her at first, if not for the fact that she announced that she was a chevalier. Lavender's eyes widened as she said this, trying to hide her fearful expression with a silent glare. The chevalier took a step towards her, pulling out a wickedly edged dagger. By now she would have bolted, but when she tried to take off, she winced as her bandages were torn off, exposing her burnt wing to the flesh biting cold. The chevalier inched closer, and now she was directly in front of her. One thrust from that dagger and that would be it for the wounded mare. At the last second before Lavender was sure she would strike, the mare spoke, telling her she would let her go if she told her about the Freelancer organisation. Freelancer....... Lavender racked her brains for anything regarding the mysterious group. Trained, augmented and armoured agents, weapons that were years ahead of anything the other two factions could muster. She slowed her breathing, deciding that she would rather die than help this despicable creature. With a well placed blow and a bit of luck, she might be able to knock the knife from the mare's hand and draw her own. A bit of luck. Gods, even Free would have trouble pulling this one off. Taking another couple of steps backwards, she faked a shocked-with-fear expression, hoping the Chevalier would take the bait. A few more steps...... Yes, now was her chance. Exhaling slowly, she swiftly flung her hoof sideways, attempting to knock the blade from the undead hands of the Chevalier.
18. -General Applejack, within the citadel, Equinia- The mare hadn't expected her friend to answer, but when she did, she listened intently as Dash recited the tragic story of Cloudsdale. Gods, if she had known of what happened to her friend......... "Rainbow..... I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have asked." One part of her story stuck out though. It was almost like a hollow peace for her friend, she had seen her family murdered. Applejack had to live with the fact that she didn't know what had happened to her, whether she had died or lived. Resentment burned, until she realised what she was thinking, her eyes widening in horror. How could she.... The thought of what she had nearly said..... It made her sick, it made her disgusted at herself, how far would one have to drop to even think that? A thought struck her, was this what it was like for Free in his final days? Despising everyone around him, they had families, possessions, he had nothing. But also hating himself for even thinking that about his closest, his only friends. She shook her head, but it done nothing to dislodge the complex of conflicting thoughts in her head. Applejack suddenly became aware that her friend was still stood next to her, and by the looks of it, close to tears. It seemed like a common thing nowadays, ponies clutching each other for support that rarely could be spared. "Come'ere sugar cube." Applejack whispered sincerely, bringing her friend into a tight hug, also holding back tears. She spoke in a quiet, sincere tone, the same one she had used to put........ her....... to bed after nightmares. "You listen here. Twilight is an amazing mare who can handle anything tartarus can throw at her, so don't you worry. We both, we all know her better than that, whatever happened to her...... It's in the past." She paused for a moment, sniffling as she took in her breath, fiercely fighting the temptation to let herself break down. But when she opened her eyes again, she wasn't facing Rainbow Dash. She was in a fire-lit living room, where the sounds of sobbing permeated the air. She looked down, at a small, sniffling bundle, curled up in her embrace. The bundle was orange in colour, with her yellow mane in little pigtails with neat red bows in them. This poor little foal had just recently lost her mother. She looked up at her, tears in her large eyes. The green mare smiled lovingly, but stayed silent. Applejack understood what she had meant now. Sometimes, silence really was the best answer to a question. She stayed silent as she embraced her friend, patting her back and stroking her rainbow-coloured mane.
19. -General Applejack, within the citadel, Equinia- Applejack sighed, Rainbow was right. The RLF existed only because of the way they had fought in the revolution, guerrilla warfare was their bread and butter. "Your right, your right. Heck, I only authorized the march up north because I wanted to get back at those crystal freaks." The general took off her hat, scratching her head. Her mane was frizzy and unkempt, a result of constant sleepless nights from drills, work, or just nightmares. "And no offence to the GEF and Freelancer, but it didn't look like neither of you were thinking of mobilizing any time soon." She chuckled at her last comment, it seemed she hadn't completely lost her sense of humor yet. A foal was playing in the courtyard far below, and Applejack squinted to watch the young earth-pony. It's coat was a light tan yellow, her mane a cherry red. A large red bow adorned her hair, just like.......... The scene from below caused Applejack to nearly gasp as she snapped her head away from the window, was it her? Or just another pray from her subconscious. The general's mouth began to run dry, and her breath caught in her throat. "Hey Rainbow...... I've been meaning to ask you something." The question had ached in the back of her mind ever since the blades dropped on the princesses, the day that the revolution was declared successful. She looked at her friend slowly, not with a look that she would normally wear, but the look of a tired farm-girl who had bucked one too many apple trees in her career. "What made you choose to side with Twi..... I mean the Red Fox?" Her mind flashed back to the deciding battle in the war, the haunting plains that were once ponyville, the hundreds of corpses that littered the ground, the lifeless husks of the trees that once filled her farm. "I mean, I can understand if you did indeed think the princesses were wrong in their ways, but after what she had done, the thousands killed...... What stopped you from making a stand?" Applejack found it difficult to keep her mind on the present, but she kept her gaze on Rainbow, it was something she generally had wondered. What had happened to the light-hearted prankster she had once called one of her closest friends? Maybe now she could find out.
20. (phone post, I'll edit in the morning.) -General Applejack, within the citadel, Equinia- Applejack was on the verge of punching the stupid clerk in the face, but was stopped by the sound of a grunt and a familiar voice. "Rainbow!" The general exclaimed as she stepped towards the wounded mare and nearly embraced her, but stopped herself. She coughed, clearing her throat. "It's good to see you're in one piece. You scared me with the whole bomb thing." The office clerk spoke up about how Twilight had said herself that she couldn't see the general right now, but she couldn't be bothered to listen. Her features relaxed, and she put on a small smile. "I actually came here to discuss your condition with miss high and mighty Twilight Sparkle, but I can see you are just fine right now. Plus I could actually use some advice." She frowned for a second, recalling the large skirmish from a couple days ago between the Eternium Brigade and the Crystal Empire. "3 days ago, a large convoy of Eternium Brigade soldiers were attacked by Pierrot's forces. The cause of the attack is unknown at this point, it could just be to lower our numbers. But the scary thing is, the site of the attack was only a few hundred mile's north from New Manehatten. And that means that if the predictions are right, they could be on our doorstep within the next couple of weeks at the rate that they are moving." Applejack finished her explanation, a grave look on her face. She looked out the window for a second, shaking her head slightly. The city was not ready for an attack of that magnitude. "And even if we could send everything at them, it's estimated that the attack we faced up north was from a small detachment of soldiers. Even if all the factions worked together, we would still need a miracle to win." She looked back at Dash, her eyes full of concern.
21. -General Applejack, outside the citadel, Equinia- Applejack strode through the streets purposefully, looking up to the towering skyscraper of a building that was the Citadel. It was a marvel that the GEF had managed to restore it so quickly, but marveling at buildings could wait. She looked either side of her, making sure her personal guards could keep up. The armored ponies didn't falter, the Eternium Brigade were a steely bunch. Word had reached her that the GEF and Freelancer were having a meeting, and she was furious that she and the RLF had not been invited. It was obviously important, as her earpiece buzzed as a RLF watchtower reported a gunship flying into the Citadel, armed to the teeth, probably Freelancer tech. It still troubled her how secretive the organisation was, and it didn't help that so far it looked like they hadn't actually done anything for the war effort yet. She would have let the two factions plot their little conspiracies in peace, but there had been a terrorist attack recently, and Applejack feared that Rainbow Dash had been wounded. The visit was also to discuss the health of her friend. Friend? She had openly rejected her friendship at starlight hill, professing just how much she despised the rainbow-maned mare for joining the GEF. But then again she had visited her after the first attack on Equinia........ Her cheeks flushed red and she growled quietly to herself, she couldn't let thoughts like that anywhere near herself. She had a job to do, like it or not. Coming to a halt at the gates to the courtyard, Applejack waited for a guard to address her. After the usual fuss, she managed to get herself and two of her guards in, while the rest waited outside the gates. Marching into the large entrance hallway, the mare headed straight for the elevator that would take her to the upper levels, not noticing the GEF soldiers watching her cautiously. As she reached the elevator, she opened the door and stepped in. A nauseating smell permeated the air, some kind of disgusting smelling perfume. The general frowned and tried to hold her breath as the elevator accelerated towards the highest levels of the tower, where the meetings were held. The doors slid open silently, and she stepped into a room barren room, with guards at each corner, and a pony at a desk sat next to a large door, which she assumed was the meeting room. Walking up to the pony at the desk, she had to wait a couple of seconds before the unicorn sat at the table acknowledged her. The unicorn looked up at her blandly, adjusting her glasses. "General Applejack. How may I help you today Ma'am?" The obviously bored unicorn half said, half groaned. "I'd like to request a presence with Miss Twilight Sparkle." Applejack said calmly, regaining her composure. The unicorn looked down and typed something into a computer, before shaking her head. "I'm sorry ma'am, but you need to book at least 3 weeks in advance to hold any meetings with Miss Sparkle. I can book you in for 3 weeks tomorrow if you would like." Applejack's eye twitched once as the unicorn spoke, something about that tone just made her want to strangle something. Her Eternium Brigade guards stood silent, like muted tin soldiers in a foal's bedroom."It's urgent war business, I have all the credentials here." Applejack pulled out a small dossier from a pocket in her uniform, and slid it across the table to the mare. The unicorn took a glance at it, then typed into her computer again. "Sorry ma'am, but a meeting like this can not just be called instantly. The earliest I can book you in for is next Tuesday." Applejack ground her teeth in frustration, she was starting to get very annoyed at this desk jockey. "I don't think you understand." The general slammed her hoof on the table, making the unicorn flinch a little. "I have soldiers up north fighting to keep little greedy mares and stallions alive. So do not give me this corporate flank attitude. I demand a presence with Twilight Sparkle now!" Applejack yelled, echoing down throughout the halls of the citadel. -Lieutenant Lavender Bloom, (2 days ago) The frozen wastes, near ruins of royal changeling hive- A map was laid out across the metal floor of a troop transport, as soldiers gathered around to see what the plan was. The map displayed mostly the bleach white of the wastes, but occasional black and red circles were drawn across it, with a large square with multiple arrows pointing directly towards it sat in the top left corner. Captain Cloud Runner knelt down beside the map, signalling for the troops to hush. Lavender Bloom listened intently. "Alrighty then fillies and gentlecolts, here is the game plan for the next couple of weeks. And sorry for the lousy map, all the jazzy stuff got blown away with the AA guns yesterday. All of these circles represent enemy bases, it's our job to take them out. Delta core, your target will be here. Theta core, your target will be......" Lavender slowly tuned her ears out, beginning to fall into another daydream. It was dark, cold, but surprisingly, it felt like home. A light flashed in the distance, distant murmurs on the wind met her ears. She tried to call out, but no sound came, only a strangled gurgling noise. The lights flashed again, lighting up something. Two ponies, one a stallion, one a small pegasus in the forest, hunting deer. A stallion in chains, laughing as he was whipped and tortured. A stallion in the streets, giving one last farewell. Slowly, a bullet left the first sequence, then the second, then plunged into the third...... "........... And Lieutenant Lavender Bloom, you and Hades Core will be taking out this base here. It is a vital watch tower, something I feel your squad should be suited to disposing of." Lavender shook her head, clearing the cobwebs from her mind. "Yes sir." She said sternly, nodding. "Then that's it for now. Suit up and be ready for deployment by oh-five-hundred. Eternium Brigade! Dismissed." The soldiers gathered in the room snapped to attention crisply, then left or their respective sleeping quarters. -present- Lavender resisted the urge to scream madly as she fell away from the rapidly-exploding tower behind her, spreading her wings with practiced ease. Her whole squad, dead....... Even the commander. Oh gods, it was all her fault. How would she explain this? She was drawn away from her thoughts as something whizzed just past her head, singeing the side of her helmet. Flaming arrows left the ground to meet her, and she tried to dodge the CE archers. Just as she thought she was away from it though, an arrow whizzed past her left wing, setting it alight. Before pain had even began to register Lavender screamed, plummeting to the ground. She awoke hazily, half drowning in the snowdrift that had broke her fall. Pulling herself from the icy grave, she sat down in the snow, panting and looking side to side. A tingling sensation started in her wing, followed by a ferocious, all-consuming pain. Lavender cried out, seeing her half scorched wing. The damage wasn't too bad, but her flight feathers had been burnt away. That didn't help with the pain though, as the mare popped out a small medical kit from her backpack. Most of the things in there, her rifle, her food, her supplies, had all been crushed by the fall, but luckily she still had the life-saving little green box. She applied the burn gel and wrapped her wing in bandages, before checking what else she had left after the fall. All but her knife had been crushed. Wrought with despair and shock, Lavender got up and began to walk around, sealing all of the access ports of the armor, essentially creating an airtight barrier. It was still freezing though. She tried to remember the way she and her squad had came, they had been southwest of the watchtower at the base. She looked at the hoof display on her armor, luckily that had survived as well. She was 10 miles north, with a raging blizzard in between her and safety. Lighting up the nearly futile S.O.S. beacon on her armor, something that actually needed a signal to work, Lavender began to make the long trek home, knowing that she would probably be found by something eventually, for better or for worse.
22. Wow, this looks really deep. It's good to see that Valence's world of Coltara hasn't been forgotten, a shame that she is still on her big hiatus. Anyways though, here is my app. Name: Red Herring. Age: He's middle aged, about 30. Gender: Stallion. Race: Unicorn. Profession/Job: Detective and part time adventurer/bounty hunter. Appearance: A tall and lightly built stallion, he has a bland, grey coat and crimson red mane, with bright crimson eyes. While seeming quite average to the normal onlooker, he is capable of quick bursts of speed, and can handle himself in a fight if blows come to blows. He will normally be wearing a dark grey military style overcoat, and the trademark black fedora that comes with the detective business. Personality:Red is a stallion of mixed personas, although his normal demeanor will be that of a charming, quick talking rogue who can talk his way out of most situations. While he is normally sober, he has been known to drink when he is sad, depressed, happy, or many other moods. This drinking problem will not cut from his razor sharp wit though, as although he will not seem like much, he hides a fierce intellect and is a nimble fighter when provoked. Although, sometimes his attention span can be the equivalent of a sparrow's, and he tends to obsess over any question that comes his way, be it worthy of his time......... Or not. He has his flaws, but is a resourceful and tactful stallion, who is not afraid to get his hooves dirty when he is needed to take action History/Background:From the time when he was a foal, the world always presented Red Herring with more questions than answers. Always the smart-flank, his demeanor often got him into trouble, earning him the title of one of his town's most disliked young colts. Being an orphan though, there wasn't much more that he could do. He moved out of his orphanage and joined the equestrian military force as soon as he could, and for a while made a living as a sergeant who was hated by his men. One crucial mistake cost him his career though, as being drunk while manning a vital sentry post isn't the best of decisions, and was dishonorably discharged. Soon after though, he donned the iconic fedora and began his career as a successful detective, solving case after case in Canterlot. While he was happy, he still missed the combat side of his military career, and added part time bounty hunting to his list of skills. It still wasn't enough though, there were still too many unanswered questions. He was drawn to ancient history and philosophy, fascinated by Equestria's long forgotten past, and began to study and explore ancient tombs and archaeological sites. Soon enough, word reached him of a scholar looking for a team to explore a supposed ancient land, and while a tad wary at first, he gave up his detective job and left Canterlot to join the group. Goals/Objectives: Red believes that this ancient land will hold the answers to the questions in life, the questions he has been dying to answer since foalhood. Whether he is right or wrong, he believes it will at least shed some light on it. Besides, he's been bored recently anyways.
