1. I can't be PMed? What does it say? I should totally be PMable.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. My inbox wasn't just full, but OVERfull from back when I was a mod and could hold way more PMs. Should be fixed now. PM away. My skype name is dessa.brewington, so you can request on there too.

  2. Just finished the main game. My crew:

    Dedenne -- Electric + Fairy

    Delphox -- Fire + Psychic

    Swalot -- Poison

Venussaur (Mega) -- Grass + Poison

    Golurk -- Ground + Ghost

    Delcatty -- Normal

There are one or two weaknesses here, but that's why I like having a Normal type around. Broad immunities!

I haven't restarted to get anything specific, but I did switch out a lot of mons on the way to the Champ. Kept it nice and challenging that way.

If anyone is interested, I've started a Skype group for Pokémon: The Very Best Channel, along with a google doc of friend codes (all people from around this corner of the Pony community). Message if you want in!

Also, kirby: Gogoat is a total boss.

  3. Starswirl's spell isn't what transformed Twilight, it was Celestia. As soon as Twilight finished the spell, Celestia summoned her.

If you'll recall in season 1, Twilight tried to cast a Cutie Mark spell on Apple Bloom and it failed repeatedly. She explained that such a thing was completely impossible. But here, she completes it -- a spell which can alter a pony's destiny itself. That's major, dude.

  4. Also, I remembered something. Who caught the Lou Gehrig reference during Twilight's speech?

    Care to explain?

When you show me an equine that can actually get a sunburn. Since they don't exist, in my mind, never.

Horse's nose and albino zebra, both with sunburn. It can totally happen.

She might have some earth pony blood in her....But I don't believe alicorns are actually all three races of ponies blended into one living creature. ... I'm sure alicorns symbolize the three strengths of each pony...Flight..Magic..Strength...

This hasn't quite been made canon, since it has not technically been put into an episode, but Faust Herself explains:

The only races in My Little Pony are Earth Pony' date=' Pegasus and Unicorn, and they are all treated equally, ruled by a leader who embodies the traits of all three.[/quote']

I suspect a lot of the opposition to Twilight's ascension is that our main relationship to alicorns, Celestia, show her as not only super powerful, but morally infallible as well. Celestia doesn't even seem to have any personal flaws -- She's just good and wholesome. This is wonderful in a mentor figure, but would be terrible in a protagonist like Sparkle. But keep in mind that Celestia and Luna are over a thousand years old! They've had a lot of time to hone their power and purify themselves (and as we've seen, Luna had a major hiccup along the way).

We have no indication yet that Twilight is either super powerful nor morally infallible. She's just got wings now, and maybe earth pony blood in her veins.

    Great episode: A rating.

But none of this matters. Nothing matters until Ginger Mint.

  5. Good gravy, that's a lot of text!

Ginger, are you a competitive person yourself? Some of what you say reminds me of the sorts of arguments that non-sports lovers make against sports. Namely that if the consequences of sports are bearable, then sports are entirely pointless.

I think that's trying to apply logic to a matter of emotion. The purpose of sport is debatable, but even fans acknowledge that it's just a fun reason to be emotionally invested in something. It doesn't need to have a point.

Rainbow Dash, as we know, is very competitive, and the last time the games were going on, her team lost! This time, her home team isn't in the game, but she still has a favorite. It's like how people choose a favorite for the Super Bowl simply because its more fun to root for a team when a big event is going on. She's rooting for the crystal empire, and moreover, she can actually impact whether her team wins.

If you want an explanation for Dash's behavior, you need look no further than this. And if this mystifies you, that's understandable -- it's not really a settled subject. People still debate the reasoning behind it.

  6. I always figured Harshwhinny just picked the Crystal Empire because it's the Crystal Empire -- It's been gone for a thousand years and it's the hot new curiosity. As for her saying "she got an unbiased reception," we saw a bunch of bad stuff happen to her, but we don't know what happened off camera. Probably just made her feel good to see a regular Jill get the Royal Treatment for once, too. And y'know, sometimes when you feel good, you make choices to perpetuate the good feelings, even if they aren't the smart choices. I'm sure Ginger can tell us the name of this particular psychological phenomenon?

  7. Ginger...liked an episode and would watch it again with no reservations?

Everypony, we have a Changeling! *tackles Ginger*

Hey, me too! I'm probably a bigger hater than even she is, and I loved this ep. Pay attention to me! Me!

Speaking of Spike though, he has come a along way since his debut in the first season and has really evolved from a background character that the fans hated with a passion at the start to a all round fan favourite in the last two seasons

i don't remeber fans ever hating Spike though...

  8. Overall, I did like this episode. I just wish they had spent more time developing Discord longing for his friendship with Fluttershy. Let him think about it for a while, not a 2 second "Well played, Fluttershy". If they had extra time to add tension to the idea that Discord would be free to do what he wants but suffer from being alone and rejected, the episode lesson would have spoke mountains more than the rushed one that we got.

    Nailed it. Thank you.

  9. I hated the episode, for the reasons already gone over. The good parts were good indeed, but they didn't cancel the bad. Discord's heel-face turn was too abrupt (and it DIDN'T need 44 minutes to make it work, it just needed more concise writing), some of the little gags felt off, like when Flut looked right into the camera and said "oh dear" (for Pinkie, it adds to her character of being "just a bit askew," but for Flut, it just took me out of the moment -- Who was she talking to?).

The laughs were good but the story was bad. I guess that's what happens when a 15 year older and two other writers have to wrap a script up on short notice.

  10. If you're not pleased with the course of the RP leave. No need to mull about over it, and point hooves and all that. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.

As a GM, Blackthorn, just remember that the players can and will leave if they don't like how you do things, and take this into account when planning sessions.

In either case, I'm nipping this in the bud before it gets nastier than it has. Thread locked.
