What do the symbols mean beside the usernames in the list of nicknames?

The symbols beside the names are special status symbols. They're used to show who is a moderator and who is a special priveledges user. Those with the @ Symbol are Moderators for the channel (Also known as Operators or Ops). They are responsible for general control of the channel and enforcing its rules. This means whenever an Op says something, it should be listened to without question, as they have the power to remove someone from channel. Someone with a + symbol are known as Voice Users. Voice users can talk when the Op has set the channel to a mode that regular users can't speak and should also be listened to just the same as any Op. You may see this commonly as a 'mode' setting, I.E. 'Dio has set channel mode +m'

Note: The Ops and Voice symbols may vary depending on what client you are using. For more information on what the symbols mean, consult your client's documentation.

Everyone or a group of people logged off at the same time! (Or, What is a Netsplit?)

The Chat is actually hosted on NaughtyGazelle.com which is a third-party IRC hosting source for Internet Relay Chat. The way this chat works is by having multiple servers networked together to all work together as one. This is called 'Synchronization' which allows the servers to all share the load of all the users on the network at once to keep it nice and fast. Occasionally, the servers will become desynchronized, which results in it appearing that many people left the channel all at the same time. This is normal and will automatically fix itself in a little while, so when it happens, don't panic!

What is Nickserv?

Nickserv is a service provided by NaughtyGazelle.com to hold username information for NaughtyGazelle.com's users. This includes usernames, email addresses and passwords. When registering your nickname for the chat through nickserv, it is recommended that you choose a password different from the one you use on the board.

What is CanterBot? Why doesn't it ever talk?

CanterBot is a bot (A robot!) that sits in channel and performs functions that help the moderators perform their tasks in channel. CanterBot may occasionally speak on his own, and should be heeded! Most of the time.

Help! My nickname is already being used!

Because NaughtyGazelle.com is a service that thousands of users may use at any given time, it is possible that your nickname is 'common' enough that someone else may have already be using it somewhere. We don't have any control over this unfortunately, as NaughtyGazelle.com is not directly controlled by Canterlot. Occasionally, you may have been inadvertently disconnected from the network and the network still thinks you are logged in. This is commonly known as Ghosting. However, there's good news! If you have registered your nickname with Nickserv, you can kick the person or off your nickname by typing the following:

/msg nickserv ghost nickname password (I.E. /msg nickserv ghost Derpy muffin)

You can only ghost a nickname that you have actually registered. Once you have ghosted a nickname, you can switch to it by typing:

/nick nickname (I.E. /nick Derpy) and then re-identifying with /msg nickserv identify password (I.E. /msg nickserv identify nickserv muffin)
