This is moonshineTheleocat's JavaSun. I really like the way he turned out. Hopefully moonshineTheleocat will feel the same way. I decided to go ahead and finish the last three portraits before the thread concluded cause I plan on opening a new one in Canterlot Chronicles at some point.© art by me, character by moonshineTheleocat

Hey guys, today, I'm gonna... review an episode of My Little Pony? Yup, today I'm gonna review Season 4, Episode 18, also known as "Maud Pie" Let's begin. I'm a huge fan of Pinkie episodes, and when I saw a thread about this episode, I was pretty exited that Hasbro FINNALY made a Pinkie episode after some time. The episode is great all around, Pinkie has a third sister, everyone is now discovering it, not to mention... I have nothing else to mention! Actually I have plenty things to mention. So I was REEEEEEEEEEALLY exited to see Pinkie's third sister, Maud, until I actually saw her... *sigh* REALLY Hasbro!? Really? It seems as though everypony in Pinkie's family is just dull and bland (Except for Pinkie, she's one of a kind), but Maud, ALL she's interested in is rocks. She even has a pet rock, a pebble named "Boulder", gee, what an oxymoron. Don't get me wrong, I still like Maud, but in my opinion, she's just doesn't really catch my attention as a character. (Except when she punches a giant rock into dust) So I give this episode a 7.5 out of 10.

Once in a blue moon, I meet someone actually interested in giving the show a chance. Which makes sense, considering that when dealing with anything with this much hype behind it, one might imagine there must be something to it. Do you recommend a specific episode to them, or just let 'em run wild with whatever they happen to grab hold of? I make an effort to suggest watching "Lesson Zero" before episodes one and two. Why? A lot of people have a hard time appreciating the first few episodes (even certain bronies), because they just don't provide viewers with as much of what many bronies get out of the other episodes. I feel like the character "introductions" are all shamefully flat and done in a hurry, and the humor you see spotting the show just isn't there. I believe you can actually get a better feel for the characters through other episodes, because what you learn by watching them in action dwarfs the pitiful introductions they received. I'm not trying to make it an express point that the first two episodes are bad, I'm simply stating that it's often difficult for a newcomer to really appreciate the introductory episodes for what they are. I don't believe that they do the show proper justice, and that when trying out the show for the first time (especially if one has drooping expectations), it's better to open with something that will. This isn't all written in speculation, either. I've had much better results (although this may just be coincidental) recommending Lesson Zero than shrugging and saying, "start at the beginning." Once the viewer has a feel for the show, it will be easier for them to appreciate the first two episodes and the logic behind them. I feel like it's because the show (like all media) has a "style" behind it that viewers can grow attached to. I'll make a personal example out of my feelings towards the band "Modest Mouse." They jump around between a variety of genres, many of which would be difficult for me to get into. I listened to one of their songs, titled "The World at Large" at a music sharing party, and fell in love with it instantly. I listened to more of the music they produced that was similar to The World at Large, and somewhere along the way, it came to be that it wasn't the songs I liked, but the artist. At that point I found myself enjoying their other work as well; pieces I never would have found anything in before dotted my library because I had fallen in love with their "style," per se. I believe this phenomenon occurs not only in music but in webcomics, art, television, and multimedia in general. How did I get so far off topic? Tl;DR? pOst whtvr Epsode U use to shw mlp 2 ppl. GOGOGOGOGOGOGO!

Okay, so here's the why of this... My co-workers are, well, your typical male guy. For the past week, they have been deathly confused as to why I am a Brony. How this came about? Simple, I've been wearing Applejack on my keychain and have refused no one, customer or co-worker, a straight answer as to why I have her. They ask, I answer. They become confused, I explain, their brains go into a gridlock. Last week, after 3 months of them giving me odd looks, one of them finally worked up the courage to ask. My boss looked oddly mortified to find out that I have been a Brony since March of last year, seeing as I have been working for him for almost two years now. He, above everypony else, is trying his hardest to figure out why I'm a Brony. I actually find it kind of endearing. The thing is though, no matter how much I have suggested they watch an episode and find out for themselves, they immediately shoot it down under the assumption that "men don't watch this" which in turn restarts the vicious cycle of questions as to WHY I am a Brony. I am assuming that this stems from typical gender roles and ideals about typical male behavior being too far ingrained into their psyche to allow such as thing as, well, us to exist. Its the only logical explanation I could find to their constant queries. Plus, I am getting tired of repeating myself if they are not open to the idea of exploring the answer for themselves. So I aim to fix this. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast going Trollestia on them now that they know where the terms are coming from. So much freedom. But, I'm starting to think that their inability to "shame" me for being a Brony, yet alone find an acceptable explanation as to why, has begun to render them innate as typical "male" guys. If males cannot "shame" each other by effemination, and as such belittling that individual's role as "male", they themselves fall victim to that effect. This can lead to passive aggressiveness between the individuals. I do not want that, and as such have propositioned them with a challenge. It involves a 12 pack of their favorite beer if they succeed. I never bet unless I know its a certain win. And their Achilles heel? I know them. As such, I have bet them that, if they can watch one entire episode, ONE, without laughing once... I will buy them a 12 pack of beer. Now for the "WHAT" I am trying to get out of this poll... I am simply looking for the funniest episode. The conditions for this are not so simple though. What I need is an episode that is funny but it must meet 3 conditions... 1) It cannot be too overly cute. 2) It must stand by itself. i.e. It cannot rely too heavily on already established character developmental plots. 3) No songs, not yet. I have given them the option to skip the intro because I know they won't bear it. I didn't the first time. Now, you might be saying, "Well, that just takes everything away that makes MLP so awesome!" Trust me, I know this and I regret it. But what I'm trying to do hear is appeal to their main weakness as per my observations. Humor. I have to do this in baby steps so as to not send their systems into shock. Kind of like introducing a new species into a new ecosystem. Now, the first candidate for this bet, as luck would have it, used to "secretly" watch Powerpuff Girls. I learned this from his wife. She likes to gossip. Her and Rarity would probably get along swimmingly. Point is, he's the easiest target out of all my co-workers. If I can get one to understand, and maybe convert, then the rest should be easy pickings. So, what do you say fellow Bronies? Care to help me avoid having to buy a 12 pack of beer? Oh, and maybe help me convert my entire workplace, one individual at a time? TL:DR I'm trying to figure out which episode is the funniest so that I can convert my workplace and they can finally stop asking me why I'm a Brony. Seriously, I can't make my answers any simpler and the gears in their heads still seize up like a badly maintained county carnival ride.

Thanks Swirly! I'm flattered. A looooot of stuff goes wrong with cocoa baking because the two types of cocoa available (dutched and natural) vary in pH by quite a bit. Dutched cocoa is alkaline, whereas natural cocoa is acidic. Both can muck with the leavening in a baked good, especially in cakes, so it's very important to see if the recipe calls for dutched or not. This recipe should be fine with either because we're using steam to cook the flour and give it a little lift and texture -- it's going to have a crumb to it, but it's going to be fudgy. Any neutral oil will work, such as vegetable, canola, peanut, safflower, etc. When you mix it, the ingredients will be a bit pasty. You'll have to form them into the bottom of the mug or bowl, but it's definitely as close to a "fudgy" microwave brownie as you'll expect to make in 2 minutes.
