Spike the Dragon The sound of holiday music in the air, along with all the various smells from cinnamon to pine, to peppermint was enough to set anyone in the mood for Hearthswarming, the added decorations and all the market stalls offering everything from expensive jewelry to candy really cemented that holiday warmth - despite the snow that was pushed tot he sides of the streets or was clinging to the roofs of houses and canopies. The little dragon was walking down the paths in the market with a satchel slung over his sholdier - officially he was here to deliver some royal letter for Twilight, but unofficially he was looking for a gift for her, since she missed the town that she had spent years saving and making friend in... of course there was also the not-insignificant hope that he would bump into a certain somepony here... but while ever-present in the scalie's mind, it wasn't at the forefront right now as he sipped on his mug of hot cocoa, occasionally looking around and tapping one of the marshmallows so if bobbed down below the surface and back up... trying to find a gift for his friend that not only wasn't something she would likely find in canterlot, but specifically would make her thing of ponyville... so far he was coming up short... but he was sure he would find something soon! Atleast, he hoped he would....

I really enjoyed that episode. My art was a little rusty when I drew this because I hadn't drawn in awhile. It's also closer to the show's style than I intended but I seem to do that when it's the first time I draw a character. There's a fair share of things bugging me with this one but overall I'm pretty happy with it. *nodnod* Edit:: Because of the dark backdrop, some mistakes are showing up that I didn't notice before. Eh, I'm too lazy to edit it right now. It might be magically fixed later though. :I -

As some of you might have seen on my personal blog, I have yet another rp ideal rushing around in my head. Here is the premises: The day had started just like any other, the denizens of Ponyville have begun their day just like they always do. Starting up the shops, going to school, making and going through with their plans, and hanging out with their friends. Twilight had begun her day as well with a new spell book, and a new project. Of course, Spike was by her side and aiding her with the project. When she revealed that she learned the spell to see into other dimensions ever since her experience with the mirror. Spike wasn't so sure about this at first, but that didn't make him stop helping his friend. It wasn't till Twilight placed in the last ingredient and cast the spell that something strange happened. A bright glow on the wood floor began to rise up, encasing the entire house in a bright white, then quickly changed into a dark blue. It was then that the blue changed into a surreal image of what seemed to be just between Canterlot and Ponyville, except there seemed to be a lot of differences from what the two were use to. They saw big, round, flying crafts in the air. Two in particular were the biggest out of the rest, having the names on each one; Luna and Celestia. The spell didn't last long and the image went away, but not before they saw their friends dressed in strange and interesting clothing. Twilight was utterly giddy at this discovery, so much so that Spike was beginning to worry that she would go even farther. Night had fallen, sleep had found Twilight and Spike as it did every night; it wasn't till the next morning that something happened. "Wake up, sugarcube." Spike heard as he began to open his eyes, seeing a familiar light orange filly standing over him, yet something was off about her. Instead of the smell of apples coming from her, there was a thick, mucky smell now, like oil. That was when he realized he realized that not only was she different, but so was where he was. He wasn't in Twilight's treehouse, but seemingly in the air, inside one of those flying crafts nonetheless. Now Spike had to find out how exactly he got here, was there a way back to his dimension, and how was he going to fit in with these mares? They looked like his friends that he's known since the birth of his life, but they looked completely different as well.

It was late - the sort of late that hung between being far too early to start the day, and far too late to get a good night's rest. Being awake wasn't a problem, really - there weren't usually pressing matters in the morning, not during the cold, short days of winter. Spike didn't really want to be awake, it would make him all the crankier the next morning, as those around him would surely expect that he be every bit as useful on half an evening's sleep as he would be on a full night's rest. 3 o'clock, said the enchanted little glowing hands of his trusty mechanical clock. Something along those lines, anyhow. 3 was generally just a bad hour to be awake, unless a really good party was involved. Nobody he knew wanted to be up past 3 in the morning, it just wasn't healthy. But, that wasn't the problem either. What was bothering him was the noise. The twisting of sheets, the quiet yet distinctive huff of frustration, the tiny little tells that said something was awry. Twilight was either having a bad dream, maybe even a nightmare, or something was keeping her up. He didn't think it was her wings; she was getting used to those, or so it seemed, and that wouldn't have her kicking every now and then at her increasingly-wrinkled sheets. Of course, Spike was used to Twilight being restless, but usually he was able to point out the reason with easy precision. Tests, finals, overdue letters, mind-teasers she'd been working on all day, puzzles she was still solving, spells that had eluded her considerable repetoire during the day... those, he'd heard her toss and turn over. But she hadn't really been working on any of those things during the day - or if she had, she'd been uncharacteristically silent about voicing her frustrations with them to him. Not that she was the only one with something hanging on her mind, if that was indeed the case - Spike couldn't sleep either, though with a much smaller stature and fewer limbs, he'd been quieter about it. Things were on his mind, too, and if Twilight was awake enough to continue her stirring, then the odds were that she was cogniscient enough to tell that maybe Spike was similarly restless, not that he'd be aware of it either way; Spike thought himself to be much more subtle than he actually was. The young dragon ended up deciding to break the slightly uneasy silence between the newly-realised princess and her draconic assistant, choosing his words and his tone carefully - he kept his voice low and hushed, his ennunciation clear, his words slow, and most importantly he avoided calling her name, as it might subconsciously alert her if she was sleeping. This may have been proposed before, but I had an interesting thought about what you might call the species of such a hybrid. Particularly if this has happened before with other Dragon/Unicorn pairings, and especially of the offspring of such pairings ever found each other and 'breed true'. I.E. the kids are a true blending of the species instead of a Dischord-esque calico hodge-podge. The child of Rarity and Spike would be a Kirin.

It was one of those averagely busy days in the treebary - or at least, busy for Spikes friend and mentor Twilight Sparkle, whom had left the dragon to his own devices once he'd woken up, made breakfast and tended to all of his regular morning chores. He knew she wasn't going to be venturing outside or handling any particularly difficult something or other to do that might possibly require his assistance, which left Spike at a loose end...and he was feeling JUUST a little bit restless as a result. His mind raced for things he could do on his own here, but it all seemed a bit...empty...without having Twilight to goof around with in any real way. "[colour=#008080] Hmm... [/colour]" Spike uttered to himself in thought, drumming his claws against the table he was currently sat at - a nearly finished bowl of Quartz balls sitting in front of him, which he occasionally picked at and crunched on as he pondered the days activity, or at least the direct lack of it and how he could possibly go about rectifying this fact. Outside, the sun was pretty darn strong, and it seemed to be giving a particularly inviting warmth...giving the youngster dragon a rather sudden urge to go boldly forth into Ponyville and discover perhaps a myriad of things that might well help to keep his inquiring dragon mind occupied for an indeterminate period of time! " [colour=#008080]Maaaybe there's something interesting going on outside... [/colour]" Spike concluded, flopping back down to the ground from his chair and making his way towards the door - for the most part, everything here was pretty much in order with regards to his normal morning chores - and there just didn't seem to be anything else he'd really need to be hanging around to do...and given Twilights considerably busy demeanour right now, he could hazard a guess she'd be like this for most of the day. "[colour=#008080] TWIIILIGHT - I'M GOING OUT FOR A WHILE[/colour]! " Spike calls to the back, hoping that the unicorn could hear him. "[colour=#008080] I'LL BE BACK SOON[/colour]! " And with that, he walks outside of the door - closing it behind him as he ventures forth into the bustle of Ponyville, in search of something to do!

It was morning in Ponyville. Spike let out a full stretch the moment he awoke. This is when he noticed something was not right. For one thing, he felt a lot smaller than he normally did. His bedding which was rather snug for an teenaged dragon felt more like a king sized bed than a simple cot. Once he started to grow, he had to move out of Twilight's bedroom and his beloved 'doggy bed' and into the library's basement. Which was something he was never too keen on doing, but it was either the basement or he would have to find another home, and he couldn't even think about leaving Twilight. While he remembered the potion the mulberry unicorn had given him, he did not remember going to bed that night. What he did not know that his foster-mother had given him a sedative along with the transformation potion, knowing full well how painful it would have felt to have one's body quickly shift from dragon to pony. He glanced down at his new body, at least he was still purple! Feeling the desire to see how the rest of his new form looked, he started to climb out of his bed, only to tumble head first onto the hard floor, "Agh!", he yelped. This pain was a new sensation for him as he was no longer covered in a protective coat of scales, but now the only thing that kept his skin safe was his pony fur. "This is going to take some time getting used to", he reached over to touch his cheek with his right hoof. "No fingers! How in Equestria am I gonna help Twilight when she needs me to write letters for the Princess? Oh duh!", he thought to himself, "Twilight made me a unicorn like her! Would only make sense, I was a magical dragon, so I'll be a magical pony.", he slowly got up from the floor and tried to walk. Before he could just place one foot in front of another, but now he had four feet to contend with. It took him some time to get used to it, he knew Twilight would forgive him if her breakfast was a little on the late side, but with a little dedication he was able to make it to a mirror. "Holy guacamole!", he yelped as he paused to admire his reflection in the mirror. Twilight sure made him into a handsome looking pony! But something was wrong. Instead of a proud horn on his head, he wore a pair of strange, webbed purple and light green wings on his sides. This didn't make any sense! He was supposed to be an unicorn! He shrugged before giving his new pair of wings a flex, "Well, at least I'm a pony.", he muttered to himself. As he was getting older and larger, uncomfortable urges started to fill his very being. He felt the need to horde, and his growing appetite was starting to get out of hand and while she would not admit it, he was more than a large burden on Twilight's financial situation and he hated to see Twilight worry so. Other urges started to flow, and after scaring Applejack's sheep one day, he wasn't permitted near the farm for more than a few months. And while he was still able to fulfill his appetite on pony-food and gems, he still felt the need for something a little fresher and a far more fleshier. He had considered moving out of Ponyville and back into Canterlot. The princess' probably could have used a big dragon to fight on their side against the kingdom's enemies, but he still wondered how long he would be 'Spike'. Would his mind change with his body like it did before? Would he become a monster? He flexed his wings, pumped out his chest and growled, "Why hello Rarity! Noice anything different about me? Huh? I'll give you a hint!". He waggled his eyebrows at his own reflection before turning away from the mirror and towards the stairs. The need to eat Applejack's sheep and to horde was no longer a problem for him..Getting up these stairs..Now that might be a problem. It seemed like forever, but he was able to get up the stairs and only managed to give himself a few bumps and bruises along the way. He was able to push open the door, "Hey Twilight...er..", he stopped realizing what he said, "Er..Mom? Hey mom!", he glanced around the Golden Oaks Library, hoping his 'mother' was awake.

Hey, everypony. After watching the Season 2 finale again (who can resist re-watching it?), I noticed something that confused me in part 1. Just before Twilight begins her song about herself and Shining Armor, she says that, "Shining Armor was the only pony I ever really accepted as a friend". What about Spike?! Now I know she said "pony" and that Spike isn't a pony, but still, she could have said "except Spike" or something like that. Any thoughts on this?

Sugarcube Corner was much better known for its fresh-baked treats than its coffee and Shining Armor could tell. This was the epitome of office swill. But really, he couldn’t complain considering it was after hours, he was getting it for free, and well, he was the one who made it. There was only so much you could do with instant. The shop floor was cleared, its tables empty and its fresh display cases cleaned out for the night. The lanterns in the dining area were still lit, however, bathing the shop in their soft glow. The Cakes had been kind enough to leave the shop open for him which was fortunate given the circumstances. The captain idly ruffled the pages of his newspaper, less concerned with the content than finding something to pass the time. A plate of cupcakes sat to his right, a single one of the dozen and a half floating idly next to his head. Shining Armor took a half-hearted nibble at the treat before setting it back down on his napkin on the table. He wasn’t hungry, but it was a courtesy to have them on hoof. That said, cupcakes were the least of Shining Armor’s concerns. Across the polished white surface of the table sat a very dejected-looking lavender unicorn, her mane tangled and frazzled, ends split and knots going every which-way. Scratches and scrapes covered her front legs and face and the faint odor of burnt hair still lingered about her. Beside her, boosted by a small hay bale, sat an equally dejected-looking dragon. His short stature placed his arms at just about table height, the hay bale barely accommodating him as he stared intently into his coffee cup. The dragon was just as frazzled-looking, several of his spines crooked and some of his scales looking scuffed and charred. This wasn’t exactly what Shining Armor had been planning on his social visit to Twilight in Ponyville. “So...” the captain began, not without a hint of awkwardness. “How exactly did this happen?”

In Episode 21, spike recieves a letter from Princess Celestia when he meets up with the teenage dragons, the red teenage dragon takes the letter and destroys it. What was in that letter? Was it an explanation for Spikes origin? Was it an emergency? A warning? WHAT WAS IT?! D: What do YOU think it was?

Ships. Ships everywhere. A great, vast, blue expanse stretched in every direction, his to patrol, his to explore, and his to set sail upon. Captain Spike – it had a nice ring to it, and with captain's hat and admiral's vest, he felt very much the part. Standing at the helm of the C. S. Infrequency, he felt very much at home, with his cargo of gemstones and silks above and below deck, to be shipped by February 14th. The clouds above, like marshmallows, and while smaller, oddly-coloured ships sailed in the distance, he made certain that his own white and purple galleon would be well-secured. All was well, all was calm. But then, an alarm! The shill jangle of incessant bells! The bells, the bells were crying out, the very world around him shaking just a tad with their piercing noise! He could feel himself being tugged up, sharply rising up and out of his fine ship, the whole world fading away... And then he fell out of bed, his dutiful alarmclock shaking the endtable with it's racket, rattling this way and that like some tiny, enraged little box of springs and cogs. Spike let out a groan, then an “Alright, alright already, I'm up...” But, rather than dutifully rise from the tangle of bedsheets and scales, he simply lay there, trying to drift back to his ubiquitous dreamland. The clock, however, would have none of this lollygagging, and though if by some mind of its own, the incessant ringing and rattling sent it slowly forward, to the precipice of the bedside furnishing, and then down onto Spike's forehead. It was, very clearly, time to get up. “Ow! Alright, alright already... ow.” A hand to his forehead, and up got the number-one assistant. A bit more painful than being dumped unceremoniously out of bed by an annoyed Twilight Sparkle, perhaps, but no less indignant. He picked up the still ringing alarm, clicking it off with a grumble, then set about remaking his bed, tidying up a bit, and grabbing a few sapphires. Breakfast food was blue! However, he didn't stay half-asleep long. It was not coffee nor gems nor magic nor even loud sounds that got him awake – it was a look at the calendar, it was nearly the eighth! “It's Monday already? Oh, man, where'd the days go! Hooves and Hearts day's coming!” This much, he knows! “I don't have a gift to give Rarity yet! Oh, I'll need a really good idea, I'd bet.” So Spike puzzled and pondered, then snapped out of his little rhyme, trying to think. Ok, it was monday, no need to panic. Just play it cool and think it through and get something really thoughtful. It was his first Hearts and Hooves where he actually had anyone to think about, so maybe it was important? He let his mind wander for a while – surely there'd be stallions at her door! They might even line up the evening before! With serenades, trinkets, sonnets and jewels, she'd have at her beck any number of fools! But her attention she'd win, and in that he'd entrust; he had to be Rarity's valentine, he must! Still... nothing came to mind. What did you get such an elegant pony for Hearts and Hooves day, anyhow? Did it matter that he didn't have hooves? Would that be something he'd have to compensate for? He'd need advice on this one, and he'd need it somewhat soon. So, with a quick bit of tidying and chore-completion, Spike gathered up his good backpack, a few bits, some gems, and what ideas he could gather, and started heading for the door. "To Ponyville market!"

I asked a little while back which of two poses would work well for the banner, and this was the pose chosen; however when all was said and done I realize I could have both poses in and still have at least 50% of the base of the banner for text. Anyway for the pose people like more, I made it a small standalone pic with an added background (the actual banner background is transparent so the background color for the site can be seen). Even though this is to celebrate February and by proxy its main theme of Valentine's Day; I don't see this as a ship pic or them as a ship couple. Instead I see Rarity caring for him deeply as a friend, and while she is aware of his crush on her and does not feel the same way, she can still always be there for him whenever he needs a shoulder to cry on or whatever.
