1. This thread would be set in and around Appleloosa, and would be centered around Thunderbuck and Stormstride rolling into town with a recent caravan. Both are looking for temp work, and have a wide range of skills outside their primary talents. As well it would introduce some of their personality quarks and and a better back history for the pair. It also explains a few bits about their nature as vagrants and their choice in living outside the norms of most pony society. No combat in this thread, but deep discussions between characters are welcome. MLP Cast characters are welcome in context to the area and situation. Such as AJ visiting her family or the mane six coming to check on the peace between the buffalo and pony kind. The main theme here is social interaction and getting to know each other.
2. Celestia’s sun painted the sky a beautiful red and orange as the dawn pulled the cool night away. After weeks traveling across the desert Dusty was more than ready to spend some time in a town… No, not just a town but another home. It’s been many years and Dusty hoped they'd forgotten him and what he did the last time he visited Appleloosa… And the times before that. Honestly he felt nervous about walking into that town but it’s only fitting the first town he visited after all this time be the first town he ever did a robbery in. Swallowing old pride Dusty pushed on from the night's camp and started walking as he played out all the events that may happen. Worst case? He’s going to jail for past crimes. Best case? No pony in town remembered him and he’d get a Appleloosa welcome with no pony knowing he use to be a Gang boss. With some luck and time on his side it will be the later of the two and he’d get to enjoy the town and not have to worry that some sheriff with a old grudge was going to slam a chair over his head. ---- The walk was short as Appleloosa pulls closer and Dusty stops shorty to look the town over. It looked bigger! Hardly surprising seeing how long he’s been gone and how fast it was growing back then. But even with new buildings he can spot the bar he so loved to visit with his gang. The train station was just like he left along with the train pulling away. How many Trains did he hold up? Too many. Shaking off the last of his fears Dusty pushes onward “Hope ya missed me Appleloosa, ah shur did.” He whispered to himself with a small grin, now or never too see if Appleloosa was friendly as it used to be! Not like they can miss somepony like him walking into town. How often does that even happen? Most come in from train far as he remembered and even less look’d like him... What vary well may be a bad thing, all it takes is one pony to remember and start shouting for the sheriff to make things go south faster then calling a Minotaur scrawny.
3. There was a bit of a lurch as the train pulled into the Appleloosa station causing Willow Wisp to almost tumble out of her seat. She'd been napping the whole trip, having left the night before and traveling through the day. The sun was just setting as she yawned, grabbed her saddle bag and slowly exited the train. It had been awhile since she'd been in the settlement just on the edge of the desert, and more importantly it had been a long time since she'd seen him. Willow Wisp looked down at her feet. Braeburn was a very special pony to her. Last time she'd been there she brought him some seeds for a strange black apple tree, and after planting it, it became clear that there was more than just a friendship there. But then she took off again... she was a PMIA... Pony Missing In Action. Maybe he'd be upset. Maybe he'd met some other mare who was actually around. She tried to not think about it as she slowly trotted toward his farm house. She hadn't meant to be gone so long, but it was a special mission. It was something her father asked her to investigate and after a long journey she had the object of study in her possession. When she finally reached the farm house she paused and looked around. Maybe he was still out in the fields, then again the sun was going down. She wondered how the tree with the strange black apples was doing. They were tasty, even if they were odd looking. "Um..." she cleared her throat and knocked on the farm house door. "Braeburn?"
4. [[ A continuation of this RP. ]] Bakery, bakery. Where the buck was the bakery? Since arriving in Appleloosa, Inkbrand had done nothing but wander in circles, become increasingly dehydrated, and partaken in somewhat one-sided conversations with ponies, mollies, and one rather interesting griffon with a penchant for shedding feathers at inappropriate and inopportune times. Still, he now had a green mare sufficiently broken to his will following along as his side, which the grey stallion supposed was as good as anything else. Especially considering that, for all his griping and complaining, Flora Bloom really was allowing him to stay the night at her…place. Saved him the bits for a room at the local inn, and gave him enough left over for the train ticket back to Manehatten. Though, Inkbrand still couldn't say how much he was looking forward to sleeping out in the desert. Flora better have a deluxe suite set up with a four-in-one heating system. "Bakery would be great if we could actually find one," the tattoo-clad stallion groused, head twisting this way and that as he watched ponies going to and fro about their business, "or maybe they'll have 'em down at the orchard? Don't suppose your little hiding spot has…er…" Inkbrand slowly trailed off as he happened to glance back at the green mare, only to find pretty much her entire face shrouded in green mane, like she was actually trying to provide a barrier between the two of them. Something he had noticed her doing several times, in fact, but with just the two of them together, seemed an added insult over inane shyness. Buck. Couldn't be having that. "'Ya know," Inkbrand drawled out loudly, sliding over in one smooth movement and sticking his muzzle directly in her face, "in most cultures, it's generally accepted social behavior to make eye contact with the pony you're talking with." One grey hoofed raised to carefully but rather messily tuck the fallen green strands away from Flora's face and behind one ear, effectively clearing up the area to reveal - green eyes. Bucking of course. Still, much better, and a self-satisfied smile spread over Inkbrand's face, even as he remained exactly where he was. "There, better. See? I'm not so ugly you have to shield me from your gaze, now am I?" he teased, with a coy wink. He knew he wasn't anything to scoff at, but if Flora Bloom needed some help in figuring out what she was missing behind her hair, well. Dr. Inkbrand was here to enlighten.
5. Since coming to Appleloosa, Bluebelle had settled herself very nicely in Apple Bow Cottage, just at the edge of the town where she'd started her own garden of different types of flowers....granted, the first year had started out very harshly due to the weather and not accounting for the heat or just how arid the Borderlands were. But living sheltered in Canterlot most of your life didn't really prepare you for this sort of thing. Eventually however, things started to even out and eventually plants started popping up. Not too many, but enough to at least make her little cottage notably greener. After the winter where, even in this part of Equestria, it had got much colder, she was tending to the little buds and shoots that were just now starting to poke out of their earthy beds and into the warming spring western air. Once the gray-blue molly had set out a tray of rose hip ice tea she'd been saving for her work day on the tiny table she had out on her porch, she set about sorting out her gardening tools for the day. Everypony was most likely busy with the apple harvest and she couldn't blame seeing a few of them pass by looking exhausted. The poor things. Another reason she'd made so much of your drink too, but that was only if ponies were going to drop by. Once she had her little hoof wellies on and her gardening trowel, she quickly set about regrooving the rows that her little blossoms would be blooming out of come the height of spring. A watering can sat to the side for after her work, even plants needed a little refreshment too! As the molly worked, her long ears twitched every now and then at the odd clippety-clop of passers by. Not that she was expecting visitors, but she wouldn't be affronted by a visit whilst she worked. Humming softly to herself as she tended to her little garden.
6. Everywhere the visitor trotted in Appleloosa, townsponies looked up at the earth pony wondering just what was with his crazy get-up. He looked more at home in a amateur theatre production than anywhere else in Equestria, let alone a lonely settlement on the Frontier. Truth be told, such sediments weren’t off the mark; our pony of today, Barley Mayberry, should have stuck to the stage than continuing to assume the mantle of ye’ ole’ Sheriff of Trottingham. But if Barley didn’t step up to claim that ceremonial position indefinitely and use it to the good of all ponies, who would? A no-talent hack? “Sheriff” Mayberry cantered through the main street with an intense look on his face, an expression that meant serious business. That didn’t stop everpony else from thinking Barley looked the part of a fool, but the Sheriff of Trottingham had more important business to dwell. Today marked the beginning of the end of that blasted Apple Dumpling Gang, which made the serious mistake of robbing a train right on Trottingham’s doorstep. Those hooligans would soon learn what happens that when they mess with Trottingham, they messed with the Sheriff of Trottingham... who couldn’t be played by no one else other than Barley Mayberry. Before he could trek off into the desert on his mission, Sheriff Mayberry felt he needed to kick the lawstallion of Appleloosa into high gear. Whoever their sheriff was, they needed to get off his flank, join the hunt to find the Apple Dumpling Gang, and deliver justice onto them. To this end, he found the simple building on Main Street marked with a star and the word SHERIFF, and theatrically slammed the door wide open. “ATTENTION!” Barley made his presence known as he cleared his throat, knowing to he act like an important Sheriff of Trottingham at all times; “I do believe that the sheriff of this fine town is on the premises, is he not?”
7. Every cantina on Equestria’s western frontier needed a mysterious patron, who sat in the back corner all alone and shunning nearly all contact. The Salt Block in Appleloosa was in fact housing a customer of this sort today, although said customer was by no means just another drifter cowfilly. Rather, the mare’s cloak and large floppy hat made her look dreadfully out of place; a city pony in the heart of the Frontier. There was a time when A.K. Yearling would have prefered pouring over old maps and lore in the solitude of her own room or any other deserted location. After a few run-ins with some… let’s just say unsavory characters, the author figured out that paradoxically, her research of ancient legends was more likely to go undisturbed by the wrong ponies if she conducted it right out in the open. And so here Yearling sat in the Salt Block, her table all cluttered with old tomes and scrolls as she analyzed each and every one of them for clues on where to find… an object of significant interest. So absorbed in her work was the pegasus that she didn’t bother taking too much heed of everything else inside the cantina.....

9. Pleasant "Cheery" Flurries Today was yet another wonderful, sunny day in Appleloosa. Normally ponies from the small town wlouldn't say the same, as Appleloosa was always sunny. And hot. Oh so hot. The heat would normally affect the hard workers who take care of the town's apple orchard, or any other job requiring to work outside making it really tiring to work in due to the sun, as Cheery would say. That's what Pleasant Flurries works towards, what she wants to achieve. To make the hot, sunny town of Appleloosa bearable with frozen treats and ultra-powered fans, spreading chills and balanced temperatures everywhere! And that's what she does everyday with her pride and joy, 'Cheery's Ice Cream Emporium of Wonders and Fan Store', an unnecessarily long name, but Cheery believes that a long, colourful title always brings in the most customers! So, in order to work at her pride and joy, first she needed to get out of bed, which Cheery was currently failing at. "...W-Wait Mr. Bunny...D-Don't leave with my pancakes..." Cheery continued to dream... well, whatever she dreams about, and sleep past her alarm clock, which was still ringing away without disturbing Cheery somehow. The clock continued to go off for another twenty minutes before she finally snapped out of it. "...Thanks for the nice...Wait, what's that ringing...?" Before she knew it, she was out of bed with a panic-ridden look and a messy mane and down the stairs. "What in the name of Celestia's wrong with me!? I've never slept past the clock before!" She stopped by the kitchen and got what she needed, set up her counter, cleaned up missed messes from yesterday, and flipped the 'Closed' sign to 'Open' all in about in a span of about ten minutes. She had been doing this all of her life, setting up an ice cream shop, so it wasn't too hard to cover all of the bases. "Good, good. I'm not too early, not too late. I'm fine, noponies going to be angry." Cheery took her spot from behind her counter and took out a necessary piece of equipment, the menu, and placed it right near the cash register. Cheery didn't need to look at it to know what the prices were, as she memorized them all. Single scoops were three bits, doubles were five, waffle cones were an extra bit, and her special super-powered, custom made fans were fifteen. Ponies could just ask what flavour they wanted, she had them all. No stone was unturned when it came to ice cream flavours. She had all the basic's and even some strange ones that she came up with herself, that were surprisingly delicious. Keeping a cool head, Cheery stood by the counter with a huge grin on her face, ready to greet the first customer that came through. She had a nagging feeling that she forgot something, but wasn't sure what it was. With a messy mane and matted coat, Cheery hoped to give her first customer of the day the best start to the morning as she could.
10. From the album: Applepanoble's art.

This is the first picture of my OC, Applepanoble done by Kryptchild. Applepanoble is a cowboy and a gentlecolt as well but he does not have his cowboy hat and vest on in this pic. He lives in Appleloosa and is the adoptive younger brother of Braeburn which I am still working on the backstory but what I can say is that he was abandoned as a colt in Appleloosa but Braeburn and his folks saw him in a alleyway crying and once they found out about what happened, they took him in which Braeburn was very excited to have a younger brother. I am also working on the story on how Applepanoble got a dual cutie mark, which is extremely rare in Equestria to have a pony to have two cutie marks though his are together.
11. Geary wiped a bead of sweat off his brow. while his transport was ment to be easly reconstructed into a home, it didn't mean it wasn't work. with a sigh of relief, geary took another look at the town. it had a rustic charm to it, but lacked all the modern conveniences of Break Beak city .Geary thought it would just be a quick stop, just a hole in the road of his journey. however, a town, however rustic it is, still needs working technology, and geary grew to like the townspeople . with one last TWAHK! of his hammer, the sign for his newly formed dwelling was finished. THE RUSTY RIVET Repairs, devices, and new doohickeys just ring the bell for service!
12. Gearys eyes lit up. "when did these ceiling fans break? when where they installed? where the eve-" Geary rants, but then stops, after a fact sinks in. "madam, did you say your leaving? and what happened with Mr.thorn here?" geary looked at the aging donkey. he didn't seem to be in any physical handicap. in fact, he looked to be in very good condition. a slight look of confusion hit gearys face, wondering just what did happen...
13. Mirage's brightened perspective was only reinforced by Lady's words. This older pony, who clearly had some measure of experience in the world, agreed with her conclusion, which made her feel much better about it. The pegasus' inexperience was likely her greatest weakness, which made experience an effective salve to her wounded ego. The metaphorical cloud that had settled over her when she had first landed had all but dispersed, returning her to much better spirits. She was now certain that even despite the fact that some days may be terrible and disheartening, she would be able to gain experience from the matter and end up a more knowledgeable pony than she had started out as. Or, as her mother had always said (but she had never quite believed) 'mistakes are the best teacher's we have.' So, when Lady asked her question, Mirage responded confidently. "I can't say there are," she grinned, no longer glancing sadly at the skies. Instead, she focused on the earth pony. "But, I could ask the same of you, just for politeness' sake," she said, extending the same courtesy that Lady had offered her earlier.
14. Gale couldn’t help but slip a smirk at the acknowledgement of their names, resisting the urge to lightly giggle at the monk’s hint of dry wit. Taking wind of the stallion’s related questions, Gale looked over at Plucky once more, who was dragging a her talons back and forth as the hen eyed spacily as nopony in particular; the perfect “I’m innocent” pose, not that she had much to do with the donkey being up so early. Making a subtle shrugging motion, she set her gaze back on Zephyr and Swift Breeze. “Eh, not quite.” She answered Swift first, “She jus’ follows me around some. Plucky’s more of a pet than a farm animal, but speakin’ ah which,” The little jenny turned more towards Zephyr. “We - my brother an’ I - we moved jus’ this week, from our family’s farm I mean. But the house he got? It’s a little, well, beat up in places...” Gale scuffled a forehoof nervously at the understatement.”But m’ brother, Finch, he’s stardin’ up business as ah repair jack, so things aren’t too bad. Still, we’ve been fixin’ up the place since we got ‘ere! He lemme take a break from workin’ today, so that’s why’m up early.” The warm desert air was slowly started to take the place of last night’s chill, but that seemed to be the last thing on the donkey’s mind. While she noticed the warmth creeping alongside the rising sun, such an instance didn’t particularly matter much in her mind. After all, Gale was anything but an indoor show horse, and while the sweltering heat could be bothersome while working on their new home, it was more of a tedious thing than an annoying setback.
15. The bottles were clinging against the side of the crate, as the little buffalo was jumping through Appleloosa, evading as many ponies as he could. As we all know, stealing crates of rootbeer wasn't really something you could do everyday - unless you were the buffalo castoff, Honovi! Ha ha, the light-weighted thief had stolen a bottle of Pony Pop Rootbeer, but after drinking it.. he found himself wanting more! So now, he was carrying a entire crate with him, as he traveled through Appleloosa back to his makeshift camp. He would have a good ol' drinking fest once he gets ''home''! Appleloosa seemed rather quiet for this time of day, which made stealing 'supplies' only way easier! There was only a slight breeze, tumbleweeds rolling through the quiet streets, and the barks of a dog somewhere around town. He grunted and looked around the street, now actually hoping that he would see somebody to outrun. ''..'Ey! Anypony, or anybody 'dere?'' he calls out, tipping his top hat up slightly.
16. Ok so me and a buddy of mine on here had the idea to do a red dead ponies crossover. Basically after John Marston dies he is given a second chance at true redemption by the "Strange man" (he was supposed to represent the grim reaper or some such) by being sent to Equestria. In an alternate turn of events Jack is there too as he seeks revenge on the officers who killed his father immediately upon seeing his demise. they gun him down and he is sent to Equestria with his father. The story begin in Equestria similar to the beginning of the game with John out cold on the side of a road outside appleloosa (he's a pony now) where someones OC will have to pick him up and bring him home. Jack will wake up in town by an outhouse. Jack will be rather excited about the new experience after the initial shock of it all while Jack must try to adjust to a world where all the vices of his own are nonexistent and violence is unheard of. There are no guns bombs or whatever, this the Equestria we all know from the show so the Cast characters are welcome to join, along with any OCs of course. John and jack meet each other at the sheriffs office applying to take up the task of locating a missing settlement south of Appleloosa. All characters are welcome to try to accompany John and Jack on a journey more of self discovery and bonding than anything else, but there will be a fair share of action. Dont expect John to be nice to your character. questions? advice? is this workable? interested?
17. She had tried to relax, even nap a little, but Willow Wisp could only sit and wait. It wasn't that the party outside had been too loud, as she was use to tuning out noise being a daytime sleeper. No it was just a busy mind keeping her from settling. What could it mean, us? That word had so many meanings. Maybe Braeburn didn't want her bothering him anymore. But that seemed a little uncharacteristic of the stallion's manners. Maybe he just wanted to talk about their friendship, set some boundaries. After all she did just show up out of the blue. And she still felt like she interrupted a date even if that was unintentional. But what if it was something else completely? What if he wanted to talk about the future of the relationship...perhaps more than just friendship. The Unicorn bit her lower lip at that thought. She couldn't let her mind get too far ahead. For all she knew it could be nothing at all. She just needed to wait until they met up and spoke. But that was hard, just waiting.... waiting. Eventually she heard the party die down and she looked out window of her room. Things were clearing out, decorations coming down and ponies were heading home. She paced back and forth. Did she go out and try to track him down? He probably had walked his dance partner home, right? That was the gentlecolt thing to do. Should she just go outside and wait to see if he passed by? Did he even know where she was if he was out looking for her? Willow Wisp drew a long breath and turned to leave her room. She paused by the little mirror and adjusted her glasses before trotting off, down the stairs and eventually out in front of the building. She'd just wait for a moment or two, and if she didn't spot him, she'd try to find Braeburn at his home. Surely an apple farm wouldn't be hard to spot.
18. One of the mares, a soft green one with bright red hair and a wrench for a cutie mark, looked up in confusion. "Where are we?" she asked. Doctor Whooves clapped her on the shoulder "The desert, of course! Nothing special, you've just been eaten for a couple years by a spirit lantern!" he looked over and nudged a stallion wearing a very out-of-date pith helmet. "And you've been gone for a little longer than that. Spectacular hat, though!" But it was Dio's suggestion that finally got him moving. "Ah, yes! Wonderful idea!" He looked around at the dozens of shaky ponies, and the few spare diamond dogs. "Let's all head to town for a bit of a fry up! I'm famished! Great way to end an adventure!" He paused, and nudged a few socks out of the way, and his eyes brightened. He picked up a deep red and grey diamond-patterned sock. "I was wondering where you'd popped off to!" He slung the sock over his shoulder, then picked up the little abandoned lantern in his teeth. "And I know *just* where *you* can go!" The lantern gave a faint little blue flicker of response, as Doctor Whooves happily walked forward, leading the whole mob back towards his cart - and past that, towards the town of Appleoosa. There was a train full of ponies who were very, very, very late in arriving.
19. A hulking figure trod steadily across the Painted Pinto Desert, ignoring the ache in his muscles. He paused to brush his mane out of his head and the sweat out of his eyes. The newly renamed Shadow Boxer had walked for what seemed to be an eternity, and truth be told, he was getting sick of it. When he first started, he welcomed the endless hike, because the alternative was living in a decrepit hellhole of a city, having to sleep with one eye open if he wanted to see the sun again. Trudging through the open terrain of Roughrider Ridge, where there was no place for any assassin to hide, was a welcome relief for him. Not even the grumbling and bad attitude of his companion, Straight Arrow, could dampen his resolve. Straight Arrow wasn't grumbling now, though. He was laying on Boxer's back, his limbs hanging limply around Boxer's sides. As it turned out, Arrow was far less capable of enduring the elements, and so he would spend half the journey on Boxer's back. Boxer had to carry him as well as a ragged pair of saddlebags laden with food, water, and bits. The burly earth pony somehow managed that task, though he would probably lose muscle weight as a result. "Uuuugh," the passenger on his back moaned, The unflinching heat of Celestia's sun had made it impossible for him to nap any longer. Boxer turned to look at Arrow, showing great concern on his face. "You awroight, mate?" he asked. Arrow smiled and lifted his head to look at Boxer, giving it the slightest little nod. "Yeah, roight," he said. "Jus' gimme a... just gimme it." He lowered his head back down, resting it against Boxer's thick flank. Boxer sighed and stopped, nudging Arrow in the back again. "Want some wa'er?" he asked. He got a raspy laugh from Arrow in return. "Nah, yer keep it, right. I en' so bad." Boxer frowned and nudged Arrow again, harder than before. "Yer a black liar, mate. Yeh could blow away inna chuffin' wind roight now, yeh could!" "Eh, stow it, yeh stubborn git," Arrow muttered. "Yeh need it more'n Oi do." That wouldn't do at all. Boxer stopped in his tracks and leaned left, sliding Arrow off onto the sand. The pegasus grunted and groaned when he hit, then slowly got to his hooves. He grimaced and winced, stretching out the wing he landed on. "Wha's the big oidea, yeh bloody idjit!" he shouted, now fully awake. Breathing in the dry air made him cough furiously, interrupting what might have been a full-blown tirade. Boxer simply frowned and took off his saddlebags, pulling a full canteen out of one of the side pockets. It was still a little cold, thankfully. "We got an 'oole canteen lef'," he said, tossing it at Arrow. "Plen'y for boff of us." Arrow caught the bottle in his teeth, glowering at Boxer, and took a few swigs of the water. After a few seconds, he held it out for Boxer to drink from. "Yer turn," he said. The canteen was drained to half its initial capacity and replaced. After a few more minutes, Boxer got his bags back on. "Need anovver roid, mate? Or kin yeh take off an' carry yehself this toim?" Instead of answering, Arrow spread his wings and flew high into the air, approaching the level where clouds might have been were he not in a desert. He looked around and spotted a wooden building or two in the distance. No, wait, it was far more than two. "Ey! Oi fink oi see it!" he cried out. Boxer looked up, squinting and shielding his eyes with a hoof. "Where?" "There!" Arrow pointed slightly to the left of where Boxer was going before. Boxer peered into the distance, but he could barely see anything, just a speck or two. "Yeh sure it's Appleloosa?" he asked. "Iss a bloody town, sure as Oi'm flyin' 'ere!" Arrow shouted. "Le's get a move on, mate!" Without a word Arrow sped off to the town as fast as his overheated body could take him. Before Arrow could vanish over the horizon, Boxer groaned and galloped after him. His muscles strained and ached, protesting their owner's last push before the end of his journey. Soon enough, he could see that Arrow had been right. They had indeed reached the frontier town of Appleloosa. He'd been right after all. It was a much bigger and more reputable-looking place than Bareback Gulch had been. No matter what Arrow said, they made the right decision to press on for a better home. "Foinally made it," Boxer said as he panted to recover from the sudden sprint. "Roight you are mate, roight you are," Arrow said, touching down next to him. "Now what?" Good question. It was an unseasonably hot day, and not many ponies wanted to spend their time outdoors in this weather. Likely they were all cooped up in their houses and doing whatever work they could do outside. Boxer didn't feel like searching outside for one of the few who could stand the heat, so he looked around for a suitable house to solicit. Arrow caught on rather quickly and walked over to the nearest house, knocking on the door himself. He knew that Boxer wouldn't be able to talk to any of these strange new ponies. As per usual, it would be up to Arrow to be the public face of the duo. He rapped his hoof against the door. "Oi!" A few more knocks, just to be sure. "Oi! Anybody home?" ((This is open to any Appleloosa characters who want to interact with these two. Let's just say the first pony to enter the thread is the owner of the house they knocked on the door of!))
20. The sun was shining bright in the Appleloosian sky this morning, a crisp breeze rolling through the air made the normally hot desert town a much cooler place, which was JUST fine by a certain blue tinted Diamond Dog. It was that time of the week again, time for Gideon to pull his cart into Appleloosa and see what kind of suckers...Or customers rather, he could wrangle in today. Now Gideon wasn't like most Diamond Dogs, or at least not like what most Ponies ASSUMED them to be. Gideon wouldn't come to town to steal away ponies or anything so drastic. No, Gideon was a business dog of sorts, or as some would call him, a shyster. Good old Gideon would bring in gems. All sorts of gems, though, these weren't as precious as one would think. But good luck getting Gideon to tell you that. With a sigh, Gideon pulled his cart, an old refurbished 'carpetbagger' style thing as it were, into the market area and parked it, the bipedal canine had a sly grin on his face as he set up, 'Oh Gideon you devil you, you're just too good for you own good sometimes you know that?' he thought to himself as he polished up some gems, sitting them on display, 'Buy em low sell em high, money makes the world go round after all, and I plan on keeping my world spinnin.' flipping his sign to open, the Diamond Dog stepped behind the counter inside and barked, in the salesman sense, "Step right up everyone! No need to be shy, I don't bite! Got some gems once more to sell at a wonderful discount to you charming ponies! Diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires! You'll find em all here! If I don't have em you don't need em! Need a special gift for that equally special someone? Get them a nice ring or necklace! Perfect for any occasion!" Gideon was good at the talk if anything, a gift that got him to where he was today, "Your someone not into gems? Not a problem, I've gold and silver too! And if you're in luck, I may have some Platinum left! Someone you know a touch on the superstitious side? All sorts of 'lucky' crystal and charms! Don't miss you chance!" now all Giddy had to do was wait for a good ol' sucker to take the bait.
21. Jonagold looked up from his spot in the shade of the very last apple tree in the orchard before the farm gave way to short dry grassland, and then very quickly, desert. The tree was his own special place, the apples usually too hard and wormy from their fringe life to be of any good, so the branches were usually filled with whatever bits of natural detritus happened to catch the young colts eye when he was exploring. Currently, it was decorated with feathers he had found and strung with baker's twine to the ends of all the branches. The entire tree fluttered whichever way the wind blew. A flock of vultures wheeled in the air near the mountains that separated Appleoosa from Raptorclaw canyon, the dreaded Griffin Lands, about a good half-hour's trot, but nowhere he'd never been before. His interest piqued, he ran back to the barn to grab his specially-made saddlebag, two pockets on one side (one for snacks, one for treasures he found along the way) deep, but easily opened; one large pocket on the other side completely filled with a waterskin containing fresh well water. A straw poked out of the waterskin side, so all Jona had to do was look back and he had instant hydration. His parents had told him to never go into the desert without adequate water. He had just finished buckling the saddlebag on to himself when a filly came into the barn. From the white coat (although hers was a little less dirty), the gold and pink mane, and even the apple tree cutie mark, she was nearly identical, yet more delicate looking than the sturdy young colt. Now Jona, although he lived his sister dearly, considered her at best a drag to take on adventures, and at worst a tattletale who was always getting him in trouble. "What do you want, Gala?" Where are you going? Can I come? Was her response, while a huge pleading grin was plastered over her face. He'd argue with her, but he knew from past experience that there was no use. It was either put up with her being a drag, or she'd go tell their parents and he'd have to stay home until tomorrow. "Fine, but I'm going on an adventure and you won't have any fun out in the desert. So don't go complaining to me when you're hot and tired and wanna go home". Gala just smiled and nodded, slipping into her similar saddlebag. Together the siblings began the journey in the hot summer sun to the base of the mountains. The vultures had been pecking on a now nearly unidentifiable mass of pink feathers and bones. Jona went in for a closer look. "Jonagold, that is DEEEESgusting", whined Gala, covering her nose with one hoof. "Well, nobody asked you to tag along!", he retorted. He looked at the pile of feathers a bit longer, stepping on one end of the bird wing, and extending the other with his free front hoof, observing how the bones were connected and the feathers worked together. "Aw man, this is cool! I have the best idea! I'll make WINGS, to get some air off the cliffs! Jus' go home, Gala, I gotta find Nova 'n' Arpy!". The white colt gathered up some of the larger feathers into his saddlebag, despite the stink, and galloped off towards Appleoosa. "An' I gotta get me some more feathers!"
22. The Borderlands A harsh and wild dry land punctuated by vast mountain chains that is the border Aquellia and Greater Equestria, the Borderlands is home to a few hardy settlements, large nomadic tribes of Buffalo, and those few hardy souls who eek out an isolated existence in the remote corners of the great Painted Pinto Desert where they are but a law onto themselves. Here partially hidden by the mountains and near one of the oases that occasionally mark the otherwise dry land sits the mysterious capital of the Diamond Dogs, Gaberott, where all the packs meet to discuss matters most important to their kind. Settlements of the Borderlands Appleloosa - A frontier town that marks the frontier between the Painted Pinto Desert and the Saddleveil Plains, Appleloosa is a rapidly growing settlement. Though the surrounding terrain is dry and difficult to tend, the Appleloosans have managed to thrive through a combination of community spirit, agricultural innovation, partnership with the local buffalo tribe, and sheer stubbornness. Beakbreak City - A dirty, dingy industrial city, Beakbreak is a waypoint for the Aquellia-Stalliongrad trade spine. Airships stop here to tank water and refuel before continuing on their way. Beakbreak is also home to a large ship-breaking yard, where old and decrepit airships are broken down into scrap and salvaged for parts. Bareback Gulch - A small, quiet town on the ridge, Bareback Gulch is the epitome of bare bones frontier living. The town was established to take advantage of the mineral wealth in the mountain ranges around Roughrider Ridge. As with all mining towns, Bareback suffers from boom and bust times. The town supplements its dependence on the mines with catering to travelers and traders who come back and forth from the various lands west as a restful and friendly waypoint. Las Pegasus - A young but swift growing resort city at the very south of the ridge. Though situated partly in the clouds, unicorns are employed throughout Las Pegasus to perform cloud walking spells to tourists can access the cities many resorts and casinos. The go to locale for ponies after a good time. Dodge Junction - Formerly an REA outpost, Dodge Junction is a small, quiet frontier village. Modest and unassuming, the town is supported by its dairy ranches and its position as a valuable railroad junction and stopping off point for travelers. Gaberott - A desert city nestled against the Bramble Mountains, Gaberott serves as a de facto capital for the diamond dog tribes. Considered a city of mysteries to most ponies, much of the city is said to be underground. Starlight's Sanctuary - Until recently this out of the way settlement along the Tarpans was an attempt to create a utopia based on the idea of true equality through rigid conformity assuring no pony was no more special than any other. Like many lofty ideals seeking to create the perfect society, this one fell far short and the leader was exposed as a fraud. Now the town works to reintregrate itself back into Equestrian culture. Major Natural Features Roughrider Ridge - Roughrider Ridge is the collective name for the mountain ranges and the valley between them, separating the Heartland from the Painted Pinto Desert beyond. The valley between the Brambe Ranges to the west and the Allacor Mountains to the east is carved out by the Trensal River and it is along its banks where one would find any civilization. The mountains themselves are foreboding and dangerous, but are explored and exploited for their potential wealth in minerals and metals, fueling the small economy of the Ridge. Painted Pinto Desert - An arid expanse composed mostly of crushed rock, the Painted Pinto Desert is harsh and unforgiving. Brutal sun in daylight and freezing temperatures at night discourage most travelers from ever venturing into the desert. In some areas, oases and springs allow more permanent settlements to form including the center of Diamond Dog civilization, Gaberott. Buffalo tribes also use the very thinly populated desert as roaming and stampeding grounds. Other geographical features There are three major mountain chains in the Borderlands. The Allacor Mountains and The Bramble Ranges, which make up the borders of Roughrider Ridge, and the even more foreboding and taller peaks of The Tarpans which mark the western most boundary of Greater Equestria and the gateway to the great Raptorclaw valley of Aqueilla and the lands beyond.
23. Another investment opportunity had presented itself, and Max was not the type to pass it up. The new town of Appleoosa had only just been founded, yet it was already slated to be an important waypoint in the western trade. Any smart business pony could see the potential bits to be made there, and Max was determined to seize it first. He would like to just buy the town and be done with it, but he had been informed that it may not be so easy. Of course, Maximilian needed a plan. This was just the premier visit, a simple affair that was meant to create 'recognition' with the town's inhabitants. A very important thing for a business pony. Maximilian simply needed to show them that he was an honest pony, who was genuinely interested in the well being of the town and its inhabitants. The focal point of his plan was the tourist trap, a simple business meant to sell worthless trinkets and capitalize on potential tourism for the town. Of course, it would make bits, all tourist traps did. He would use it to make a good impression on the town folk, and then he'd work from there. This was an opportunity to do something his father never did, spread the empire west. The Rockefilly family had influence all over Equestria, with only one part of the country eluding their grasp, but that was about to change. Max would take every precaution to make sure it would work out. It was a long trip, and the rich pony was glad that he had reserved a few of the train cars for himself. Max finally collapsed into bed, able to rest now that he had determined his potential course of action. It wasn't complicated, he just needed to get off on the right hoof with the locals. Max would buy some real estate, open a tourist trap, buy more real estate, open a bank, buy more real estate, and continue the process until he basically controlled the town. Once he did that, any pony hoping to ship goods to the gryphons through Appleoosa would have to talk to HIM first. Of course he would just operate under the pretense that he was spreading the wealth, failing to mention that it was just being given back to him in the end. He woke up the next morning, refreshed and ready to put his completely legal scheme into motion. Eventually, the small settlement rolled into view, the train pulling ponies slowed down, and Max prepared himself for departure. He had a single suitcase which magically held enough items for a long stay, it stayed by his side as the doors of the train car opened. "Hello, Appleoosa, meet Maximilian Rockefilly jr."
24. The town had been buzzing for days over the news of Maximillian Rockefilly's plans to turn Appleoosa into a trade hub and build a Summer Home there. Now that negotiations were in the final stages locally, the town councel decided a Hoedown to celebrate was in order. Banners and streamers were strung around town, with an area marked off with ropes and haybales for the dance as soon as Celestia's sun sets. Signs were hung at the railroad station directing anypony who arrives late toward inns if they didnt' want to join in on the fun. The stage is brighty lit as the band and the dance caller gets ready for the hoedown. Thorn brays happily as he delivers the punch to the buffet table and heads back to the Bed and Breakfast. Watching the last minute preperations from her front window, Madam Caramel Bistro nervously checks her dress. she literally cannot remember the last time she had a "date" date and is fretting with her dress, a vanilla flower haircomb in her styled mane...
