It was a nice warm sunny day in Ponyville, just like most of their days, the sun beating down in a gentle golden beam across the wide streets of the quaint town, ponies wandering back and forth, attending to their businesses or their general needs, the food places filling their outside seating on a day like today, while many establishments had their doors open to let the cool air through their buildings. One such building was a rather large one, a combination of a quaint home, with a bookstore bolted onto the front, what made this special however was the stock; filled with first and only editions of some of the rarest and oldest tomes in Equestria and from beyond its borders, one could easily get lost between the shelves of the impressive range, no labels on the shelving units, but it was all organised in a way that only the store owner seemed to know about. On the topic of the owner, he was stood behind the tall oak counter in the store, wearing a rather nice pinstripe suit jacket on his grey body, his mane short and cut in a formal way that may have been trendy a few years back, on his front left hoof was a rather fancy and most likely expensive watch, and what was even stranger about him was his age, looking like a moderately young stallion, not the sort to run such a large store on something that would look at home in a grandparent's attic, and yet here he was, hard at work as always, the ever peculiar Coltson, so happy to be living with so little risk in his life.

(Open to OC's as well) What a long night it was. On a distinctly marked trail in the midst of a great Equestrian plain, the stars dance in a clear and lively lit night sky that the Moon Princess shows her true beauty through the brightness of the moon. Trotting hastily down the path, a lone cloaked stallion with a long, black cloth wrapped item strapped to his back. His self appointed task being that of searching first for a particular Unicorn that will be his first step in achieving an even greater goal. His strides filled with a determination and purpose that little can oppose. Through the entire walk, he can feel every ounce of magic energy that surrounds Equestria tickle at every hair fiber... the feeling of such magic an internal thrill that the black Unicorn simply cannot get enough of. The art of casting being his lifelong quest to achieving the ultimate level of mastery, particularly in destruction spells. His cutie mark clarifying his favoring skill, a brilliant blue and cascaded lightning bolt. Though he makes room for spells of various types, his main specialization revolves around destructive forces, such as fire and lightning. Though he knows at least some altering and illusive skills, and some miscellaneous skills as well. Surely not the most powerful Unicorn around... as a true and most powerful spellcaster he believes would be able to cast every spell in existence, excluding no classes(and perhaps all spells at once). Of course, he reminds himself, that he wields only a fraction of the various magics that envelop Equestria. Maybe not even a pure Unicorn could be the most powerful magic user... perhaps Celestia and her sister might be able to achieve such a thing. Perhaps they have already... Though the walk was as long as the night, the still yet calm air about it helped a great deal aside from the food bits that he'd brought with him for the journey, as the eastern horizon begins to have a pink hue to its edge. A clear sign that morning is about to bring forth a new day. The sky already turning a deep blue, and the stars fading away exponentially. As the view of his destination soon reveals itself to him in the dawn. If his calculations are correct... he is a mere hour left from stepping within the boundaries that are home to six potential helpers; his destination: Ponyville.

Today has been fabulous. I slept for only an hour or two. I also had to walk 2.5 miles to work. See, my family went out of town. I knew this was coming, but I kinda forgot to ask it off. I can't drive, and I couldn't find a ride. This is partially because I have no friends. (Okay, so a Facebook status isn't trying that hard...) Anyway, last night I knew I was going to have to walk. But, I wasn't tired. I thought about staying up all night... Then I didn't. Oh, also, I have tiny chickens disease (otherwise known as the common cold). I'm not super-sick, but not all the way healthy. So add that. So, it ended up being 45 minutes to work. Not all that bad. I mean time-wise. It was hot. See, I live in a desert. And yes, it is already hot by 8am. So I ended up early to work, because it took me 15 minutes shorter than estimated. Realized I forgot deodorant, even though I looked at it the night before. I thought I put it in my bag! (Anyway, where is it?) Luckily, I don't sweat all that much. On to work. Today's story is an awesome one rather than a weird one. This lady calls and says she had this book that she misplaced. She remembers what the cover looks like. Inwardly I groaned. This store must have thousands of books. I knew I was not going to be able to find it. Then she said that it was a Christian book. She described the cover as orange, though she said her daughter said it was yellow. She sounded elderly, so I went with that it was probably yellow. She also said there was a little boy on the front. It was about a little boy who died and went to Heaven, then came back to life and told his mom about it. Now, the book desk is located in the middle of the books section. Behind the desk is the Christian section. So, I'm trying to look through the book edges (while still on the phone), picking out yellow and orange ones. Now, I'm a foot or two away from the shelf, so I can't read titles. I'm just looking for colors. My eyes are drawn to these identical two yellow books on one of the top shelves. It looked like there was a little boy on the bind... But I scanned for other yellow and orange books. I asked her to hold while I went to look. At any rate, I'd quickly scan through the orange and yellow books I could find in that section and see if anything looked like what she described. I picked the one I had my eye on, scanning the cover. Yellow. Little boy. Title 'Heaven is for Real'. Picked up the phone and asked if that was it. Totally was. Christian section is decent sized. Not sure what the chances are that the first book I picked up was the right one. Anyway, guess I was channeling the book vibe today. Oh, and as my shift was about to end, the next book person came in. I briefly told her about the books the lady wanted (she a copy for herself and one for a friend), and that she'd be in to pick them up. Get ready to leave, use the restroom... Walking through the store to leave (restroom is at the back) when I see this elderly lady standing by the book desk. The other book person wasn't there yet, and as I approached and said hello, she told me her name (I had taken it down so I knew who to hold the books for). Guess it was luck or something that got me out there when I did. Books I searched for today: Air conditioner (maintenance?) Baby sign language Arizona snakes The Color Purple by Alice Walker -Tales

So, I always feel like I have interesting stories from work. Here they are. (*Note that I live in a small town full of hicks. I work at a video/music/book store called Hastings.) The blog name, firstly, comes from the greeting all employees are supposed to give every single customer as they walk in. "Hi, welcome to Hastings", or something along those lines. Every time I go to work, something happens. For one thing, the computers (or rather, registers) are old. So, they don't always work well. This is awesome, especially when it freezes when you're ringing some one up. Or when it goes to the main menu when you're trying to give the total. Or when the CHECK SCANNERS WON'T WORK. Or when foreign people come in asking about things and you try to direct them as best you can... even though they speak in broken English. Or like today, when someone calls asking about a book based on the cover. This store is a 1/3 bookstore. Do you know how many books we have? At least she knew the category... -Tales
