  1. I was just wondering: How much does it cost to maintain the site-domain name, server, and all? I know that this could probably go to a pm with Dio, but I thought it would be a good thread in case anyone else was interested in knowing, too.
  2. WARNING! THE FOLLOWING CONTENT IS VERY PICTURE HEAVY. THOSE ON MOBILE OR WITH A SLOW CONNECTION/COMPUTER STAY AWAY! So here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for, the big show, the main event, THE BUILD LOG! Let's start from the top: The gang's all here! What good is a bunch of computer parts if you have no case to put them in? The chassis is a Corsair C70 Vengeance in matte black. It's a mid-tower ATX case with a good feature set and an awesome aesthetic. It's kind of reminiscent of an ammo box or a military radio of some sort. I figured it was appropriate since I play mostly FPS games Interior of the case with DVD drive already installed. There were originally fans mounted to the drive cages, but I moved them forward into the front grille area of the chassis to improve GPU clearance and because I was going to pull one of the drive cages anyway. Pulled the top HDD cage to improve airflow. Laying out components and tools for next set of installs. Corsair H100i 240mm radiator with dual 120mm fans. I decided to install the H100i first because it required me to screw it into the chassis. I figured it would be easier to bolt it in first and then mount the pump block rather than mounting the pump block to the CPU+motherboard and then attempting to maneuver the most awkward set of nunchucks ever. AX860i installed and H100i temporarily routed to the back so I can handle other things. Are you ready to manage some cables? I am! Preliminary cable management. I've selected the necessary cables and routed them through the closest grommets. In hindsight I probably should have plugged in the cables first before routing them, but it worked out just as well. Maximus VII Hero. I would have gone with the Formula, but the Z97 version won't be releasing for a while longer and it would be $100 more. Performance-wise, the Hero is almost as good; but I still find I'm a sucker for that thermal armor. 4790K installed. I always get nervous when plugging in CPUs because it feels like I'm going to break them when latching the CPU lock. Motherboard installed and cables sort of routed. Still need to install the pump block and connect all appropriate headers. H100i pump block installed. What you didn't see was me messing up the installation because I thought I'd forgotten to remove a plastic cover that ended up not being there in the first place. Thankfully, I remembered to pick up an extra tube of thermal paste. Reseating was inconvenient, but in the end inconsequential. ATX power cables connected and GPU PCIE cables routed through the proper grommets. RAM DIMMs installed in dual-channel mode. Fan cables and front panel headers connected to motherboard. One thing I found pretty cool was that the Hero has all PWM fan headers. Only my radiator fans are PWM right now, but that might change in the future. (I've since added two more DIMMs, bringing my RAM total to 16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 @ 2133MHz - XMP is a beautiful thing) ARE YOU READY TO TEAR THE FACE OFF EVERY GAME EVER? GTX 780 IS! Bonus picture of girlfriend. GPU and wireless-AC card installed. Because of the layout of my house, I have to use wifi. I figured that since we have a wireless-AC router, I may as well go all out. Cable routing has been optimized a bit and SATA power and data cables have been routed to the drive cages in preparation for drive installation (at that point, I hadn't yanked my drives from my old rig yet). I am currently running a Samsung 840 EVO 256GB SSD and a WD Black 2TB mass storage drive. The complete package ready for a test drive! First boot! It's so beautiful... Now for some bling! Asus ROG front panel installed. It provides a fan controller hub and color LCD display for CPU clock speed, fan RPMs, and temps. It also looks super cool. Kind of reminds me of a military radio of some sort. Anyway, that's my new computer! Hope you guys enjoyed!
  3. Lightning Dust never usually flew low. It was tacky and plain lame when your maneuvering was ruined whenever somepony was careless enough not to hear or see the shadow across the ground heading in their direction. Not to mention, she couldn't dive at all. Lightning Dust loved dives. While having a pegas-eye view of things from where she was, it couldn't be exactly said that she was flying low, but rather, low for her. There was a certain comfort zone Dust had found in higher altitudes because of all she was allowed to do within them. But cruising over the many towers and battlements of Trottingham was low to her. Simply because she could see everypony--and they could see her right back. Public attention wasn't really her thing...currently...sorta. Not that she cared at all because who cares right? Nopony needed to give two flying feathers about what she did or didn't succeed in. Even if part of it was managing to piss of Spitfire and get kicked out of the academy. Or all of it really. And now this suspension put her on edge. It didn't sit well with Lightning Dust, the way her disgrace was being dangled over dream like a guillotine ready to drop. 'Remedial courses.' Or some other stupidness. Dust was called up to meet somepony somewhere where they were to teach her how to get her act together, among other things. The turquoise pegasus continued to keep an eye out for the teacher, Storm Medley. A darker pelted pegasus mare with a cumulus cloud cutie mark. Simple as pie. And then the air began to shift, and Lightning Dust could smell the precipitation coming on. "...motherfeathers." she mumbled, speeding up and around the large clock tower, almost clipping a wing. ''Get her name, but no friggin' directions. How much more dumb could this possibly get.''
  4. GhostGirl

    Meadowhawk

    From the album: Pixels

I needed a warmup before jumping headfirst into commissions, so I asked Dio for a suggestion. He linked me to a reference for Meadowhawk and about 30 minutes later here we are. The hardest part was definitely her cutie mark, but Dio and I both seem to agree that I did a pretty darn good job of translating it to the pixel art medium. -- Ghostie

  5. Captain Fletcher Marksmanship isn't about killing. It's about consistency. It's about being able to hit the target every time no matter the conditions. What's it matter that you've struck once if you can never repeat the shot? Name: Captain “Akula” Fletcher Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Unicorn RP Type: Main RP Coat colour: Ultramarine blue. Bone white blaze. Bone fetlocks. Mane/Tail colour & Style: Bone white tail and mane, both trimmed, but not buzzed short as is typical of REA regulars. Single streak of ultramarine blue in his tail. Tail is tied back during combat and competitions. Eye colour: Violet with red flecks. Cutie Mark: Three upward-pointing arrowheads in bone white. The same shot, the same place—every time. Physique: On the shorter side. Physique is hardened and compact from REA conditioning, but not overly bulky as would be typical of a combat infantryman. Origin: Fillydelphia. Assignments have taken him to The Borderlands, Stalliongrad, Beakbreak City, and Canterlot. Occupation: Sharpshooter, commanding officer of Alpha Squadron, V Order of Her Majesty’s Honor Guard. Motivation: Lead his unit well. Rebuild Alpha team to its former glory. Avoid getting sucked into the twisted webs that REIN and the intelligence community weave. Uncovering the truth about the Aquellian operation that destroyed Alpha. Finding his ex-wife. Likes: Tending to his bonsai trees, tea, logic puzzles, quiet, personal time, the perfect shot, archery, darts, billiards, any other activities that require precision and control, acquiring knowledge, gin drinks, moving up in the world, classical music Dislikes: Going into an operation blind, loud music while he’s trying to do research, Griffon liquor, intellectual stagnation, ennui, bringing up his ex-wife, willful ignorance Service Record Civilian Life Alpha Company, 4th Battalion (“Sunfire”) Bravo Squadron, I Order, Her Majesty’s Honor Guard Alpha Squadron, V Order, Her Majesty’s Honor Guard Character Profile Fletcher is very precise in both his decision-making and his marksmanship and is an incorrigible perfectionist. He is astutely observant of his surroundings and perpetually in search of new information on all subjects. He is a voracious reader and cannot seem to assimilate information fast enough to satisfy himself. Since he is not currently on combat deployment, he spends his off-time in the Canterlot library, acquiring ideas for new spells or methods for improving the efficacy of his current spells. The nature of Fletcher’s demeanor depends on who is being asked. The enlisted men fear his watchful eye, as little goofing off occurs when “Akula” is on the prowl. The officer corps respects his accomplishments greatly and defers both to his intelligence and combat experience. Civilians once enjoyed his sharp wit and fiery ambition, but Fletcher has since mellowed out, measuring his statements carefully and ensuring he gets the results he’s looking for. In spite of his quiet professionalism, Fletcher is quite amicable when greeted and is perfectly willing to swap stories at the bar with other ponies in the military or intelligence communities. Since his reassignment to V Order, Caesura has yet to contact him. Fletcher does his best to keep himself occupied with REIN intel analyses and V Order administrative duties, but he cannot help but make occasional attempts to locate her. This desire for information also carries over to Alpha Squadron’s final mission. Though he is currently Squadron leader, Alpha team’s mission is still classified for Fletcher, leading him to suspect that there is more than meets the eye to his latest reassignment. Even when off-duty, Fletcher sticks to a tight regimen of exercise and marksmanship training to maintain both his conditioning level and shooting skills. He reads whatever material he can get his hands on that catches his interest, ranging from mathematical treatises to military history and politics. Fletcher’s apartment in Canterlot is home to several bonsai trees, carefully crafted over years of service.   Spellbook Combat Spells Aetheric bow. Fletcher’s go-to spell for long-range shooting. As the bow is composed entirely of aether and formed when needed, it requires no cleaning, restringing, or stowing/drawing, and can be as powerful or as precise as Fletcher needs it to be. Fletcher’s primary marksman spell. Kinetic Bolt. Alternative combat spell that fires a small packet of charged aether that detonates on contact, generating a bright flash and powerful shockwave. Power level can be regulated to cause less-lethal effects such as temporary blindness or disorientation. Kinetic bolts follow a ballistic trajectory. Fletcher can fire multiple bolts at a time, though doing so is greatly taxing on his concentration. Fletcher’s preferred means of dealing with close targets. Utility Spells First Aid. Patches minor wounds, stops bleeding, and disinfects cuts and scratches, but emergencies like burns, blood loss, and broken bones or severed limbs still require more expert medical attention. Blink. Teleport approximately 10 yards. Longer teleport jumps are possible, but longer distances exponentially decrease accuracy and increase risk of injury. Darksight. Utility spell that artificially amplifies incoming light to Fletcher's eyes, allowing him to operate in low-light conditions. The spell is useless in total darkness. The spell automatically dispells when ambient light levels become too bright. Telekinesis. Cantrip. Unicorn “mage hand” for fine manipulation of small objects. Light. Cantrip. Unicorn utility spell for illumination. Skills Estimation and Evalution. After years of experience training in marksmanship and pathfinding, Fletcher is excellent at estimating range and gauging ambient conditions and associating those conditions with effects on the flight of his arrows or bolts. Command. Fletcher has substantial leadership experience with both Special Forces and REA regulars. Marksmanship. Fletcher is nonpareil in terms of marksmanship. His precision is legendary, especially among the Stalliongrad Guard. Though his primary means of shooting is the aetheric bow spell, he can still wield a physical longbow or shortbow just as well.
  6. Sir Virtue Librum and Council be damned. I have pledged my allegiance to Celestia Invictus and that pledge still stands whether I fight alone or with my Brother Cavaliers! Name: Sir Virtue, former knight of the Holy Order of the Destriers Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Pegasus Coat Color: Bone white (#F6EDC6) coat with rust-colored (#AC2B0C) fetlocks. Rust-colored blaze. Rust-colored stripes occur in tight triplet bands just below his shoulders on his upper front legs. Pinion feathers are also rust. Mane/Tail Color & Style: Rust-colored mane with alternating stripes of bone white. Mane is kept trimmed very short. Tail is solid rust color and allowed to grow longer. Eye Color: Green. Cutie Mark: The scales of justice balanced on the point of a sword-- a reminder that even in a world of peace and balance, a knight must remain ready to defend his values with sharpness of wit, strength of resolve, and if necessary, force of arms. Physique: Tall and lean, the product of martial training with the Destriers as a knight of the order. Origin: Grew up in Solstice Heights. Was assigned to various locations across Greater Equestria. Currently traveling. Occupation: Former Knight of the Holy Order of the Destriers. Traveling swordsman on a journey of self-rediscovery. Works odd jobs here and there for personal upkeep. Motivation: Continue to serve the Princess and the Destriers, bringing positive change to the order. Reclaim his honor in the eyes of his Brother Cavaliers. Virtue is not naturally petty, though he does hold some degree of resentment to the Council for ousting him as they did. Thus revenge is always in the back of his mind, though he does his best to purge it from his thoughts. Likes: Hoofington Pale Ale, mead, proper swordplay, ponies with heart, good flying weather, ice cream, tea, fireflies, pineapple Dislikes: Dogmatic ponies, bullies, injustice, sloppy work, being made a fool of, defeatism and quitters, excessive debauchery, cockroaches Character History Virtue is the latest in a long line of nobles to have served in the Holy Order of the Destriers. His family is well known for being devout followers of the Librum Dextrarius, with several elders serving on the High Council. The younger members of the family were expected to take up the mantle of Knight of the Order, becoming Brother Cavaliers in service to the order and the Princess. Like his biological brothers, Virtue had little idle time, training with the other colts in the art of sword when he was not religiously studying the text of the Librum Dextrarius. Virtue was soon found to be dexterous of hoof and strong of heart. His martial skills and his determination to succeed catapulted him to the top of his class in both martial and academic studies. Eventually, he earned the right to call himself Brother Cavalier and joined the ranks of the Knights of the Order. At first, Virtue could not have been happier. His entire life had been preparation for his promotion. However, as he continued to observe and learn, he found the Council and his superiors to be dogmatic, prudish, and unwilling to change in the face of overwhelming societal forces. The Order was stagnating. Virtue's pleas for reform were met with vehement opposition and dogged immobilism. The Order realized that Virtue was falling out of line and issued reprimands for his perceived insubordination, deploying him and his unit on long deployments in out of the way locations. On one of these deployments, an accident during a routine training drill resulted in the death of one of his subordinates, which was enough to allow the council to strip him of his Cavalier title. Disillusioned with his former dream job, Virtue packed his saddlebags and left, leaving behind his family and the Order he once loved. He refused to relinquish his sword Aequitas, much to the chagrin of the Council. The only place where Virtue's particular skill set would be useful would be the military, but as they blacklist members of the Destriers, Virtue was immediately rejected as an officer candidate. Frustrated with his inability to integrate with both his former fraternity and society proper, Virtue wanders Equestria, living off the land and doing odd jobs for bits while searching for his place in a world that seems to have left him behind. Character Summary Virtue is a pony in flux. As he has not been out of the service of the Destriers for long, he still retains his knowledge of the Librum Dextrarius, its four pillars, and a dogged determination to see justice be done to those who would do evil. At the same time, he is disillusioned with the highly dogmatic teachings and rigid training regimens that Destrier recruits undergo. Thus, he is torn between the purity of the values taught by the Librum and the desire for revenge against the Council's perceived betrayal. A large part of Virtue's personal conflict is attempting to reconcile his own ingrained training and sense of justice with his belief that progress is to be embraced and not resisted. Virtue is not a pony who shows kindness openly. Partly because of his natural countenance and partly because of his falling out with the Destriers, Virtue comes off as a very grim and uncompromising pony. However, he will never hesitate to step in when somepony's life is in danger. Virtue realizes that he comes off as intimidating at times and does his best to improve both his own attitude and circumstances. While he is not naturally bubbly, he is highly determined and very stubborn, though he is reluctant to commit to most things unless he has a solid reason to do so. Gear Aequitas (Destrier Long Sword): Just as much a work of art as it is a weapon, Virtue's sword is crafted and balanced specifically for him. Capable of being used either braced against his hoof as a puncturing weapon or wielded in the mouth as a slashing weapon, Aequitas is both versatile and deadly. Magical runes scribed along the flat of the blade keep Aequitas' edge sharp even in the most challenging of conditions and proudly proclaim the sword's purpose of bringing justice to those who would do evil. Bracers: Layered canvas bracers with steel reinforcements and latches, Virtue's bracers allow him to quickly fix Aequitas to a hoof or transfer it back to his mouth to rapidly change his fighting style and direction of attack or defense. Saddlebags: Containing little more than basic trail rations, a copy of the Librum Dextrarius, a journal and pen, and a utility knife, Virtue's saddlebags hold all he was able salvage from his former life before his unceremonious expulsion from the Destriers. Skill Set Swordsmanship: Destriers are well-known for their artful use of swords and Virtue is no exception. Command: As a former chapter leader and Brother Captain, Virtue has a firm grasp of tactics and how to motivate his charges. Wilderness Survival: His assignments to faraway lands and his journey on the road has taught Virtue hard lessons about living off the land and improvising solutions to problems that occur where help is not easy to come by. Many thanks to ChelseaGold for the picture!
  7. Linked Dio's profile to that of his father Captain Aristotle and added a note about his parents.
  8. White Feather You want the best in Equestria? You'll have to catch him first! Name: White Feather, "The Wind Walker" Sex: Male Age: Young stallion Species: Earth pony RP Color: #00BFFF Pelt Color: Ice blue, white fetlocks. Has a navy blue ring around his front left leg just below the knee. The leg and fetlock below the ring are completely white. Mane/Tail Color & Style: Navy blue mane, with a single white streak in his forelock. Tail is also navy, trimmed to keep it from dragging or catching. Eye Color: Green Cutie Mark: White eagle feather with red tip on the feathered end. Represents his light step and his unnatural grace, almost that of a flier. Physique: Short, about the height of the main cast, though he is male. Toned musculature from athletics training, but not bulky. Lithe and agile build. His movements have a sort of unnatural grace to them, more akin to a feline than an equine. Origin: Streets of Manehattan. Currently on the run from Aquellian law enforcement. Occupation: “Retrieval specialist.” Or as local police like to call it, a thief. Usually he works alone, as his unorthodox methods of breaking and entering preclude the use of a team. However that does not mean his is unwilling to cooperate. During more complex jobs, White Feather often works with others to make scores he wouldn’t otherwise be able to accomplish alone. Motivation: White Feather doesn’t steal for the money; he enjoys testing his skills against the best that Equestria has to offer, though cash isn’t a bad deal, either. Likes: Carousing, drinking, making an epic getaway, gambling, free running, contests of speed and agility, adventure, the thrill of a big score, humiliating his enemies, talking (he likes running his mouth), spicy foods Dislikes: Losing, hurting anypony unnecessarily, being injured or rendered unable to run, being caught, being trapped, being outmaneuvered or outsmarted, snakes Personality Having acquired his skill set on the mean streets of Manehattan by himself and thrived in spite of inauspicious circumstances, White Feather is overconfident almost to a fault. If there's a job that requires his skill set that looks dangerous-- or perhaps even fun-- White Feather wants it. As much as he loves seeing the bits drop, he gets his rush from running, jumping, climbing, and flipping; the sheer visceral joy of overcoming physical challenges. White Feather's level of energy is infectious; you'd think he's actually a pegasus that hides his wings very well. He loves to talk and seems to have an anecdote for every situation in spite of his youth. While he does make an occasional pass at a pretty mare, he doesn't go out of his way to find or keep fillyfriends, insisting that they'll just slow him down. He prefers the company of his current crew at taverns, though he's not above settling at the bar with a few chums he just met. White Feather is actually a very amicable stallion in spite of his past and his current profession. He's easy to approach and never lacks anything to talk about. Though many who have met him think him to be shallow and flighty, he can be calmed down by someone who takes sufficient time to befriend him and peel back the layers that he's built over the years to keep him alive and well. Character History The quintessential adrenaline junkie, White Feather tests his skills against the best that Equestria has to offer. White Feather is not the typical cutpurse or pickpocket; rather he is a highly trained professional thief that normally hits well-protected houses, companies, or vaults. He has worked for mercenaries, corporate heads, and even sky pirates. His high-flying aerialist talents and free running skills have often resulted in him being confused for a pegasus, earning him the nickname "The Wind Walker." After growing up in an orphanage, White Feather made a name for himself as a street urchin, using his experience as a stepping stone for his later high-flying aerialist heists. He jumped around from misfit gang to misfit gang, offering his unique talents in exchange for places to stay the night. One day, he was recruited by an old stallion to break into a bank and recover something very valuable to him. The job was the hardest one he'd ever undertaken in his life; the security was tight and the vault was nigh unbreakable, but with careful movement and a few close calls, White Feather and the old stallion's team were able to get into the vault and get what they needed. Unfortunately, the operation turned out to be a double cross. Knowing that White Feather was simply a street urchin that was expendable, the old stallion attempted to kill him to cover his tracks. Fortunately, White Feather was much lighter on his feet than the old stallion expected, allowing him to make good on his escape and in the process earn his cutie mark. His first brush with what seemed like certain death has given him a healthy fear of harming anypony, even if they stand directly in his way. White Feather knows all kinds of tricks and traps to incapacitate and trip up enemies, but he refuses to kill on principle. To date, no pony has ever been killed or suffered more than a minor injury during any of the operations that The Wind Walker has participated in. White Feather has since graduated to bigger jobs, developing a network of contacts across Equestria that he visits to find potential jobs and other like-minded individuals to train and work with. Skill Summary Acrobatics. White Feather is skilled in parkour, utilizing his superior athletic conditioning and superb flexibility and balance to traverse terrain that even fliers would be hesitant to navigate. Further augmenting his abilities is White Feather’s absurdly high risk threshold and his knowledge of the limits of his own body and just how far he can push himself. Athletics. He runs. A lot. He can keep running for much longer than most ponies are willing to chase him. Stealth. After years of being on the run, White Feather knows how to evade pursuit and disappear into crowds and in all types of terrain. Without magic, he relies on misdirection and fast talking to throw off a tail. Melee Combat. While not a fighter by trade, White Feather can hold his own against the average soldier or thug by using his superior mobility and balance to trip up his opponents. White Feather never uses lethal force if it can be avoided, preferring to embarrass those he thinks can catch him than injuring or killing them. Sleight of Hoof. A simple extension of misdirection and fast talking, White Feather can pick pockets, snatch important items, and slip away before he’s caught. Smell. White Feather has an exceptional sense of smell, particularly enjoying the smells of spicy foods like curry. Equipment Saddlebags. Specially made from synthetic materials from the Griffon lands, these bags are tough and lightweight, hugging his body for maximum mobility even when loaded. Grappling Hook/Line. As good as he is, White Feather can’t fly, so sometimes he needs a little help. Headwrap and tunic. Dark navy blue like his mane, these lightweight garments protect against abrasion and fire and aid in concealment in the dark.
  9. Argent Rook I am a tower. Undaunted. Unwavering. Unbreakable. But the tower does not stand to break others, but to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Name: Argent Rook Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Unicorn Coat Color: Dark grey, almost black. Horn is white. Mane/Tail Color & Style: no mane. Tail is solid white and naturally short. Wears a shemagh around his head when out and about in the day to avoid sunburn and a cloak while traveling to keep warm, as he is quite sensitive to cold. Eye Color: Amber Cutie Mark: Silver rook (the chess piece). Represents his ability to make himself unshakeable as a stone tower and his unwavering commitment to the protection of others. Physique: On the shorter side. Not muscular, but toned. Relies on magic and diplomacy rather than physical prowess to defuse most threats. His lack of mane and his slimmer build give him an almost snake-like profile, especially when his armor spell is activated. Origin: Born in Trottingham. Spent most of his adult life in Aquellia. Recently returned to Greater Equestria. Occupation: Doctor. Former bodyguard. Prefers the former to the latter. Motivation: Become a better doctor. Pay his dues for the death of a friend. Likes: Reading, magic, medical science, coffee, muffins, strategy games (chess, etc.), hot weather. Dislikes: Being outsmarted, celery, alcohol, centipedes, cold weather, seeing his friends hurt. Talents Arcanometabolism: Strong. His days serving the Razorclaw family saw him experimenting with Arcanometabolism, altering his own body to avoid harm and do his job as a security guard. His signature move is armoring his entire body with magically grown adamantine scales, allowing him to shrug off hits that would kill a lesser pony and sweep intruders off their feet with his increased body mass. Though he used to be able to use the ability at will, recent side effects include insomnia and migraines which increase in intensity the longer he uses the ability without substantial rest. Rook suspects this to be linked to pushing himself past the metabolic "redline" during the Razorclaw incident. Healing Magic: Strong. Can administer first aid to staunch bleeding, stitch cuts and lacerations together, or clean wounds via magic. Can set broken bones and speed healing, but cannot repair them outright. Magic substitutes for medical imaging instruments as a diagnosis tool. His healing magic is an outgrowth of his original Arcanometabolism ability. Instead of using it to fight by casting the spells on himself, he uses it to heal others. Character Summary Originally hailing from Trottingham, Argent Rook has a birth defect that leaves him without a mane. His tail is naturally short, as is his pelt hair. As a result, he takes to hot weather just fine, but absolutely abhors the cold. With no mane, he normally covers his head with a shemagh to keep the sun off. Rook left Trottingham as a young stallion in search of adventure, testing his wits and his magical might against the best that Equestria had to offer. Eventually, he found himself in the Griffon lands. While the griffon racism precluded him from finding steady work, everywhere he was able to show up his feathered counterparts with his skills earned him fear and respect. This all came to a head when he rescued a member of the Razorclaw family from a mob hit in a bazaar outside Talonopolis. The griffon returned the favor by finding Rook a job as a security guard, serving the Razorclaw family’s holdings on the outskirts of Talonopolis. Despite their disdain for pony-kind, the Razorclaws saw a time and a place for Rook’s unique talents. They gave him significantly more leeway than griffons would ordinarily give ponies, even allowing him to mingle with the family at certain events. He eventually cultivated a friendship with Alana, a daughter of the Razorclaw family. One night, while Rook was patrolling the factory grounds, he detected a break-in and rushed to intercept the infiltrator. He tracked down a lone griffon saboteur and engaged in combat, eventually killing his adversary after an extended battle. When he unmasked the Griffon, it was none other than Alana Razorclaw. The Razorclaw family acknowledged that Alana was a usurper, attempting to discredit the matriarch to seize control of family assets and congratulated Rook on a job well done. Rook, however, was too stricken with grief to care. He quit shortly thereafter and returned to Trottingham. He eked out an existence doing odd jobs there until Dio, an old friend from his Razorclaw days convinced him to come out of his shell once more. Rook studies medicine as penance for what he has done. Any book on healing lore or medicine that he can get his hands on, Rook devours and any chance he gets to practice his healing spells, he takes. Traveling once more, he has turned his fighting magic into healing magic and refuses to physically harm anypony unless circumstances are truly dire. In spite of his pacifistic tendencies, Rook still retains his keen observational skills and love of strategy games such as Chess, Supremacy, and Risk, though certain sports that require precision such as darts and billiards also catch his eye. The Spellbook Combat Spells Boost: Arcanometabolism. Temporarily speeds up metabolism on a cellular level and dispenses stress hormones for a controlled "adrenaline rush." Dramatically increases strength and endurance for a short time. Can be cast on himself or another pony. Dragonscale: Arcanometabolism. Grows adamantine scales all over Rook's body. Hooves and horn are armored with a metallic coating. The scales are resistant to impact, extreme temperatures, and edged weapons, though piercing weapons and blunt trauma still have their effects on the rest of his body. Firewall: Enchantment. A mental firewall of sorts that blocks non-sensory input to his mind. Cuts off telepathy, charm, and other "mind magic" spells. These three spells are used both singly and in combination to provide the right mix of strength, durability, and agility for the situation at hand. Rook possesses unique talents, but cannot make use of certain aspects of unicorn magic like teleportation. His spells channel the power of the aether directly through his body, which, while giving him access to great power, also puts him at grave risk of physical injury from a malfunctioning spell. Rook limits himself to certain power levels in his head to avoid injury, but can push himself beyond those limits in a dire emergency. Medical Spells Triage: Projects a low-powered aetheric field onto the target. Disruptions to the field indicate physical injury. Allows rapid diagnosis of physical injuries. Vital Burst: Speeds up cellular regeneration rate to patch up damaged tissue. Ossify: Manipulates and sets a broken bone to heal properly, though it cannot fully regenerate it. Chelate: Filters out natural toxins in the subject's bloodstream. Less effective against magical toxins. Stitch: Seals a wound in the same way a surgeon's stitch would. Staunch: Locally activates clotting factors to stop bleeding. Scalpel: A blade-like shard of aether that is used to cut through tissue during an operation. Can also be weaponized, but Rook is loathe to do so. Skills Melee combat: Rook is more physical than the average unicorn, a result of years traveling through the Griffon lands and escorting members of the Razorclaw family. He can't teleport and can't use telekinesis in combat, but he can still bash and stab with the best of them. Since the Razorclaw incident, Rook is reluctant to fight, and even when he does prefers nonlethal solutions. Triage: Rook can administer first aid as well as diagnose and treat minor injuries and diseases without the use of magic. Academic Knowledge: Rook is a scholar at heart and is well read in general science, medicine, and griffon politics.
  10. Colonel Aristotle They want strength? We’ll give it to them. Strength of arms, strength of character, and strength of resolve! Name: Colonel Aristotle Ironwing, Alpha Squadron, IV Order, Her Majesty’s Honor Guard (Ret.), aka Dio's dad. Sex: Male Age: Older stallion, late 50s or early 60s by human years. Species: Pegasus RP Color: #804000 Pelt Color: Brown pelt, white fetlocks Mane/Tail Color & Style: Salt and pepper mane and forelock, longer, but trimmed and taken care of. Black tail with streaks of grey beginning to appear with age. Wings are also brown, with white pinion feathers. Eye Color: Brown Cutie Mark: Crossed longsword and maul (hammer) in silhouette, in gold. The hammer symbolizes strength of character and body while the sword symbolizes sharpness of tongue and intellect. Physique: While not in prime athletic condition, Aristotle is fit and healthy for his age. Carries himself like he’s still in the Honor Guard. Origin: Born in Cloudsdale. Currently living in Canterlot. Occasional trips to Cloudsdale and Trottingham to visit old Army friends. Occupation: Officially retired. Remains in Canterlot as a negotiator and advisor on Griffon politics. Formerly commander of Alpha Squadron, IV Order, Her Majesty's Honor Guard. Motivation: A strong family and a strong legacy. Making sure his successors don’t screw up the work he did. Maintaining strength of moral character in spite of temptation otherwise. Likes: Swapping stories about his military days, a good debate, Rockwington Scotch, Hoofington Pale Ale, chai, watching Wonderbolt aerobatics performances, thunderstorms, good company, Portobello mushrooms Dislikes: Military-bashing ponies, poor-quality alcohol, bureaucratic red tape, cherries, sky pirates, obstinate parties in negotiation, cowards Character History If there ever was a stallion’s stallion, it would be Aristotle Ironwing. One look at him will tell you exactly which side of the family Diomedes’ size comes from. The big Pegasus is the veteran of years of service in the Royal Equestrian Army as an Honor Guard commander. In his day, Aristotle reported directly to Princess Celestia, serving as her envoy to the Griffon lands. In the early days of Griffon-Pony political relations, the Griffons respected might and charisma over concession and diplomacy, necessitating the use of a military unit to represent Equestria diplomatically. Despite his rough outward appearances, Aristotle is neither a cold-blooded killer nor a brawny jingoist. He is highly intelligent and team-oriented, as well as a family stallion, making him one of the most capable, professional, and motivated commanders the Honor Guard has ever had. Still, time has caught up with Aristotle and he is not as strong or as quick as he used to be. He is currently retired and living in Canterlot on government pension. However, since Aristotle is still an expert negotiator and subject matter expert on Griffon politics, he is regularly called in to advise the current bureaucrats and the princesses. Aristotle is still a proud pegasus. He sometimes forgets that he has limits both in physical strength and authority. He runs and flies every day to keep himself fit, but does not know when to quit at times. He lives alone and refuses to hire help. Aristotle is not a fan of the new breed of Equestrian military bureaucrats, seeing them more as scheming, short-sighted cowards than intelligent strategists. In spite of the "changing of the guard," Aristotle still holds deep respect for the Princesses, even Luna, as he knows they hold more knowledge in their millenia of existence than he'll probably have by the end of his lifetime. Aristotle’s late wife Nausicaa Cloudrunner was a Wonderbolt (Generation 2). Nausicaa was famous for her elegant choreography and technical virtuosity. However, she was killed in a tragic training accident when Diomedes was still very young. Aristotle raised his son alone, enrolling him at Cloudsdale Academy when he was of age. Even with his busy career, he made every effort to visit his son when possible, forging a strong relationship with his only child. Even after the incidents at Academy, Aristotle reinforced the need for Diomedes to stand up for himself and find his own place in the world, regardless of how long it took or how many obstacles stood in the way. When Diomedes failed to qualify for the weather team, Aristotle did his best to help his son out, using his connections to help Diomedes find a job with Pony Mail. Even though he no longer lives with his father, Diomedes still writes home to Canterlot regularly. Aristotle sees the letters as one of the little joys in his life.
