  1. The Six Imperial Dynasties - The History of the Dragon Throne Long Guo is no stranger to the impermanent nature of keeping power. In the 2,000 years since the downfall of Tyrant King Faba, no less than 5 dynasties have risen and fallen in the Dragon Kingdom. As of this publication, Long Guo is on its 6th imperial dynasty. Below is a brief chronicle summarizing the historical accomplishments and failures of each of the great lineages. TIAN DYNASTY - As the brave couple that liberated and unified of the Long Sun, Empress Xi Hua and Emperor Xiao Huo were hailed as heroes of nigh-divine stature. During their reign which lasted more than 50 years, the capital city of Huangjing was built, local nobility was permanently supplanted by bureaucrats chosen by merit, and the rifts between the Qilin and Longma began to mend. But all was not well; a good number of nobles and chieftains fled across the sea to Ryushima Island, while the sons and daughters of the First Sovereigns struggled to measure up to the insurmountable legacy of their parents. When Hua and Huo's time came to an end, no heir had clearly emerged as the most worthy, and thus the imperial family descended into bickering and factionalism. Worried that the flames of familial strife would engulf Long Guo in war, a longma general deserted his post and undertook the harrowing pilgrimage to the summit of Mount Suncrest. Upon reaching Longri-La, he pleaded to the Serpent Council to grant him the Mandate to Rule instead, and that in return his descendants would be offered up for fosterage by the Long. After long and contentious debate, the Serpent Council agreed to the General's request. The Long intervened and persuaded each of Hua and Huo's offspring to give up their claim to the Dragon Throne, and thus the First Dynasty ended in a whimper. LONG DYNASTY - At nearly 800 years, the Long Dynasty was the Dragon Kingdom's longest-lived ruling family. Most of the traditions and customs of the Imperial Court were created during this era to ensure that a reigning emperor would always be held in awe by his subjects if he ruled competently. The Long Dynasty also withstood the barbarism of the eastern Taotie Hordes and the treachery of the Ryushima ninja clans, namely by erecting the Serpent's Wall to guard the eastern border and enlarging the Imperial Watch to the greatest size ever reached in its history. Eventually, the unruly northwestern region of Manechuria was brought into the fold by peaceful means. Over the centuries however, the emperors of the Long Dynasty grew more rigid and entitled in their line. So concerned they were with maintaining their otherworldly grandeur that they started to view the Wise and Noble Long as rivals for their subjects' adoration. A subsequent banning of all contact between Long Sun and Dragons proved to be the dynasty's downfall when a series of massive droughts struck the Dragon Kingdom. Forbidden by imperial decree to ask the Long to bring forth rain, the desperate populace resorted to a mass uprising which successfully brought the dynasty to an end. YE DYNASTY - Descended from the humble qilin farmer who lead the rebellion toppling the Long Dynasty, the emperors of the Ye Dynasty saw themselves as nurturers of their realm first and foremost. While keeping many of the courtly rites established by their predecessors, the Ye rulers saw more value in providing peace and plenty than battle and glory. Long Guo eschewed war during these days, and its economy and culture flourished for the next 500 years. Such affluence gave birth to envy in the hearts of the Dragon Kingdom's neighbors. Some — like the Taotie Hordes and the Viking Caribou — raided and pillaged whenever they easily could. Other nations like the newly unified Neighpon, itself recovering from a costly victory against the Caribou armies, turned to distant islands for new resources instead of risking subservience to Long Guo's interests. In the end though, all it took was one excessively greedy and incompetent monarch to cause the Ye Dynasty's collapse. Exploiting this unrest, a powerful court sorceress orchestrated a coup and installed herself as Empress. TI DYNASTY - The usurper sorceress who founded the Ti Dynasty desired a return to a more spiritual age where the Long Sun harmoniously lived side-by-side with spirit creatures. While that path ended up mostly causing conflict between equines and spirits, the Spirit Empress at least cared enough for the well-being of her realm to ensure that skilled bureaucrats were doing their job. Her successors on the other hand had no desire to govern, instead dwelling on continuing fruitless studies into the Spirit World. With Long Guo paralyzed by apathetic rulers, it was no surprise that a hundred years later, the Taotie Hordes finally breached the Serpent's Wall en masse and conquered vast swaths of land nearly unchallenged. The last Ti emperor was kidnapped by the Taotie and never seen again, leaving behind no heirs. But all was not lost. Long Guo rallied under the leadership of the Stewardess of Manechuria, a fierce pony warrior famed for defeating the Taotie Shanyu in single combat and sending the Hordes back to the eastern wastelands from whence they came. GANG DYNASTY - The next 450 years were a time of great change in Long Guo. Advances in oceanic travel was making distant corners of the world more accessible, and the Manechu emperors who now sat on the Dragon Throne were eager to capitalize by looking westward. Yet after a protracted naval war with Neighpon which ended in stalemate, the Gang emperors realized their aims were better achieved through non-violent means. It was under the Gang Dynasty that Long Guo first established connections with Equestrian civilization and saw the rise of Long Kong as a world metropolis. As the forces of industrialization entrenched themselves in the Dragon Kingdom, the Gang emperors founded a new capital to the southwest: the Steel City of Gangshi. Nicknamed the "Stalliongrad of the East", Gangshi was infamous for the wanton pollution its factories produced. After a half-century of filling the southwestern coastal waters with toxic runoff, the Long of the Oceans banded together to bring a cataclysmic typhoon upon Gangshi. The entire city was claimed by floods, putting its foul factories permanently out of commission and sending the last Gang emperor running back to Manechuria in disgrace. FENG DYNASTY - It was left to the previous Chancellor — his family being the last recognized descendants of Hua and Huo's bloodline — to relocate the capital back to Huangjing and assume the burden of rule. For the last century, the Feng Dynasty have served as guardians of the status quo; maintaining the Dragon Kingdom cultural identity while remaining competitive with the rest of the world. Only time will tell if this dynasty rises to magnificence like their legendary ancestors, or fall into infamy. ~A Reign of Ten Thousand Years Dr. Tong Ze
  2. The forest in the east was not always united under the major clan that it is now. In the past the forest was home to a multitude of warring clans. Raids, wars, stories of battles that are still sung today were what made up the lives of the forest dwelling clans. Origins of the smaller clans and tribes that settled in the dimensionally confusing forest of frosted ash are difficult to find. Theories are numerous and difficult to prove, the members of the modern clan believing they are descendants of an ancient breed of elk that migrated to the north after pony settlements arrived in the land that would one day be called Equestria. Wherever they hailed from, in the past these ancient tribes made their homes in multiple settlements across the forest. As any Skald will tell you, caribou will find reason to fight. In a place like the forest those reasons were mostly out of pragmatism. In the woods coming by certain resources was very difficult. As per usual for many clans raiding was a solution. A war had been raging in the trees of forest, one with little steel for blades and a great deal of time to learn efficient ways of fighting one another without steel or iron. Eventually though there came a time when the fighting needed to stop. Clan Stokkr: a clan of woodworkers, after the dethroning of it's old chieftain had offered to have a meeting between of the heads of the warring forest clans. This meeting was lead by Heigi who had come into possession of a powerful sword. After pointing out the various losses they had suffered and how together they could be stronger than any of the clans outside the forest... the heads of the smaller clans agreed to merge their clans as one over the ages. Upon deciding what to call themselves, one of the chiefs suggested why not after the very trees that they took shelter in: the Aska tree. Over time, the Askr Clan came into being. While this clan is definitely looking to the future ahead, it has not forgotten its roots. Events of the past have shaped this clan into the fearsome forest dwellers that they are and have made them both enemies and admirers throughout Whitescar's history. Like all caribou clans, Calves are taught to fight at a very young age. At first they are taught a variant of the martial art native to Whitescar: Glima. But after their calfhood is over and experiences are taught they are taught another way of fighting that the clan called Rodhovar: A rather brutal style of fighting that could only have been born from a culture so deeply wrought in conflict. The style of fighting is used exclusively for war and focuses heavily on attacking vulnerable areas on the body: Knees, hooves, Sides, hind legs and very often the head.It also teaches grappling, disarmament and use of terrain to fight. It's not uncommon among the caribou to see every cow, bull, and calf willing to take up a weapon in defense of their homes. In the Askr hold it is almost unthinkable to not be without an axe at your side if you’re an adult or a wooden sword if you're a calf. Due to the region's previously mentioned lack of easily locatable ore on the surface, Raiding parties and expeditions into Cave troll dwellings are often performed in order to retrieve ore for the crafting of armor, weapons, and other things, alongside raids of clans outside the forest. Like some other more 'civilized' clans in Whitescar, Askr is one where most every member has been a viking at some point in their lives. For some it was to prove their mettle as a warrior, explorer, or a merchant: As these are all things that are attributed to the clan's definition of “Viking”. Unlike some outsider believe though, being a viking is something the majority of this clan does for the entirety of their lives. Many of the older caribou along with the younger who have made a name for themselves have actually gone on to become farmers, woodworkers, skalds, or merchants. Social classes still exist in Askr as it does in most other clans. Karls are the commoner class of caribou. Smiths, merchants, explorers, warriors: a karl could be any of them. Above the karls, are the jarls: Clan Nobility. Jarls are wealthy, owner larger areas of land and territory then Karls do. Typically better equipped to handle conflicts and owning their own ships, but the most important part to becoming a jarl in any clan is the confidence and good graces of the caribou beneath him. If the popular opinion of any jarl crumbles, soon everything they own is sure to follow. When a jarl perishes it is usual that their oldest kin would inherit their estate, however if a karl has gained a great following in the community then they very well could supplant the jarl's son and inheriting their estate and responsibilities. The third and final social rank is the singular position of the Chieftain. The seat of Chieftain is a position of great importance to any clan, among large and powerful clans such ask Askr they are almost comparable to kings or queens in their own right if there is no High-King above them. Much like jarls, A chieftain is subject to the will of their clan: Usually worries and ills are relayed to them through the Jarls beneath the chieftain due to the difficulty managing the various settlements in the forests. Perhaps to facilitate bonds and a sense of unity in the clan, Karls and jarls alike will often have their offspring live among friendly clans or fellow members of the forest dwellers. Around middle adolescence a calf is to be shared with another in the clan or a close friend in order to gain new skills and be exposed to different approaches to problems. The effect of this practice seems to have made the clan very connected with each other, for all the good and bad that may bring. Despite the gentler side of caribou that Askr exhibits, certain insults to personal honor will have usually two outcomes: Apology and an agreed compensation, or a duel to either settle the score or decide who is in the right. Historically the clan has more than a few enemies beyond the wild lands they call home. Remnants of reclusive clans who dwell in the forest still attempt to make attacks on the hold every once in awhile, Troll raids and small scale invasions are still common in the more rural areas, and since the recent events of a group of outsiders they have had to deal with a plague that is still being examined. While Askr clansbou are not willing to ever attack their neighbors to the Northeast in Neighpon: they are far from fond of them. Oral Histories told by the skalds state that this could be due to the clan's history with the island nations. In the genesis of the clan's formation some of the clan's closest to the shoreline would make regular raids on neighponese vessels. In retaliation, the Neighponese waged war on the raiding clans, beginning a long series of conflicts with each side taking revenge for the previous attack and vice versa. One weakened nation against a newly formed united clan of the forest. Finally the fighting stopped when both a new chieftain and a young shogun realized that neither said was gaining any ground and both were only losing kin, and so a peace was reached. Even with the peace, it is hard to find a caribou among the Askr who doesn't have a story of how one of their ancestors fought and fell in that affair. Much like the merchant based warrior clan of Breen, the caribou of Askr put a great deal of value on personal appearance. Grooming, bathing, and dressing well is considered very important to both bulls and cows alike, with certain perfumes or colognes added to their coats. Typically all members of the clan own at least one article of clothing or an accessory that is the color green and bears their clan’s symbol. For upper class of Jarls it is common custom to come to peace-talks with enemy clans without cloth or armor to show that they are entirely unarmed in good faith. Seers can be found in any clan, but few are as valued as the ones who reside in Clan Askr. This change can likely be attributed to the skills that the shaman here have branched out into. Normally practitioners of Seidr might be more like hermits out in the wilds trying to meditate in order to peer into the vast tapestry of fate. Seers in Askr are more akin to medical shaman, working to mend the minds and bodies of those who have been wounded or taken ill. While they are not able to wield healing spells like some more magically gifted nations, it seems that they have taken a page from Zebra tribe-like methods of potion mixing. While they still practice Seidr and make their vague prophecies, the more mystical aspect has taken something of a backseat to the practical: To be used in times of emergency. Seers however do tend to be devout believers of the major deities to the clan: Hreinn, Tuktu, and Qalipu. Celebrations are very important to these Caribou, seemingly as a way to keep up morale and promote the sense of togetherness that has bound this clan as one so tightly with no threat of division in sight. Mead Halls are usually filled well and musical accompaniment is always to be expected. Dance lines are common occurrences along with instances of good natured flyting: A series of Insult said in verse along to the beat of the song of the moment. One of the traits among members of the clan that seems to exist in some capacity in everybou born in these forests is and unnaturally good sense of direction and spatial awareness. Historians native to Whitescar believe that this trait may have emerged from them in response to the Forest of Frosted Ash’s unusual dimensional properties. It has made them the perfect guides to any traveler in these woods and it seems difficult for them to lose track of where they are in the forest even if they try. One of the most well known thing about the Askr Clan to the world beyond Whitescar is their production of and mastery of Woodworking and carpentry of trees that share their name. The wood from these trees has the uncanny ability to absorb, dissipate, or outright nullify any magical induced energies: a trait that has confounded even the best minds of Neighpon and Equestria alike. To any Caribou Blacksmith who wishes for the best of anti magic inlays for their armor, they must come to Askr. If a clan wishes for the best designed Flying warship or longboat that can withstand almost any magical attack, they must come to Askr. With the abundance of wood in their region and their experiences with it, growing new trees and crafting them into great exploratory vessels and merchant ships has made the clan quite a living now. The warships of theirs that has ever fallen into rebel hooves are known to be a thorn in the side of any culture that relies heavily on magic, usually proving strong enough to withstand and dissipate magical attacks from some of the best magitech defenses and offenses. With their skill as fighters, craftsmanship, and close bonds among their kin, the Askr clan are a powerful force in Whitescar. Between their regular battles with the Rebel clans to the south-east and their home territories natural harshness, it is no surprise that they proof a fearsome foe to their enemies and a true friend to any ally who has earned their goodwill. 3. When I was just a child, I had a special skill to make friends with almost anyone I met. People enjoyed speaking with me, and getting to know me better, I was like a "friendship magnet". Upon my middle and high school years, I lost this ability. I became shy, nervous, and I easily made bad first impressions, and lost friends as the days went by. Eventually, I found myself alone, not a friend in the world to run to. I was sad, scared, and friendless. This eventually turned the shining personality I had inside out, no longer was I good at making friends, but good at losing them. Girls never really spoke with me, people would laugh and mock me, and the awkward days of the beginning of school only made this worse. Friends reuniting, and I would just stand in a corner simply twiddling my thumbs. Things got so bad, I would skip lunch and go to the library every day just to feel relaxed. When I would get kicked out of the library for going too much, I would just go and sit in the restrooms, it was a miserable time. I fell into a deep depression from all of this. Imagine the complete opposite of how I am now, that's who I was. A smile was the rarest thing to see on my face. As all students, I eventually graduated high school. Not surprising, but I had no friends to celebrate with when walking across that stage to take my diploma. At the end, the hats would fly and as they fell, I was walking across the football field, ready to go home and start the boring adult life I live in now. The internet is just about the only place I can find friends at this point. During one of my daily Yahoo! News checks, I seen something about "Bronies". To this day, the article's topic remains blurred in my mind. Whatever it was, it gained my curiosity enough to do some research on these Bronies. After I found out it was grown men liking My Little Pony, it made me curious as well as disturbed. I wondered what made these people tick? But, I had a past with watching "girly" shows like Powerpuff Girls, so I thought I would give it a shot, just to see what I could find in My Little Pony. I actually resisted watching the show a few times at first, but eventually gave in and fell in love with the Mane 6. First, it was Applejack, the southern sweetheart. Eventually, it went through them all (except Rainbow Dash). Around the time of Equestria Girls, the lack of MLP between the Season 3 finale and the movie was torturing. I actually came an inch close to losing my Brony faith. I never really considered any of who I had picked before to be my literal favorites, but a phase where I would just switch out every few days. I told myself that Equestria Girls was my last shot. If this movie didn't revive my faith in MLP, I would probably lose it for good. By the way, during this time, Twilight Sparkle was my pending favorite, as I wasn't sure if I wanted her to be my favorite yet. After Twilight becoming a princess, it only pushed me closer to discovering my guardian angel waifu. When I seen the movie, there was something about "Helping Twilight Sparkle Win the Crown" that completely woke my faded Brony side. I was filled with all the rainbows and magic my body could hold. After viewing the movie, I felt as a dead battery being completely recharged. I had never been into MLP more than that particular moment. Something inside me changed from seeing that movie, along with Magical Mystery Cure. It was the moment every Brony experiences sooner or later, the real choosing of your favorite pony. While it may not seem as big of a deal as I'm making it, this choice completely changed me inside and out. I've always said that you don't choose your favorite pony, but they choose you. And this was the feeling you get that I was referring to. With this event of Twilight Sparkle becoming such a big part of my life, my personality finally bloomed. I was happy, energetic, eager to make new friends and turn frowns upside down. Sure it sounds nothing short from Pinkie Pie, but it was the friendship inside that made these feelings possible. I could finally make friends again, make people smile, and they were rewards of their own. I've been asked from time to time if I truly believe in magic, which just happened to ironically be Twilight's Element of Harmony, while also meaning Friendship. As to magic being a real thing, I most certainly believe in it. But not from the view of making things levitate and being able to bend the will of reality itself, I truly believe that magic itself is the feeling you get inside when you make a new friend. The happy, giddy feeling you get that can't do anything but make you smile! I couldn't have learned anything about this, the true magic of friendship, without the help of Twilight Sparkle. Because of this wonderful pony, I've discovered who I am on the inside, who I really am. Not set down by the stereotypes my parents have nailed to my forehead, but who my heart wants me to be. Who am I? This is me. A year had passed, and the feeling of my Brony side had once again, begin to feel a fading feeling. I was worried about this, I loved being a Brony, I loved My Little Pony (still do!), I didn't want this magic inside to end. After a long day of stressing over such a thing, I had finally passed out from exhaustion. Something magical happened that night. A dream that had seemed half reality and half imagination, I found myself awake, on my back, in bed, staring down my chest. I seen a small light appear above my stomach. Can you guess whom it was? Twilight Sparkle, of course. At this point, I knew I was dreaming, but I decided to see what would carry out from this "dream" I was experiencing. Once Twily appeared from the center of the light (she was about the size of my fist, maybe doubled), she slowly landed on my chest and folded her wings back. I played along with this dream and asked her what she was doing here. Twilight sat down and looked me in the eyes, and told me she knew what was going on, why I was so worried and stressed. She knew what she had caused, and why I didn't want it to leave. She calmly told me that it was okay to feel this way, these kinds of things happen to everyone, let it flow naturally. Don't force myself to be something I can't have a passion for. I told her how much I didn't want it to end, I remember a tear rolling down my cheek, I loved Twilight, I told her. She told me that she felt the same, and that no matter what happens, she would always be in my heart. There with me through thick and thin, Brony or not, Twilight would always be with me, because she loved me too. I remember as she said so, she began to fly away and fade into the same light she appeared in. I remember the struggle of lifting my arm, due to being asleep and unable to move, by the time by arm was up, I was awake, and Twilight was gone. All this stress had passed, I felt relieved. I layed back down and rolled over, saying "Thank you, Twily", and dosed back off to sleep. At this moment I knew that Twilight was just more than my favorite pony. She was my teacher, my friend, my guardian angel.

  7. Hello, I was looking through the lore section of the RP archives, but beyond a mention of 'Roam' in the Itaily section, I didn't come across anything resembling ancient history. The reason I'm looking is because the character I plan to RP is an archeologist. So I was wondering if there was something that I just missed? Or has nothing been designed yet? Thanks in advance for the help :3
