  1. Somebody here got me to read this book a few years ago..Now they're doing the movie and it's an eyeful. We get Deadpool...Harley Quinn...Freddy Kruger....The Iron Giant...It's just a giant crossover of crossover.
  2. You all just want to see more Sunset Shimmer, admit it! In addition to having a new episode today, we will also have the television premiere of Equestria Girls - Friendship Games! In the third EQG movie, Canterlot High, home to our heroines, is set to face off against its rival school Crystal Prep Academy, while Sunset Shimmer deals with her homesickness for the magic of Equestria, meanwhile Crystal Prep brings with them a familiar face, that world's Twilight! What happens? Tune in to find out! The movie airs Saturday 7:00 PM EST on September 26th! This thread is dedicated to discussing the movie before, during, and afterwards. As the thread is now open it may indeed contain spoilers. I ask that potential spoilers talked about or shown before the episode airs stay within the spoiler tags please, after the episode you no longer have to use the spoiler tags, but warning, if you haven't seen the episode yet after it airs, this thread no doubt will have all sorts of spoilers in reviews, images, etc. So tread at your own risk.
  3. A Not So Brief Critical Review of “The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies” “I see fire, burning the mountain side; lots of it.” Before the review, I would like to iterate the meaning of "Critical Review". I am not just judging the subject matter, but the content as a whole composition, or a piece of art. This means my decisions have been based off of scenery, choreography, content, continuity, composition, colors, ect. inside my final grade. Garbage pretty much no one cares about, so I will spare you that much, and keep only what you are most likely interested in knowing. Usually, this sort of judgement can not be made in one pass of the movie. I have watched the movie twice as of the time of writing. Still not enough for a "FULL" review. Second viewing was forced. And unfortunately a third will come, as I promised a friend to take him to see the movie on release date. Yay me. While I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, there are no films without sins, and no films that is likely to ever make a perfect score. When I don't view it critically, this movie will stand for a perfect score, but because I am doing so, I do see problems, but not a large amount. To avoid spoilers, and trust me... you don't want any for this film, I will do my best to not elaborate on some of these issues. The film starts rather abruptly, and many will likely not remember the first five minutes after being heavily bombarded by action scene after action scene. Much akin to the previous two hobbit movies. Except that this film takes it well to the extremes. It is no where near as bad as the Transformer films where the entire movie is explosions after explosions with peppering of slow motion, HDR, and over the top bloom blasted into your eye. But it is pretty unusual for Peter Jackson. All and all, this can actually be over looked quite easily, as it does remind me of Dungeon and Dragon experiences where characters are facing absolutely horrendous odds. And in no way is this movie an offspring of something that Homer would dish out. More so that the dungeon master wants his player's characters to die, and quite viciously so. At a run time of 2hr 20mins (from the producer logos to the end of the credits), this movie plays pretty quickly, and is paced well enough to keep the interest of a hyper squirrel, a rowdy child, and a senile senior in a theater full of distracting toys and imagery. Needless to say, the average audience will be well entertained, and likely be hushing their children for whining about trivial bodily functions. A good portion of the movie is action intensive, but the director of the film is skilled at placing slow scenes, featuring dialogue, and scenic imagery to reinvigorate his audience. Slow motion is present, but it's not used like some way to make the movie better. It's scarcely used, and is used correctly to apply drama, or impact. Rather than let the audience watch pretty sparks, shrapnel, and blood skitter in the air for no other reason than to look cool. Die hard fans of the book will likely be displeased when they learn that the story ends vaguely the same as the original hobbit. And term “vaguely”'s description is attempting to locate a drop of vinegar in the ocean. Such expectations are painfully high however, as there is a point where freedom must be made. If the new ending is favorable or not, is for you to decide. One thing to give Peter Jackson credit for however, is that the entire trilogy is actually very lore friendly. For those who have read the lore of Middle Earth, and not just the Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit books, you will be happy to hear that everything is mostly sound and makes sense. From Tactical decisions made by lords, to the way that the armies' soldiers behave, to even the mannerisms that are displayed. But, like any movie of this current century. There is a heavy amount of CG. This is to be expected. Luckily, it doesn't feel like the entire movie had been shot in front of a green screen. Or had been animated to the character's actions. In fact, scenes where debris is flying, or being shoved about has the closest section being real world effects. While all background action is CG, naturally. Something that was often praised in the Lord of The Rings. The scenes are absolutely beautiful, and do not feel fake. The fictional areas (those that do not actually EXIST in New Zealand or anywhere in the world) all feel very much real, and functional. There is hardly any unnecessary detail, like floating islands, overly floral designs, or arcades of arches where they aren't needed. Or things that don't make any sense. There are also no made up languages, or words. You are free to check your Elven or Dwarven Lexicons. The movie's shots were all designed heavily for 3D in mind. This means you might be distracted by random twigs in your face for a couple of seconds as the camera spins around on a turn table to focus on the key elements. There will also be a sense of depth in both 2D and 3D. Probably most felt inside the mountain, peak shots, or towering shots. So... could be good in 3D, and worth the viewing. Keep in mind, I watched this film in 2D, and personally believe that most of the camera angles for 2D viewing were completely unnecessary. Unfortunately, any negative praise I have for this movie lies in the context of spoilers. I can tell you that in the peak of excitement, my nerd euphoria had been blown to pieces by minor things, and over played cards and tricks that could easily ruin an experience for anyone. Sadly, what's done is done. I am not attempting to persuade, or dissuade anyone from watching this movie. My opinion is just that, an opinion. Everyone is allowed to think other wise, and you are allowed to agree with me if you wish to. The movie comes out this Wednesday, so you have time to decide. My score to supply is: 7/10 (The Problems are like the desolation of Smaug. Small, but great impact.) Breaking away from Critical Review. Now is this movie a must see? If you have seen the previous Hobbits, then yes. By all means. Other wise, it shouldn't be bothered with because the film makes absolutely no attempt to explain anything other than to patch up the Lord of the Ring's holes.
  4. That's right, fillies and gentlecolts! The brony who brought you... nothing... is now going to review the relatively new movie, Equestria Girls! Without further ado, let's go! First, I would like to say praise Celestia for YouTube and TubeMate! As my profile reveals, I live in Sarasota, Florida. How is this relevant? Well, because, to put it simply, Sarasota got screwed over as far as Equestria Girls. There are 2 theatres relatively close to me(Main Street Hollywood 20, and Westfield Shoppingtown's AMC.), but neither one of them was showing Equestria Girls! In fact, according to a web search, NO THEATRE IN SARASOTA WAS SHOWING IT!!!! The nearest participating theatre was in Bradenton! So, faced with that news, I realized I would have to cheat to get what I wanted. Enter TubeMate, a free Kindle Fire app which allows the user to download YouTube videos. After a little bit of searching, I found the entire movie on YouTube, and quickly downloaded it. In essence, what I have is a free digital copy of Equestria Girls, to watch anytime, anywhere, with the downside being that I have to watch the whole movie in one sitting, because it doesn't save my spot. Anyway, sorry for boring everyone! On to the review, with a synopsis of the movie itself! *SPOILER ALERT!!!! THIS IS NOT A TEST!!!! AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE WILL FOLLOW!!!!* The movie starts out innocently enough. Twilight Sparkle, now an Alicorn, is talking to her friends about a coronation of sorts. After speaking with the princesses, Twilight attempts to go to sleep. However, she has yet to get the hang of her new wings. This makes sleeping easier said than done. After Twilight lets out an exasperated sigh, the screen fades to black, and viewers are treated to a dubstep version of the MLP: FIM theme. I truly hope that won't be the next theme for the TV show. It's not bad dubstep, mind you; it's just not something I think would make a good long-term theme song. Oops! I'm rambling. Anyway, after the intro sequence ends, we see a shadowy character in a cloak(I honestly thought it was Zecora. XD) sneaking around the castle. After evading a guard, the character infiltrates the room in which Twilight and Spike are sleeping. She is able to switch Twilight's crown with a fake crown, but, as she leaves, she trips over Spike's tail, and is forced to run while The Mane 6 chases her. She is able, however, to escape via a convenient portal. In the aftermath, the thief is revealed to be Sunset Shimmer, a former student of Princess Celestia. Twilight is sent on a mission to retrieve her crown, as, without it, Ponyville will be left defenseless. However, Spike runs after her, and both of them end up going through the same portal that Sunset Shimmer went through, which, as it turns out, leads to the human world. Twilight is... less than happy with her new form, but she has no choice but to adjust to it. She soon learns that her crown will be given as a sort of prom queen prize, and she must earn the students' votes in order to leave with her crown. Sunset Shimmer, however, is bound and determined to stop her by any means necessary. As if that weren't enough, Twilight is shocked to find out that the rest of The Mane 6(as humans, of course.) have turned against each other, and that she must restore their friendship. That is all I will spoil, however. As with my MLP mobile game review, I shall now list the pros and cons. Pros: Good fan service. Fluttershy says "yay!" and is an animal-lover, Derpy shows up, we get to see Vinyl Scratch's eyes, Scootaloo does The Chicken Dance, and Spike still has a crush on Rarity. The music is pretty nice, especially "Helping Twilight Win The Crown." The characters look nice, although Applejack is the only Mane 6 member who has normal-looking skin. The movie appeals to lots of people. It's not overly feminine, but, at the same time, it looks pretty cute. Fluttershy is ADORABLE!!!! Seriously, I thought I was gonna have a cavity by the end of the movie! Cons: Almost every character in the "human" world looks like they have some sort of skin condition! It could've used more cameos. I suggest Octavia. Also, SCOOTALOO HAS NO LINES!!!! T_T It was a little short. I didn't expect a Harry Potter-length movie, but it could've used 10 or 15 more minutes. Then, maybe, there could've been more screen time for characters that deserved it. Has anyone seen Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel? Imagine that movie, but with MLP characters. That's Equestria Girls. I give Equestria Girls 8.3 out of 10. It's ABSOLUTELY worth watching, even if you're not a brony, although you'll miss some of the jokes. I just hope that, if they make a sequel, they have a better storyline, as well as more screen time for some of the side characters.

Backers of the project got a message from John de Lancie when the e-mail codes were released. Please read: So, that aside, what did you think of it? Please try to avoid spoilers and review in vague. If needed, use spoiler tags for specifics. I think its funny that only in this fandom can one 'spoil' a documentary. I loved the film. I thought it was well produced and very entertaining for all viewers. I think that it lacks more deeper stuff geared towards the brony demographic, but its sacrificed for the greater demographic, the non-bronies who will eventually watch this. I was a little disappointed in that the $300,000 was overspent. Apparently the producers are waiting to get their end of the fair share, because more money was spent on other things. This was why it's so important for it to not be pirated or youtubed. The producers said it stands a good change of being on networks like Netflix, but only if its not available for free. I, however, think it's worth the small investment, even if the documentary can sometimes sound like a cry for understanding from the fandom. My favorite part of the film was In short, I give it a 4/5. Very entertaining, and insightful. My biggest frustration is that the first thirty minutes were a bit dull, but only because it was attempting to monologue certain individuals who's stories are being told. The last two-thirds of the film really took a different direction. And the animation added to it was amazing! Trailer: here are some teaser screenshots:
  6. So, I know more of you saw this movie during the weekend. I saw the midnight showing! And for those who stuck around during the credits, you do know who that purple guy at the end was, right?
  7. I have a wonderful idea for a 2-hour crossover special between Friendship is Magic and Transformers. I hope for it to be the first in a trilogy. I'm going to tell you it right now. Transformers: Friendship is More Than Meets the Eye is the story of 2 intergalactic races of alien robots, the heroic Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, and the evil Decepticons, led by Megatron, and how they wage their war on a planet called Equestria. It is the first in a trilogy. Cast Ponies Twilight Sparkle Fluttershy Rainbow Dash Pinkie Pie Rarity Applejack AUTOBOTS Optimus Prime Bumblebee Ironhide Ratchet Arcee DECEPTICONS Megatron Starscream Soundwave Shockwave Barricade SYPNOSIS The movie begins when an opening speech from Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, who tells the viewers the story of the war between the Autobots and the evil Decepticons, led by Megatron. The war was for the powerful object known as The Allspark, the life force of all Transformers. The Decepticons want it for evil purposes, but the Autobots want to protect it. In a last resort, Optimus hurled the Allspark into space to keep it away from Megatron, where it landed on a strange planet called Equestria 1000 years ago, a planet inhabited by ponies, where it remained hidden, until this very day. 1000 years later, a base containing military ponies called The Wonderbolts. Suddenly, they spot a Wonderbolt that was flying around to patrol the area has been shot down. The Wonderbolts spot a helicopter enter their base. But all of a sudden, the copter starts transforming into a huge 30-foot tall alien robot. It is a Decepticon called Shockwave. Shockwave starts rampaging and destroying the base and overwhelms the Wonderbolt forces. Soon, leaving the Wonderbolt base in ruins, Shockwave goes to find the location of The Allspark. Meanwhile, in a quiet town called Ponyville, a pony named Twilight Sparkle is preparing for a camping trip in the Everfree Forest, with her friends, AppleJack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Rarity. After she packs up her gear, she then heads over to the other ponies houses to tell them its time to go. Soon, the gang then walks all the way outside of Ponyville to get to the forest. On the way, Applejack discovers a strange cube-like object in the middle of the forest. She doesn't know it, but it's the Allspark. She heads back to the campsite to show her friends what she found, and they are impressed. Applejack puts it in her backpack for safe keeping. But suddenly, they spot what looks like a shooting star. But it isn't a shooting star. It's a meteor. It crash lands in the forest. The ponies go to take a look at it, and notice something strange about this meteorite. It's all alien-like. Suddenly, a giant alien robot comes out of the meteorite. The ponies make a run for it, scared. The ponies try to go to sleep, but they are afraid of the robot. Then, they finally go to sleep. They don't know it, but more meteors start falling from the sky in different locations in Equestria, each one containing a giant robot. Later next morning, Applejack goes out for a walk in the woods, and suddenly, a fighter jet shows up and hovers near her. She scared that robot she saw last night might still be out here. The jet transforms into a giant robot called Starscream. Starscream attacks Applejack, demanding The Allspark from her. The other ponies hear Applejack screaming for help and rush over to see her being chased by Starscream. Rainbow Dash tries to fight the towering robot, but Starscream simply swats Rainbow Dash to the ground. Starscream is about to kill the ponies, but is stopped by the Autobot named Bumblebee saves the ponies and fights Starscream. After the battle, Starscream is forced to retreat. Bumblebee takes the ponies to meet the Autobots- Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Ratchet and Arcee. Optimus tells why the Decepticons have been terrorizing Equestria. They want the Allspark, the powerful object Applejack has in her house. Arcee warns the ponies that in at least an hour or so, Megatron will arrive on Equestria and invade Ponyville. So, The Autobots drive the ponies over to Applejack's house and wait while still in disguise. Applejack finds the cube, and the Autobots and the ponies quickly drive out of Ponyville to hide The Allspark somewhere safe. But more troubles arise as Megatron has finally arrived in Equestria. He reunites with Starscream, and orders the Decepticons to go after the ponies, while he takes care of the pitiful town Ponyville. Megatron goes on a rampage in Ponyville, causing massive destruction. Optimus knows that Megatron has arrived in Ponyville, and tells his Autobot comrades and the ponies they have to go back to Ponyville to stop Megatron. Along the way, Shockwave confronts the team and attacks. Optimus tells the team to keep going while he deals with Starscream. Optimus and Shockwave start fighting, and eventually, Optimus gains the upper hand and defeats Shockwave, forcing the Decepticon to retreat. Eventually, the other Autobots make it to Ponyville. Megatron fights the four Autobots and ponies. Megatron overpowers the Autobots and ponies, hammering Ironhide and blasting at Bumblebee. Megatron then calls in for reinforcments. Soon, Starscream, Soundwave, and Barricade arrive in Ponyville. Finally, Optimus Prime makes it to Ponyville and battles Megatron. A huge fight ensuses in the city, Optimus battles Megatron, and Arcee and Ironhide take on Starscream and Soundwave, while Ratchet takes on Barricade. During Optimus and Megatron's fight, Megatron eventually pummels Optimus, and is about to finish him, but then the Wonderbolts arrive and attack Megatron, severly damaging him. Princess Celestia arrives on the scene and gives the ponies the Elements of Harmony. The ponies attack Megatron using The Elements of Harmony, killing the Decepticon leader. With the battle ended, Princess Celestia thanks Optimus and the ponies for their bravery against the Decepticons, and she quickly seals The Allspark in a magic safe where The Decepticons can't find it. In the end, Ponyville is saved, and Optimus knows that while Cybertron cannot be restored with The Allspark gone, but he now has Equestria as his new home, which he vows to protect. The End Should this idea really happen? Yes or no? Why or why not? Leave your answer here.
