1. Changelings When you can be anyone or anything, who are you? Until recently, changelings have appeared regularly only in myths, legends, and old mares’ tales. Any prior historical references were short, sparse, and lacking in detail. Since the attack on Canterlot, however, new information has come to light. The changelings that attacked Canterlot have a very characteristic appearance: their bodies are roughly equine in shape, having four legs and a mane and tail. The changelings in Canterlot were seen to have different body shapes and sizes, much like ponies. Unlike ponies, however, their bodies are not covered in hair, but instead a shiny exoskeleton-like skin, much like an insect. Changelings appear to bear the marks of decay on their bodies; their limbs are pocked with holes and dimples, their manes and tails are wispy and brittle-looking, and their wings appear torn and ragged while still granting them flight. A shell-like structure covers their backs where an ordinary pony would wear a saddle. A changeling’s key trait is his or her ability to shapeshift. Scholars of magic suggest that this ability is a “glamour,” a special spell built specifically for deception. Changelings appear to be able to cast glamours naturally. During the transformation, all of the physical features of the identity they steal are recreated perfectly, down to the last hair. The glamour, however, is merely cosmetic. It only alters the changeling’s appearance and does not grant them access to the individual’s personality, memories, or unique mannerisms. Close friends can easily unmask a disguised changeling who is acting “out of character.” Changelings appear only to be able to assume the form of somepony close to their size. Most changelings appear to be within the same size range as ordinary ponies, save for the queens. Based on what is known about Chrysalis, queens stand taller than their broods, being proportioned more similarly to alicorns than average ponies, though her physical traits remain similar to lesser changelings. Like the smaller changelings, Chrysalis showed marks of apparent decay, with pocks in her wings and her legs and a crooked twisted horn upon her head. Her wings and mane and tail were similarly ragged and worn-looking. It also appears that queens can extend their glamours into powerful charm spells, preventing all but the most strong-willed of individuals from seeing through their deception. The actions of Chrysalis and her brood left a lasting mark on Equestrian views of Changelings in general. Since the only recent contact with changelings was during the Canterlot attack, very little is understood about changeling motives other than their overwhelming hunger for love. This hunger seems to be an intrinsic part of their culture, leading scholars to ask questions about where it came from in the first place. Due to the visibility of Chrysalis’ attack on Canterlot, It is easy to assume that changelings are malicious creatures willing to do anything it takes to acquire love, even if their methods are less than scrupulous. Still, there are some scholars who are reluctant to believe that Chrysalis and her hive should serve as a benchmark for the species. Scattered reports suggest that there are other extant hives ruled by other queens whose methods differ from those of Chrysalis and her brood. Some even say that these other changelings already walk among Equestrian ponydom today! These claims, however, are unsubstantiated and require further investigation, research, and perhaps diplomacy. - Canterlot Research Journal
2. Powerful roars shook a cave deep within the Everfree Forest; painful snapping could be heard along while a vast number of brightly colored changelings were being ejected from the cave with great force, a pile of their battered or outright broken bodies was piling up outside. A blue stallion sized dragon was descending deeper into the cavern easily cutting down any changeling opposition that crossed his path; the brave ones valiantly tried to fend off the dragon while smart ones fled in fear. This was something the dragon Bolt tended to do from time to time when he needed to let off steam and after being saved by Princess Twilight he was feeling particularly powerless. A dragon's pride was more important to him than even his horde of treasure; so here he was deep within a cavern in the woods taking on a changeling hive in order to gain the location of it's queen. In one final assault the entire swarm rushed the dragon, Bolt smiled gnashing his teeth into a cocky grin before he looked skyward and gave a mighty roar; this roar yielded a powerful stream of fire spewing forth to burn and braze the festering colored insects. This hail of fire was enough drive the rest of the swarm out of the cave; leaving only one remaining. Bolt towered over the cowering changeling looking into it's fearful bug-like eyes. The fearful changeling tried to flee only for the thunderbolt of a dragon move swiftly pinning him against the cave wall. The blue reptile gave an aggressive smile tightening his grip around his prey's neck; he was enjoying lording his superiority over this lower life-form. Finally he had what he wanted, one of them pinned to a wall like a fly. Inhaling the dragon took a deep breath to calm himself before speaking in his rough and raspy voice. "I'll make this easy for you. You tell me where Chrysalis is, I let you go and you and buddies can come back into the cave. If you don't feel like complying I burn your entire home to the ground." While he was interrogating the fly-like pony he couldn't help but wonder why the changelings were brightly colored and not the usual jet-black. "What in Equestria happened to these monsters? I was sure they were a darker color and their queen would be here. Never mind that now, as soon as I squeeze her location out of this guy I can leave."
3. Hub thread is up! Halfway between Equestria and Chaosville, lies a sunny archipelago with a perpetually perfect climate. Sure, the sky is a little greenish, and the seawater has a slightly fruity odor, but that really only adds to the exotic enjoyment a pony (or griffon, zebra, etc) can have in such a place! The place has recently come under new management, as a down-on-her-luck Queen Chrysalis decided to cut a deal with Discord, trading away the remains of her Leota Hive tunnels for the deed to this place, setting up a resort to use as a kind of ‘love farm’ for her Hive. After all, if war didn’t work the first three times, why not give peace a chance? So, it’s all set up! Various tropical activities, staffed and run by Changelings who adapt to their customer’s standards of attraction, all dedicated to putting the guests into a good mood for the island’s nightly feasts with the Great Island Queen! Of course the rumors of said customers disappearing afterwards are totally fabrications designed to slander the completely reformed queen; don’t let such silly slanders enter your mind at all... ** So, as you might have guessed, Queen Chrysalis has hatched up a new scheme! In order for her to get this to work, naturally, she'll need help, first from some of her old loyalists who refuse to don the pastel chitin, and also from guests! Lovely pony guests full of love and laughter! So, who's up for a free vacation? Changelings/Staff: 1. Yurei (PyroBlaze) 2. Sachadara (SteelEagle) 3. Vega (Vexus) Guests: 1. Fizzlepop Berrytwist (Dusty) 2. Lensblot (Switchback) 3. Nightwatcher (Lux) 4. Ratan (Discord) 5. Ice Storm (IceStorm) 6. Yu Xin (Dubstep) 7. Dunnie (Dunder)

10. From the album: Regular Cast Pics

The reveal picture for the big surprise for Canterlot's Nightmare Night Event of 2013. Reposted for people in case they just want a copy. It was an interesting challenge to redo a large portion of the image in this manner. I could have made them "pure" Changelings instead of retaining their pony disguises somewhat, but I felt they would be too similar in that regard. Of all of the characters, I found making a Gummy Changeling the most amusing.

11. "Are we all in order? Is all our company and comrades present? The cry goes round the castle walls, 'Now is the time for all good ponies to come to the aid of the party!' Present non-equine company also included, of course." The young unicorn aristocrat Wordworth Psmith beamed over the tea-table, laden with little cakes for his guests, while beside him a stocky Earth Pony refrained from rolling his eyes. He knew his friend's ways well enough; the unicorn always said 10 words when 3 would do, and took on a frivolous formality which just managed to be inappropriate for every occasion, whether solemn or flippant. Whether the other two present would understand this, though, Might Batsman hardly knew. After all, one was a disguised changeling they'd invited over in preparation for an audience before Princess Celestia herself, in order to discuss an alternative Equestrian policy towards their... somewhat insectoid neighbors. And then there was Red Cedar, called as a witness and support who barely knew either of the two young ponies. They'd arranged to meet in Psmith's house, which was in Canterlot; and spare beds had also been arranged for the guests, to save hotel expenditures, and the subsequent risks of exposure. Small talk (most of it by Psmith) had been the rule of the hour until he'd deftly managed to secure the absence of his parents, and the presence of tea and snacks. And so it was that he called the meeting to order...
12. Deadalus' heart was confused and turned ever slightly in his chest, he didn't even know why the hive still considered him one of their own since he never came back to it for years. He couldn't even remember what the hive looked like from his early life but he did remember his siblings heartlessness and did not yearn to return to the miserable hole it was in his head. With the years he had spent happily among pony's of the nearby town, the idea of wasting himself away to follow the whims of his queen was not on his bucket list. he spent more time with them then his own and had developed a unique relationship with them and tried his best to share his ideals with the queen only to be ignored and given orders. He couldn't watch his own hive turn dark and he could not expose them without exposing himself, so the only answer left was to remove himself from the equation and find some place else. But as he stared at the burning sky as the morning sun rose to the clouds, promising to himself he would never return once he had finished this one finial task, he held that small hope she had listened to him and raised these ones differently to the rest. The hope to stay with the small town and the pony's he'd learn to love some much and return to his hive without the dread feeling of finding its darkest side and treat no more then a minion. The great tree he selected to meet stood far above the forest below and was one he had loved the most, and it seem fitting that it should be the deciding place for him. From its tallest branch you could see the faint outlines of the town though the mist that settled over valley like a wooly blanket and see the streams of light though the cracks in the walls that surrounded them. A cool breeze rustled the leaves and brought fresh air from the mountains, it was a great feeling he did not want to miss and made him hope more deeply then ever. He turn his head down a searched the trees for signs of the fledgelings with his purple eyes, they should be here soon. And he had the perfect set of activities to train them in the real world.
13. Pathfinder didn't think much of dark and dank caves anymore. She practically lived in them! They had a high percentage of adventure-based shenanigans relating to treasure and spooky ghost ponies. The only problem with dark and dank caves is that there were other times where they were just empty and gross and it was fine and cool if a cave was gross because it was full of bugs that hampered an adventurer during an adventure, but other times the bugs were just nuisances and boring and if there was no adventure tied the cave then it was a waste of time. A very royal pain in the flank when occasionally the bugs were huge but that could quickly turn into a fight for survival and that was the sort of thing that provided good adventure fuel. All in all, dark and dank caves ranked below ruins, temples, lost cities or mysterious tunnels but just ahead of abandoned warehouses and missing rooms in the adventure-ranking of places to find adventure in! They were also super common. You could find dark and dank caves anywhere in the world but this place took the cake. The Leota forest was commonly thought of just as the forest around Tartarus, but that was pretty dumb. There was a lot more to it than that. There was the section around Tartarus but after a short patch of open ground the forest really opened up. She had seen one of the ancient sites of the battles with discord, narrowly avoided Gelding Grotto, had tangled with some Ursa Majors near the cavern of their species! Kelpie Keep kept no more secrets an the oubliette bored her. Timber wolves howled in frustration and the obelisk stopped churning after she had retrieved the gem of mystery. An ancient watchtower had been used as her camp more than a few times and to some, she had crossed off most of the cool location. And to a certain extent they were right. If you were totally stupid and didn't know any better, you might have thought that the Leota was all tapped out. But Pathfinder was the exact opposite of totally stupid! She was totally smart! Smart as whip with the cutting force of one. Nopony could tell her she was wrong because she was right, and old maps only bolstered that reality. The Leota was deeper and scarier than any modern map would indicate, the scale of which was matched only by the Everfree. It was rumored that all sorts of nasties made their home there, not least of all was Changelings. Silly stupid dumb changelings having silly stupid dumb changeling fun in their caves and their cities, being all silly like. They creeped out a lot of ponies but not Pathfinder. What was scary about a changeling? So what if they changed form! She wasn't a dumby. If somepony showed up, Pathy would assume they were changelings and then kick butt. DURR. MY MARE IS NOT AN ADVENTURER. DUH. But...that was in Equestria. This was in the Leota, away from prying eyes and one of the most likely places they were going to have nested. That alone made the map she found in the watchtower interesting enough, but they would be there for a while. She had stuff to find. It was therefore only months later when something else hit her over the head that it all come together. The marble column that did the job knocked her past last week but it also did something cool. Hidden in it was a map and scroll hidden into the columns, details of an artifact that was being hidden by a pro-Discordian cult that had resisted the two sisters long after Discord had been defeated. Located deep, deep in the Leota where some ponies dared to live when Discord ruled, it was supposed to be a relic of great power. Sidenote- Relics of great power tended to be sorta boring in the long run as nothing compared to the Elements. What was once considered incredibly powerful wa snow little more than a trinket, and most were inert. But this had historical value. Throughout time, there had been eight artifacts created by Discord and given to his most loyal subjects. For all of his chaotic evil, Discord did understand the basics of rewarding your help. While most of Equestria existed in a state of madness and chaos, those who helped him did very well- mansions, land that was normal, slaves and artifacts of power. Six of the eight had been discovered, and the Eye of Beholding was somewhere in the Leota according to the scroll. And that was all she needed ---------------------- Pathfinder had found the probable or at least most likely location to contain the artifact. It had been just a few days but her trip had been uneventful. A few animals gave her the stinkeye but she had been unharmed. It was boring. She had expected hordes of monsters and changelings and the possibility of peace bored her to tears and beyond. But she found the cave and immediately dived in it and it was special. There were already thousands of really huge caves in the Leota, but she had never really scratched the surface of them. After all, she sorta had an idea of where she was going. This was where the artifact was supposed to be and judging just from the entrance it would be a while. The entrance hall seemingly oozed and stood ten ponies tall and thirty ponies wide, with dozens of tunnels in every direction. She took one and this was repeated- a large room with tunnels leading out. One after another Pathfinder pushed on, heedless of the danger. The walls seemingly pulsed and there was evidence of recent habitation, but Pathfinder had come to expect disappointment from the Leota. What was interesting were the rooms. Many of them had the same general construction but seemed more...personalized. Some had old marble structures maintained well enough to act as chokepoints, others had holes in the wall with boxes stacked behind them. One even had only one entrance in and one entrance out and had three dozen tiny holes in the wall! Each one different, each one with a purpose. It felt like she was walking through storefronts, checkpoints, and apartments. You only found those in... Cities. But where were the inhabitants? It didn't take a genius to figure out that these weren't ponies, but a lot of this reminded her of Diamond Dog construction. She had dealt with those mutts long enough to know the difference between the skilled hooves of a workpony and the clumsy claw of a fool dog, and none of this had the grace of a pony city. At the same time though, the dogs were never in such large numbers and they hated sharing space with one another. Too much sense of identity to allow that. She supposed that narrowed it down to... Changelings. And the answer to where they were was soon to be answered as she stepped out of what appeared to be some sort of storefront into a mammoth cavern that showed all of the finery that could be expected from their kind. It oozed off of the walls as thousands upon thousands of insect wings and hooves clambered over one another to push and push down a huge sunken path in the dead center of this city. Where to? Why was every ling in this city in one spot moving in one direction...? Pathfinder ducked behind a rock the moment she entered, her body as low as she could go. She had guessed lucky enough- she had a good vantage point and whatever was going on, the masses seemed preoccupied, even excited, about something that was happening down below. She squinted her adventurer's eyes and her heart stopped and eyes lit up with excitement all at once. Could it be? Was it she? There was a good reason they had all gathered down below! She didn't dare speak but her back hooves lightly tossed in the air gently. This was going to be the best adventure ever! She was going to liberate a relic and pull one over on Queen Chrysalis all at the same time! Awesome!
14. ((OOC: This is the first thread in The Fall of Roam storyline. If you have a character who you would like to include in this thread, please sign up in the OOC thread here first. .)) Failure was humiliating; repeated failure was maddening. There were only so many times a changeling could have her plans, her hopes for her and her subjects, dashed so absolutely by inutile vermin and still keep her head held high and her eyes looking forward. Every plan that ended in failure sliced layers off of not only her pride, but her confidence and her reputation. She was far from deaf to the murmurs in the darker corners of her kingdom. In time, even her most loyal subjects might lose patience with her. Shouldn't they though? A leader's job was to produce results. Every time they failed, every time subjects ended up felled or captured as a result of one of her plans, every time they were forced to return to their wasteland with their hunger for love unsatisfied, every time the burden of it all was all on her back. No, things were not easy for a queen who was a failure. The shadow of dread cast by the thwarted Nightmare Night invasion plan was hard to escape. The changelings of the kingdom looked toward Chrysalis' keep with expectations now. Weeks of bleak and bitter reflection had followed for the queen. Oh how she hated them, those ponies! Like miserable cockroaches, they always found a way to survive. Even without their elements, even without their leaders, they had still found a way. Chrysalis had been unable to secure even one miserable little pony town. Was she a fool to be ambitious, to try and change things for once? Was the place of her kind in this world to just miserably subside on hapless forest creatures, never knowing how it feels to truly be satisfied? It couldn't be. Action was needed. She had been defeated, but only when she gave up would she have truly failed irrevocably. Her subjects were restless. If left to just sit and lick their wounds, the bitter sentiments stirring in the hive would just start to boil over. No, as queen, Chrysalis needed to do her part to set morale right. That's why, after only a few dark weeks, Chrysalis emerged from her doldrums with all of her usual vigor, her eyes set on the future. A new plan was needed, a plan that would not fail. Chrysalis needed to pick a target that could be overwhelmed effectively and without drawing the immediate gaze of Celestia and those loyal to her. If they could secure any pony settlement of size, they could feast on the love of the inhabitants. Then, with the power they had acquired, overpowering even Canterlot might be feasible this time. After consulting some of the books in her library and a map of Equestria, a new plan started to piece together in the queen's head. Once she had it all sorted out, she sent for her lieutenants. She was positive that this plan, her most fool-proof yet, would be just the thing to restore all flagging spirits. "I must start this meeting off with an apology," Chrysalis spoke in a low voice as she stepped toward the front of a hall in her castle, full of many of her most loyal followers. She had issued a general summons across her kingdom that morning. What she had to relate to them she felt could wait no longer. "More than once now, have I failed you all. It is difficult for all of us to look back at the recent Ponyville invasion and not feel an overwhelming disgust...yet, I urge you, my subjects, to dwell not on the failures of the past any longer. We changelings, we need to look now toward the future. We must look not at why we have failed, but how we can succeed!" "Canterlot and Ponyville both were precarious targets, sitting squarely under Celestia's nose. Surprise is a powerful tool, but it alone is not something that can win the day for us. You see, my subjects, our truest problem is that we are simply not strong enough. All these years we have grown weak and complacent, wasting away in these remote lands surviving off creatures pathetic and meek. We deserve better...! We deserve the rich and abundant resources of Equestria, but, can we truly make them ours as we are now? What can a pack of frail and starving dogs do but get batted easily away by their stout and vigorous would be prey time and time again?" the queen continued, getting increasingly more intense. "If we are ever to set hoof into Equestria's heartland again, we must first feast. If we can make ourselves stronger, even the best defenses of Celestia and her princesses will crumble." "And so I have come to announce a new plan we shall now work toward making a reality, a plan by which we can acquire enough love to make ourselves unstoppable!" Chrysalis started loudly, just as a large banner at the back of the hall was unfurled. It was a map of Equestria. Circled on it was a single Equestrian city, far, far to the southeast of the changeling kingdom, further east in fact than any other city on the map. "For our next plan, we will lay hold to the city of Roam. It is a large city, but a remote one, separated from the Celestia and the cities of the heartland by the high Eponnine Mountains. It is on the very opposite end of the continent from our homeland, making it a target few would expect. Moreover, the city is of curious design; made as it is of bridges, islands and canals, it should be easy for us to block off and control the population there." A deep smirk got very readily deeper then until the queen gave a soft giggle. "But most importantly of all, Roam is famed by the ponies as the 'City of Romance'. Young lovers swarm to the city in droves to vacation. There is more saturated love in this one pony city than possibly any other. If we can secure it, it will be the springboard we need to, in time, make all of Equestria fall at our hooves!" She concluded, flying upward a little and giving an intense laugh. Her speech concluded, Chrysalis smirked and looked out upon her minions. Many seemed worked up, happier than they had been since before the recent invasion. She looked a them expectantly, wondering if any might be bold enough to step forward and speak their mind.
15. Nightmare night had ended. The second invasion attempt of the changelings and their Queen Chrysalis had ended once again in failure. Celestia's magic had jettisoned a great deal of the changeling forces that remained in Ponyville and the Queen had been forced to flee as she realized thanks to the efforts of several groups of common ponies the bearers of the elements of harmony had been freed. The attempt to keep the princess of the sun restrained headed by the changeling Luxuria, had also failed. The the forces of the invaders laid in shambles and disarray and many of the changelings were left to their own devices with their sudden separation from the swarm. A certain female changeling was also blasted from the town despite being an active ally to the ponies in the battle. She had come to Ponyville hoping to have a fun night but instead she was reminded why she always has to hide and only was able to drop her illusion among the family of ponies who had raised her in Dodge Junction. At first her hopes were greatly lifted when she saw Celestia free from her bonds but after realizing what was about to happen she couldn't help but feel a bit sad that she was still lumped together with these monsters, regardless of the Princess' parting speech that said she would be welcome back. Aria... or Aurelia as she had first been named was left careening through the air and severely disoriented as she tumbled through the clouds. Eventually she managed to gather her thoughts and collect herself enough to start buzzing her wings to slow her descent towards what seemed to be the border of the White Tail Woods and Everfree Forest. She had hoped to at least slow down enough to fly before she hit the ground... she didn't. Aria's wings had managed to slow her down enough she didn't hurt herself too bad upon impact but she wound up taking a few bruises as she wound up skipping on the forest floor like a flat rock tossed just right on a lake surface. With each bounce on the ground she let out an audible,"Oof!" each utterance of the sound decreasing in any tone of urgency as she slowed down. Eventually the changeling mare pulled herself up from the ground and started dusting herself off... "Sweet Celestia...That was close...now ta figure out where the hay Ah am..."
16. Queen Chrysalis was ecstatic. It was finally time. She had been planning for this day for months and watching it unfold now.she had all confidence that Twilight Sparkle and her accursed friends had gotten the better of her for the last time now. Ponyville would soon be all hers and with it the sweet satisfaction of revenge! She snickered deviously at the delicious thought. There was absolutely nothing that could stop her now. Nightmare Night. The pony's cute little day of safe scares. For all intents it was a day for children, wrapped though it were in the frightful and fearsome. It was a day where ponies let their guard down because they wanted to be scared. They wanted to experience something more than the miserable tedium of their usual day to day. That is what made it absolutely perfect! Ponies wanted to experience fright this day, so why not give it to them? Why not give the ponies of this town the sort of Nightmare Night they'd never forget? "Come minions, the time is now!" Chrysalis shouted out into the night. "Twilight and her loathsome little friends have been captured. The six we've put in their place should be springing their traps shortly and already ensnared much of the town! Spread out now and capture any stragglers you see!" She cackled loudly and then flew up into the air. "Soon, this town and the love of all those in it will be all ours!" The buzz of changeling wings sounded all around her while the screams of terrified ponies became increasingly more frequent. The sound of chaotic noise filling the air all around them brought great joy to the queen. This was the taste of victory! There was none this day who could even hope to challenge her. That said, she was quite curious to see if any of these ridiculous ponies might try!
17. Premise and setting A small concept I thought up of. over the past few days of playing. Imagining what might happen if Equestria treated the Changelings as complete aliens, and how they would combat the threat. I would like to take a moment to say that there will be tons of headcannon, and tons of explanations that may not follow your thoughts, but my ruling is final on this matter. The Technology level, is quite sporadic. The most advanced weapon a pony has with them, is a pre-WW1 to WW1 Rifle (Ie, Springfield, . No shotguns, no semi-auto pistols at this point (revolvers up to the rifle era-range are permitted). Other than that, crossbows, bows and their associated variants, swords, assorted melee arms, and matchlocks, and flintlocks are available for use. Note that I don't like anyone having anything bigger than a personal weapon, so no big cannons, not "suddenly portable Gatling guns". Magic-based weapons must be cleared through me. Use of a pre-WW1 to WW1 rifle must be cleared through me. Aside from that, armour is still primitive, metal platings, or leather gear. And at this point there is nothing else. To to TLDR Tech level: Pre-WW1 to WW1 rifle is highest permitted. No Semi-Auto pistols, no MGs, No Gatling guns, no cannons of any size. Revolvers, flint/match lock firearms are fair game. As well as swords, and assorted stringed bow weapons. Armour is still Leather and metal. Magic-based arms are usable at my discretion. Advancement of the roleplay depends on how the players perform. Changelings that are brought back from the field are usually autopsied (if dead), or interrogated (if alive), just like in the game. It takes time to research and develop the new improvements, and that time will progress as while the agents are in field. The end result of the team influences what the Changelings do next, so care must be taken to not make things too much to handle. So recap: Moving the RP onwards is solely dependant on how the Players act. You can mess up, and cause the Changelings to be bold and deadly, or you can annihilate the attacking force. You can bring back tons of the dead for autopsies, or you can capture the living to interrogate. (Nb, Interrogation not available from the start, you need the tech to bring them back without an Changeling army assaulting XCOM HQ) Speaking of which, an "agent" is the character you use to join. When it comes time to make that application for him, he must seem "unique", special, and somepony that might be considered for a black-project that involves the fate of Equestria. That means, no one-liners, no short stops ("He shot the Changeling" is much much different compared to "He took aim at the Changeling's body, and fired a single shot at it"), and I will say it now, An stat system will be implemented to make it easier to compare and determine capabilities of the Changelings and the Agents (eg. Autopsy on Changeling can reveal certain stats about it). On a scale of one to 7, 3 being the average for all ponies, 1 meaning the pony is subpar in that stat, and 7 meaning it's exceptional in the stat. Strength: Self Explanatory. Applies to doing anything with physical force required. Endurance: Also Self Explanatory. A gauge for how many hits you can last. Thought you cannot die (unless you want to), the worst you will get is into a critical condition. Agility: Gauges two things, How far and fast you can run, and how well you are able to respond to enemy attacks. Dexterity: How good you are with making your weapon "dance" (in other words, how fast that sword can move, or how accurate that gun is). A gauge of accuracy if you will. (How hard you hit and if you hit at all are different) Will: For non-unicorns, it shows how much you can take before pressure sets in and you break. Also shows susceptibility to mind-magic. For Unicorns, it also determines how strong their magic is. Every Agent has 15 points to assign (4 on all for a "jack of trades, master of none" ). Everypony comes with a free point in all stats (because of your trained backgrounds). Your stat should reflect your backstory, character's physique, and Cutie Mark ability. Changelings will perform many actions that irk the ponies in XCOM, and the Royal Family. Ever since they beefed up their own screening, it has become easier to detect and identify whenever Changelings are on the move. Now that they are bolder, they tend to abduct ponies from towns, conduct terror campaigns, etc. Not to mention they have adapted multiple forms that are appropriate for their function and purpose while on the field (yes, expect big, hulking Changelings with giant claws). Changelings also have their purpose-built awesome magic that's dangerous. I will randomly decide whichever one of these is happening. The course of one activity shouldn't take many posts... if everyone does it with much detail. Otherwise things will go on for longer. I will give brief rest times inside XCOM HQ to RP you character's outside of battle, as they will also serve as a counter for developing/creating equipment and items. Test Character Sheet I welcome any comments, suggestions, and interest in this roleplay. Do keep in mind that this is basic framework, I will expand it more as I think of more.
18. "Power corrupts..... so absolute power corrupts absolutely. Time teaches us this. We take this message from time and try to learn from our mistakes; Sometimes it can seem cruel, sometimes it will seem hopeless. But it is the hope on the horizon that has kept us going. That has kept ME going. It has been five years........ Five long, hard years. Not long after Princess Twilight Sparkle was crowned, it became apparent that peace had finally settled on all of equestria. Things were different though...... Twilight was.... different. Ponies began to fear the Princess of the stars; the one who had the power to accomplish anything. She began to take notice of this, soon enough she began to take risks; risks that were plain in sight to the populace. But nopony said anything; this unicorn turned alicorn, just how much power did she have? What was she capable of? Eventually, ponies took heart and began to stand up to her, but the uprising was short lived. She silenced the rebels viciously, there was no trial. No charge of treason, just slow, painful death at the hands of the alicorn princess. More and more ponies rose to the cause; It was clear that Twilight had now become a tyrant, not a princess. When Princess Luna and Princess Celestia struggled to justify their heirs choices, they too joined the fight to end the reign of the once noble Princess of the stars. But Twilight had anticipated what was going to happen, and so she enlisted the help of powerful enemies of equestria; the changelings. Together they resurrected king Sombra of the crystal empire, with the promise of returning his empire to him; she was now unstoppable. The assault final assault on Canterlot lasted 3 long days; thousands of lives were lost in the culling of the innocent and guilty alike. On the final hour of battle, only two figures remained. They stood tall, although broken in mind and spirit. The destruction of their kingdom glared at the from all around; with one responsible. Perhaps it was by fate that the student now surpassed the teacher, but one thing was clear: only one would be walking away from this final battle. Nopony knows what happened on that final, fateful hour. Equestria now lies in ruin, with a tyrant empress sitting upon it's throne. The populace: an enslaved, beaten entity. Corrupt nobles run the new cities and towns, appointed by Twilight herself. The Elements of Harmony have gone into hiding: afraid that they would be the first targets of this new dictatorship. But what can anypony do? A few have chosen to question this statement. a resistance has began to rise in the slums of the once grand cities. We few have chosen to rise from the dirt and the dusk and rise to rebuild our once grand nation. So, the choice is yours. Do you choose to stand your ground against the tyrant that we call empress? Or do you stand steadfast by her side, choosing to defend this new, noble civilisation? Maybe time will tell. But I know it is time for a change, for better or for worse. A time for peace, or a time for war. A time for vengeance." - Nocte, leader of RLF, the Royal Liberation Force. Hi there everypony! Some of you may know me around here, others may not. To those of you who don't, you can call me British. Now, what we have here is an idea that I've been cooking up for a while now. Some of you may remember Valencetiger's revolution saga: an rp that I dearly miss, and wish to revive in a way, with my own spin on things of course. To put the plot into a basic summary, you can refer to the first sentence of the above. Power corrupts, so absolute power corrupts absolutely. We all pondered how Twilight may react and cope with her new royal status, but what if she took it the wrong way? That is basically the premise. What about characters? With the rise of Twilight as dictator-evil-empress, a new caste system has been developed. At the top sit the nobles of the new civilisation, which are mainly comprised of Unicorns and Changelings. Next stand the middle class, mostly Pegasi, with a few Unicorns and Earth Ponies. After that is the working class, a mix of the bunch, with all three pony races, but mainly Earth Ponies. But at the bottom of the pile are the non-pony races, Zebras, Dragons, Gryphons, and the rest of the races that inhabit the new Equestria. The mane six are still about, but have gone into hiding to stop themselves from being targeted by the empress. If you wish to play as one of them, let me know via pm. What happened to the cities and towns? Canterlot remains the capital of Equestria, but has been rebuilt and renamed to Equinia after the destruction of the culling. Other cities include New ponyville, the once peaceful village turned bustling city, rivalling the population of Canterlot, Las Pegasus, Stalliongrad, Manehatten, Appaloosa and Thunderneigh. Since the return of Sombra, many crystal ponies have fled the empire, but it does still remain, albeit in a crushed, hopeless state. But rumours have sprung up of a new village free of the empresses' corruption nestled in the mountains, named Dusk's Blossom. If this is a war, what weapons can we use? A few good outcomes have come about since Twilight's ascension, including the acceleration of pony technology. Equestria is very much in a Victorian like era, with steam and magic powered machines hitting the scene. This means that yes, there is guns, but nothing to the standard of what we have today. Think of old bayonet rifles and flintlock pistols, nothing too advanced. But be aware that swords and other bladed weapons are still the main choice of Equestria's military. Magic weapons have been developed too, with steam/magic powered blimps taking to the skies for aerial combat. What are the factions we are fighting for? I am going to say that you don't necessarily need a faction, but they go as follows: The GEF, Grand Equestrian federation: This was founded shortly after the culling, and it's main role is to serve as Equestria's military backbone and police force. They mainly utilize the old ways of pony to pony combat, meaning swords, bows, lots of numbers, and powerful Unicorn magi, but do have a rifle force, and a blimp air force ready to deal out some damage from the skies. They also employ gryphons as elite aerial shock troopers, and Dragons for when the going gets really tough. Empress Twilight Sparkle also has her own personal bodyguard, comprised of elite Unicorn, pegasus and dragon soldiers, led by none other than Spike the dragon, who is sworn to give his life for his empress. The RLF, Royal Liberation Force: An army of rebels who operate in secrecy in the Equestrian underground, these brave souls use guerilla warfare and unconventional tactics to outsmart the GEF. It is the oldest group of rebels the GEF has had to put up with, and the first to stand up against the new empress. It is a rag-tag group at best, comprised of hired mercenaries, former soldiers of the royal equestrian military from before the culling, and civilians who feel that it is time for a change. They fight with whatever they can get their hooves on, but focus a lot more on attack and guerilla tactics than the GEF. As for your own faction, if you wish to create one, by all means do, as there are many other movements throughout the time of the revolution. If you do, you will have to explain their cause to battle, how they came to be, and if possible, what sorts of tactics and weapons they use. Time for some applications! Here is the basic layout, don't be afraid to add stuff if you think you need to. Name: Your name dummy! Age: How old are you? I will allow fillies and colts, but they will not be able to get into the nitty and gritty of the revolution. Gender: As Professor Oak said, are you a boy or a girl? Race: The races are Earth Pony, Pegasus, Unicorn, crystal versions of the previous three, Changeling, Zebra, Gryphon or Dragon. Please, no Alicorns. Alignment: What faction do you support, if any? And if you are indeed in a faction, a rank would be nice too. Place of Birth/Starting Location: Where does your character hail from? Physical Appearance: What does your character look like? Small or tall? Any distinguishing features, maybe a scar or two? Nothing too crazy though. Personality: Just who is your character? Are they shy and forgetful, or loud and clumsy? Perhaps they secretly are into pop music? Cutie Mark (If available): Your special talent silly! History (Back Story): Give us a quick, or indeed long, backstory of your character. Well, that about does it from me. If you have any questions, and I mean any, please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks all for reading, and I guess I hope to see all of your apps!
19. Hello, and welcome to the OCC of Changeling: The Masquerade. This is my first forum roleplay so I hope this goes well. Recent reports of changelings in the city of Los Pegasus have come to Celestia. Knowing that sending soldiers would create panic she sends the Bearers of Harmony to investigate about the sightings of changelings." Thank you for reading this. 21. 1. What a Tragic Mess! Greetings Ponies! I seldom venture into crossovers but I figured it was about time that I gave it a good honest shot! I decided to make a plot based on the musical on cd “Razia’s Shadow” But before we get in over our heads I figure we should put down some ground rules First off this will take place in the 18+ Section of the FFA so I suggest you be sure you are 18 or older, it will not be sexual however there will be violence. I. You will be required to apply for the characters via sending me a pm with your character information as we will need a equal amount of dark and light ponies II. Your ponies will NOT be Alicorns unless you are taking on Celestia or Luna, Earth, Pegasus, and Unicorns are allowed, as well as a few changelings . III. One or two paragraphs at minimum, no one sentence replies, put effort into your posts please, I don’t care if this is FFA or not there will be no slacking on my ship! (Shush I know I am not on a boat L Mane cast are more than allowed but if you take on the part of a mane character you better be able to play them. Alright any questions on the rules or plots then feel free to post them here J Time for the PLOT! Don’t you ever dream of someplace better? The balance is gone, the two princesses ruling night and day had a horrid dispute causing them to divide the relm of Equestria, one half trapped in the dark, and the other in the light, a large mountain being formed between the two sides to separate them from each other, despite this bitterness, there are still ponies who remember the time when the world was in balance and at peace, but now they have nothing but the cold mountain as proof, to this day nopony has crossed it, save for the brave few whom were never heard from again. Both Princesses sit on their thrones, elevated high enough to see the other’s side, and both feel the tear in the divide due to their squabble, which by now neither can remember the cause, and they miss each other, but both too stubborn to take the step to mend the bond. That is where the Dark and the Light come into play. To erase the wrong we’ve done! The Dark and Light will become one! In the dark there were two young princes, bound to one day rule the lower levels of the dark, Adakais the youngest , and his older brother Pallis whom was heir to the throne…As young foals they heard stories from the elders about the light and young Adakais’s head was filled with ideas of one day crossing the mountain and seeing this glorious city all a glow with lights, while Pallis wrote it all off as nonsense. In the light there were two siblings as well, Anhura and Ahrima whom grew up hearing of the cold and desolate darkness where plants grow but are wild and untamed, and where a pony has to work hard to thrive, Anhura’s heart breaking with pity, and the desire to help them, while her Sibling Ahrima brushed them all off as old Ponytails for small foals. Both sides are divided, but two are about to make that step to reunite them, on their trecks through their kingdoms both Adakais and Anhura will come across many beings in the dark and the light, some to hinder, like those who are much happier in the dark and light segregation , and those who wish for nothing more but to aid them. Which side are you on? The Dark consists of Changelings Gryphons Earth ponies Unicorns The Light consists of Dragons Pegasus Ponies Unicorns The Rest is up to you, to do with what you’ll do. Application in next post. Accepted Characters : Thanatos (Earth, Dark, Companion of Adakais) Adakais (Unicorn, Dark, Main Protagonist )
22. Webs and statues adorn the dimly lit cave near Ponyville, creating one of the scariest areas in Nightmare Night history. Ponies in Changeling costumes hide in shadowy crevices, ready to pounce on anypony that passes by. After all, what would Nightmare Night be without a few heart pounding scares? Even with the recent threat to Equestria, everypony has been assured that there will be no real Changelings. But the decorations look so lifelike...
23. Nightmare Night, what a fright! Give us something sweet to bite! All across Ponyville (and Equestria), foals, fillies, colts, and foals at heart are all in the spirit of the season as they are costumed and trick or treating around town. Festivities abound and from one end to the other ponies are having fun. Bahhhh! Nightmare Night is about fear, being scared, and yes, candy! Are you brave enough to engage in the traditional Nightmare Night games and brave the spookiest, scariest locations in the land in search of treats? Even the most stout-heated of ponyfolk may feel a twinge of fear, and the result of your expedition may not be what you were dreaming of... Here's the game, and everypony has to play! Well, not if you don't want to-but where's the fun in that? Here's how it works: There are five locations, and each night of the event you may choose to trick-or-treat at one location. Each night, a different character will appear at a random location, and you will be either tricked, or treated! The object of the game is to be treated the most times, and end up with the most candy by the end. Basic Rules: Once you pick a location for that 'night' (one location per two RL days), you may not be active in a different location until the next night! Each night you can choose a different location to try your luck at, or choose to revisit the same one you visited the previous night-but you may only trick-or-treat at one location per night! You may have two characters participate, but not in the same topic on any given night. Each topic is open for 72 hours. To Trick-or-Treat for that day you must choose one location and RP your chosen character (OC or Cast) within that thread during the first 48 hours! At 11:59pm (US Pacific time) every other day, each topic will be visited by a mystery character, and all the ponies present will be tricked or treated accordingly. New threads will open up at 12:00am the day after, starting the next night to be RPed! Be sure not to miss a night, and try to get as many candies as possible! This event will run from October 30th until November 11th. This topic is for questions, comments, and some OOC chatter. You never know which character will show up in which thread. Its always random! At close to midnight each night, a post will be made for each character who has visited a thread. Every post after an event character will NOT be counted towards candy- since the topic has already been trick or treated. Each thread will stay open only 24 hours after it has been visited by its mystery character for you to RP your reaction. Once it is closed, it is closed for good! Locations/Events Everfree Moon Palace Nightmare Moon's Monument The Gates of Tartarus Haunted House, hosted by Iron Will Celestia's House of Mirrors The Changeling Lair Notice: This is an unofficial event. No awards or monetary prizes will be given. It's just for fun! Event Threads: RESULTS: Awards: First: Second: Third: Participation: Awards by:
24. Hi guys, I'm in the middle of writing a MLP fanfiction called "False Harmony", about a Royal Guard who learns the truth about the Solar Empire's history. Here's a preview of it: I woke up with a throbbing headache and immediately began trying to remember what happened. I remembered getting on our chariot for an important mission. I remembered flipping through the pages of my dossier and I remembered shortly after that, seeing a bright flash and a very loud noise. That was I could remember. I opened my eyes to see myself in a large black room. There was a changeling sitting in an office chair looking at a folder. “War criminal? Terrorist?” he chuckled and walked over to me, as I still lied on the floor. I sat up as he got closer. “Celestia's propaganda at it's worst.” The changeling continued walking closer. “My name's Dr. Silurian, I don't believe we've met.” The Doctor reached out his hoof for a hoofshake. I just kept angrily staring. He lowered his hoof and began to speak again. “You're probably wondering why you're here, aren't you?” I stayed speechless. “Well the Changeling Reunification Front saw your chariot coming into our airspace and fired a couple of missiles at it. “Where THE is my squad?” I shouted. “I'm sorry to say it, but we didn't find anypony at the crash site except you. There was nothing else there except ashes and scraps of armor.” My heart sunk as I realized that I was the only pony who made it out of the crash alive. “The CRF doesn't mess around when it comes to Equestrian soldiers. Ever since the occupation happened they usually prefer to strike the enemy first if they can. “WHAT THE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? WHERE AM I? I yelled. “You're in the CRF's main headquarters. When your chariot went down, a few rebels and I went to check out the crash site. We saw you there in a pile of ashes and in a puddle of your own blood. I knew that we would have to act quickly. We brought you back here with us, and some of our medics patched you up.” I was totally baffled by what he said. “This doesn't make any sense? Who would go out of their way to save an enemy soldier?” Dr. Siluran started to chuckle again “A good military force tries to save as many lives as possible” he said. “BUT YOU KILLED MY SQUAD YOU !” I yelled. “Yes, we did.” Replied the Doctor, “But what choice did we have? You and your squad were brainwashed from the time you were fillies. You were taught that Celestia's regime was one of harmony and peace. You were drafted into the Royal Guard, taught to carry a sword and die for your Princess before you were old enough to know what you were doing. “What the is your point here?” I asked, still noticeably enraged. The changeling spoke once more: “Everything you know is a lie” Thanks for reading. None of this is final, so I can always make changes. Especially spelling/grammar changes because I typed this at like 3AM. .
25. Description: Hey, new fanfic I started. This one is based on a Changeling named Shadow. Also, I'm open for suggestions on a name other than Blueberry Blossom. Chapter 1 I had been in this form for a long time... so long, I almost forgot what I actually looked like. My name is Blueberry Blossom... or Shadow, if you want to go by my old name. I have to tell you a story... I've written it down, because I don't know how much longer I may survive. I was sent by Queen Chrysalis to spy on the ponies of Canterlot. She said it would be easy—I believed her. And it was, at first. We'd pose as somepony's lover, arrange meetings, and then feed off their love for a little while. We had to do this frequently, in order to constantly feed and avoid suspicion. So there was a lot of changing going on. Eventually, Chrysalis developed a more permanent solution. I stalked somepony for awhile, learned their mannerisms... then ambushed them sucked out their life force when the opportunity presented itself. There were a few of us assigned to this task. Chrysalis always took care of the bodies. Then, we'd each pose as the pony we'd gotten rid of, stealing their life—and their love. Some of them even had kids... which just provided more ponies to feed on. So we continued on, feeding off the ponies of Canterlot while Chrysalis hatched her plan. I was her second in command, her most trusted Changeling. Funny how I'm the one that let her down the most. We were all just supposed to follow orders. Mimic the lover for a time while feeding off the love from their family. We were all fine with it. We all trusted Chrysalis. We were loyal followers... it was just orders. But still... I felt incomplete. I was working for the good of the swarm, for the future of our race. I had somepony who loved me, I had 'friends', I had... everything I should have wanted. I should have been happy. Right? Ever since I was born, I had followed orders. That was just the way life was. Always pushing forward for the betterment of all Changelings. I didn't mind following orders, always being told and knowing what to do. That is, until I found out there was more to life. I could make decisions here. Chrysalis wasn't always around to tell me right from wrong, what to do and what not to do, and how to go about things. For once, I had control over my own life. At first, that frightened me. I had discovered individuality. I wasn't just some mindless creature that Chrysalis had made me to believe. I had a personality, my own likes and dislikes. And most of all... I had feelings. We weren't supposed to fall in love. That was never the plan. Just pretend, that was all. Deceive. I felt guilty. I felt guilty for deceiving him. I felt guilty for making him love me. I felt guilty for loving him. If I revealed my true self, it would be a betrayal to my entire family. But if I didn't, I would have to leave him in the dark, wondering where his special somepony went and what he did wrong. I guess I had never felt love before. It was just an emotion that we Changelings had to feed on. A life force provided by a lesser species. But maybe Changelings just fed on ponies... because they were jealous. After all, we shapeshifted into them, stole their lives... and then slowly destroyed them in the name of our existence. Or maybe... that was just me. But he really did love me—even if it wasn't the real me. I felt special, giddy. There was a whole wave of overwhelming emotions that I didn't understand. Even though I was personally tough, he treated me gently, with respect and care. For the first time, I felt bad for taking somepony's place. Before, we'd just do a hit and run. Arrange a date, meet with them, pretend to be their love, feed, and then go on our way. But Chrysalis' plan involved a long term relationship. That was something I was not prepared for. My life became so entwined with hers that I nearly forgot who I was. The lie that I was living consumed me, just as I was slowing consuming him. I guess that's why I tricked myself into thinking that he could love the real me. He already loved me for everything on the inside. The outside shouldn't matter, right? I revealed myself to him one night, and explained as gently as I could that his former mate was gone. But the look of terror on his face was enough to say that he would never accept me for who I was. He screamed at me to get out, throwing any object within reach at me to hurry my pace. I walked the streets alone that night, in my normal—well, my pony form. When I returned the next day, he had offed himself. I ran away. I went to Chrysalis for comfort. She was our queen, and I had always been her second in command and most trusted Changeling. I didn't go to her because I had failed. I was—I was heartbroken. It's a thing that few Changelings ever experience. I'd heard of heartbreak before. It was something that happened to weak Changelings. They became too attached to their host. Once something happened to their “mate”, they generally went insane. I never thought it would happen to me. I had let myself be blind to the truth. We disguised ourselves because nopony could love us in our natural form. I had thought my case was different... as others had in the past. It was a flaw in our design. Some of us were just destined to fall for the one who loved us—or rather, who we tricked ourselves into believing we were. But, just as I had, Chrysalis saw my actions as weak. I was damaged, flawed... she could no longer trust me. However, she was not without mercy. I was simply placed into the rank of pawn, one of the hundreds of Changelings who were ready to be her army and do her bidding. I ran away. I journeyed back to Canterlot, unsure of where to go or who to turn to. I had no home, no job, no friends. The life I had had before was all a ruse, and if I showed my face—her face—again, I would have a lot of explaining to do. It wasn't worth it to go back to my old life. There was nothing. I had nothing. I was nothing. I went back to my old ways, feeding here and there at random. I longed to have a relationship like before. To have somepony, just one pony, love me all the time—for who I was. I tried unsuccessfully to convince myself that he had never loved me for me. It had always been her. But still... I wanted what I had when I was her—but as me. I wanted to love and be loved, without doing so just to feed. Eventually, Chrysalis carried out her plan and overtook Canterlot. I was worried for myself when the initial shield went up, but I had already been in hiding for weeks. When the rest of the swarm finally attacked, I hid. I didn't know how long I could keep it up. I supposed that I would have to integrate back into the swarm, pretending to be one of the mindless. But I was afraid of her finding me. I had run away, and I knew that Chrysalis knew. She was just too busy with her current plan to pay mind to my whereabouts. If she found me... I would likely be destroyed as a traitor. I no longer worked for the good of the swarm, but for the good of myself. We were always supposed to work together, for the good of our species. But I was different. I had become an individual, one not part of the master plan. I was a liability. However, all too soon they were defeated, and banished from Equestria. Though I had still been in my shifted form, I was blown away with them. Chrysalis found me among the ranks, and I barely escaped with my life. Weakened and unable to change form, I journeyed back to nearby Equestria. I hoped against hope that I could find somepony to feed on, to get my strength back and heal myself. I tried pretending to be ordinary. I tried being fierce. The result from my sight was the same: screaming and running. Though I had ill intentions, all I could do was cause chaos. I was near death when they showed up.
