  1. In this episode, the Cutie Mark Crusaders get sent by the Cutie Map to Mount Aris to help a young Hippogriff figure out where he belongs. This thread is dedicated to discussing the episode before, during, and afterwards. As the thread is now open it may indeed contain spoilers. I ask that potential spoilers talked about or shown before the episode airs stay within the spoiler tags please, after the episode you no longer have to use the spoiler tags, but warning, if you haven't seen the episode yet after it airs, this thread no doubt will have all sorts of spoilers in reviews, images, etc. So tread at your own risk
  2. From the album: SymphonicFire's Doodles

This is a rough idea of what I'd like my hippogriff to look like. It looks kinda too colourful, but it's not bad...I think... I first sketched it out on paper and then put it onto Inkscape to vector. I was halfway from finishing when I realized it was not in proportion. I tried adjusting it but I just couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I just continued. He is supposed to have a cutie-mark, but i haven't come up with an idea for it yet. Forgive me if i'm wrong since I haven't watched further than season 3 (oops), but hippogriffs aren't canon right?
  3. Name: Edelweiss Goldplume Gender: Male Age: Col...uh...Aglett? Young. He's young. Species: Hippogriff. Eye colour: red Character colour: snow white Mane/Tail/Other: His tail is kept loose and free, but his feathers, tail, and coat are completely depigmented, The only colour on him is his beak and forelegs, which are pinkish, his red eyes, and his black hooves. Physique: Wiry and lithe Residence: Cloudsdale. Technically. Occupation: Bestest, most adventurest sky pirate ever! Cutie Mark: A compass rose mounted as a ship's wheel Unique Traits: Albino hippogriff with a lot of spunk, and a small scar on his belly, a little to the left side, where he learned how not to fly. History: 'There once lived a pirate captain. He was cunning and daring and bold as the summer sky, but most of all, he was a charming rogue who loved a little too much, a little too often...' This is how many stories began when they were told to the unassuming and meek little hippogriff named after his mother's new favourite flower. He was so small and so very white, and she was a florist who knew her flowers, and knew the name would be a fitting tribute to her homeland of Germaney, and his father's line, though she never really told the griffin about his foal. She'd tell the little guy bedtime stories to calm him down. 'Feeling tied down by his noble birth, his first act as a captain was to steal his ship and fly her into the rising moon....' As he grew, the pegasi and griffin children alike would tease him for being a hybrid of the two races, for being an albino, for all manner of things, as children are wont to do, especially the griffon cubs. And whenever he came home, she would tell him the newest story of Tarisio's exploits from whatever newspaper she'd read them in. 'He was afraid of nopony, and nothing stopped him from finding and having those things he desired as his own' ...and so the tales went as Edelweiss grew. It was no surprise to his mother when he was the first colt to get his cutie mark, nor that it was related to his father's profession. What she did not expect was for him to go off on his own with no warning, prompting her to write the toughest letter she'd ever have to write. Character Summary/Personality: Although once timid and meek, a (relatively short) lifetime of stories has transformed Edelweiss into a rambunctious go-getter. He was flying nearly before he was walking, leading to no shortage of 'fun' for his mother Rosenkospe, who is fortunately a pegasus. He got the notion into his head 'somehow' that pirates were suave, debonair adventurers, who never let anything get them down. And he figured, since his daddy was a pirate, he'd just go try to find him and make HIM take the hippogriff on adventures. Edelweiss is cocksure and headstrong, and often spends more time doing than thinking. As such, he hasn't really found much in the way of anything important, and instead is mostly just wandering Equestria, trying to find his father. That said, he doesn't have a dishonest feather in him, and is quite willing to work for his way, (granted, there's not all that much work he can do, given his age). Finally, while one might think somepony who'd been teased as much as Edelweiss might be bitter or sensitive about it, the hippogriff is surprisingly proud of both his hybridism and albinism.
  4. From the album: Starburst's Scribbles

A vector I did of Riverhippo's OC hippogriff River, upon request. I think it turned out good, it still needs a little bit of cleanup, but its definitely pretty awesome looking. River said he wanted a chubby looking hippogriff and I just extrapolated from there. If anyone wants something similar for their character I charge 20 dollars by the vector through paypal. Just contact me via PM if you're interested.
  5. RP Type: Mane Name: Storm Feather Sex: Female Age: Young Mare Species: Hippogriff Eye Color: Light Blue Coat Color: Dark grey Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: She keeps her black head feathers short and out of her eyes, so she can be sure to see better and keep her bangs from getting singed by the hot furnaces she works. Physique: Storm feather, like most hippogriffs, is fast, agile, and powerful, and a very capable flyer. Cutie Mark: Her Cutie Mark is a flaming anvil. Origin/Residence: Storm Feather was born in Rockwington, a Griffon city, but currently resides in Cloudsdale. Occupation: Storm Feather is a smith. She works the forges to make simple, common items such as cups, clasps, and nails, but will sometimes be commissioned for larger projects like making housing and shops. Motivation: Storm’s main goal in life is to make sure everyone can take care of themselves. She will not hesitate to sacrifice her own wellbeing for the sake of others. Likes: Hard work, making things, helping others, logic, good conversation Dislikes: Inability to accept reality, prejudice, helplessness, nonsense Character Summary: Storm Feather was born to a difficult life. She and her family worked hard every day to make a living for themselves. Her father, a griffon, was a noble and respected member of the community. Her mother, however, being a Pegasus, was not so accepted in a griffon land. When she would go to school she was ridiculed for being a hippogriff. The griffon hatchlings didn’t accept her because she was so greatly different than them. However, her family was strong and tightly bound by love. They worked as a team to get by, protecting, nurturing, and encouraging each other on. As time moved on, her family had to move closer to the Soggalong Swamps for work. They worked there for many years as mud brick makers. They would take soppy, clay filled swamp mud and compact it with long grass to make bricks that were to be used in construction in other cities. Their house, however, was a small cloud that floated just above the swamp. One day, there was a terrible storm and the swamp flooded, almost completely engulfing a neighbor’s house. No one had enough room for the small family of griffons, so Storm Feather took it upon herself to find them shelter. She worked making bricks during the day, and moved to work on a home for the neighbors by night. After several days, during which time the griffon family had stayed in their extremely cramped cloud, Storm realized just how happy she felt coming near to completion on her project, only the finishing touches were left. I could spend the rest of my life doing this… she thought dreamily to herself. The rest of my life… At that moment, she realized she could do this forever. This was her talent. The epiphany had struck, and had left her with a new home for the griffon family and her cutie mark, representing her skill in crafting, burning passion to help others and her iron will to do the right thing. Soon after, she took up a job making much more structurally sound homes, getting her enough money to finally travel to pony lands to see the other half of her heritage. She moved to Cloudsdale, her mother’s place of birth, to soak in her Pegasus culture and learn more about herself and others. Storm Feather is quick and precise, but knows how to adapt to the situation and keep everyone happy. She struggles to make sure she insults nopony through her brash behavior. She likes a good conversation, but enjoys nice, hard work and the satisfaction it brings more than anything.
  6. Roleplay Type: Mane Name: Cydonia Sex: Female Age: 'Mare' (32) Species: Hippogriff Eye Color:French Rose (F64A8A) Left eye damaged and permanently dialated so appears off colour. Coat Color: Pale Aqua (BCD4E6) Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Long rather scruffy mane, kept in a ponytail Caribbean Green (00CC99) colour. Tail same colour as Coat, more pony esque but griffon length. Wings have one white feather each. Deep claw mark scar (3 lines) across left eye. Physique: Fit and muscular. Cutie Mark: A Maul and a few nails Origin/Residence:Bareback Gulch/Canterlot Occupation: Woodworker/Carpenter. Former Sellsword Motivation: To relax finally, and enjoy her hobby. Likes: Lemon tea, rainy nights, misty mornings, The Princesses. Dislikes: Fighting, deserts, splinters, warping. Character Summary: Many years ago, in the hot desert town of Bareback Gulch, Cydonia was born. Prior to her birth, Cydonia's mother, a griffon by the name of Alaston Whitequill resided further north, in the industrial hot spot called Beakbreak City. A dark and smoke covered city, filled with traders and airships, but the even darker side of the city held worse, smugglers, thiefs and swindlers. This was her mothers home though. One night, after walking home from her job at the ship-breaking yard, Alaston was attacked out of nowhere by a group of muggers, after whatever money she may have had on her. Thankfully for Alaston, a stallion nearby overheard the ruckus, and rushed to her aid. After the ordeal was over the stallion checked on her, introducing himself and making sure she was well. The pony's name was Gold Rush, the owner of a small bar, just around the corner. Helping the griffonness to her feet, Gold took her to his bar, which doubled as his abode. After this act of kindness, the two became fast friends, and inevitably much more. Before long, the two were happily wed, and not long after, they were with foal! As much as Alaston rejoiced at this news, she couldn't help but to recall the attack, and others like it that happened to the citizens of that area of the city, and worry. And so, the lovers left behind their city, where they had met and fell in love, for the safety of Bareback Gulch, a small quiet mining town, where they could raise their coming child in peace. Growing up in a small mining town, Cydonia had very few friends, partly because of the small amount of children in the town, but also partly because of her halfbreeding. Ponies often dislike things away from the norm, and that's just what little Cyd was. Despite this, she took it all in stride with her head held high. Her mother always taught her to treat other as she wished to be treated, and she did just that. Kind words in the face of hate and help in the face of hindrance. As she went through school, she, like many children, tried all she could to find her special talent, everything from dancing to singing and drink mixing to sewing. Nothing seemed to work for her and she had nearly given up. Until one particularly hot summer day, Cydonia met one of the towns eldest members. A stallion who had been around since well near the founding of the mines. The old pony sat on his porch, whittling away and carving the pieces of a small bird house. Surprised at how a older pony, whose hooves were so shaky, could carve such delicate designs into wood, Cydonia sat down under the shade of the porch and watched. For hours she watched the stallion chip away and carve ivy like designs into it, before finally nailing it together. With a smile the old stallion greeted Cyd, apologizing for being so enthralled in his work that he forgot to say hello. Shaking her head excitedly, she dismissed this, telling the elder just how fascinating she found the process and much to the pony's surprise, asked if he could teach her how to do it. So before long, every afternoon, after school, Cydonia would arrive at the old stallion's home and practice. And practice. And practice. Having returned home after one of her lessons, her mother gasped in surprise and happiness; for in Cydonia's own work enthralled state, the young Hippogriff had failed to notice her new cutie mark, a maul and some ten bit nails, symbolizing her talent in carpentry. Using her new found talent, Cydonia spent her evenings and mornings making toys and gewgaws for her classmates and teachers, giving them out as signs of friendship and goodwill, even to the ones who shunned and disliked her. Though as she grew into adulthood, Cydonia soon learned that kindness and helpfullness and trinkets of wood wouldn't pay for things alone, and that the world turned to the sound of money. Having no interest in the mining business of the town, and lacking the skill of a bartender to help her father in his bar, the Hippogriff looked into alternate ways of income, before finally settling on a particular job of interest. Becoming a sellsword. Cydonia had became skilled in combat, having very little else to do and no interest in the girly things. A few years of this went by and Cydonia had grown used to the day in day out fighting, feeling like little more than a machine. That is until one fateful day, an expedition to the Everfree Forest with a shady group of characters. This of course, was not out of the norm. But the reason for the expedition was. The group consisted of nothing more than cutthroats and shysters, who in the night stole away with Cydonia's equipment, leaving her to fend alone in the Everfree. After a couple days of wandering, Cydonia had nearly found her way out. The only thing that stood between her and a safe trip home was the one who had hired her for the job in the first place. It had seemed the large griffon had returned to make sure that there wouldn't BE an escape, after having learned of how resourceful she could be. Before long a fight ensued, Cyd tried her best to fight back, and held her own for the most part, until her attacker her slashed her across her left eye, temporarily blinding her and kicked her to the ground before drawing her own stolen sword on her. Scared for her life and in pain, Cyd got her footing once more, vowing that if she made it out of this alive, she was done with the life of a blade. Thinking quickly, Cyd glanced around, taking note of a large branch with a crack just above her enemy. Swiftly she flew up, kicking the branch, causing the heavy limb to land with a thud on the griffon. Without so much as a look back, Cydonia made her escape. Not long later, Cydonia kept true to her promise. Her wound having healed, she bid her family goodbye, and moved on to a better city, Canterlot; where she used what money she had to set up shop. A small wood crafting and carpentry store by the name of Burin Woodworks, in honour of her old mentor. And to this day, Cydonia has kept true to her vow, having pushed past the old rebellious ways she learned to make money, and back to the cheerful wood crafter she was always meant to be. Overall, Cydonia's personality is kindhearted, sweet, and patient. Never one to hold a grudge against someone, she'll always help those in need, should they need food or shelter for the night, or a repair to their roof. Although behind the kindness, the young Hippogriff has a different side, a lonesome and hurt side, because no matter how much you forgive the taunting, it still hurts in the end. Her self worth has taken massive blows over the years, causing her bouts with sorrow and self pity. Arguments and fights tend to bring out another side in her, one of quiet fury, for as much as she wants to forget her old ways, now and again she feels the urge to step in and fight, where she has none, often becoming quite defensive if the subject involves her in the least. Her work on the other hoof, quells this, the small detailed designs give her a calm output for her nervous or angry energy. When the rains come, there's nothing Cydonia loves more than sitting out on her porch with a nice warm cup of lemon tea, just like her mother used to make. Despite loathing the heat of the desert, Cydonia does often miss her family, and plans to at least visit now and again, when she has the time. Additional Status: Poison Joke Reaction: Becomes jittery and impatient, causing her to be unable to work on delicate or intricate pieces.
  7. I thought this character up largely as a result of Firebolt's superhero RP idea proposed here. I've always loved superheros and thought I'd come up with something since none of my existing characters really fit. It was difficult keeping her at a point where she didn't seem overpowered or unworkable for the Mane RP. Tell me if I need to scale back even further. I'll see what I can do. Otherwise, I think she's complete. It was also difficult to try and streamline my app. I'm used to being pretty verbose with these things. I guess it's still even sort of long... Roleplay Type: Mane RP Name: Vivid Flair Sex: female Age: mare (late twenties equivalent) Species: hippogriff Eye colour: blue green; wears thin-framed glasses Coat colour: dark red Mane/Tail/Markings colour & Style: her plumage is a medium brown in colour. The feathers around the top and back of her head are quite long, giving the appearance of swept back mid-length hair style. Physique: size of an average pony. In good shape, though not in any immediately obvious way. Cutie Mark: An illuminated lightbulb. Origin/Residence: Born in Beakbreak City. Currently lives in Manehatten. Occupation: engineer for Northern Storm Industries, Manehatten Branch. Amateur superhero. Motivation: Make Equestria a better place for everypony, no matter who or what they are. Likes: machines/gadgetry, helping others, justice, spicy foods, thrills Dislikes: discrimination, unfairness, evil, having to deal with her bosses, boring things Character Summary: Parents: Vivid's father was a pegasus by the name of Noble Vigor, an esteemed knight of the Holy Order of the Destriers. He wasn't a very large part in Vivid's life; he spent most his time on the road, offering his knightly sword to those in need protecting Equestria. He did nevertheless leave a huge impact on Vivd. He would visit her a few times each year while she was a filly, and the stories of his exploits helped shape her fierce and dominant sense of justice. He was slain in battle with a monster just after Vivid entered marehood. Vivid's mother is a griffin by the name of Gudrun, still living in Beakbreak city, where she works as a metal worker. She is a spirited and fierce griffin, who further taught Vivid to live her life not caring what others think. They remain close. History: Vivid had a rough time growing up. She was a hippogriff and even in a city like Beakbreak, the line between ponies and griffins was still very apparent. She faced bullying that made her feel like an outcast from both sides. It was only two things that kept her smiling through the fierce and difficult times: the tales of her father, the Destrier knight putting his life on the line to protect Equestria, and her studies which she exceeded at. Vivid was a bookish hippogriff as a filly. She did remarkably well at school, and it was apparent to all her teachers she had an excellent young mind and knack for inventive solutions to problems. This materialized in a scholarship to Manehatten University, where she studied machine engineering. Upon graduation she got a job working at the Manehatten branch office of Northern Storm Industries, a machine parts company headquartered in Stalliongrad, as an engineer. She impressed everpony there as she offered up many ideas and inventions that would soon have her considered to be one of the top engineers working at NSI. Though she had come so far, Vivid felt like something was missing in her life. She was surely helping make Equestria a better place at NSI but it was in such an indirect way. The thoughts of her father fighting for Equestria with a sword in hoof came to her, which got the gears in her head working. After reading about crimes still being committed nearby, she got a crazy idea to become a little more direct herself. She wasn't going to go out with some sword or something similar, but she did have some tools at her disposal which she could use. Donning a protective white body suit, plated with some lightweight silvery armor, Vivid gathered some of devices she had made: goggles that let her see several times further in both light and dark, a device that can produce sudden blinding flashes of light, and a number of mechanical restraining devices that can be quickly employed. Using these devises she proclaimed herself The Noble Flare (a play off both her father's name and her own). She now spends her nights fighting crime or whatever other dangers she might find on the streets of Manehatten as a makeshift superhero. It's become a bit of an obsession of hers, and a lot of her time at NSI now goes into improving her costume and tools. Cutie Mark Story: The lightbulb symbolizes both her knack for invention and her brightness and intensity. She obtained it as a filly, after using some s**** metal and her mother's tools to put together a rather complicated design for a steam engine, which impressed the right ponies, helping her get her scholarship to Manehatten University. Personality/Flaws: Vivid Flare is assertive and opinionated. She however hates being wrong and while she tries to be ultimately fair, she's not above forming grudges. She has a vert strong sense of moral justice which informs most of her actions. She has no tolerance for any form of discrimination in particular, but is generally outspoken in her distaste for all she views as the evils of the world. She is ultimately a thrill seeker; she like putting herself in dangerous situations. As a result, while she might be called fearless, she'll often bite off more than she can chew. She grows bored easily. Monotony is not something she deals with well. Something always has to be happening. It's part of why she works in her field; it survives on coming up with new ideas. She's a bit obsessive. Whether it's her exploits as The Noble Flare or a project for work, she can become detrimentally engrossed in something to the point of shutting other things out. This can lead to her getting in some degree of trouble at work, something that can annoy her greatly. Physically, while Vivid has grown stronger since becoming The Noble Flare, she started out as a fairly weak, bookish hippogriff and is still not much stronger than an average pony. If her tools fail, she doesn't have a lot of raw powerl with which to rely on. Here's a pic of her courtesy of the very talented LovinMoonlight: (she's the one of the right, obviously. ) And here's yet another great pic by LM, this time of Vivid and her D&D group, dressed as their characters: (Vivid is the hippogriff, the one third from the left in the foreground. Dressed as her character, the knight Regalia Banneret)
  8. SO......As my character Holly was flirting with a griffon, this thought came to mind: Now, we all know it's not really possible for these two, but the IDEA is what I'm speaking of. Griffon+Pony=Hippogriff? For that matter.... Hippogriff+Pony=Pegasi? Or another hippogriff? Unicorn+Griffon=alicorn? (obviously not, I know they are forbade.) Hippocamp+Pony=...Kelpi? Pony? Hippocamp? Kelpi+Pony=Hippocamp? opinions, thoughs....answers? GO.
  9. Roleplay Type: The Mane RP Name: Nevermore Sex: Male Age: Nevermore has only just grown out of Colt status. Species: Hippogriff(Crow/Pony) Eye Color: White sclera, red iris. Coat Color: Black feathers, chocolate-coloured fur. Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: With his unusual Effect Dyes, Nevermore has applied a colour effect to himself: his feathers shimmer slightly, like the night sky. Nevermore's tail is long, smooth and well-kept, and as black as his feathers minus the effect. He also has tufts of this colour around his ankles. As for his mane, it's done up facing up and forward, and gives him a blade-shaped 'fin mohawk'. He's applied a dye-effect to that as well: a metallic, glossy effect, to make it look like an actual blade without it being so. Physique: Nevermore has a slightly feminine figure, with a thin waist and wide hips. He's muscular, but lean rather then buff. Cutie Mark: Nevermore's Cutie Mark takes the shape of a blotchy sphere, looking something like paint, divided into seven parts, each representing one colour of the rainbow. Origin/Residence: Nevermore originally hailed from the granite mountains far to the north. He now pretty much wanders around these days, looking for a suitable place to move into. Occupation: Nevermore is an artist. Using the expertise in colour, and the application thereof, he makes paintings, or decorates rooms and stuff like that. He's also branched out into the world of dyes, and is thinking of adding that to his overall resume. Motivation: Nevermore's greatest motivation is to add colour to the world he lives in. Vibrant, lively colour! He also talks big about 'the colour of truth', something he believes can only manifest when one's heart is free of deceit and lies... Likes: Colour, honesty, ice-cream, chicken Dislikes: Grey things, deceit, shrimp Character Summary: Nevermore always stood out, even among his fellow Crow Hippogriffs. He loathed the drab, colourless mountains in which he lived, and long dreamed of colour. Vibrant, lively colour. It was over this very issue that he eventually left the mountains, no longer being able to stand his home and his fellows. As such, he moved down the mountains when he was but a Colt, heading toward Equestria, which he'd heard was a realm of vibrant colour. The reason for Nevermore's obsession with colour was discovered later: he has a natural inclination toward the colourful, the vivid and the bright, a rarity among Crow Hippogriffs, and the desire to apply this to the world around him. In addition, he has an unusually keen eye for these things, allowing him an easy time at colour-coordinating for his friends, and letting him recognise applied dyes in an instant: they stick out like a sore thumb to his eyes. Creatures with this ability tend to have an innate aversion to the colourless and drab, which Nevermore learned quickly. As he practiced his artistry and made paintings, he soon learned to abhor the colour grey, as, to him, it stands for a true absence of colour, a monument to drabness. Over time, he became more proficient with his ability, and began to experiment with dyes and other such agents, intending to add colour to the ponies he meets as well, should they ask him to. In addition to Colour Dyes, he's also come up with Effect Dyes, which add a layer of fanciness to what it's applied to, from a gloss varnish to a metallic sheen and anything in-between. He often experiments on himself with these dyes, both Colour and Effect, to be sure something works the way it should, for safety's sake. His most recent project, still in development, is Clear Dye, an agent that removes and cancels the effects of Colour Dyes and Effect Dyes. Despite his intimidating, darkly-coloured appearance, Nevermore's actually rather gentle and friendly. He speaks with a deep voice, and has something of a habit of referring to people by 'titles' that fit who they are and what they look like. Most are genuinely kind, while others have a more snarky undertone to them. He rarely raises his voice, and his laid-back demeanor makes him easy to approach. The only thing he really gets excited about is his work: he gets passionate about the virtues of colour, and the things a good colour scheme intones about the person it's applied to. He also regards any female of any species he meets with warm praise, something he does simply out of politeness: he was taught, from an early age on, to respect the opposite gender. He doesn't really like to talk about the situation back home, but, when pressed, is quick to reveal that he 'lived in a world where nobody understood his passion'. Crow Hippogriffs, as he states it, are a lot who prefer drab, dark colours, and live boring, cold lives. He may have left, but one day, he intends to return, bringing the Colour of Truth with him to dazzle them all. When asked about this 'Colour of Truth' that he seeks, he'll proclaim that he doesn't understand it that well himself: it was a vision that came to him in a dream, proclaiming that 'truth and colour are not that diffrent'. Since then, he's figured that the truth, whatever it is, must have an absolutely amazing colour that can only be seen by those who live their lives honestly. He'd also remark that he got his Cutie Mark shortly after he had said vision, possibly as a way to reinforce his commitment to its discovery...
