  1. From the album: MLP Characters

Obviously not a MLP character, but I'm putting it in this album because I want it to go with everything else, nyah ha. Theme image for the Eastern banner, with a nameless Qilin welcoming all to explore the lands of Long Guo, Neighpon, Polyneighsia, and Hesperia. I actually like how the design for this random Qilin came about - maybe she'll go up for adoption in the future, it'd be a shame to have her around only until a new banner replaces her.
  2. From the album: MLP Characters

This one was easier than the GGG background, mostly because the shapes used are more vague and less defined. Inspired by the Guilin Mountains in China, though I really didn't do them any justice! (Because seriously, look at those mountains. So, majestic.)
  3. There he is, the stallion himself! This will be the hub thread for Prince Blueblood, the character, and all his eventual players! Currently, I'm the only player for everypony's favorite Prince here on the boards. Not sure how soon that'll change. Anyhow, thought I'd give a brief rundown on how I play him. First off, I take him to be the direct lineal descendent of Princess Platinum, inheriting royal status that way. He says he's the fifty-fourth Prince to go by that name, though it is entirely likely that his ancestors padded the numbers. If you're an upper-class unicorn, or connected with that world, he at least knows your name, and his family tree probably touches branches with yours at some point. Personality-wise, he is, of course, extremely vain about his looks, and is by instinct a little bit of a snob, though he has been working hard on getting better, really! It's just... he doesn't often have patience for common (and commoner) foibles. Not that he has all that better of an opinion of the lesser nobility. In fact, he's pretty much had to get over looking down on all non-royals, and it's been a bit of an adjustment process, to say the least. Unpromising adventuring stock though he is, he's also been involved in quite a few jaunts, journeys, and... hm, can't think of a good third J word. Anyhow! That's how he's made his first few real friends, and if you're a sailor like himself, chances are you'll get a chance to see his best side. There's been a lot of developments that have happened to him over the course of my RP's with him, but the most recently relevant one would probably be this: Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you. Thanks to a magical accident on the part of Twilight Sparkle, Princess Bluebelle is now also a thing! If you're at all interested in playing with the Best Prince(ss) on the boards, or have a few comments/ideas you want to throw my way, just let me know below.
  4. I'd started thinking about doing a Scooby do-esque role play involving a ghost ship, when I realized I know very little about ponies and their naval history, or if they even have much in the way of sea travel. Ponies do not fish, to my knowledge. I mean, why would they (beyond sport)? Unless there were some kind of fish that shed scales for fashion, or jellyfish that could be milked for jelly or something, they would never eat fish, so it would really limit their reasons to develop a lot of nautical technology. Not that they don't have it, obviously. Ships and shipping in ports is already something going on. But would they have a navy? Would they want or need one? Is anyone aware of/made any sort of seafaring ponies? (I'm sure there's some episode I'm forgetting) I don't know, just sort of spinning this topic to see others knowledge and opinion.
  5. The northern reaches of Equestria holds many questions for all. A vast expanse of frozen tundra, ravaged by howling winds, deathly cold, and dark, jagged shadows have turned many explorers and would-be adventurers away. Those that set foot too far into the north simply became a part of it, to never be heard from again. For the last thousand years many mysteries lay beneath the deep snow, behind the jagged mountain tops that served to separate the land of ice from the rest of the world. Until now. A new chapter for the North has begun, the Crystal Empire, recently rediscovered and saved from the clutches of King Sombra- once again shines as the gem of the North! Recent cooperative efforts between Equestria and the Crystal Empire have made great galloping strides in returning the ancient city to its former glory. As legends have it, The Crystal Empire once spanned a distance larger than Equestria's borders today- but most of the Empire and its lands still lay in deep slumber beneath a deep coat of frozen snow. Only the central city, also known as Crystal Spire remains. It is said that wendigos, dragons, and worse still lurk the frozen wastes that once belonged to the Crystal Empire; perhaps hidden amongst those wastes are safe havens to be found where the original three pony tribes once passed through. There is much to do- knowing this, Princess Cadence and Shining Armor have taken it upon themselves to help restore the Empire to its former glory, and to bring warmth back to the homeland of the Crystal Ponies! Since the events leading to King Sombra's defeat and the reactivation of the Crystal Heart, trade has sprung up between Equestria's Capital, Canterlot, and the Crystal Palace, bringing in much needed resources and traffic to the isolated city. To aid this effort, a high-speed railroad has been constructed through the northern mountains that separate the borders of Equestria and the Crystal Empire- cutting what would be weeks of travel time into a day-long trip. For the first time in a thousand years- the Crystal Empire is open to everypony! Adventurers, traders, and ponies empathetic to help are all making their way to the Crystal Empire to find their place in this exciting new frontier! Locations: The Crystal Gates- The gates into the Crystal Empire, one of the empire's most unique and important features. The Crystal Plaza - The Central Crystal Plaza and the podium at its core where the precious Crystal Heart is kept. The Crystal Markets - The Crystal Empire's Market District is one of the busiest and most important places to know. The Crystal Palace - The home of Cadence and Shining Armor. The Crystal Empire Farm District - Homeland to the cute little ewes, and fertile farmlands of the Crystal Empire. The Crystal Empire Arts District- An entire district dedicated to the artistic talents of the Crystal Ponies. The Crystal Empire Residential District - Where all the crystal ponies make their homes. Map of the Crystal Empire:

    Weather Ponies

Here's a bit on how I think the weather works in Equestria; feel free to comment if you feel like something doesn't quite fit with canon or if your ideas differ greatly from my own. I figure that managing the weather for a gigantic nation like Equestria is no easy task. It's probably a huge operation composed of many teams and departments, and it's mostly government funded. The centre of these operations is Cloudsdale, though Canterlot has some say in the operations as well. First of all, the Pegasi don't have to control the weather. In Aquellia, for example, the weather is left to its own devices as it is in the Everfree Forest. The clouds do form naturally and move at will. But the Pegasi can control the weather due to ancient magic and have been doing so since the days of the three tribes. It started out that they just pushed the naturally-formed clouds around, but they later developed methods to create the clouds themselves. Sometimes being a weather pony involves collecting and arranging clouds to form showers, but a lot of the time, it also involves clearing the clouds. Sometimes these clouds were made in Cloudsdale and have just escaped the storerooms, but a lot of the time these are stray natural clouds that have formed and cause problems. Pegasi have access to magic of their own: the magic that allows them to fly, for example, also affects the weather. They can use this magic to slow or speed up winds, raise and lower the temperature of the air, and cause or prevent thunderstorms, hurricanes and tornados. Because the forces of the weather can be dangerous, there are various levels of teams involved in the management of the weather. At the top, you have the meteorological engineers. These are Pegasi who are highly skilled in weather magic as a result of having a university degree in the study of the creation and formation of meteorological phenomena; both how it works naturally as well as what Pegasi can do to modify these natural behaviours. My OC, Whirligig, dreams of one day becoming a meteorological engineer. And then you have the various teams beneath them; field weather ponies. A university degree is not required to be a field weather pony, but an apprenticeship is. If the meteorological engineers are the architects and designers of the weather, these guys are the carpenters, electricians and other manual tradesponies who make the weather happen. They are often broken into teams and sent to towns all across Equestria. Each team has a supervisor who makes sure everything runs smoothly, as well as five or six ponies who form the team itself, though the size of the team varies based on demand. Ponyville's weather team is supervised by Rainbow Dash, but there are other Pegasi underneath her who also help out, as seen in look before you sleep and Hurricane Fluttershy. My OC Stormwing is a field weather pony for the town of Trottingham. Then you have the weather factory and its workers (as well as various levels of management within the factory. Obviously there are going to be some Metorological Engineers overseeing operations here as well, and then department managers and quality control). A lot of Equestria's weather starts life in the factory. Here clouds of all types are made in addition to Rainbows, Snowflakes and electrical systems. There is also a great deal of testing and research done in the factory in close association with the University of Cloudsdale. This research includes the formation and operation of tornados, as well as the containment of storm systems. In between the factory and the field teams, there are also delivery ponies who work with the factory. These are teams of Pegasi who 'carry' the weather systems created in Cloudsdale to all the towns in Equestria. Clouds are usually corralled and transported that way, with special measures taken when it comes to electrically active clouds. Rainbows are tinned and carried in this manner. When a rainbow is to be used, a field weather pony has only to open the can and pour the liquid rainbow across the sky. The story of Snowdrop fits in nicely - snow began life in the same way rain did. It wasn't until Snowdrop came along that hoof-made snowflakes were introduced to Equestria. Clouds are made in the usual manner, then infused with hoof-made snowflakes before being sent out to the rest of Equestria. I'm still trying to work on my wind theories. I've read a few fanfics where there was a tornado creation section in the weather factory, but Hurricane Fluttershy suggests that Tornados can easily be made in the field with a lot of wing power. I'm thinking maybe tornados are made in the factory and then, like rainbows, somehow transported to the rest of Equestria when needed. I don't think they'd be needed often though, except maybe to assist with moving water when ponies aren't keen on breaking records by doing it the old-fashioned way. Obviously the use of more dangerous elements would be heavily monitored. Cloudsdale itself doesn't have weather systems the same way the rest of Equestria does. They don't have gardens so they don't need precipitation the same way, so they like keeping their clouds in tact (I figure a lot of rain in Cloudsdale would damage the clouds the city is made out of. Cloudsdale does have its own team of weather ponies, but their sole responsibility is keeping the stray clouds out of the city.) Anyways, I just felt like sharing this. I'm not trying to create lore for the WoE, and I don't expect everypony to agree with me on this, but this system will probably be referenced by OCs in some of my RP posts. - Jane
  7. The winds of destiny blow through two worlds, connected by the past, connected by the hearts that reside in both... [Equestrian] The story begins with Black Moon's arrival on a distant, ancient mountain residing outside of Canterlot, where he was told to arrive to obtain his orders by the Empress's daughter, Princess Floweressa, a full-blown Night Child. After arriving on the mountain-top, two Nightingales sacrificed themselves and brought the crystal to life, allowing Black Moon and Floweressa to converse on opposite sides of the dimensional barrier between Coltara and Equestria. Having been given his orders to weaken Equestria by any means necessary, he now begins his plotting to bring down the peaceful nation from the inside...and the Forerunners were born. After the fourth brutal beating of a noble in Canterlot, captain of the Royal Guard, Shining Armor, found a mysterious note at the crime scene. Having his hopes raised for the first time in weeks, he had to note taken to be analyzed. With that, he left to explain the Celestia his suspicions of the recent violence in Canterlot, and also explain about the note he had found. [Coltaran] It begins with Silvan Dragoran, Prince of Ravens and son of the Empress Tulipia, visiting the mining/militaristic city-state of Coltan's Rest for inspection. With the increasing rates in crime, death, rape, and other non-desirable events, Silvan has taken upon himself to discover what is happening, and who is behind it. With his oldest and most trusted servant and guard, Silvertongue, beside him, he has traveled to the graveyard outside of the city, to visit an odd stallion by the name of Gallows Gale, who is said to be able to communicate with the spirits of the dead. Is this Silvan's chance to find out what has been happening? After speaking with the mysterious (and odd) Gallows Gale, Silvan was shown a special sort of Ro'Maga, that allowed communication with the dead. However, there was a price for doing so, but Gallows did not know of it. After convincing Gallows to join him on his journey, Silvan and his new companion, along with Silvertongue, his loyal guard, left the hills surrounding Coltan's Rest and went to the mountains in the east, heading for their next destination.
  8. You awaken to find yourself in a dark hallway, surrounded by gray walls and with no other way to go except forward. There is a icyness that embraces your body and soul, one that seems to have been there for days. As you continue down the bleak corridor, you begin to see a bright light to guide you from the darkness. You move closer and closer, picking up the pace as the light grew and warmth began to flow into your body. Finally, you reach the end of the hallway and into the light, only to find yourself in a large, circular library. At the center, you see two comfortable red linen chairs next to a fireplace. Suddenly, you hear a voice in your head and the room surrounding you. "Ah...you have finally arrived, I see. Please...please sit down. We have much to discuss, you and I." You do not know who was talking, but you decide to do as the voice said, since you had nowhere to go anyway. You make your way for the chair and sit down, sinking into its warm embrace. After a couple of moments, a eerie form appears from the fireplace, slowly transforming into a human-like shape. You watch, transfixed, as a figure is made, and the form becomes a fully physical being. In front of you stood a rather tall humanoid, wearing soft-looking white clothing, and a large wide-brimmed silver hat on its head. Its beard flows down its chest like a translucent stream of mercury, and its skin as dark as coal. You realize that the being before you is a male, and watch him with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. He gives you a disarming smile to set you at ease, and sits down himself after setting aside a glorious crystalline scepter. After a few quiet moments, he finally begins to speak. "I am glad you made it...many do not know how to reach this sanctuary of mine. Oh, but where are my manners...? My name is Azrial. Azrial, the Weaver. As for why you are here, and who I am, I will explain shortly. Right now, you are in a transference between lives, and so I must prepare you for what you will see. Tell me...do you remember Kaltara?" You shake your head, wondering why he asked such a question. Azrial chuckled to himself, nodding. "Yes...I assumed as much. Of course, I cannot blame you, for it is a land of great mystery and beauty that so few outside of it will ever see. Now, for some answers that will ease your troubled mind. The reason you are here, is because you are dead. You have passed on from your previous life, and are now moving on to the next. Do not be alarmed, for this happens to every creature who dies. Who I am...it is a complicated story, and one I will tell you if you request it." You nod a bit shakily, for you have been caught off-guard by the revelation that you are dead, and now wish to know what this mysterious creature had to say. Azrial's hand glowed with a soft white light, as a small book flew over to him and settled on his lap. However, he did not open it; he did not have to in order to tell this story. "I was born into the world long ago, when it was barbaric and young. Back then, there was almost no sentient life, and everything was made by the seven primal energies of the world. It was created by the same being who created me, Pharaxmas. He gave me, and my five other siblings life. Underneath him, we grew and grew, until it was time to perfect the world we were put on. My father, brothers, sisters, and I each represented the elements that fueled the earth, and thus used our natural talents to create much of what you'll see in this world today. This creation went on for seven days, until we had created the start of a perfect world. Phoebus, at the end of the creation, said that we must make a few more things in order for life to flourish...and they were the races of mortal kind.. Each of us put our own power and that of the world into these new life forms, so that they would keep everything balanced. My brother Regriel created the Orcs, Kazziel the Elves. My sisters also made their own races; Lenariel forged the Baraki, Tavriel the Dwarves, and Sabriel the Hikarri with some aid from me. Then at last, I created my own race...the one which you would know as Mankind; humanity. On their completion, life began to swell across the globe, and we had finally finished what we were made to do." You sat in silence during the whole speech, taking in the words Azrial had spoken, a flurry of questions swirling inside your head. Azrial took in a deep breath, and sighed. "...While we were the parents of a whole new world, my siblings and I simply weren't satisfied. Our father, Pharaxmas, disappeared shortly after the Creation, and we did not know what to do with ourselves. Eventually, we decided to have children of our own. Taking pieces of ourselves and copying them, we created several creatures whom embodied our spirits. Regriel created the dragons, Sabriel created the sea serpents, Kazziel created the griffons, Tavriel created a golem of nature, Lenariel created the dire wolves, and I created the Nephilar. While my siblings created their children in massive numbers, I only made three...for three were all that I needed. Their names were Miralla, Daellar, and Caltir, and I loved them more than anything else in the world. Each of them bore pieces of myself; Miralla had my heart, Daellar my mind, and Caltir obtained my spirit. Unfortunately, none of those forementioned children exist anymore...they were wiped out after the first Cataclysm." You looked at Azrial with an incredulous expression. Based on what he explained, you determined that he was a God of some sort; was he your God? What race were you? You could not determine whether to believe him or not, so you concluded to keep listening. Azrial gives you a knowing glance, a slight smirk on his lips, and he began again. "As with all great things...they all must come to an end. My time on that world was coming to a close, and I would soon have to say farewell to all of my children. My other siblings and I were being drained of our life energies in order to sustain the world; in order to prevent our demise, we created a new source of energy for the world to use: the Ascending Lights. However, the damage done was irreversible, and one by one we faded from the living world until I was the only one remaining. With my last breaths, I realized the Lights would need a guardian, or else they would be used wrongly, and so I left the knowledge of the Ascending Lights to my sons and daughter, so that they would keep guard over them after I died. Not only did they take up the mantel of protecting the Lights...but they also took up the mantels of leaders. During their reign, the humans I created grew to incredible sizes in population, and my children served them all as kings and queen. In Kaltara, where this all began, it was known as the Age of Creation, and rightfully so. Each of my children began to resent each other, until they finally showed outright hatred. My middle child, Daellar, was perhaps the worst among them for this. He hated his sister Miralla, and his hatred soon led to the first war on the face of Kaltara. Uniting his kingdom of Rai'zan, he invaded Havara, my daughter's kingdom, in order to obtain its wealth. The horrible fighting continued for five years, until on the war's fifth anniversary, my daughter's army and people vanished. When Daellar discovered this, he rushed his forces all the way to Havara's capital, Ximara. Upon arriving, they found Miralla as the glorious city's only inhabitant. Out of the anger and spite he had for her, Daellar ordered her capture...and execution. Before her death, however, she said she had sent her two heirs over the Skywall Mountains into the lands beyond, and hoped that one day they will return for what is theirs by birthright. Even I am uncertain who these two children are...but if I were to guess, they'd be a powerful couple of demi-gods." Azrial laughed to himself at the last statement, but there was a deep sorrow within his eyes. You drew several conclusions as to who these grandchildren were, but kept them to yourself. Azrial set the book he had aside and gazed intently at you before speaking once more. "That is the end to my story...but the beginning of a whole other story. After the death of my daughter, Kaltara went through a great change, and has been through more suffering than many other lands would ever feel. My son Daellar enjoyed the wealth he obtained from Havara for a long while, but by then his hatred for his brother Caltir resurfaced as well. Then, Rai'zan and Sanguire broke out into a war with one another as well. In this battle, magic was forged into weaponry...and became one of the most brutal conflicts in existence. Daellar, in the hopes of swiftly defeating Caltir, searched for the Ascending Lights. For centuries, he wondered, while Caltir refused to use the Lights, honoring my wishes. Eventually, Daellar found the artifacts that I helped create...and tried to use them to wipe Sanguir off the map. Of course, he did not know of the trap that was set to trigger on activation of such dangerous magic. The Lights tried to reverse the magic, to shut themselves off. To my despair...my son fought with their power, and in the end causing his own death, and the deaths of many others. A powerful explosion went off from the battle of wills, and it left the whole world shaking from the disaster. It set off a cataclysm of apocalyptic proportions, changing the landscape in Kaltara and beyond forever. Out of the ashes, several city-states and small nations appeared, and began fighting over the land that the kingdoms of Rai'zan and Sanguir used to possess. For one hundred years, they fought among themselves...while an even darker threat loomed. The explosion that was created formed a large crater and pit, and deep within these holes, evil creatures started to manifest, monsters of nightmare and horror. Apparently, the magic in that part of the land had become tainted, and the very elements themselves started to become twisted. Like a swarm of locusts, the monsters climbed out of this place, now refered to as the Bleakness, and devoured the land. The weaker nations close to the Bleakness were destroyed in a manner of days, and the stronger ones on the verge of collapse; all hope seemed lost. However, out of the darkness came a small light, created by the Mage known as Tyre. After witnessing the destruction these evil creatures caused, he gathered the strongest Mages and Sages in all of Kaltara, and united the remaining nations together under a single banner, forming the Covenant of Ten. United, this war coalition punched through the disorganized creatures, pushing back the monstrous horde and regaining the lands that were lost. After many years of fighting, they finally arrived upon the doorstep of the insidious Pit of Nightmares, located in the center of the Bleakness. Tyre and six of his strongest Mages went alone into the Darkness, and met face to face with the worst creature of all: My son, Daellar, now refered to as Sharlan the Specter by mortals everywhere. He had been forever transformed, both in body and soul. Together, Tyre and his allies defeated the Specter, and imprisoned him beneath the Pit of Nightmares with the Ascending Lights. On returning back to the heartland of Kaltara, Tyre gathered the greatest minds and warriors in Kaltara to form the Wardens of the Seals, an organization whose sole duty was to prevent the release of Sharlan, and to be ready for when he eventually breaks free from his prison." When Azrial was finished, he summoned a book over to the table in front of you, labeled: "The Stygian War". You stare at it curiously, then at Azrial, who nodded in the direction of the book. You pick it up, and begin to read the words inside... "...in the year ---- Kaltaran society was at its highest state in several thousand years. It was a time of invention, science, and ingenuity. Populations and technological advances seemed to increase every day, and everything seemed right with their world, or so it would seem. The Wardens at this time became primarily a collection of world leaders who were great Mages and Sages, using their power and wisdom to guide the inhabitants in peace and prosperity. However, they had forgotten entirely the horrors of the Specter and his monstrous hordes, and this ignorance of their very birth led to their destruction. In search of a new source of power greater than that which the Ascending Lights provided, a pair of Wardens created a great magical drill to mine the font of magic...they were too late to discover that the power was that of the Specter, and that they had just opened his tomb. Out from the Breach, as it was soon called, poured the Nightspawn of the past and the Bleakness along with it. It was during this time that the first Nightchildren began to arise...along with thirteen of the world's greatest Wardens, who later became known as the Heartless. What followed was a great conflict known as the Stygian War, which decimated the mortal realm and finally ended when Silvan Stargazer, leader of the forces of Light and the Wardens, led a team of skilled Mages into the Breach in order to seal the Specter and his minions away once more. As is known, Silvan (known as the Lightbinder), successfully banished the Specter to his prison, along with the Heartless...but the seal was imperfect, and came with seven seals of which had been lost to the flows of time. As retaliation for his imprisonment, the Specter placed his wicked taint on the Ascending Light of Astral magic...and drove the Mages of the world insane. Silvan and his companions who went to the Breach were the first to succumb to the madness of the taint, and eventually all of the practicing Mages fell. In their insanity, the Mages used their power to create mountains from plains, seas from deserts, annihilate entire cities...this Mage Cataclysm went on for nearly one hundred years until the death of the last Mage. The event later became known as 'Silvan's Folly', and prevented his ascendence to Saintdom. The inter-year period of the Cataclysm is disorganized, and few facts are known on this matter; thus, this tome is incomplete." You close the book after reading the summary, and you begin to look at Azrial with a new sense of dread. However, more questions kept going through your mind: 'Why is he showing me this?' 'What does he want with me?' 'How does this have anything to do with me?'. You ask the first question, and he smiled gently. "Well, it is because I do believe you will be connected to Kaltara's salvation through fate, young one. You see...I can see the strings of destiny tied onto you. However, I cannot say in what way you are connected to it all. Also, I am unsure as to whether you will be born in the time of need once more, or afterwards. Although, I will say this: you are linked to far more than you believe...and you may be the one to prevent the world's destruction. One question you may ask is 'Why me?"...well, I cannot answer that, for I do not control the tides of destiny, I just connect them as I see fit. There is one more book you need to read...one that is as important as the other." Another book drifted over to the table, resting on top of the previous one. The title was in a fancy form of writing, and said "The History of the Dragoran Empire". You pick it up and begin to read the first chapter. "...Before our glorious empire was created, Kaltara was in a state of conflict. Civil wars, bloody successions, and petty national rivalries divided the land, with Lumen'dor being the only sanctuary from the fighting. Despite the chaos, one nation still flourished. Located on the western shore of Kaltara, our great mother kingdom of Dragora grew from the land that used to belong to the mythical Rai'zan of old. A new king had been raised, one with the ambition to unite the world under one ruler. We know him as the First Emperor, but he was known back then as Ashmire Drake. Once a simple peasant, he was chosen by fate to rise to power and lead the Dragoran nation to glory. Among us, he was courageous, kind, and selfless, while his enemies knew him to be crafty, strong, and ruthless. For years he amassed his armies, waiting for the right time to begin his impending invasion. With his allies at his back, he conquered many of the nations to the east with ease by using either force or persuasion. By the end of his conquests, nearly all of Kaltara belonged to him, and he was crowned High King. It was then that he turned his attention onto Lumen'dor, last bastion of the Wardens. Growing up to have severe distrust in anything that has to do with magic, he knew he had to destroy the Wardens if he was to make the land perfect. The siege lasted ten years until his death from a crippling poison. Seeking vengeance for the death of his father, the eldest of Ashmire's sons, Beryllan, led a final assault against Lumen'dor and broke through the enchanted walls. Once inside, the treacherous Wardens were slaughtered until the Archwarden at the time, the Lady Aerysia, surrendered and was executed for the use of forbidden Astral magic and the crime of slaying Ashmire Drake. Once Lumen'dor was torn to the ground, Beryllan returned to the mountain stronghold of Ashen Gate and named himself Emperor of Kaltara. At the end of his reign, each speck of land was under Imperial rule." You place the book down, somehow knowing that it was all you needed to read, and you look up to see Azrial with his back turned toward you, gazing intently into the unnatural fire. "...so now you know what you must know. I have given this information to you so that you can forge your own destiny. In Kaltara's current era, Mages are suppressed and controlled...they are despised for their natural affinity to magic, and they struggle to prevent any magical contact so that they could live. It is truly a miserable time...but perhaps you, or someone like you, can fix it." Azrial turns to you and gazes deep into your eyes. You could feel him penetrating to the very depths of your spirit, reading it. After a moment, Azrial nodded and smiled. "I see now that I made the right choice. Go, now...go and become a part of the world once more. I will be watching, and guiding, you and all that are like you." You'd feel yourself get lighter and lighter, your vision slowly turning dark, and as you begin to return to the living world you hear Azrial's final whisper resound in your mind countless times: "...do not forget who you are, or who you will be, Child of Fate. Whether you be of the Darkness or the Light, know this; that there is never an end...only another beginning." It is with those last few words that you feel yourself fade away entirely, enveloped in a wet warmth. A light shines in your vision, leading the way out of the tunnel of darkness in which you had laid in.You feel yourself dragged out into the world once more...the only sounds reaching your ears being that of your very own cries as the light welcomes you into your new life.
  9. I’ve been noticing quite a number of ponies have been running into trouble with their RPs because of their OC character belongs to a organization and to get said organization approved for lore takes a lot of red tape. Let’s say for the sake of argument, I have an app for an OC character called Big Top, his occupation is that of a circus owner. From here 2 things can happen: I write the lore for his circus. After a week or so of squeezing the creative juices for an initial draft and a month of debate and haggling over the minor details with and within the admin team; the Equestrian version of the Cirque du Soleil is formally introduced to Canterlot.com with open recruitment for anyone who wants to be part of the circus (similar to the Wonderbolts and Shadowbolts) OR I scale down his operations so he’s more of a traveling sideshow operator with about 5 acts that are all pretty much offscreen or NPC characters, and hopefully he can pass application assessment more easily. The point is I’m proposing a truce, the RPers can have their OC character belong to some organization that, while is not what they initially envisioned, still fits their character and the mods don’t have to be stuck between shooting down another’s ideas or the work of effecting QC on the lore so it fits into board canon.
  10. Some of you may have noticed a new section pop up in the Mane Equestria section. This area has a special purpose. Even though it's in the Roleplay Forum itself, it's not actually a Roleplay area. Many of you have had questions or ideas about how to expand the world of Equestria as a roleplay, but until now it's been somewhat scattered and difficult to pin down. Well, the Princesses have decided to open up the Royal Archives for public access! Though submissions must be made to and reviewed by their loyal staff (Simply make a post in the Questions and Suggestions and Private Message the staff) if you have anything you would like to add to it! It's still somewhat under construction, but we'll do our best to provide you with all the information we think you will find useful and interesting about the world of Equestria as it's been established in the Roleplay. This lore is specifically for the Mane Roleplay Equestria, though elements of it can be used in other roleplay areas. This is also where you're going to find answers to some of your most deep and burning questions. Want to know just howadvanced the technology is in Equestria? Want to know about Electricity? Have an idea of where Parasprites come from, and local cures for that pesky Pruney Hoof? It will end up here! Roleplay elements that may be useful for other players as they have established Equestria will appear. As we work out the components of Equestria as it's been established, it will be up to you users to bring things to the staff for consideration. We can't do it without you! You can find the Royal Archives Here. Please mind the dust!
  11. Hippocamps: (Art by community artist MudBug) Ocean based ponies. Bottom half of their body is a marine animal tail, Usually a dolphin or some sort of generic whale. Rare cases are narwhals, where the tusk/horn grows from the center of the pony's skull, like a Unicorn, not their base of magical power. All hippocamps have some sort of small magical ability retaining to water. All hippocamps have very little magical abilities. Most are simply tricks they developed to scare away sailors and pirates from their underwater villages. Usually involve some sort of bubble manipulation, from putting voices inside the bubbles to pop at the surface and scare away sailors, or heating the water to make a sudden bank of fog to make sailors lose their way. In extreme cases a group of hippocamps get together and create a huge pocket of bubbles which causes the water to become mostly air, sinking whole ships in minutes. They are not the cause of whirlpools however - those are naturally occurring. Hippocamps are vegitarian/herbivores - they eat aquatic plants and the occasional land plant delicacy. Hippocamps are also able to be on land for small amounts of time - usually one to two hours. After that they need to find some sort of moisture to hydrate themselves or their pelt starts to dry up, becoming very easy to injure. Think of a bad sunburn. If it's raining or foggy, or even very humid, Hippocamps can stay on land for longer periods of time for their pelt doesn't dry out too fast. Hippocamps can also easily switch from air to water breathing. Very adaptable in that sense. Hippocamps can live in oceans, rivers, and inland lakes. They are never found in a lake that does not have some sort of river system that connects to the ocean. Hippocamps are naturally ocean-dwelling creatures and only migrate inland either by accident or on purpose. Hippocamps need to migrate back to the sea upon winter for they cannot survive in very cold environments. Hippocamps usually live in pods in villages dotting the ocean, or migrate to the large hippocamp/kelpie underwater city by Gallapocous Island. Hippocamps tend to be naturally enamored by shiny trinkets and baubles. Most just collect shiny things off the ocean floor - city hippocamps become very vain and tend to hoard shiny things, specially jewelry and house ornaments. They are also, in the rich sector, obsessed with always being beautiful and elegant. The middle to poor class are along the same lines as normal land ponies - living together, having a family, ect. Think of it as Rich - Manehattan, Mid/poor - Ponyville. City hippocamps get along well with land ponies, while ocean hippocamps tend to be more shy, taking a while to fully trust land ponies. Once they do they make lasting friendships with land ponies. Kelpies: (Art by community artist MudBug) Ocean based ponies. Bottom half of their body is a marine creature, generally some type of shark. Kelpies have very little magical ability and tend to rely on their natural instincts. The most kind of magic a Kelpie can muster is being able to find food in any kind of situation, no matter how dire. They are very hardy and can live in nearly every kind of aquatic environment, even marshes. Kelpies can also survive on land just the same way a hippocamp can - albeit it's a bit difficult for them to manouver around due to their horizontal spines. Kelpies are carnivores/omnivores. They will always prefer meat, and usually eat aquatic animals/fish. They never eat hippocamps however - too similar to themselves. Kelpies are mischevious by nature, and tend to get into trouble in large groups. Their natural instinct makes them pick on each other, so it's difficult for them to live in large groups. The largest group of them live in the underwater city near the Gallapocous Island - that sector of the city is often in chaos. Kelpies get along well with land ponies no matter where they are, despite the large differences between them. Land ponies often are intimidated by the kelpie's mischievous attitude and mouthful of sharp teeth. Once they get to know them and get accustomed to their nature, they often get along easily. Kelpies don't have a specific affinity towards any object or animal. They do enjoy teasing the local fauna whereever they live. Kelpies are very stong and tough, and can even out-muscle/manouver a hydra out of it's territory, or subdue it if it's acting up.
