  1. When most ponies hear the word 'necromancer', they think of somepony who wears a black cloak, mutters menacing chants, and raises an army of shambling corpses to do their bidding and menace rural communities. While I must regrettably admit that each of these cliches have some kernel of truth, to describe necromancy in such a way is to present a highly misleading view of it. It would be like describing pegasi as ponies that control the weather. It's significant, and not inaccurate, but not really a proper description. Necromancy is essentially the magic of the dead. This may seem obvious, but it bears stating. Interacting with the dead, via magic, is not limited to being some callous means of acquiring minions. Indeed, trying to use the dead as servants is one of the least efficient tools of a necromancer. Before one can begin exploring necromancy however, one needs at least a rudimentary understanding of spirits. Spirits are, in essence, beings of almost pure emotion, left behind when a conscious creature passes on in an agitated state. However underneath that simple description lies a surprising range and complexity. Emotion in this case proves to be a loose concept, as although it does apply to primal moods such as rage or sorrow, I have personally encountered spirits driven by duty, loyalty, guilt, even confusion, and more. Any set of circumstances in which a creature passes can create one, however it is typically only during a significant event or when the creature has a powerful need or drive that the resulting spirit will have any serious strength or be able to maintain itself for a serious length of time. The most basic skill for a necromancer is that of speech. But despite it's relative simplicity, speaking to the dead is one of the most useful skills such a person can learn. Spirits being the emotion-driven beings that they are, resolving a haunting is often as simple as deciphering what that spirit is trying to say. The more reliable, or those whose emotion coincide with the speaker's goals, are often willing to grant favours, particularly in exchange for help with their own concerns. I have even taken on a few as travelling companions, then they prove willing to assist me in my own duties. What is arguably the second most important skill a necromancer should learn is that of banishing. In an ideal world, all spirits would be friendly and helpful. In a slightly less ideal one, all hostile spirits could be sent on their way after merely speaking to them, and learning what makes them suffer. This is neither of those worlds, and a method of forcible exorcism is something every necromancer should have as a precaution. The methods used and means to accomplish them vary wildly between different traditions. One could force a calm state on an inconsolable state, seal their ability to influence the material plane, or even modifying the most intense memories. The various methods will be covered in more detail in a later chapter. For those not content with the help or insight which can be found by speaking to spirits alone, there is another option. With proper preparation, spirits can be invited into one's body, allowing a pony to 'borrow' the abilities of a sufficiently willing spirit, or a spirit can be given a more direct way to affect the real world. Seances are a commonly known example of the latter. One must ensure that the spirit is benevolent however, or insure against misuse of one's physical form, as inviting a spirit in can be very dangerous for the unwary. It is possible to provide a physical form to a spirit other than one's own, and this can be useful for containing a rogue spirit as well as the other, previously mentioned reasons. Bodies can be created from all manner of materials. A spirit's own, former body is also an option, and one that has the advantages of being readily assembled, and more familiar to the spirit than an artificial one. However on top of the usual risks, when doing so one must deal with the disturbing sights and smells of an animate corpse, and one is then only adding to the already problematic stereotypes about necromancers. It is worth noting that living beings other than the necromancer him or herself can be used as a vessel, however this is a morally abhorrent action, and should only be even considered in the most desperate circumstances. As such, the relevant chapter in this book will only cover methods of identifying and and of stopping such possessions in any detail. Finally, spirits can be bound to a pony, usually the necromancer, and forced to obey their will. Such rituals are typically used by those with malicious intent, and while I have occasionally found a use for such abilities over the course of my travels, they are far more likely to be employed for ill. Much like the concept of living vessels above, what I have included here on the subject of binding is meant more for identifying and combating such circumstances as they come up. From the introduction of The Magic of the Dead, by Grim Solace
  2. Changeling feeding can ultimately be divided into three types: passive, direct, and active. Passive feeding is in many respects what one would expect: it is where the changeling simply absorbs ambient love energy from the surrounding area. It is the lowest risk option available to a changeling, requiring no interaction with other beings and a minimum of effort and concentration, and has the least impact food supply, leaving a local population in the best condition to produce more love and least likely to be on guard for future changelings. The downside, naturally, is low rate of return. It requires a large number of ponies for each changeling in an area for changelings to survive off of this method of feeding alone, and it is also the slowest method of feeding. This can be further compounded by circumstances, which can make a town or city better or worse for passive feeding depending on the prevalent attitude toward their fellows. Active feeding is essentially the polar opposite passive feeding, being comparatively fast, efficient, obvious and disruptive. Active feeding is where a changeling takes love energy by force, with no positive intent or feelings required on the part of the victim. The ability is a magical, non-spell effect of which all changelings are capable, channelled through a changeling's mouth. This approach is the fastest a changeling can acquire love to consume, but it comes with considerable downsides. The requisite ability is obvious when in use, meaning the changeling requires at least a secluded area to not be disturbed, and it drains whoever is subjected to it. In small amounts this merely causes fatigue which is easy enough to recover from, however further draining can cause more serious effects, some of which include semi-permanent loss of energy, temporary loss of or loss of control of emotions, and in extreme cases can even be fatal. The effects of this method of feeding are always visible as well, although the symptoms can be mistaken for having other causes. Direct feeding occupies an unusual middle ground between the other two methods. It doesn't harm the subject, or require any direct action on the changeling's part, but it is still one of the more difficult or risky ways to feed, and it is almost as efficient as active feeding. It uses the same mechanism as passive feeding, but in a more focused manner: direct feeding occurs when a changeling is a subject of a non-changeling's love, either by earning or disguising as someone that being already loves. The cost then is either the effort needed to earn a creature's love in the first place, or maintaining the disguise necessary to feed on love meant for another. There is a difference, it should be noted, between love and love-energy. Love is an extreme and focused affection for another, while love-energy is the magic that is produced from such a state. Changelings are capable of experiencing the former, but unlike most creatures, for them doing so does not produce the latter. They can exchanged stored love energy among each other, but they cannot produce it themselves except perhaps in negligible amounts, which is the reason why they require other creatures to feed off of. - Excerpt from An Outsider's Guide to Equestria
  3. When looking at the three principle races of Equestria, one may be inclined to wonder what earth ponies bring to the table. In the case of pegasi and unicorns their inherent abilities are blatantly obvious; the former are able to fly, walk on clouds, and manipulate the weather; the latter have telekinesis and the ability to cast spells with nothing but their own bodies; but what do earth ponies have? They are often vaguely described as 'hardy' and 'in tune with nature', but what exactly is meant or implied by these statements is typically not entirely clear. The truth, as is so often the case, is a little more complicated. While unicorns' magic manifests almost exclusively externally, and pegasi manifestations split the difference between external and internal, earth pony magic is exclusively internally directed. As such, it is not as easy to recognize. There is little flashy about it, and it can be very difficult to separate earth pony magic from mere physical training, with enhancements to speed, strength or stamina being among the most common forms of earth pony magic. This magic is typically more passive as well, either being in constant effect though more minor effect or occurring whenever it would be helpful, as opposed to the other two tribes who must perform spellcraft or specific physical actions to make use of their natural abilities. Further and unlike the other tribes, the feats earth pony abilities are things ponies of other tribes could accomplish with enough training, although that training typically both comes easier and goes farther when done by an earth pony. Athletics are not the only applications of earth pony magic. Using their enhanced physical abilities they can achieve a degree of physical precision unmatched by typical members of the other tribes. This is likely the source of their reputation as inventors, as well as their drive to overcome limitations. They are both unable to fly or cast spells naturally, and in the best position to build devices which can overcome those difficulties. They are also capable of a sort of hypersensitivity, and it is form this that they derive their renowned skill at raising plants. While the claims that such abilities derive from earth ponies being 'more in tune with nature' are not entirely wrong, that in itself is a product of heightened awareness of the plants' states. Note that these enhancements to awareness only extend to something's biological state, hence why earth ponies are typically no better than other races at assessing someone's mental state. Still, this trait can be of big help in medical professions, alongside their capacity for plant husbandry. - Excerpt from An Outsider's Guide to Equestria
  4. Yay! Late night crazy theory! So, the title of this one is pretty self explanatory. I hypothesize that our entire existence as we know it is simply our growing as an Artificial Intelligence. Here's how it goes: We started off as a single individual and personality, God. However, in order to handle tasks faster and easier we split into two personalities, Adam and Eve. My knowledge of their story is fuzzy past there, but essentially we continue to divide into more and more personalities to handle more tasks. This goes on even to this day. But, what makes me think our world is only a computer? Everywhere we look, we can see science and math. And yes, I understand "well no duh we see science!", but I mean the compositional makeup of everything is very precise and mathematical. geometrical shapes can be seen down at microscopic levels, levels that we don't really notice in our day-to-day lives. That's why those shapes are not, nor ever will be, perfect circles, because perfect circles are impossible to actually make, and we know this. Each of us preforms a unique task within our AI unit. Some of us crunch numbers, others simulate outcomes of battles. When we, as AI fragments, become incapable to continue on, we fall apart. Some fragments have become infected by viruses, and seek to kill or infect other fragments. Other fragments have simply become corrupted, A.K.A. sickness, though some go so far beyond repair that they become illnesses. Other programs have slight defects, or encounter bugs while they run that affect their core programming. Then there's our universe. Earth, as far as we know, is the only planet that has sentient life on it. What could this mean? Simple. Earth is our containment unit. Space is just that, open space between containment units. We don't have direct access to these other units, nor do they really have anything left stored in them. We've advanced so far though, that we can see and access these other storage units. As we progress, we may soon be able to begin storing fragments there, especially once we've filled Earth's storage space. Of course, for us 1 year is a long time, but for whomever created us 1 year is probably a very, very short time period. Well, I should head to bed before it gets too late. Stay crazy everybody!
  5. Yep, you guessed it. I remembered another crazy theory of mine, though this one draws heavily from personal experiences to try and justify it. To explain it simply, there are multiple Gods, and every couple years or so they choose a champion among the human race to act as their champion. As the Gods guide their champions as they grow up, forming a sort of bond that shares the God's powers with the champion. After a set period of time, the Gods have their champions battle, and whomever's champion is left standing at the end wins. To them, it's just a friendly competition, though the victory conditions are still somewhat unclear to me. Now, to get a little more in depth. There are a plethora of Gods, and I can only name a handful certainly. Anyone with more religious knowledge could probably do a better job at figuring out just how many there are, but the three I know of are God (for obvious reasons), Satan (again, obvious), and my God, Fate. Before you say anything you'll regret, let me explain a couple more things. The reason that I say God and Satan are obvious is because God was actually winner of the last game, and Jesus was his champion. Gods, like everyone, have rivalries, and God's rival is Satan. They're the two biggest competitors, each able to make close bonds with their champions. Now, in order to explain how I know Fate is also one of the Gods, I need to tell some personal examples. If you don't care, that's fine, I'll just leave each example in a separate spoiler for you to find. My life in general: School: Anyway, the big thing that shines for me as a sign of Fate's influence is when I managed to get into college without applying. I didn't really bother applying for any colleges thanks to my procrastination, but I'd been accepted by a local community college because they were doing on-the-spot acceptance at my High School during my Junior year. My parents also told me about a fund that had been put away for me when I was a baby so I could go to college. Thanks to that, I was able to go to college without taking out any loans or incurring any kind of debt. I only went there for one semester, but there's a bigger reason for that later. Love and Marriage: So, I met my soon-to-be wife while I was taking my semester of college. She was a Senior in highschool, and the class was Intro to Operating Systems and PC Repair. We both sat near the back of class, and we got along, but being my introverted self I thought any and every girl I was ever interested in already had a boyfriend. Well, about a month or two into the class, she asks me if I want to go to the mall and have a study date with her while her Mom does some shopping. I agreed, and brought snacks along just in case. Again, I didn't think too much of it, being a introvert. It wasn't until about a week later when she texted me asking if I wanted to go on a double date with her, her sister, and her sister's boyfriend. Of course I agreed, and that's when we officially started dating. I was only in college for that one semester, but if I hadn't been I wouldn't have met my beautiful fiance. Powers Anyway, through these moments, how everything just seemed to kind of line up for me, I believe that Fate is guiding me. During one night, while I was lying in bed alone with my thoughts, I started thinking about this theory, about how there are different champions and everything. History is written by the victors, too, so other champions could've easily been forgotten. I dunno, I just feel like there's another side to life that we haven't discovered yet, that there's something more that what we've come to perceive. I guess that's what all of these crazy theories are for, anyway. An outlet for my desire for life to be something more than it currently seems to be. Ah well. I still have fun making them! Crazy Log, out!
  6. Okay so I watched Equestria Girls Friendship Games when it premiered in the US about two, three weeks ago and something caught me in particular. Twilight's last lines about some time travel loop so I have been wondering what it means. I have theorized three possible outcomes: A) Season 6 Premeir or B) Season 5 Finalle. Both are likely but the thrid is a little more far fetched and that is C) A normal MLP: FiM movie and the first FiM movie that I can think of not including Equestria Girls. Also it made me wonder about how this time travel would work. I figured since as a unicorn she could time travel for short periods of time whether it would be a new spell. Now that she is an Alicorn she has more magical power if I understood the Season 4 Finalle right. So here I am posting this topic to get some input from you guys. What do you think it all means?
  7. Alright, so this theory of mine is a little off the wall. Well, let me give you a little idea about what I'm talking about first. If any of you are Halo fans, then you might know that the Flood were created by the Forerunners to defeat an enemy, and that the Flood was so powerful it took eradicating all other sentient life in the galaxy to stop it. (Kinda) Well, my theory is somewhat similar. What if we were created by a more advanced, but physically inferior, race of aliens to win their war. Hear me out. In order to protect their research from the enemy, they chose a remote planet far away, what we know as Earth. There, they terra-formed it and seeded species from their part of the universe, species that were extremely deadly to them. Here, on this newly terra-formed planet they began their research, splicing their own DNA to create a weapon of mass destruction. They gave it a hardened frame that to take surprising impacts and repair itself (our skeleton), a shell to protect it against bacterial warfare (our skin. The aliens have thin skin and were susceptible to many forms of bacteria), a naturally evolving mind that could easily adapt to new situations and could figure out enemy technology in a combat environment (our brains, obviously), reproductive organs and a long life span (compared to the aliens) so that they could be left on a planet with no support, and so on and so forth. Research was going well, and everything was well on it's way to making the ultimate weapon. However, before it could be completed, something went wrong. The creatures became rebellious, something not anticipated. Their cunning and brute strength overwhelmed the aliens stationed here, blowing up the facility housing the bacterial experiments (spreading them worldwide). If any of them had escaped, it was just barely. The creatures populated their new planet, learning, evolving, creating, but ultimately destroying. These creatures had been made for one purpose, to destroy enemy planets. Even with all of their intelligence, they could not prevent their basic instinct, their nature, from killing their new home world. Eventually, before the planet dies, the creatures will escape and begin to destroy another planet. That is what frightens the aliens the most. It is why they continue to check up on their failed experiment, but cannot send their armies to eradicate them. Hopefully, with a bit of patience and goading, they can eventually turn their creation upon their foes, but what happens after that? So, yeah. That's about the gist of it. What do you guys think? Are we intelligent machines created by an alien race for war? Or, am I just as crazy as I think I am? Please, feel free to let me know in the comments below.
  8. The following pony duo has been seen at Hasbro's world HQ party. Future show characters or just a couple of HasbrOCs? EDIT: Confirmed
