  1. Hello everyone! I've been thinking of making a Kitsune OC for WoE, but I feel like I should ask a few questions before I make their form. I'm planning to give them horns, but the expanded lore for them says that they're a extremely rare trait. I'm also planning to make them have a prosthetic front leg due to an incident involving Yokai Hunters, which will be able to change depending on their form. Am I allowed to give them these traits, or would both of them be fit for the Free For All RP instead?
  2. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria Name: Hogo-sha no Arashi Doro Nickname: Hogo-Sha, Sha, Stormy Weather Sex: Male Age: Young Adult (By yokai standards) Species: Yokai (Okami) Eye color: Pale Yellow Coat: Black with small arcs of yellow lightning flowing through it. Mane/Tail: Long and wispy, glows in the dark. Physique: Diamond Dog Okami Residence: Wanders around Occupation: Adventurer, Bodyguard, Do-gooder, occasional singer Cutie Mark: N/A Unique Traits: Supernatural Sense of Smell: Like others in his family, Hogosha posesses an incredibly acute sense of smell. Is capable of sniffing out anything and anyone provided he’s caught their scent once before… and the weather is good and his allergies aren’t acting up. Magic Condition: As a Yokai, Magic is an inherent part of his being. This often manifests as the glow and bolts of ethereal lightning that shoot across his fur, but also is shown through great shows of speed strength and healing. Storm Magic: Can conjure storm clouds at will and can even walk on them and use them for quick transportation. Can also temporarily turn his body into stormclouds for short periods of time. Windy Breath and Lung Capacity: Is able to hold his breath for long periods of time without need to inhale again. Can produce howling gales of wind by blowing or just by holwing. Spell Beads: Six Beads that hover around Hogo-sha’s neck. If he bites down on one it grants him a magical boon with different benefits and drawbacks. Wall Walking: A passive magical aura that lets Hogo-sha run and walk on almost any solid surface as if gravity had been altered. Sturdiness: Increases his endurance and lets him redirect potent forces away from himself. Stormcloud: Makes himself intangible for a short time and can turn himself into a stormcloud in the same shape and size of his default form. Lightning generation: enhances his electrical magics, can make his fur shocking to the touch, and can bark lightning strikes at a maximum of six times. Alter Sword: Can alter the properties of his weapon, typically leaving it as a Bokken in most situations. When needed he will turn it to normal (if incredibly sturdy) sword. Can only change and reshape his custom sword made by a family friend. Bigger and Badder: Sacrifice his storm and illusion magics to increase his size, strength and speed. Disliked using it as it locks him into the form for hours in exchange for the massive change. Only makes him larger than a carriage but smaller than a medium sized building. Shapeshifting: Capable of switching between his two forms easily in most circumstances. Currently, stays in a diamond dog guise most of the time but is working on a pony one. Well Read: Is a big bookworm. The dwelling he had back in the mountain was essentially a small library that took up most of the space. Has deep knowledge of both eastern and equestrian poetry and literature. Not to the same degree as a professional scholar, but still very informed. Musical knowledge: Has been taught how to play bass guitar by his twin brother, tends to listen to a lot of jazz or occasionall jazz fusion. History: Hogo-Sha Was born to litter in a forest in Neighpon to pair of proud parents and several siblings (one of whom was lost). His Mother was Nijurkuya, a former delinquent Yokai and skilled mage from the city who seemed to adore seeking out trouble. The pup’s father was a well known Okami of Legend who had been born before Neighpon had even been formed. Not long after he was born, Hogo-sha earned his name when he proved to be an oddly fussy and protective pup when it came to his family. Even when at his smallest he would nip and growl when an unfamiliar scent approached him or his family. At the age when his eyes were barely opened his bark proved worse than his bite. Like the rest of his siblings, Hogo-sha was raised on the mysterious Green Mist Mountains: A secluded Mountain peak in Northeastern Neighpon. Despite being the most competitive among his siblings he was also the most protective of them. When one of them came back home late he would continuously badger his parents to let him help scent them out. Even when they told him no he would still go out to search on his own. When he was out exploring the mountains one day, Hogo-sha went exploring by the river. Having seen his parents catch fish when they visited down here, he decided to attempt to catch some himself. He stepped further and further into the stream until he went too deep and was snatched up by the current. Lucky for the pup, one of his brothers was present and managed to save him from drowning. Since then he gained an intense fear of water… and thanks to growing closer to the sibling who saved him: a deep appreciation of music. Around his late teens, Hogo-sha began to travel outside with his mother and father on visits to the countryside and cities. On most of their visits, he would often spend long periods of time in libraries or bookstores. Mostly he would buy stories of folktales, mythology, history, samurai hoofbooks and… more than a few poetry collections. On the rides home, he would quietly read and absorb the information. One day he noticed that His Father was in a few of these, with many stories to his name. Stories of a disagreement with a trio of Katakirauwa, A great battle against an ancient Bear Yokai, Even leading a small army of yokai against caribou invaders in the not too distant past. These stories instilled in the young wolf the desire to forge stories of his own… hopefully not so many as silly as his fathers but more of the thrilling kind. He often would badger his father to tell him first paw accounts of the stories, asking him how those adventures ever got him excited. The answer was almost always something along the lines of making him exhausted just thinking about them. On one visit he caught a glimpse of an old newspaper he discovered that Taira had gone on a short rampage across the countryside near Polohama… back when he and his siblings were born. When he confronted him about this, the old wolf confessed that one of the pups had been captured by poachers not long after being born and had been taken to a Pony city. Taira tried to track down the pup but thanks to the skill of the poachers they managed to hide her scent and disappear into the urban jungle. Hogo-sha was shocked and disheartened. He promised not to share the story with his brothers and sisters, but the knowledge left him with a feeling of betrayal and broke the pedestal he put his father on. Once he was old enough he departed the mountain range and promised both his parents he’d only return occasionally until he’d made a legend for himself and became powerful enough to protect all the pack on his own. As an adult, he ended up traveling across the land and beyond in order to hone his skills in any way he could. He had focused so much on his other types of magic that his shapeshifting wasn’t yet as reliable. To make up for that skill deficiency he took on the form of a creature that wasn’t too different from his normal form: A diamond dog. In this shape, he would travel across Neighpon challenging various dojos to test his skill and even finding a master to teach him other forms of martial arts and swordsmareship. In time he did manage to make a reputation for himself, a rumor of a diamond dog who would come into dojo’s across the east and battle various masters. He won many times and lost just as much, but still, he constantly strives to better himself through the conflicts. After a while, some even began seeking him out to teach them what he knew as he grew. Was Recently seen fighting in the Sarvaarberg Arena as a Diamond Dog. Character Personality: Hogo-sha is at his heart a well meaning but overly enthusiastic Yokai. Deeply concerned with protecting the things he loves, he often buries himself in absurd challenges and tasks to make himself stronger. In pursuit of this goal he has already managed to travel across the lands of Neighpon, Long Guo, and has recently began to test himself in the savage lands of Whitescar. Comparing Hogo-sha to your typical strong, silent warrior type may seem accurate at first. However, he often shows a more relaxed if occasionally awkward side to himself once befriended. While he prefers to keep things simple, he isn’t the type to turn down a chance at merriment or a good meal. He almost always carries a book with him on his person, typically it will be some sort of mystery fiction or romance novel he has found himself engrossed in. When he has some form of down he can be found visiting Jazz clubs or in the company of his brother when he runs into him. Hogo-sha may act brave in most situations, but he actually has a couple notable fears. His most prominent being a fear of deep waters. When traveling on boats, he has been known to stay in his cabin and refuse to come out until they meet the land. If in the presence of spiders he tends to do one of two things: Freeze up or panic. Sometimes he may one after the other! The more personal fear he has is letting others down. Character Summary: A somewhat dorky traveling swordswolf who wants to protect what matters to him and hopes to find more things that matter on the path he goes!
  3. The North Market of Canterlot was an ancient holdover of a time before the elites of the city had fully appropriated the haute couture of Prance. Before the streets were lined with boutiques and cafes, the commerce of Equestria's capital had primarily taken place in places like this, a covered bazaar where stalls could be set up, rain or shine, for the ponies to conduct the trade that was the lifeblood of civic existence. Such activity had long since migrated outward and away from the great markets, the old edifices of brick and stone eventually being sold off for hotels or taxi hubs. The North Market, or the building that had once housed it, had recently come back under to crown's control, after a defunct hotelier had defaulted on his taxes. Blueblood, on hearing of this, made the suggestion of restoring the market's original function. It would fill a gap in the urban planning; serving as a venue for entrepreneurial merchants who were facing a huge real estate price barrier to setting up shop in Canterlot. It would be a vibrant fusion of the glorious past and exciting future... with the enormous crest of House Platinum on the front doors. Couldn't let posterity be ignorant of who had salvaged their inheritance, now, could he? And now was the grand opening. The ceremony had been relatively short, with most ponies wanting to get in and take a look. The floor hadn't been filled out fully, with most of the space being taken up by food vendors. Some very good food vendors, in fact; the wafting aromas of deliciousness had factored in quite heavily to the decision to shorten the ceremony. And now ponies, mostly non-aristocratic ponies, were browsing wares and munching treats that they could actually afford, in an environment where the cheapness did not imply vulgarity. The Prince honestly felt it as one of his triumphs, as he strolled like a potentate through the indoor bazaar. Here and there, one could spot a high-class visitor, the curious or historically minded. And maybe a few foreigners as well...
  4. Name: Ra’nu Senshi Sex: Male Age: Ancient Species: Okami (Typically disguised as a kirin) Eye Color: Red, glowing in his true form. Character Color: His true form is black in color, though there are white parts. Most notably, most of the fur on his head is white, giving the impression of a lion-like mane of white hair surrounding his face. His pony form is green in color, with sky blue horns, scales, and hooves. Mane/Tail: His pony form boasts a mane and beard combo that obtains much the same effect as the white parts of his fur in his wolf form. Somewhat wild and long, the mane almost seems to flow into the beard to encircle his face. His tail is fairly short in comparison, mostly just a tuft of hair. Both are a pure white in color. Physique: Just as physically imposing as his pack leader Taira, if not more. He is stocky and muscular, also sporting an impressive height. Also like his leader, he sports bits of cloud flowing off his limbs around the ankles. He also has an ethereal scarf floating near him that is red in color. Residence: Green Mist Mountains Occupation: Guardian. Currently wandering in search of his son. Cutie Mark: His pony form has a cutie mark of three gray gears interlocked and turning. Unique Traits: Keen Senses: Being an okami allows him to utilize a better sense of smell and hearing than most others. Magic: His magic mostly consists of shield spells as well as levitation and the occasional offensive blast. Equipment: He tends to carry around a pair of katanas that are rather unremarkable. Scarf: While it is always present in his true form, he has learned to hide it in his pony form, making it invisible while he is disguised. History: While his childhood was good and fun, and this tended to transfer into his adult life as a guardian for the tribe, there were some ups and downs. He met his wife, Nise, when she stumbled upon the mountain pack and he was part of the group that greeted her. He knew from his first look at her that she was the one, and they led a happy life together, even birthing and raising a son. That happiness was was not to last though, as one day while he was out performing his duties, his son was stolen from him. Enraged, Ra’nu was about to go on a rampage to get him back. His wife managed to calm him down though, sending him off on a rescue mission with a calmer and more focused mind. She even went with him to provide support. Though he has yet to find his son, he will not stop until his family is reunited once more. Personality: He is a rather serious individual when it comes to protecting others, but he can be a real sweetheart to those he cares about. He is friendly, all in all, and willing to take any number of hits if it means keeping those he cares about safe. He will give his all to save everyone, but he also knows that can be impossible at times.

  6. From the album: The Character Corner (Color!)

While not old enough to be a legend, This yokai has been become something of a rumor around some of the more rural villages of Neighpon. A Goofy, playful and occasionally flirtatious spirit of music who carries a shamisen at his side at all time. He comes on Rain or Shine to play cheerful tunes, usually disguised as a kirin with similar colors. Some say he's been appearing even in Long guo and Whitescar... you never know where he'll pop up!
  7. Roleplay Type: World of EquestriaName: Hake no Sakkaku (ハケの錯覚, lit. "an illusion of brush"); goes by "Cerulean Canvas" in pony formSex: FemaleAge: Very oldSpecies: 6-tailed Kitsune (Yokai)Eye colour: Light greenCoat: The dominant color of Cerulean's fur is white. In her kitsune form, she has blue markings along the tips of her tails, along her sides, on her front legs, part of her back leg, above her eyes, below her eyes, and at the tips of her ears. On her pony form, these markings are only around her eyes. Her hooves are also furred.Mane/Tail: Cerulean has flaring bangs outward and a ponytail at the back. Her tail is evenly and well-combed, and even her bangs are well controlled. Physique: In her kitsune form, Cerulean is rather large, about the size of your average adolescent dragon. She stands on all fours, and she's largest at her chest area and her body recedes toward her hindquarters. In her pony form, she's slightly larger than the average earth pony but otherwise does not stand out physique-wise.Residence: Ponyville, though she does wander from place to place.Occupation: Freelance artistCutie Mark: A paintbrush with blue paint the same color as her mane. Cerulean will claim to you that she earned this cutie mark when she tried out painting for the first time and it seemed as though it "literally came to life", and that she'd done so when she was living in a home situation where she was getting kicked out by her parents, telling her she needed to support herself, and she couldn't find any skills applicable to self-support. She specializes in painting optical illusions and paintings that seem so real. In reality, her magic is something she's developed and honed over the many, many years she's been alive, and indeed her paintings are done with magic, not with actual skill. Unique Traits: Does being a kitsune count? Her pony form's unique trait lies in the bauble she wears around her neck, which is the gemstone that contains all of her magical power. Its power is far more obvious when she is in her kitsune form as the ribbon around it flows around her neck rather than being directly tied to it. It sometimes glows in her pony form when she's transmuting magic into her artistry or creating illusions. As should be guessed, Cerulean is an expert at illusion magic. Her pony form itself is an illusion, a shapeshift in order to deceive ponies. History: Given how old Cerulean is, it would take a very long time to go into her history - and she wouldn't tell you about it if you asked, anyway. A summation is that she was born into a group of yokai much like herself, outreached in the fringes of Equestria. Her story with her parents isn't entirely fabricated, as they believed in tough love and criticized her harshly for her magical ability as it was developing as she grew older. Thankfully for Cerulean, she was a hard worker and once she gained her second tail, she had confidence that she could support herself without the aid of her parents, who decided a two-tailed kitsune was old enough to take care of herself. Much of what she was taught revolved around deceiving other species in order to swindle support from them. When asked about other animals outside of that, she never had her questions answered; this led to her turn-around once she grew that second tail to become a traveler and immerse herself in the cultures of other species in order to grow to better understand them. Cerulean was there to witness the growing of the two alicorn sisters, and she was there to witness Luna's banishment to the moon. She changed her form many times over these years in order to ensure no one uncovered her identity. Cerulean's natural craftiness allowed her to keep on the down low for a long time, especially since she switched up her personality every so often to make the connection even harder to make. The easiest way to tell her forms from each other came from her coloration, the one thing about her appearance that she never changed, but even then she varied it up enough that she could play it off as if she was a descendant of the previous creature. It also helped that she species-hopped often, going from dragons to alligators to sirens and everything in between. It wasn't until recently that she settled on being an earth pony, and she's begun to covet the simple life of the ponies in Ponyville, such that she's beginning to consider settling into this form and settle down as a permanent residence. It's a good thing for her, too, because being in that tribe as well as being on the run was beginning to become boring and tumultuous for her. She's tired and old and she'd rather immerse herself in a culture and forget entirely about the fact she is a yokai, even if she may enjoy some aspects of it. Character Personality: The personality that Cerulean has settled on for this pony form is closest to her original personality. She has, in years, shifted between being a shy recluse, to an outgoing stage performer, to a rough and tumble dragon; but now that she's embracing a permanent life, she doesn't want to play a face anymore. As a result, aside from some secrets she keeps close to the chest, her pony self is pretty close to who she was. Cerulean is an artist by nature and has all the eccentricities that come with that. She loves to create, she loves to see her creations come to life, and she seeks validation from others on how great her creations are. She also appears to often be in her own world, thinking of ideas of the next big show she can create or the next big mural she can paint. This ditziness only appears when she is in the zone, thinking about what she wants to do next, and it's not so much airheadedness as a space she goes in her head where everything around her seems to disappear. She won't communicate how she's feeling in this mode, and hell, she may not even communicate at all when someone is attempting to talk to her, at least until her project is finished. She has an intense amount of focus that doesn't compare even to other artists, to the point that it can be eerie how little she seems to perceive once she's "in the zone". She also has a tendency to drop whatever she is doing whenever she reaches this state, making it a potential frustration to those communicating with her. When she isn't in this zone or when she's just creating for fun, though, Cerulean is very sociable - perhaps too much, in a very forward way. Cerulean should be known as a very flirtatious pony, regardless of the recipient's gender, and quite the teaser. She appears to enjoy getting under the skin of other ponies, making them squirm, and with all of her years of studying animal behavior, she also seems to have an intuitive instinct for what will get under their skin, too. She pokes and prods at buttons until she either perturbs the pony too much or advances actually happen and the pony appears to think she's interested, in which case she will make it clear she isn't. That isn't to say she's not up for a flirtatious foray, necessarily, but she avoids commitments and relationships like the plague. Part of the reason is due to the fact that Cerulean will outlive any particular partner, and as a result despite her friendliness, overly friendliness, she is also fairly detached from other ponies. In a way, this is a good thing, because her wealth of knowledge and her age means that she can give good advice. When she's seen it all before, she has an idea of how to handle it now, and she has no troubles telling other ponies information they may need to know. That being said, she is still slightly a tricky one by nature, like most kitsune, and may pull a joke or a prank. In fact, Cerulean has a penchant for pranks and may deceive another pony for a laugh. This can lead to her earning the reputation of someone who is callous rather than helpful, but really it is more based on her whim and how attached she is to the pony in particular (of course, it's not often she's that attached, but a secret need to have someone close to her may bring her to be so in the future). When she does give good advice and means it, it's solid advice because she doesn't become too emotionally invested in any other pony's situation. And when she tricks somepony, it's going to be a good prank. She knows what works and what doesn't, after all. Being a kitsune, a yokai, who has been without yokai for so long, who wouldn't understand what it's like, has left Cerulean being deeply lonely deep inside. That detachment can betray that in her, for those of the keener eye. But Cerulean puts up a playful, flirtatious front, and it works fine for her. It also makes it especially harsh and contrasting when Cerulean breaks that front, either with a show of emotion (which she rarely ever does; vulnerability is something she's gotten very good at hiding, along with her true form) or with a kind of deep wisdom or harshness that drastically conflicts with those personality traits. Cerulean, in fact, can be very chilling whenever she does get serious, and she can even come off as cold and heartless with the way she may address certain issues. She doesn't sugarcoat the truth if she is going to give advice to you, so be warned. Character Summary: Hake no Sakkaku, or "Cerulean Canvas", is a kitsune living disguised as an earth pony. She's flirtatious and wise, and yet there is that impression she has a deep secret that she is hiding. She's card-carrying and cunning, sly as the fox she is, but not unfriendly toward those she speaks to. She doesn't like to commit, and she does like to prank. She's old and tired... And she just needs someone who understands.
  8. Name: Furem Sanguinem (uses Takai Maō as his go to disguise name.) Sex: Male Age: fairly old Species: Nekomata (tends to disguise as a unicorn) Eye Color: Bright green in both forms, though they glow in his true form. Character Color: His true form has a coat of a dark green color that borders on being black while his disguise has a coat of a maroonish pink color. Mane/Tail: In his true form, his tail is as one would expect from his kind, while his hair is a bit spiky in the front and consistent with his coat color. His disguise has a rather curly set of mane and tail, clearly lots of work goes into getting them to curl and rest as they do. The mane mostly goes to the right side, curling in on itself more as it reaches the end about halfway down the eye. The tail is a collection of large curls reaching all the way down to the floor. Both are mainly pink in color, with light blue streaks giving the combination a cotton candy feel. He also wears a black top hat with a pink band around it. Physique: Neither form is all that impressive physically, as his true form is only slightly larger than the average housecat and his disguise is actually noticeably smaller than most stallions. It’s rather effeminate to tell the truth. Residence: Travels with the show, though his home base is in Las Pegasus’ ground districts. Occupation: Owner and ringmaster to his circus. Cutie Mark: A design that looks like any other gray key at first glance, though upon closer inspection would turn out to be a key with a skull design on one end. Unique Traits: Necromancy: Over many years, he trained in and taught himself the magic of necromancy, though he avoided messing with souls. Illusions: Once he was happy with his skill in Necromancy, he moved on to illusion magic so he could bring them with him if need be without raising suspicion. He can even mask smells. Magic: Aside from his two specializations, he knows simple spells such as levitation and how to summon hitodama. He is currently working on teleportation magic. History: Being what he is, he has been around a long time. Early on, he was just like all the other kids, though as time passed and they grew up, he didn’t. At least not at their speed. Over the lifetimes, he saw many friends come and go, and he started looking into necromancy to fill the voids. It wasn’t until he raised his first thrall, a mouse, that he truly got into the school of magic though. By the time his tail split, signaling his advancement, he had mastered necromancy and decided to move on to illusions. Many unremarkable years later, he saw a circus coming through the area and decided to watch the show. That was when the idea truly hit, and his necromancy evolved. Almost overnight, there was a new circus in existance. It wasn’t much to talk about at first, but over time it grew more popular and after “handing it down” multiple times, it ended up traveling around the world with the main base being situated in Las Pegasus. Personality: He is generally a bit of a smooth-talker, though that was to be expected when his job was to run a circus that secretly held almost no actual life in it. To top it off, he is rather nice and friendly, willing to help out in most situations. He has a long memory, and he always repays his debts, wether that mean returning a favor or getting revenge. Summary: Outwardly, a friendly fast-talker of a ringmaster, but on the inside a lonely necromancer quite literally making friends to replace those he lost.
  9. To say that the Dragon Fangs Bandit Gang's cave was...well...'a fixer upper' was something of an understatement in itself, it was settled in the heart of a mountain that bubbled at its core - which the heat gave away making the insides almost uncomfortably sweltering during the day...but was probably extremely cozy at night. No cold nights on the hard ground outside, but cozy warm nights on the hard ground inside. Unless you were the Bandit Queen that is. And wouldn't she be happy today. Her gang had brought in two juicy pieces of bit-bait indeed, they had made sure they were roped and well kept in place as they were brought through the cave, it was littered with multiple spoils of their heists. Turned over carriages, baskets filled with half eaten or half rotten food that stank in the heat of the cave - but the deeper into the cave the better the treasure appeared to be. Gold, jewels, silk, seals of traders and village mayors and at the heart of it a big throne that must've been part of some ornamental palanquin that'd now been changed into a ramshackle seat covered in tattered silks and treasures. Needless to say a throne fit for an equally ramshackle pony, who happened to be sat on it chomping away at a peach before her eyes settled on what was being dragged into the 'throne room' with a cold stare as she threw the fruit away and shifted herself to her hooves to get a better look at what was being dragged in. However when she did get a good eyeful of her 'guests', there was a brief moment of disbelief that was completely overtaken by a cruel smirk that worked its way across her muzzle as she stepped down from her pedestal. If only the physical one. "I was about to tan your idiotic hides for interrupting me, you know I don't like being interrupted while I eat." Came her sharp bark as she walked past some of the bandits that'd immediately cowtowed to her, those that weren't keeping a hold of their prisoners that is. Eyeing over them again as she stepped up closer, she continued to smirk at the ideas bubbling away between those cruel violet eyes of hers. "But I'll admit, you muddling milquetoasts actually did something right for once this week...two pretty prizes indeed." The venom in her smirk turned sweet, sickeningly sweet, fake and full of false promise as she took a step back and took a more condescending expression. "I do hope your escort to our home was comfortable."

    Baby Ochi

    From the album: OC Art

Just kinda felt like drawing something cute and simple, so here's a baby Ochiru, how she might have looked right after her cherry blossom grove first bloomed. Featuring special summer edition! I like to think the mask that serves as her face was able to mimic facial expressions so that her feelings could be conveyed like a normal pony/Yokai, but it became blank and still after her grove was destroyed. So now she has a perpetually empty expression on her face. Maybe if she ever gets some of her power back though, her mask will be able to smile like this again.
  11. Name: Howaitorōzu, Gingitsune, Kuroi Chō, the list goes on. Sex: Female Age: very old Species: Jorōgumo Eye Color: Her current main disguise, that being Howaitorōzu, almost never has her eyes open enough for anyone to tell the color anyways, but they share their color with her true form, a Midnight blue. In fact, all three disguises share this eye color. Coat Color: Kumo: Black with toxic green markings Rōzu: Pure White Gingitsune: Purple with sky blue hooves Kuroi Chō: Sky blue Main/tail: Rōzu: She has her mane in a rather wild state, very spiky while also having a part hang down over one eye. Her tail is likewise spiky and wild, ending around her knees. Both are a sky blue in color. Gingitsune: His mane, while rather short and barely reaching past the bottom of his head in the back, is somewhat messy looking. His tail, also short and slightly messy, shares it's gray color with his mane. Kuroi Cho: Her mane is very spiky, being swept behind her with a hair band to keep it out of her face, including a butterfly clipped to the band. Her tail is tied up with some hair ties, raising it up a little bit before the rest of it spills out rather gracefully and ending up before her knees. Both her mane and tail sport a green color with a bit of light green present in there as well. Physique: Being the size of a small dog, her true form is not all that physically imposing. That is something also shared between her disguises, which makes sense given their given occupations. Kumo's markings, which are on top of a silk-like covering that grows out of her back and drapes down to the ground like some kind of organic cloak, are in the shape of a spider's web. Her face also has some markings on it, though looking more like a tiger's markings than a web. Residence: A manor on the outskirts of Polohama. Occupation: Owner (and former founder) of a large and prosperous fashion company. Cutie Mark: Her true form and Rozu do not have cutie marks, but the other two do. Gingitsune has a mark of a puppet being controlled with strings of spider silk, connected to a spider's leg. Kuroi has a mark of a spider weaving it's strands into what almost looks like the start of a scarf from stiching. Unique Traits: Weaving: Over the ages of her life, she has built up her skill in the use of her own strands, eventually making them into clothing that was light and comfortable, soon enough adding fashionable to the list. She can still do more traditional uses of her threads as well, of course, like webs and traps, but she has less reason to use them that way nowadays. Magic: On top of levitation and disguises, she has developed the ability to create magical clones of herself by studying the methods used by the bird yokai that were their own flocks. She never could get it to work to that extent, but she has managed to create clones that are essentially puppets. If she does not control them, they will simply stand around doing nothing. Enhanced Sight: Given her true form has as many eyes as it does, it was unavoidable that she would want to alter some of them to be more useful. She has changed a couple pairs to see magical energy and the emotional energies that changelings feed on. She left the other four alone, allowing her to still see normally with them. Personality: Her personality can switch at a moment's notice as she changes disguises, but in her true form she typically remains as a kind individual, if a bit playful, in more ways than one. Being how she is though, being playful can translate to a web of deceit and manipulation for nothing more than her enjoyment. These webs are harmless, typically, but she does so enjoy weaving them. Love is really a concept that tends to escape her though, as despite her constantly playing at being a family and her long life, she had yet to find anyone to interest her in that way. History: In her opinion, her early years, before she left the nest so to speak, were rather boring. Kumo had spent that time learning the basic skills she would need to survive and blend in, but that was mostly it. For reasons she is still not sure of, they were living very isolated lives, just her and her family in a cave. Eventually though, despite her parents' wishes, she found a way out of the cave and left. They must have agreed she was old enough to leave though, as they never chased after her. Or maybe it was fear of the bears wandering around the mountain, which was understandable given it took all she had to not get caught multiple times on the way down. She made it though, meeting up with a pack of wolves that were apparently enemies of the bears. They were much nicer though, especially since she could actually talk to them without getting attacked for existing. She was granted refuge, and volunteered to help when the talk of bringing the fight to the bears eventually came up. She had established herself as a trickster already, making this come as a bit of a surprise and with some suspicion. Still, she helped them overcome their enemy through traps and hit-and-run attacks, though she wasn't usually involved in the attacks herself, simply setting them up and organizing them. Eventually, the final assault came, and she was sent to help the larger forces make the assault easier for that small group. After the war, she went her separate way from the pack, though she made sure to visit every now and then, especially Taira. Instead, she had been searching for her own territory to belong to. There really wasn't much success with that though, until she found a small town that felt like it could use her, so she stayed. She made a name for herself, though not her true name, as a wonderful seamstress making everything from clothes to blankets, whatever they asked of her. She stayed there through the next war, keeping the hoards of caribou away from the small village where she lived until they were gone, leaving a newly united Neighpon. She began her climb of the social ladder soon after, as well as the financial one as she managed to bag one of the new nobles as a customer. Over the years, her little business evolved into a full-blown company, employing mostly unicorns as they could more easily replicate what she did with the clothing. Of course, she wouldn't turn away other skilled ponies, and she definitely would welcome more of her kind. At some point, the business outgrew the town it had started in, and she moved the headquarters to the bustling city of Polohama. From there she continued passing down her company to herself, her own little dynasty. Summary: A playful, ancient Yokai, Kumo is ready to take on the world with the backing of her high status and her coffers.
  12. From the album: Character Corner (Sketches!)

A yokai commonly glimpsed in an abandoned temple. In the past this being is said to hhave gotten a sect of followers of the harmonious path drunk and then stole several artifacts from their head monk then ruined their temple. Still is in posession of an ancient staff of which some of the followers might like reclaimed.

    Nosk

From the album: Requests, Gifts, Commissions

This one was a doozy. Nosk is an important figure in Ochiru's life, which is why I wanted to try drawing him. Plus, I wanted to challenge myself with both a spider, and a different species of yokai. Unfortunately, there really isn't a lot of unique features given to spider monsters in general, other than looking like spiders, so I was challenged to try and think of ways to make him look more unique and different from just an enormous spider. Very pleased with how it ended up turning out! May have fudged the grey colors into mostly dark greys and black, but otherwise I like how it turned out. Definitely was a challenge - I've never drank anything remotely like this before, but I'm happy with the result! Nosk (c) DerpRavener
  14. Name: Nosk Sex: Male Age: Ancient Species: Jorogumo Yokai Eye colour: Nosk's eyes are orange in both forms. In his natural form, his eyes are solid orange, with a slightly lighter area indicating a pupil, while in pony form the colour merely affects his irises. Appearance: In his natural form, Nosk has charcoal chitin covered with a coat of pale grey hair. The chitin on his forelimbs and the top of his abdomen is more pronounced and the hair thinner, giving those sections a darker colouration. The opposite is true for the upper sections of those limbs as well as his belly and head, making those appear lighter. When he disguises as a pony, he takes on a charcoal coat, and a messy, pale grey mane. Physique: Nosk has a very stocky natural form, which is of a spider the size of a pony, though he is surprisingly light and agile. He is somewhat lanky when appearing as a pony, as though built for agility instead of strength. Residence: Tends to wander. Knows a few good caves around the country to hide out in, though rarely spends long in any of them. Occupation: None, though he will occasionally do stints as a mercenary or an actor, depending the circumstances and his mood. Cutie Mark: None in his natural form. In pony form, it's a set of hoofprints leading away, which he explains as representing an affinity for travel and a nomadic nature if asked. Unique Traits: With centuries of practice, Nosk is skilled in combat. While he is best at, and generally prefers to fight unarmed and in conjunction with his illusion magic, his time spent posing as various mercenaries, soldiers and bandits he has at least a basic familiarity with most classical forms of weaponry. Newer weapons meanwhile confuse and intrigue him. Though Nosk's actual shapeshifting capacity is fairly minor, being mostly just abilities to alter his size and proportions to a degree, he more than makes up for it with his illusion magic. Not only can he appear as all varieties of ponies, and a few other creatures, his illusions are not limited to himself, being able to alter the appearance of terrain, and create all manner of apparent distractions. He can even disguise others, although those illusions are less effective and dependent on the one they are cast on. Nosk has a modest acting ability, supplementing his illusions. He has some trouble imitating other ponies outright, and needs a lot of time and preparation to do so, but he has a number of archetypes he can fairly easily slip into. History: It is not known whether the jorogumo had a name before 'Nosk' or if he simply went nameless for many years. If he did have a name before, he either has since forgotten, or is determined to keep it to himself. What is known is that he chose the name 'Nosk' when he was very young. He heard the name from a sailor from a distant land, who had washed ashore after his ship had capsized. The sailor offered stories in exchange a place to sleep and safe passage, and one of those was the tale of a great beast in a dark cavern that would lure travellers in by appearing to them as a lost friend or family member before devouring them whole. Nosk, being much younger, and thus more ambitious and reckless at the time, completely missed the morals of the story and was so enamoured with the idea of the beast that he took its name for his own. When Nosk was young, the whole world seemed like a game. There were rules lots of people followed, without always being sure why they were in place or who put them there. Ponies seemed to be seeking wealth and power, and measuring themselves against their fellows by the same. And everyone seemed to come out alright in the end. Other yokai may have needed to rest for a while, and ponies might look and sound different when they returned, but everyone would start playing again all the same. If it was a game, Nosk wanted to win. He could never quite figure out how one did that, eventually concluding that finding out was a part of the game itself. He tried various things over the decades. Initially he stole from travellers and caravans that passed through his territory, and ambushing the soldiers and adventurers that tried to put a stop to him. After a few years he found that too simple, and as he refined his illusion magic, he disguised himself as a pony and ventured out into the world. He joined mercenary bands, ninja clans, and at one point was even a minor lord, all under different guises. He tried different strategies each time as well, one time being self-serving and seeing how much he could gain personally, while another he focused on how far he could push his underlings, counting only their victories as the true measures of his success. He did not find a true winning condition to the game, but he cared little from the fun he had playing. The pattern did not last forever. The breaking point was after conflict between a town he effectively controlled, and another. Initially the conflict was like any other contest, pitting Nosk's town against the other. In this case another yokai, residing in a cherry blossom grove, lived near the town. This was also not out of the ordinary, there were plenty of other yokai who played the game, some falling into it by accident. The grove was caught between the two conflicting groups, and much of it was destroyed. Nosk didn't notice at first, having moved on along with his cohort. It was on his way back, with the situation finally resolved, that Nosk finally noticed something out of place. The grove looked no better, much to Nosk's surprise. While he would have been surprised to see the grove right back to where it was, those small signs he expected to see of the grove returning were nowhere to be found. And so he waited, out of one part curiosity and one part concern. Perhaps the grove was merely taking some time to come back. Or perhaps the local yokai was distracted with another matter at the moment. Years passed. Nosk remained, waiting for a positive change, and growing more agitated each year it did not happen. Eventually, fed up with simply waiting, he took his own actions. He enticed, coerced and even lured a number of horticulturalists to the area. And yet, it was not enough. The grove faded away. It was a disturbing change for Nosk. Never before had an act in the game felt so permanent, and gave him pause for thought. His efforts to repair the damage did have one positive effect, as it brought the yokai who had lived in the grove back to consciousness. Much to his surprise the yokai, who stated her name as Ochiru, began following beside him, not so much out of a desire for revenge or punishment as seeking companionship in a world she no longer understood. This proved to be both a silver lining to and a painful reminder of what had happened. Nosk cut off all outside contact for a time, save for Ochiru who he did not have the heart to send away, leaving even those he had previously commanded to wonder where he went. A seed of doubt had been planted, and when he eventually returned in yet another new guise, it was with a new purpose. He'd spent a lot of time among the various pony races, and even saw them as having their own importance in a peculiar way, but he'd considered them to be something that would indefinitely return, what ever happened to them. Now he was no longer sure. If another yokai could be hurt in the ways he had caused, what was happening to the ponies he interacted with? This time he had taken the guise of samurai, sent to guard a remote village. The village was of little strategic importance, and life there was fairly slow paced. But then, that was the idea. Free of distractions or ambitions, while still in a position of authority, he was free to observe the townsfolk as they went about their lives. Or at least mostly free of distractions, it took some creativity to explain away the wolf spirit following him around. It was in so doing that he learned something about the nature of ponies, in particular their individual traits and desires and the notion of continuous family lines. With the last discovery, Nosk found himself feeling adrift. He was no longer willing to continue the game, learning what effect it had on those around them. Yet he'd spent his whole life doing so, without that what was left for him? He spent the next few decades wandering aimlessly, Ochiro often at his side. Although their whims would often take them in different directions, they always managed to find each other again. Nosk began to interact more casually, both with ponies and with other yokai. As a way to keep busy, he would investigate each town that was visited and each caravan or passing traveller he encountered. To occupy himself, and to help make up for what he now realized he had done before, he tried to help them as best he could. He found many of his skills applied here too. With enough time, Nosk began to feel more comfortable with himself. He'd stumbled onto a new purpose, of sorts. He returned to playing the game, in a way, but his participation had fundamentally changed. He now knew what could be lost when one was reckless or callous. Still unsure of his own purpose, he now placed value on how he assisted those he interacted with. Personality/Summary: In the general course of things, Nosk is a very relaxed and amiable individual. No one is sure exactly how long he's lived, not even him, and that time has given him experience of a wide range of life events. He's also found over the years that it is often better to listen then to speak, as it is an easy way to get more information from someone knowing or not, as well as limit any chance of exposing one's own weaknesses. Between these two traits, he makes a good listener, and tends to be very measured in his words. It also means he's very resistant to surprise, or at least skilled at feigning such a state. There are a few things which Nosk takes very seriously, enough to nearly instantly change his demeanour. Ochiru is one, he's grown quite attached to the wolf spirit over the years, and has taken something of a brotherly attitude towards her. Usually this manifests as a relaxed and even playful attitude, but if something were to harm or threaten harm to Ochiru the change of attitude would be immediate. He also finds those who seek to gain through harm to others, in other words ones who are 'playing the game wrong', to be deeply irritating. Nosk is not afraid to resort to violence, and has the experience to be very proficient at it, however that is not his preferred method. Despite all he's learned, he still feels a distance between himself and most others, and it is in his nature to act deceitful. He also believes that lessons taught through such subterfuge are more likely to be remembered, even if he doesn't really have proof of this. Finally, as a long yokai, even if he does have a close relationship with Ochiru there are many things he still does not understand, particularly involving interactions with others. He's observed long enough to have a general understanding, but details or nuance are often unfamiliar to him. Other Notes: I know I've changed the app format a little bit, but 'coat' and 'mane and tail' didn't quite seem to apply in this case. Also, it may be obvious, but this one ties into Zeig's recent yokai.
  15. From the album: The Character Corner (Color!)

A yokai who predates the shogunate supposedly living in a mist covered mountain range north of MT. Kaminichi. Stories about his ancient exploits have faded in folklore among the short lived ponies. Legend has it he and and a great army of various yokai united to battle a dangerous and powerful Onikuma who stole his pack's land, defeated the great bear with the help of a pony. SOme folklore makes mentions fo various strange exploits he had gotten into all across the countryside and about fifty year ago he was seen seemingly rampaging through the countryside near Polohama in search of something before departing. I figured I should show off his Okami form for a bit since I'm rather proud of how I'm drawing other animals lately... also His mistcape is magnificent if I do say so myself. Among ponies and other races he is most commonly known as "Ookami no Taisho"

Or, as she's called nowadays, Ochiru. I honestly wasn't expecting to app another character when I started designing this. I got in a discussion with someone the other day about Wolf Yokai designs, and I started wondering to myself how I might design another Okami - how I might use one or two elements from my first design, but change it up to make it look unique in and of itself, so that Kakushi's design didn't look like straight template/basis for a new design. I ended up liking it enough to app a whole new character. I probably like it more than Kakushi's design, because the mask on this one gives it a more uneasy feeling, like something's not quite right about her (at least in my own opinion). Hopefully I'll get a chance to start RPing her soon - should be fun!
  17. Name: Taira-No-Yamamoto or “Yamato Taira” Sex: Male Age: Younger than you think, older than you’d hope. Species: Okami (Wolf Yokai) Eye Colour: Bright Green Coat: A rich, Beige shade of brown. Mane & Tail: Has a rather full mane of grey hair, with curious streaks of minty green only visible in some light at certain angles. Physique: Stocky and muscular Kirin Form True Form: Residence: Considers a large mountain range north of Mount Kaminichi his and his family’s territory, known commonly as the Green Mist mountains. Currently has a small shack at the base of the mountain by a town closer to civilization where he will meet with tourists who wish to see the area (in pony form of course). Occupation: Mountain Guide. Cutie Mark: Has no natural one but in his qilin form he makes use of a mark depicting two mountain peaks partly shrouded by mist. Unique Traits: Mist Manipulation: As a yokai native to the mountains, Taira is very familiar with mists, clouds and high altitudes. As he grew he shaped his magical power to become more intune with them until he was able to generate his own mist from within himself and even have it come off of his fur like a great cape of glowing vapor. After lifetimes of training and effort and more than a few life or death struggles, Taira has managed to make the mists he summons a tactical boon, a weapon, and a utility at once. When outside his territory he is able to create mist-screens that can cover more than an acre of land to hide himself or his allies, or at the cost of lessening the mist’s coverage he can create forms of living mists capable of following simple orders, but being very easily dissipated and fragile. For other occasions he is capable of shaping mist into other forms and making them tough enough to serve as shields or soft enough to cushion a great fall. He has even conjured some around his paws that let him run through the skies. Supernatural Sense of Smell: As a wolf Taira’s nose is exceptionally sharp, as an okami his nose is better than even the best normal wolf. In his own territory he has proven able to smell intruders from miles away on his best days. His nose has proven the bane of many a mage trying to explore many ruins on the mountains as he is able to smell through most forms of magic and track down casters just by being in the area where they last used a spell of some-kind. However a sense of smell is just that, a sense of smell: and can be outwitted by anyone masking their scent well or just by overwhelming him with powerful scents. Territorial Empowerment: For reasons even he is not entirely understanding of, Taira’s degree of power is greatly tied to his native territory and that of his pack. While in the mountain range he calls home, he is powerful enough to completely cover the tops of the mountains in his own magical mists and hide it from view of any who might try to spy on his kin. When he leaves the area in order to bring back food however his power can fade rapidly. At his most magical weakened state he would say he is reduced to the level of a highly trained breath magic practitioner, but the amount of mist he can produce is greatly diminished and he is left with his more physically bound endowments. Supernatural Athleticism: Being a being with inborn magic has it’s perks. His long life and exercises allow Taira immense stamina and incredible degree of speed, combined with a lesser, but still impressive degree of strength. Hitodama Conjuration: While Taira is in no way as gifted as foxes are with the mysterious flames, the old wolf is capable of summoning and generating several wisps at once, one large one flaring up above his head in his true form most of the time. These flames however are completely harmless and only serve to give him an interesting light show once in awhile. Breathing and Lung Capacity: Taira has learned the hard way that he is capable of holding his breath for incredibly long amounts of time, having been able to survive being submerged underwater for several hours while wounded. This has proven to be quite useful as well as a way to get the drop on potential meals or just help cleaning around the house. Sometimes he wonders if his lungs are bigger on the inside. Overwhelming Presence: Being a powerful magical entity even outside of his territory, Taira has a sort magical presence that can be felt by those well versed in magic or other yokai. Most average ponies are unable to feel it unless Taira either unintentionally or willingly lets it loose. The best way to describe this presence is almost like a beacon that will broadcast any particularly powerful emotions he is experiencing in a large radius around him. While it doesn’t cause any damage or harm anyone, it can greatly unnerve many creatures, such as birds in trees suddenly flying off, the hair on someone’s neck standing on end, or just switching on a fight or flight reflex. The most intense this presence has gotten was during the time Niju and his pup was stolen by the hunters, where Taira’s rampage and malicious anger was able to felt across the countryside and resulted in many villager fleeing their towns until he finally retreated. Shapeshifting: While very old and skilled in many ways, Shape-shifting haunt been a strong suit for Taira. Most of his forms will always have some aspect of his true form 'leaking' into his disguise. With some assistance and lessons from Niju however he has managed to perfect a kirin disguise that doesn't require him to hide his horns as much. No matter what form he takes he will almost always have bright green eyes, and the scars of the past on him. History: A long time ago in ancient Neighpon… Before the rise of cities and magitech, before the great shogunate, and before even the war that shook the land… there was pack of okami who lived on a misty mountain range north Mount Kaminichi. Here is where Taira’s story begins. This pup was born quiet, so much that at first they worried he may not have made it. It turned out the puppy was merely peaceful, and so the parents give him a name that matched. As a pup Taira was a curious and despite his peacefulness at birth he showed a fondness for play fights of youth. Often he would travel down the mountains, further north to see what laid beyond the mists. When he ventured down one day he what looked like a great brown hill climbing up the mountain and towards his homeland. Choosing to investigate he along with a sibling discovered this hill was actually another yokai, a bear, but this one was… different. It barely spoke, acted more feral than any of their mystical kind and didn’t hesitate to attack the pair, stalking the two pups through the woods until they were cornered. Soon though the pack had seen the commotion and defended their home… At least they tried to, the great bear was fought but its immense size combined with its raw magical might drove back the pack and forced them to retreat to the base of the mountains. This demon bear was not a problem only to the wolves it seemed: Various other yokai had been driven out of their territory and forced to fall back and make new homes in unfamiliar places. At the bottom of the mountain, Taira learned the beast’s name: Shinku-no-Kabuto. The pup took that name to heart. In some way Taira felt responsible for what had happened in that he had attempted to communicate with Shinku… and as a result the pack had to move away from it’s place of power. Now they were all left scattered at the base of the mountains in unfamiliar forests. The first few months were turbulent to say the least. Many of the smaller yokai were already not fond of wolves and the pack barely got any sympathy from their closest relatives of the Inugami and Ha-Inu. There was a small group of Taira’s pack that were planning to try and take back the mountains, even though by this point they could tell that the land had no more of their natural magics in it: having been replaced by Shinku’s corrupting influence. They learned more bears had been moving to the mountain tops… surely becoming the monster bear’s minions and guards for his territory. Soon the small presence in the pack spread beyond it. A union of various yokai had joined together… and even a few of ponies coming to the lands had decided to help the yokai reclaim their territory. Taira lended his aid by borrowing books on conflict from some of mortal traders. The now ‘teenage’ wolf took the knowledge within to heart and lead several smaller packs to sabotage many routes the bears would take and stage traps for them. Usually Taira was the bait seeing as he was the fastest runner and could hide his friends in mist. As lesser minions of the great bear on the mountain grew few and far between, a great roar echoed across the lands below. All of the yokai in the alliance knew what it was: a challenge. Taira figured that it was most likely to end in a battle at the peak of the tallest mountain near mount Kaminichi. When the allied Yokai came and fought they had learned Shinku had left his strongest lieutenants in the path of the armies to slow their advance and weaken them before they reached him. Shinku declared this challenge on the night of a great blizzard so turning back would be nearly impossible for those involved… except maybe the kamaitachi. The Night seemed to go on forever. Many Yokai having fallen and others joining to take on demon bear in one final match to decide the future of the mountain range and northern neighpon. Various Yokai groups fought against the bear territory guards, drawing Shinku’s forces thin enough that a ‘small’ force of the best fighters could slip deeper into the mountains and confront Shinku in his great palace of stone. There were a hundred of them and by the night’s end they would lose ninety percent of their ranks.. One of the casualties of the nightlong battle was actually the pack’s alpha male who wound up taking a swipe meant for Taira by Shinku himself. The second alpha managed to wound him only be smashed into the snow, but survive. Eventually Taira and a few mismatched yokai, and one earth pony were left. The earth pony had brought some product of Neighponese engineering with him: Some sort of fireworks launcher. He’d managed to miraculously keep it dry enough to still function. A small tactical retreat turned into a very rushed plan to end the demon bear once and for all. Taira and the last surviving alpha struck great gashes at the beast with their teeth, Shinku being a great red beast of malice leaving a trail of crimson across the snow. Still he was not slowed down. The two wolves continued their battle until they drew Shinku to a cave whose mouth they had covered in thin layer of Taira’s Mist. In order to keep the enraged yokai from noticing what laid inside the hidden cave Taira was going to have to keep focused even as his wounds made him woozy. He managed to keep the shroud up long enough for Shinku to position his chest over the cave mouth and the pony to fire several fireworks into the beast’s belly, just as the bear delivered a swipe to Taira’s chest sending the wolf flying several yards away. With smoke rising from Shinku’s gut the group breathed a sigh of relief , believing the day finally won. Instead the beast rose once more, and crushed the firework cannon and knock the wind out of second alpha of the pack, Taira rose up once last time. Seeing the great bear’s movements were slow and clumsy and delivered on last attack that finished off the menace of the mountains. WIth the previous alphas gone the pack chose Taira to lead them for the foreseeable future. With what he thought was the worst of it behind him and his pack, Taira made it personal mission to remove every last shred of Shinku’s trace for the Green Mist Mountains and allowed many yokai who had joined the alliance free passage through the mountains. The members of his pack left got to work and within a year's time the only trace left of Shinku was in his palace and in the spot where he was finished. Taira’s days at the top of the mountain with his clan was one of the favorite times in his life. These days lasted only a few short years… well, short for taira in retrospective. During his time as a unchallenged alpha he caught the strangest scent and commotion from the edge of the mountains. He had heard that many of the ponies and some visitors from the east who had dragon features, were having trouble with these strange horned invaders from somewhere very cold. These ‘Care-eh-boo’ were beginning to come closer and closer to the mountains. They brought engines and things of strange wood to the base and soon there was noise! The horned invaders were attempting to hollow out the side of his pack’s mountain in a mining operation. This insult to his pack’s territory would not stand and an avalanche that destroyed a great deal of the caribou’s operation would signal the start of another war for Taira to fight in. This time however he was much older and more powerful than when he’d fought Shinku. Still, he lead and directed his pack along with volunteers from other yokai species in attacks and sabotage against the caribou contingents sent to conquer the north. ON the few times Taira and his forces met the caribou in open battle, Taira would often manage to out maneuver the leader of the northern invasion, yet still meet him several times on the battlefield. This Caribou was a fearsome creature, someone who fought with ferocity and cunning. In their final confrontation he managed to get a good cut in across Taira’s snout, Taira however would wind up taking off one of the general’s hind legs. With his forces in shambles and already the invasion forces in the southern portions of the island country being driven back by a united Neighpon, The general would flee back to his homeland. When he war with Whitescar ended Taira learned that several of the yokai and the ponies who’d helped get them this far calling him something with a nice ring to it: Ookami-No-Taisho (The Wolf General … or if read a certain way ‘Great Spirit General’) This was a name that spread across the region in time, while Taira simply desired to return home and contemplate some things about himself and his pack as a whole. These wars had gone on for a long time and he’d lost many a good wolf, leaving more than a few parentless pups. Taira had also heard of an increase in poaching of his kind. Apparently the mortals had a soft spot for the fur of his species… and were keen to take it by force. Taira requested that his pack try to stay in the mountains as long as they could for their own safety. Such a request however wasn’t one many of the younger wolves could hope to follow. Soon Taira knew only that most of his pack had left the mountains and with all the other yokai busy licking their wounds he could tell no one was going to attempt to take the mountains while he was gone. Eventually even Taira had felt an urge to wander: To see the world he had managed to help preserve through his actions. In his travels, Taira came to learn more about these ponies. They were clever! He still owed the defeat of Shinku to their ingenuity in the past and now some of the things he was seeing were even more impressive… if somewhat off putting for him to see. While he wandered, he was far from understanding of local customs. Most of the time the villagers would think he was some mad pony who would stumble through their villages, get things to eat, watching them work and then leave. In some of the villages however there were moments his true form was exposed in one situation or another. ONe of his least glamorous moments was when a trio of pig yokai (katakirauwa) Who decided to give him a sample of of sake for the first time in his life… Taira wound up drunk enough that he engaged in a playful chase with the three pigs. By the time the sun came up he’d woken up to see he’s blown down all three of their dwellings and they demanded some form of recompense. Taira, being both hungover and superbly embarrassed offered them a place of sanctuary among his mountain range if they ever got into any trouble. The event that night had been seen by the villagers of that town however and many of them remember the day a giant wolf covered in green mist chased a trio of one eared, pigs with glowing eyes through the streets of their home. One time on a day when hunting wasn’t going well and he was desperate for something to eat, Taira would see a small kirin filly traveling alone through the woods. As she hopped she would drop small bits of fragrant treats and carefully, Taira would trail behind her to snap them up until she reached a hutt in the middle of the forests. Inside was an elderly kirin who was seemingly stuck in bed. She looked rather small so he was sure there was no way that the two could finish all the food they had, So he popped his head up from the window and asked if he could try some… only to forget he’d not taken his disguise and in a panic the two kirn would bolt from the cabin and leave the food. Finders keepers! He thought before eagerly digging in and leaving just as they returned with a stallion brandishing something mean looking. Hoping to keep from starting an unnecessary fights from home, He allowed the stallion a strike to his side and hurled himself into a river where he held his breath for several hours until the family left and he could sneak away. AFter leaving more than a few tales of both funny and thrilling exploits all over the north and some of the south, Taira would return to the mountains. Many of his his stories are told today as folktales and the like, and he is in no hurry to prove them true or false, nor was he back when he returned to the mountain range. While there Taira would find peace and quiet among its peaked and in the large grove hidden among them. Here he spent many days in quiet contemplation even as more of his pack left to see the rest of the world. There were dull moments of course, but he still had a few friends from other yokai species would come by. Soon though something new arrived. Another wolf. One different from the kinds he’d met before. She was a bit on the small side and she smelled of the city. That loud and busy place south of of the mountains. Her name was Nijurkuya Hane and she was a bit odd. He’d not met a wolf who’d come so far in his territory for no reason other than to play. He let her stay and with most of his old pack gone they had the range to themselves. This time together eventually lead to love. SHe convinced him to go out again and see some of the changes in the world since he last roamed it and he agreed. The two wandered the countryside and visited many places together, her teaching him some easier ways to fit in amongst the equines. Before they had finished their trip, Niju was expecting pups. Taira, was at first panicking seeing as they were already far from their territory and he didn’t know if he could sufficiently protect her while they were born. During this time Taira and Niju discovered they were being tracked by okai poachers… He and niju tried to find a safe spot to deliver and while it was very touch and go, soon the pups were born. WHile Taira went out to get food for niju though, the hunters had found them again and managed to snatch one of the pups from Niju while they rested just AS taira arrived. The hunters tried to get more but the large wolf made short work of them. The time they bought for the other hunter however put him far out of reach and Taira didn't want to risk more coming. Thankfully, it turned out they were in the area of a forest Okami by the name of KamiKakushi no Shinrin. Taira requested that his mate and her pups stay with the spirit while he tried to capture the stolen runt of the litter. KamiKakushi agreed but only at the cost of a set of plates that they couple had brought back from their travels around Neighpon. THe two gave him the plates and Taira went on something of a rampage around the countryside in search of his daughter, scaring more than a few inhabitants and eventually tracking down the hunter who sold her. She told him that she’d already sold the runt to some wealthy city pony. No One is sure of what happened to that poache. Taira went to the city and tried his best to scent his daughter out, but all the smells and odors of the city threw him off. Unable to find her he could only go back to Niju and hope that they could care for the pups they had. In time sadness would fade and the family would move on. Now, Taira, Niju and their pups live mostly on the mountains. Some of their children left to see the world, others stay and assist their father in protecting the mountain and one day wish to call this territory theirs and lead the pack. Truthfully Taira is eager for the day one of his pups will knock him from the top of the mountain as the he could actually relax and not worry so much about keeping them out of trouble all the time. In order to help feed his family, Taira has taken up a few side jobs. His most enjoyed one is something he admits could be considered somewhat stereotypical: His profession as a mountain guide. He has also considered expanding his territory so he can build a fishing business near the coastline so he can better feed the pack. For now though he is content to show over excited tourists or ambitious adventurers his territory for a fee and try to steer them out of harm's way. Summary: Taira is a old wolf (relatively) with a long history and many a story about him being told in the countryside of Northern Neighpon. He has a lived a long life and had quite a few adventures and forged a number of bonds across the country with some of the older Yokai. Nowadays he merely wishes for a quiet, occasionally lively life with his family. Around friends and the previously mentioned family, Taira is a generally cordial and curious wolf. Rather than a battle hardened, stoic, veteran of ancient wars. Taira can be described as something of a pleasant goof. He’s generally eager to get to experience new things, food especially and can be something of a klutz while in his kirin form. On his downtime he rather enjoys fishing, both the natural way and in the ponies’ way. He enjoys going out drinking, even though he is horrible at holding his sake and can be rendered completely drunk from two cups alone. This wolf’s less desireable traits might be his tendency to get somewhat caught up in the past when wounds from it reopen. If he’d learned about that he left something unfinished or something important behind on his many adventures in his long life he is consumed by an urge to gain a degree of closure around those events. Along with that minor compulsion, Another fault of his would be a strange temper: He’s very much a wolf who is very slow to anger, but when is angry he can stay that way for much longer. While Taira has improved from his early days of equine and dragonpony interaction, he still experiences slip ups and will accidently keep some lupine mannerisms. One example is he still tends to sniff new acquaintances unless stopped by someone more experienced blending in (usually Niju). Some of the events in his past have left a degree of scarring upon him, not just in the physical sense. The events of the conflict with Shinku leave him deeply disturbed and uncomfortable about the snow. To this day as well, He is still very wary and untrusting of bears or bear youkai.
  18. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria Name: Kyūsoku ni Ochiru Sakura no Seishin, which translates to "Spirit of the Swiftly Falling Cherry Blossoms." She no longer remembers her full name, and is simply called Ochiru, or "Falling." Sex: Feale Age: Unknown, presumed very old. Species: Ōkami Yokai. Eye color: Unknown. Ochiru has no discernible face, but instead has a white mask with black eyes on it. Occasionally, bright green pinpoints of light seem to shine from the mask, but for the most part the eyes of the mask remain wholly black. Coat: Ochiru's body is mostly a pale cream, with a white underbelly that runs from her neck down the insides of her legs. Her coat has a speckled pattern that vaguely resembles falling cherry blossom petals, which dots her back down to the tops of her legs in soft red and pink hues. Part of her fur rises and transitions into a ribbon-like material, starting from the top of her forelegs and wrapping around the back of her neck. It floats and rustles of its own accord thanks to Ochiru's innate magic. Mane/Tail: Various rainbow hues make up a long and flowing tail, which tends to arch around her head in a crescent moon shape whenever she is sitting or standing still. As with the scarf-like material that wraps around her neck, her tail shifts and floats due to her inherent magic. She also sports two antlers on her head, which mimic cherry blossom branches, complete with shifting flowers and leaves during the changing of seasons. Physique: Ochiru is lithe and slender, moreso than most of her Ōkami kin. She stands about the height of a lean and tall Unicorn, but is about three times the length from snout to quarters. Residence: N/A. She wanders around Neighpon, and has yet to really settle down anywhere to call it home. Occupation: N/A. Unique Traits: After the destruction of her cherry blossom grove, Ochiru lost most of her magical abilities. Because of this, she is not as powerful as most Ōkami Yokai are. She can use basic telekinesis for the most part, and a little bit of illusionary magic to help her escape from tight spots. Her ability to shape shift has become limited to the form of a small foal, and even that she cannot manage to hold for too long. Ochiru also has the capability to make flora bloom and grow, though this power tends to come and go seemingly at random. Her magic is, however, stronger whenever she is around cherry blossom trees, and she is almost always seeking them out wherever she wanders. Thanks to her waning powers, the Ōkami is not as physically fit as she used to be as well. She can move swiftly with large bursts of speed, but otherwise moves at an almost meandering pace, a languid shuffle as if she has all the time in the world to get where she is going. Ochiru is still capable of moving in ways unnatural to wolves and other wild animals, meaning a walk along a steep ledge or across treetops is no trouble - at least not for extended periods of time. While not overtly weak, Ochiru tends to get tired easily, sometimes even resting for days at a time. Ochiru's antlers and, to a lesser extent, her coat and tail change with the seasons. Much like a normal cherry blossom tree, the antlers will grow flowers for most of the spring, before dropping them for leaves that change from green in the summer to various reds in the fall. During winter, her antlers remain bare. Her fur and tail, on the flip side, do not fully change colors, but become more vibrant during the summertime, before becoming more saturated as the colder months roll in. History: Ochiru, formally known as Kyūsoku ni Ochiru Sakura no Seishin, has lost track of time over the years, but remembers her first memory being that of blooming cherry blossom trees above her eyes. She would later discover that that moment had been the first blooming of the recently planted cherry blossoms in spring, but at the time, Kyūsoku ni Ochiru Sakura no Seishin knew nothing other than the fact that she was home. The Ōkami Yokai kept mostly to herself as her grove grew, and more cherry blossoms kept being added to it. She was a peaceful and curious sort, but never adventurous, preferring to stay reclusive and simply watch the going-ons around her. As her grove grew, it became a popular spot for locals and some foreigners to visit and enjoy. Oftentimes Kyūsoku ni Ochiru Sakura no Seishin hid when this happens, but sometimes, she would grow curious and go out to meet these ponies. Soon, it became commonplace to offer food and baubles to the peaceful Yokai that would shower visitors with petals or provide fresh water for their travels. Alhough she was known to the locals in her immediate area, the grove became known nation-wide as the home of a cherry blossom spirit, thus earning the Yokai her name. Those peaceful days came to a sudden and abrupt end, when a fierce conflict broke out in the nearby village that spread to her cherry blossom grove. The grove was irreparably destroyed in the fighting, but Ochiru was able to keep herself hidden enough for the fighting to pass by, leaving mostly ash and charred tree trunks. She doesn't remember exactly how long she sat in the destruction, nor does she remember her exact state of mind during this time. Her next coherent memory would be looking up to see the face of a Spider Yokai, approaching her in the middle of the grove's remains. She learned that the Yokai, named Nosk, had returned to the site of the battle after watching it for some time, and even attempted to regrow and replant it himself as Ochiru blankly watched. However, his efforts failed, causing him to realize that the grove have been damaged beyond repair, even by the efforts of another Yokai. Nosk's actions, though, had regrown one thing. After years of listlessness and misery sitting in her destroyed grove, Nosk's efforts proved to be enough to spark something within the Ōkami, enough for her to slip out of the fog she'd been living in and take note of the world around her once more. With his efforts having failed, the Spider Yokai ended up leaving the grove to question himself, attempting to discover for himself the nature of fighting and its purpose, and Ochiru ended up going along with him - less asking permission and simply following along behind him. Rather than rail at or seek revenge against the other, it was a natural instinct for the peaceful Ōkami to cling to the other Yokai, propelling her onward in life where she might have wasted away in the remains of her home. It took years for the Spider Yokai to come to some sort of internal peace with himself, but with no purpose in her own life, Ochiru continued to follow along behind Nosk, and he would soon turn into her closet companion. Soon Ochiru was well enough to begin wandering on her own. She and Nosk split up from time to time, but always found each other again. It was during her most recent solo venture, however, that the Yokai ran afoul of some hunters, who were quick to capitalize on the weakened Ōkami and sell her on the black market. Ochiru became the prized possession of a wealthy family, who - ironically - provided a large, enclosed garden area with a plethora of cherry blossom trees for her to reside in. The young daughter of the family took a special shine to the Ōkami, one that was returned. Where other Yokai might have despaired or sought to escape, the familiar surroundings of the cherry blossom trees, plus the friendship she formed with the daughter, actually brought peace to Ochiru, to where she became quite comfortable in her new home. It was after the daughter had grown up and left her family that Ochiru began to wilt again. Having lost her pet project in nurturing and tending to the lonely filly, the Ōkami grew restless inside the gilded walls of the home. Being around cherry blossom trees for several years had provided some measure of her strength back, and with a little bit of illusion magic and some help from a clever and sly Nosk, the Ōkami was back out in the wild. Despite her previous experience, she made no effort to avoid settlements or small cities of ponies, especially now as she has taken to wandering with her long-time friend once more. Traveling close to villages, and even the high density cities, has proven much easier with a disguised Yokai as her companion - even if said Yokai has to often explain the Ōkami trailing closely behind him. Character Personality: There is something just a little bit off about the Wolf Yokai that wanders the wilderness of Neighpon, especially since said wanderings tend to bring her into actual pony cities and villages. Ochiru is a mild-mannered and passive sort of Yokai that likes going on her business with an unassuming air, her lacking magic cautioning her from utilizing too much energy in any one sitting. Combined with the expressionless mask that makes up her face, it is often difficult to get a read on the Yokai's feelings, almost as if she isn't really thinking anything even while she's talking. Seemingly as blank as her mask in the way she approaches life, Ochiru is an enigma to many ponies that attempt to discern her true feelings. In truth, something became broken in the Yokai after the destruction of her home, which has culminated in an almost child-like approach to the world. Ochiru likes peace and simplicity, and can be joyous and playful when in the company of other, excitable ponies, usually expressed in her body language and by how much energy she uses to leap from place to place. Conversely, the Ōkami doesn't really express negative emotions that well - if something saddens her, Ochiru is most likely to express her feelings in a single, solitary word, rather than an outpouring of emotion. Stillness and quiet become her friends as she takes in the negative, responding with an almost childlike manner as if she doesn't really understand what is happening. The mask doesn't help conveying her feelings at all, which can make her appear to be aloof or completely removed by whatever is going on at the time. The destruction of her grove also destroyed Ochiru's purpose in life, to protect and cherish the cherry blossoms she resided in. The Wolf Yokai wanders Neighpon without any sense of direction or purpose, other than basic survival and enjoying Nosk's company. While she has grown to enjoy traveling to distant areas and seeing the rest of the world, Ochiru misses having a sense of purpose, and unconsciously searches for fulfillment of that feeling. If she were any wild animal, some might call it a misplaced maternal instinct. Ochiru tends to take on simple projects and nurture them wherever she goes, be it an individual pony who's suffering for some reason, or a small group of plants that are not flourishing well. This has caused some problems thanks to her inability to shape shift. An adventure into Polohama was once met with a swift retreat, but otherwise, the wandering Yokai has gotten a reputation in settlements and villages outside the major cities, thanks to her tendency to simply wander inside them at will. Even despite being captured and charted around on the black market, Ochiru still has no qualms about wandering near ponies in her true form, almost as if she simply doesn't care about her own safety. Traveling with Nosk in his disguised pony form greatly dampens the dangers she faces when alone, but in truth, Ochiru is simply too listless and simplistic to think and strategize about potential threats, only responding when said dangers actually arrive. Otherwise, she goes about her life as if she is completely removed from it, only inserting herself back into the world when desired. Character Summary: Seemingly an aloof and mysterious Yokai that seems almost as blank as the mask on her face, Ochiru is simply a peaceful and quiet Ōkami that desires a purpose in her life again. While generally friendly and cordial, there remains something off about the strange Yokai and her eternally expressionless face.
  19. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria Name: Shuài Hóu Wáng (Handsome Monkey King), usually goes by 'Monkey' Sex: Male Age: Atleast Six Hundred Years (Most of these spent asleep/imprisoned) Species: Sarugami (Monkey Yokai) Eye Colour: Golden Yellow Coat: In his usual form, Shu is covered in thick (if scruffy) fire red fur that covers light tan skin. In his pony form his hide has become a light golden colour. Mane/Tail: All his red fur has become his mane in his pony form, thick and shaggy forming a rough beard. Physique: Either in his Sarugami or pony form, Shu is a BIG boy; in his usual form he just about scrapes seven feet in all his monkey Yokai goodness - where as in his pony form he is still clearly a good couple of feet taller and bulkier than the average stallion. Residence: The Mountain of Flowers and Fruits | Currently imprisoned by a magical seal in a Temple Occupation: Self proclaimed 'Monkey King' | Chaotic Prankster | Folklore Figure Cutie Mark: Shu has no cutiemark in his pony form, he thinks them ridiculous - however due to the seal imprisoning him he will most likely have that on his flank whenever he changes into his pony form. Unique Traits: Yokai Magic; Including the usual shapeshifting, changing his size from the likes of a bumblebee to a mid sized elephant and trickery that Yokai are known for, Shu is capable of using his fur to make ephemeral clones that can last for about an hour depending on how healthy or stressed Shu is. They can only do simple things like move objects, but if they get damaged they turn back into hairs. (After the release, he will only be able to summon two to three clones at once.) Super Strength; Both physically and magically, Shu has a great amount of strength in him. Being able to lift atleast thirty times his weight with relative ease. There are obvious limitations, he cannot put too much strain or lift too much weight otherwise he will start to struggle. However this also means he's capable of jumping rather far due to the strength in his legs. Golden Eyes of Truth Seeing; The golden eyes were a relatively new trait that Shu picked up several moons before his actual imprisonment - he can see through the disguises and enchantments of other magic users. Seeing them for what they are instead of what they're pretending to be. This comes in handy when he just wants to tease them and watch them squirm in front of everypony. Somersault Cloud; Less a trait, more a piece of magic he stole from Longri-La. The magic city held in the clouds, made OF clouds obviously had some intriguing properties to Shu and so he stole a part of the magic clouds. After several moons, the cloud became obedient and bonded to Shu helping the otherwise flightless Sarugami an easy mode of transport. History: Folklore surrounding specific Yokai in Neighpon and Long Guo aren't completely unheard of, one particular folklore figure started many generations ago on a small patch of craggy land between the two nations in the heart of the sea. Many ponies like to make up that he was born from a great stone egg swept from the sea, caressed by the winds and so forth, in reality he was born from one of the very few Sarugami - or Monkey Yokai - that hadn't been taken for exotic entries in beastiaries and open zoo's for the study of Yokai by the magically inclined or much worse for those who could seek a profit from them. However his birth was met alone as when he opened his eyes, any mother he might've seen had left him in the middle of a forest at the base of a mountain deep of Long Guo. For most of his early years, the little Sarugami was raised by a local troop of monkeys upon the mountain that was affectionately called Mount Huaguo, or the Mount of Fruit and Flowers. It was a happy time, he grew into himself, his powers, he was well loved by his surrogate family and he loved them in equal measure. Soon enough with the growth into adolescence and the further exploration of his powers and Long Guo as a whole however, he soon became more and more curious of the ponies of the country. Especially their magic. A hermit scholar and sorcerer of ancient magics by the name of Suhbeti took the Sarugami under his hoof and taught him the ways of pony kind. Their culture, their views of the world and their magic to which he took very well, imbuing his own trickery laden Yokai craft with that of the ponies and it didn't take long for him to grow an earnest respect for the elderly stallion who gave him the name; Shuài Hóu Wáng. Eventually he returned home, full of knowledge and full of energy as he grew into adulthood. Using his magic, he used it to protect his little troop of monkeys from all that would plague them, from hunters to ponies that would threaten the forest in and around their territory. It also gave him a chance to explore other parts of Long Guo and even Neighpon. He even found the time to make friends with other Yokai that he often visited when he became more confident in his powers - such as shapeshifting - to travel to Neighpon and visit those there and for those that lived in the further stretches of Long Guo. Of the most notable of his friends, Yanhua the nine-tailed KitShue was one of them. But eventually his initial innocent view of the magic he'd been taught and the Sarugami's natural penchant for mischief soon bore him into another facet of life. Chaos. Itchy fingers soon turned to pranks that he roped many of his yokai friends into pulling on innocent ponies, from farmers to even the then current Emperor of Long Guo - who obviously had more back up when he became more vocal about Shu's mischief and the Serpent Council had to step in. Unfortunately they and the Serpent King Ao Shenlong were no strangers to his mishief either, having taken a fair few of his yokai friends to Longri-La and took several things from the beautiful kingdom. Including a vial of magic pills that gave his golden eyes magical sight and a chunk of Longri-La's own enchanted cloud structure. When they asked for his apology, the Monkey King only greeted them with barking laughter and some disdain for feeling looked down on by the glorious Serpent King - though it wasn't Ao Shenlong intent - so Shu continued his mischief. This went on for several moons, every time the Monkey King would slip from the grasp of Serpent Dragon and Pony guard alike until eventually the Serpent Council and King decided upon a plan to put Shu in his place. Ao Shenlong issued a challenge to Shu Wukong, who had become boastful and big headed in his shows of power and ofcourse would never say no to a challenge if it meant showing up the glorious Serpent King, who wagered that the Monkey King could never actually turn into as many forms as he said he could - to which he boasted fourty seven individually - Shu ofcourse put this to a bet. His terms were dangerously out of line, for he said he won the bet that he would become the Emperor of Long Guo and the monkeys of Huaguo would rule the country instead of the ponies. And as risky as it was, Ao Shenlong and the Serpent Council agreed to the terms. The whole day Shu transformed, starting from the biggest and getting smaller and smaller till he was nothing but the size of a bumblebee - however so exhausted from his use of power he didn't expect the Serpent King and the Council to use their magic on him. Immediately the proud Sarugami was put into an indefinite sleep and sealed away within a large ball of jade, which was then put away in a temple atop one of Long Guo's many mountains and kept secret to all bar the Serpent King, the Serpent Council and Emperor of Long Guo. And there he stays in a semi-permanent 'time out' within his prison of jade, locked behind a magic seal that none but the Serpent King, his descendants, the Serpent Council and the royal bloodline of the last Emperor can unlock. The magic seal itself was made in two parts, the first to lock him away and the second that if it should be unlocked and he continues his mischief - that a certain chant passed down through generations of both royal families and the council will keep the yokai cowtowed and obedient. But then again, to all others bar those who know best. This is only a folklore. Character Personality: Shu is...a brute to say the least. He's blunt, impulsive, cocky and inquisitive with no real thinking of anyone's comfort than his own which gets him into trouble far too easily. Often prone to invading personal spaces, playing pranks and jokes on ponies he really shouldn't be or just downright making a donkey's uncle out of himself for nopony's amusement but his own and not considering the long term consequences. This has been ingrained into him after years of pride in his own abilities and his natural penchant for trickery being a Sarugami. Deeper into his core he's a surprisingly laid back and even intelligent individual despite his chaotic neutral standpoint and 'action before thought' tendencies that he's grown into, like he's grown aversive of anything close to sleep or slowing down - which isn't surprising given the magic he was put under for him imprisonment. He comes off as aloof or uncaring to otherpony's emotional states, but mostly because he has no idea how to respond to anything overly emotional. If somepony was crying infront of him - he would most likely lock up and watched them perplexedly till they stop or attempt a half-baked pat on the back because 'that's what you do when someone's sad 101'. It's not out of any spite, unless he truly dislikes you, it's mostly out of a lack of understanding of non Yokai and non monkeys. Monkeys he can read. Ponies, even with his teachers aid, he still has trouble grasping now and then. Character Summary: Shu is a powerful force of Yokai prankster energy brought to heel for his misdemeanors in the past. What the future holds for him? Nopony really knows, it'll either be very chaotic. Or very fun. Or even both considering this barrel of royal monkey madness.
  20. Name: Goutou Wa No Shippo Alias: Goutou Washippo, Taizoku, Konoha, Horo-sha, and nowadays Gotohiko Sex: Male Age: … Old enough Species: Tanuki (racoon dog) Yokai Eye colour: Purple Coat: Rich shades of brown Physique: In his true form, Goto is a racoon dog only slightly larger than a pony with a long flowing, and voluminous tail. While a great deal of the ‘bulk’ in his form could easily be assumed as fur, he is still remarkably very strong and practised and usually, the guises he takes will follow that theme. As of now, he appears as a somewhat roguish looking young earth pony with a curious fluffy tail and a mane of messy curls along with a fluffy tail with a ringed pattern. Residence: Has a large territory in the Neighponese countryside, tends to rest in the long ruined remains of a temple to the Harmonious Path. Occupation: Bandit and Master Thief Cutie Mark: Has no natural cutie mark, but will usually appear with a tan jug with a racoon tail around it. Unique Traits: Master Combatant: While Goto has been separate from his clan for many years, the skills they had taught him back when he was with them have not dulled. Goto is a very fit and considerably quick. He has an impressive knowledge of neighponese martial arts that has accumulated over his long life. Yokai Magic: Goto has honed his skills with the illusory magic of yokai to very impressive levels, His magical skill strong enough to cast a detailed illusion of a nobleman’s large estate, and detailed enough that it was nearly indistinguishable from the original. It can be very tiresome to maintain large illusions though and a result Goto tends to stick to more small scale illusions or the simpler spells such a telekinesis. Thanks to some bad experiences with fox’s in the past, he’s refused to make use of the ghostly fires and instead makes heavy use of... Leaf Magic: Due to his close relationship with forests, Goto has learned how to magically manipulate and control leaves, even channel his magic through them. He has learned to enlarge and strengthen them enough to serve as shields tough as steel or as handy getaway gliders. Shapeshifting: History: Long, long ago in ancient Neighpon. There was a clan of tanuki who lived in a large patch of land in the countryside. This small clan were a curious lot, often playing games with Ronin and other travelling warriors. Some of them even began to learn how to mimic them and practised their moves. This became something of a fad around the clan with many pups following along to their elders as they taught them the amazing things the ponies had learned to do. One day though, a threat arose. Large horned beasts from across the great seas, they brought with them fire, strength, and suffering for all who settled on this land. In those long ago days, The Narushippo clan would rise up alongside the united ponies, kirin, and ryuma and assist in fighting for their home. They’d gained the support of the daimyo of their land and would join with the troops, sewing illusions for the raiders who came. By the war's end, they had gained some notoriety in the daimyo’s land… and so he allowed them an official plot of land or at least legitimised the land that they said they already claimed. Goutou had been born into this clan. He had not been born to witness the tails of heroism from his clan and the war with the savage horned beasts. He did, however, grow up hearing about all of them. The little Tanuki being exceedingly proud of his clan and lineage when he was young, he would often spend hours practising his magic along with some martial arts, trying to recreate the incredible events with his youthful imagination. Days were full of mischief and excitement most days and save for the semi-regular poachers, things were alright. Over time though it seemed that the memory of their clan’s contributions had faded. Few ponies would come to their forest anymore. Houses and other things were beginning to pop up on the outskirts of their home, it wasn't a very welcome occurrence. Seeing as this was being built on the edge of their territory they let it pass. After the winter had come, gone and Goutou's clan entered hibernation, they had woken to something that in most of his clan inspired sorrow, but for Goutou, it only inspired anger: A large temple for the followers of the Harmonious Path had been erected in the middle of their territory! Most of the clan had decided that this was a sign that the Neighponese had forgotten them, that there was no sense in fighting this and that they had best move on to live with other families of yokai hidden away. Goutou thought that was a cowardly notion and took off almost immediately to the monastery. Disguised as a humble traveller, Got infiltrated their home and snuck in a large jug of sake, disguising it with his magic to look like tea when he offered some to the monks as thanks for their offer of shelter. By the night’s all the followers of the path were raucously drunk and after luring all of the monks out locked them out of the monastery, but not after convincing the head monk to relinquish his robes and that weird staff of his to him. Feeling thoroughly pleased with himself and hoping to send a message to the followers of the path, the entire complex burned throughout the night until it was left a ruin in the morning. When Goutou got back to his clan, hoping to be hailed a hero… he only received a scolding. Saying that his actions were brash and foolish, that they were going to leave this land and he would not be coming with them. As his clan disappeared from the horizon he shouted that he would be perfectly fine on his own without them. It didn’t take long before Goutou began to regret saying those things to his family, but he would never regret sticking it to those hooved creatures who stepped on his family-- then it hit him. Now this territory wasn’t just his family’s… It was entirely Goutou’s now. The tanuki for several years of his life had spent it scaring and playing pranks on any ponies, kirin, or longma until he eventually grew bored of being alone in the forests with no intelligent company. In order to fight off the loneliness, Goutou began to spend time around the ponies to amuse himself, taking a variety of forms in order to blend in and not be recognised when he came to the towns again. Goutou would make regular trips to the taverns bars and things so he could have some merriment, but even then that became difficult to satiate the strange restlessness in his being. One day, he would decide to take up a challenge. The local daimyo was showing off a very expensive jewel encrusted scabbard, as he paraded it downtown a certain inebriated bar-goer said someone should steal it and show that crazy noble what for, seeing as that money could probably have been used better. Goutou, who now extremely drunk on that night… woke up the next morning with the scabbard in paw and a severely freaked out Daimyo shrieking about their treasure being stolen by some ring tailed earth pony. That night had been rendered a blur in Goutou’s mind but he did recall having a good time. When another daimyo not far from his territory wound up parading a majestic tapestry around his land, Goutou decided he may as well try again. This time, however, he decided to let his victim know he was coming. Even with the stepped up security, Goutou managed to get into his compound, steal the tapestry and managed to do it without harming a hair on the heads of the guards or anyone inside. This was getting more and more fun. Over time Goutou began to play the role of a new member of a family of magical thieves who would harass nobility nearby the forests and steal their most valuable possessions. This hobby of his went on for a few generations with him taking on a new guise each time he appeared. Eventually, though he came into conflict with a fierce mare who was calling herself the queen of bandits: Tsuyoi Kazan. For the first time in His career of thieving, Goutou was foiled and her treasure remained in her grasp. Goutou never forgot his defeat and did find a measure of respect for the queen… enough that he managed to spend some time working for her in another disguise, it lasted long enough that he got to meet a few of the ‘queen’s’ children. One, in particular, seemed to stick out, her oldest, Jinsoku. Eventually, he ran into some trouble around the winter… when he would need to hibernate and return to his forest. Tsuyoi didn’t take the idea that he wished to leave well. On the night he tried to depart he had been tailed by hunters under the queen’s employ. Losing them was surprisingly difficult, and towards the end, he had no choice but attempt to fake his own demise. It was simple enough when they had cornered him on a cliff he ‘stumbled’ and fell down into a deep ravine below into the valley at a fall that would have ended to the story of a normal pony. Thankfully, Goutou wasn’t normal or a pony. Now free to live his life once more and go back to his home he went into his hibernation, waking the next spring and seeing what had changed. Not terribly much it seemed although according to rumour the queen’s family had grown larger. He knew he couldn’t show his face (or at least his previous one) and so he went to work fine tuning his appearance. Changing his visage until he looked different enough he could pass for a son of his last persona. Now with that done, he’d approached the bandit queen once again… introducing himself as Gotohiko and having come looking for his father. She told him her side of the story and he nodded along, deciding to join the band (Again) if only because he was sure she wouldn’t let him leave without paying back his ‘father’s’ debt. It was hardly an issue for him as this again allowed him a chance to acquaint himself to young Jinsoku. Soon enough he noticed some curious expressions and moments in which she would excuse herself… and eventually put together that she was up to something. Once he saw what she was up to… it piqued his interest. It seems the bandit princess had been running her own little gang on the side. Stealing from the rich and corrupt and giving back to the poor. If anything it was an interesting concept. When he approached her saying he’d like to join… he was rather surprised how quickly she agreed, only on the condition he does not snitch to her mother. He agreed to those terms, simple as they were and went on to join Jin’s gang as an illusionist later on when he grew to trust the princess enough to confide in her about his secret, meaning after enough jobs and one really long drinking night he let it spill and she was fine with it. Personality: Goto is a fairly relaxed individual if somewhat rough and tumble looking.Around fellow members of his gang he tends be a generally light hearted presence, if flirtatious and rather fond of the drink. His closest relationship of this day he’d say would be Jinsoku, After becoming interested in her project he’s become very supportive and treats those closest to him in the fold like family sometimes. As evidenced by his past he may be sometimes quick to anger, his retaliation is usually in the form of non-lethal if somewhat intimidating pranks. He still harbors a good deal of ill will to any followers of the harmonious path, and perhaps in the interest of messing with them he continues to wear the garb of the head monk of the old temple back in his forest, he even still carries the staff which he tends to chew on when he’s nervous.

    Kakushi Banner

    From the album: OC Art

Normally I put the character log artwork of my characters into compilation posts every so often, rather than posting them all separately. But I decided to upload Kakushi's log/post banner by itself, because I really love how this one turned out. I even like it a lot better than the original art I drew of him - there's something about it that just looks both more wolfish and more ethereal/mystical to me.
  22. Merit Would you instead care for a game of chance, perhaps? Name: Yu Jin He, Yu Kinokawa, usually goes by “Merit.” Sex: Male Age: Adult Species: Yokai, hebi Body Color: Onyx black scales that glimmer with a polished sheen. Belly scales are a polished gold that seem incapable of being tarnished by any semblance of dirt or filth. Unremarkable off-white coat in pony form. Mane/Tail Color and Style: As a hebi, no mane. However, has four horns like a classical western dragon, two atop his head that point backwards and two below those on each side that curl forward like ram’s horns. As a pony, a well-kept, trimmed mane that is jet black. A single stripe of gold is present about two thirds of the way up. He also keeps a very short trimmed beard of the same black. Eye Color: Green. Preserved in pony form. Physique: In natural form, a large serpent that would rival a young Long or an alicorn in size. In pony form, an average stature, albeit handsome middle-aged earth pony stallion. Residence: Has holdings in Long Kong, Polohama, Canterlot, Saraneighvo, Talonopolis, etc. Merit has a place to stay in any city be it because he owns property there or can acquire lodging of the highest caliber. Occupation: Entrepreneur, real estate mogul, all around rich guy. Cutie Mark: A black serpent that looks curiously similar to his yokai form curled around a collection of neatly stacked gold coins. Unique Traits Mathemagician. Merit has a head for numbers. He is able to effortlessly compute sums and estimate costs and quantities, making him a hellish negotiator to confront and a gambler nonpareil. Sneaky Snake. Like his yokai form would suggest, Merit always figures out ways to get around and through obstructions in his path whether literal or figurative. If a potential business partner becomes hostile, he will twist conditions around them to make them more amenable. He also has a tendency to arrive silently to social events or meetings, not being seen or heard unless he wishes to be. Whether this is through magic or simply shrewdness is at times difficult to tell. While spells are not his preferred means of conducting business, Merit has command of the magic that yokai naturally possess. This is mostly used to transform between his natural form and pony form as well as drop the occasional minor charm or hex to assist his otherwise entirely capable negotiation skills. Finally, he can summon mist on demand and vanish into it if necessary to either slip away or make a grand entrance. A River of Gold. Merit has accumulated a dragon’s horde worth of wealth in an extremely diversified portfolio spread out over several nations in his long lifetime. No matter where he goes, Merit is never at want for luxurious housing, excellent food, and royalty-level service. Any time an entourage of retainers or servants would be useful, it seems he can summon them at will. His pony form is the legal owner of a number of diversified properties across the world. Just snake things. While Merit is not truly cold-blooded, he is sensitive to cold and dislikes it extremely. He can be found wearing heavy (but stylish) clothing in any place with high elevation or low temperatures. Character History Growing up was so long ago that no others are alive to remember it. Merit himself rarely speaks of it, preferring instead to focus on the present. Suffice to say that the only relic of such a time was his name in Long: Yu Jin He, the river of gold, a place since lost to time. Merit’s long history meanders across the world in a series of acquisitions and sales. Beginning in the east, he worked his way west, first to the shores of Roam in Equestria, then to its neighbors. Each place he explored, he established new contacts, new properties, and a new node for his network. Eventually, he returned to the east a wealthy, self-made yokai. Personality As his chosen name suggests, Merit holds those who stand above their peers in high regard. This is tempered, however, by his skepticism of those whom he has not personally tested. He is perpetually polite thanks to years of slithering through high society and learning the ins and outs of both business and courtly affairs. This does not, however, mean he is a pushover. It is apparent when someone has incurred the ire of Yu Kinokawa and those who do often find things going wrong for them in short order. With wealth and privilege comes vanity and a touch of arrogance that individuals of lower standing might find repulsive. However, Merit is unapologetic in his pride, as he has earned every right to be proud of himself via hard work and sacrifice. To mere plebeians, Merit appears polite and at times even kind -- if not a bit patronizing. Merit is fond of games that involve cards, chance, and the clashing of personas. He is an exceptional gambler and does not hesitate to conduct business in one of his casinos either over drinks and a meal or even at the games tables. The thrill of the bet and the satisfaction of the deal is where Merit thrives. Even if he is bested, he celebrates a game well-played… so long as it was accomplished fairly. Woe to those who cheat Merit. As much as Merit coddles his vice of pride, he intensely dislikes those who came to their wealth or privilege without paying for it with their time and their energy; even less for those who have no idea the kind of influence they wield with their wealth. Merit mostly stays out of such affairs, preferring to avoid entanglements with such undesirables, but sometimes he goes so far as to indulge in the orchestration of their downfall.
  23. Name: Wūyā Yīnyîng Sex: Male Age: Adult Species: Yosuzume (a bird Yokai.) Disguises as a longma, usually. Eye Color: Blood red in his true form, a light pink in his pony form. Character Color: In both forms, his body is mainly a midnight purple in color, with certain parts a light gray. In his bird form, the gray is the feathers across his chest and belly, while in his pony form they take the form of his scales and the two small antler-like horns he sports. Mane/Tail: His pony form sports a short and simple mane, slicked back to keep it out of his face. His tail is not really styled either, just kept short. Both are a lighter purple. Physique: He is an impressive specimen, with a build that held strength in it even though it was built for agility and speed. His bird form is just as tall, though he can shrink himself down to blend in as a regular bird too. Residence: The Imperial Palace of Long Guo Occupation: Member of the Imperial Watch. Cutie Mark: The mark he gave to his disguise is a simple one, a blue shooting star splitting in two about halfway down. Unique Traits: Clones: A trait inherited from his species, he has the ability to create clones of himself with magic, allowing him to be his own flock should the need arise. It also proves to be useful in scouting and combat, being able to create your own reinforcements. Shapeshifting: Like other Yokai, he has the ability to change his shape to blend in with ponies. Magic: He has all the regular magic, such as levitation, though he also boasts the ability to fire off electricity from simple static shocks to small lightning bolts. Training: Due to the rigorous training involved with his station, he has the ability to effectively wield and fight with a variety of weapons, most notably a chain and sickle he carries with him everywhere. The training also heightened his already present skills with stealth. History: From the first moment he could remember, he had been mostly alone. Sure, there were some others of his kind around to show him the ropes, but other than that he was left to his own devices. This mostly lead him down a path of doing whatever he wanted and taking whatever he wanted using his magic and the skills he developed during that time. He always felt unfulfilled though as he got older, as if there was something missing, some purpose he needed to find. With that in mind, he set out into the world, eventually exploring all of Neighpon with only limited success. He needed something more, and for some reason was drawn to Long Guo. Perhaps his heart knew where his purpose lay before he did. Or perhaps the air currents just felt like carrying the aimless bird that way. In either case, he found himself in Long Guo, flying over some building in a forest when he crashed for maybe the first time in his life. Having not paid attention, he had clipped a tree and injured his wing. When he came to, he was in the forest with a young qilin standing over him. He would never forget that face, even as his next few months were spent not seeing her at all while he was treated for his injury. Thankfully, he had managed to hold up the disguise of a regular bird instead of his true form during the recovery. Once he was healthy again, he left, getting one last look at the mare that had found him. He never forgot that face, it was stuck in his mind as he decided he needed to repay her for that. A while after that incident, he decided to try and settle down somewhere, crafting his longma form before making his way into a town. He asked around in the town, finally learning a name to go with the face. Empress Yue. From that moment on, he knew what he needed to do to repay her, and went to a city he had heard had a seedier underbelly to find a forger to create an identity for himself here. After pulling a simple job for them, they made his new history and gave him his new name. The yokai now known as Wūyā traveled to the palace next, joining up with the newer Empress's Imperial Watch and enduring the training in order to repay his debt to her. By the time he actually got past the training, he actually had a loyalty to his Empress, serving her loyally ever since. Personality: Wūyā is very serious about his work, placing Yue's safety over that of anyone else, especially himself. That being said, he is perfectly kind to his allies, though very formal. He rarely relaxes from his duty, as he is always on the clock in his mind. The only one he really feels comfortable relaxing around is the head chef and fellow Yokai. She was the only one he could relax around because she already knew his secret. Summary: A very diligent guard, Wūyā stands ready to sacrifice everything for the sake of his Empress.
  24. Name: Yanhua Sex: Female Age: Appears as a young adult Species: Yokai (Nine-Tailed Fox) Eye Color: Lavender, but is rarely seen. Coat: Off white cream Mane & tail: A lively orange red with streaks of green and some white tips. Usually wears it in a swirling style. Her tail has a bow tied to it with a curious ball attached to it. Physique: Most times takes the appearance of a lithe and sleek looking qilin mare. In her true form she is a fox about the size of an average mare i terms of height, who is seen surrounded by varying amounts of foxfire hitodama and waving nine, long, flame producing tails. Residence: Imperial Palace Occupation: Head Chef Cutie Mark: A frying pan with a hitodama in it. Unique Traits: Hoshi no Tama: As a fox yokai, Yanhua is never seen without a glowing jewel at her side. This orb at least when she is shapeshifted, contains a vast portion of her magical power. If it is separated from her then over time she will lose all of her magical capabilities and appear increasingly ill to the point the point she is no different than a common fox. If someone steals her ball, she will do just about anything to see it returned. Cooking Skill: You don't get to be as old as Yanhua is without learning a thing or two. Her appreciation for the food of Long Guo gave way to a desire to learn how to prepare some herself. Thanks to her long life she has been able to practice fairly often in her downtimes... and apparently cooking with Foxfire makes things taste quite unique. Foxfire: Having been taught from a young age how to use the wispy, magical flames of yokai by her parents, Yanhua is a talented and well disciplined user of this unusual magical flame. While the extent of what she can do with it is known only to herself and perhaps other Yokai around her age, she's been using it primarily to cook food in the imperial palace as it allows her to adjust the temperature of the flames at will and instantaneously. Shapeshifting: While Fox yokai back home are considered natural shapeshifters, Yanhua is not necessarily a master of it. She is able to maintain an equine form for long periods of time so long as it has some resemblance to her actual form. Maintaining the form of another pony, qilin, or longma is a different story as over time certain traits from her natural form will start to peek out if she loses concentration. A decent example of that being her Tails poofing out behind her when she's startled or frightened. Yokai Magic: As a yokai, Yanhua is fully capable in performing all the various forms of magic as other yokai, such as levitation, and illusion magic among other skills. Senses: Possesses an impressive sense of sense of smell, capable of even sniffing out magical signatures. As a fox she also has very sensitive hearing as well as the ability to see in the dark. History: Long ago under a sky full of fireworks, a Fox was born. Her parents named her Hanabi no Mikoto. This young Yokai proved a handful even during her early youth: A troublemaker at her core, but a curious one. Her young days were full of romps with her siblings and the theft of treats from the natives of Neighpon. All throughout her life though she had wondered what it was like to the east, especially after those interesting dragonhorses started showing up more and more often in her family's neck of the woods. In search of new things to occupy her Interest, Hanabi would travel farther to the east along with some other Yokai with motives like herself. Her journey to get there brought her in contact with more than a few other breeds of Yokai on the way until she finally reached the shore of Long Guo. Here she wandered all around the country, getting a feel for it's culture, it's citizens, and most importantly their cuisine! Using her shapeshifting, Hanabi would over time learn the language of the Long and spend more time around some the more promising young chefs of early Long Guo. Eventually though she couldn't occupy her time with only the food of this country, she began to go out and into the countryside. One day during a drought She saw smoke rising from the fields of a village, A wildfire was hardly any good for anyone, so the fox intervened and used some magic in her true form to assist calming the blaze until it died. The Villagers had an... unexpected response to this: She was named their field's guardian spirit. She might have corrected them, but the enticing offer of food, drink, and other nice things compelled her to stay. So she did. For several generations She protected the crops, and was given tribute at a small shrine that still stands in the area. Over time though, the villagers would come less and less. It turned out that they were moving on from the fields and as their land opened up to trade with the larger world, they had begun a lucrative business of Silk trading and production. Once her shrine fell into disrepair, Hanabi figured it was time she left to her next adventure. She still makes the occasional trip to that Shrine to see how it's holding up in her absence. The next part of her life was not the happiest, honestly. One day during a nap, some ambitious lord had managed to steal her Hoshi no Tama. When she woke his demands were that she protect his palace from intruders as long as he ruled it. Facing the prospect of losing her valuable orb, Hanabi agreed to the terms. This Ambitious lord proved a thorn in the side of the empire for a not insubstantial amount of time, mostly due to her protection of his base of operations. Messing with intruder’s sense of direction, bewitching and confusing h them, scaring them off with horrifying images. It was quite a bit of fun, even under these undesirable circumstances. Thankfully her time eventually ended when she was outwitted and freed by some shadowy order during a daring raid on the lord’s palace. She didn’t stick around long enough to face any consequences for her assistance of this lord and paid little mind to the watch and moved on. Now free to roam a slowly changing Long guo, Hanabi simply continued her habits of observing and following famous cooks across the land. One day, she heard such an interesting rumor. The emperor of this kingdom was hosting a remarkable banquet the likes of which had never been seen before. This was far too good to pass up! One of cooks in Long Guo she’d never heard of before was even coming. As luck would have it, the bride of the emperor’s carriage was going to be passing by her neck of the woods too. The fox hatched a devious plot. When the empress came by she caught her attention with some magical conjured lights in a forest of Bamboo. The Empress told her guards that she would be back in a moment and after going past the thick forest’s edge… she returned unharmed if a bit cheery looking. In reality Yanhua had simply magicked the empress away to the house of a lesser known nobleman. It would take at least a day for word to reach the emperor about that, so she hopped on board the carriage and made her way with the guards, all bewitched and bringing her to the dinner. When she got there, the guests and the emperor were a bit put off by her rather… aggressive eating. Hanabi was having the time of her life all throughout despite some of the looks from the guests, but it seemed that one of the dishes was a bit too spicy for her senses to handle. Her guise was dropped and in the dining hall sat a qilin sized fox with nine tails. She was immediately subdued by the emperor’s spiritual advisor of all things! Left bound she told them where she had left the empress and could only watch sadly as the final course of the feast escaped her field of vision. Seeing as the empress was unharmed, any particularly serious punishments were decided against. This slight against the emperor however couldn’t just be let go though, so the advisor and emperor settled on a sealing spell. They brought the bound Yaojing out to a forest far out in the mountains, not far from a small settlement. Through their magic they bound her to this small forest, unable to leave it’s immediate area for the foreseeable future. Days turned to weeks turned to years… Hanabi was left on her lonesome in these woods with her magic weakened and only able to talk and weave minor illusive magics. The only things she found to occupy her time was time mess with the inhabitants of the village who came by… and even then eventually they just stopped coming. Her only contact would often be the monks sent by the advisor to renew the seal on her forest every twenty years… then there was a colt. This little longma went by the name of Feng and he was something of a troublemaker in his village. That was something Hanabi could relate to. Rather than frighten the little colt off she would slowly get to know and converse with him. She learned many things about his life, and even was a sympathetic ear for him on an occasion. She looked forward to every visit, often darting to the forest edge if she even suspected he was approaching. Although soon his visit became more spaced out when he got a mark on his backside. On his last visit he said he had decided to join the ‘imperial watch’ and that this meant he’d have to stop coming by. Hanabi’s pride wouldn’t allow her to admit how sad this made her, instead she just cheered him on and wished him the best of luck! On their last goodbye, The fox was left again on her one. Time passed, and she realized something. She was alone… where was the monk? They should have been here by now. She thought maybe they’d come in and applied the seal again while she was with feng… but the seal had fallen into disrepair and with enough of her magic free to use she escaped her bounds and rejoiced! First thing to do was to find Feng. Well, that wasn’t the first thing to do. The first thing she needed to do was come up with a disguise that wouldn’t take much effort to keep up. She eventually settled on something a bit resonant with how she normally looked. She came up with a qilin form that she could interact with the rest of the village with and asked around if they knew where he might be. The imperial academy was her best bet. She snuck in and saw that Feng had grown quite a bit since she’d last saw him. He was about a teenager now and training to be part of the watch. On one of his trips out of his training camp he attended a festival. At this Festival, Hanabi re-introduced herself… in a way. She actually introduced herself to him as Yanhua (the Long Sun’s word for fireworks). Since then she wound up becoming a close friend to him all over again. In her absence Feng had fallen for none other than a prospective empress. SOmething about this news made her feel a bit… downtrodden, but again she wished him the best, but rather than saying goodbye like last time. She volunteered to help him out in his work in the watch in a small way, She made him lunches! Using her foxfire and accumulated cooking knowledge over the ages she was able to cobble together some delicious meals. When he first tried it he asked if she was a chef in her downtime and in a bout of nervousness she blurted out yes… then immediately began working to make that lie a truth. There was no rule about using magical flames to cook food… and exhaling foxfire like the longma or qilin’s dragonbreath was easy to trick others with. The world of cooking turned out to be a surprisingly cutthroat profession as she learned about it. Recipes needed to be kept secret, sometimes chefs would steal from each other. In the interest of making her word to Feng true, she pushed onwards and soon wound up running the kitchen in the imperial capital of Haungjing Around the time the old palace chef retired, something happened that left Yanhua speechless. The Long sun dynasty approached her and requester her to be the top chef for the palace for the divine empress Yu Yue and Prince Lian Mei. Hoping to get to know the mare that Feng had become so smitten with… she accepted. Up to now this is the story of Yanhua. Personality: Yanhua is a playful, mildly excitable, loyal, a dutiful if occasionally flippant cook. She can sometimes push her luck with certain etiquette being disregarded or encouraging her staff to relax and be flexible so as to prepare dishes quickly and make changes as needed. Those under her care are often treated well so long as they can mind a joke or a prank once in awhile. Among those she takes the most seriously are the empress, the prince, Feng and Qing. While her kind are notorious tricksters across long Guo, Neighpon, and parts of Polyneighsia, even Yanhua has a sense of honor: A major aspect of her personality and nature is an inability to break a promise or attempt to try it. No matter who she owes a debt to, she will work tirelessly to pay it off in any way she possibly can. This even applies to promises made under negative circumstances such as blackmail, in those circumstances she can and will take advantage of the perpetrator’s exact words or vagueness in terms in order to find a way to make it backfire upon them. Thanks to being sealed for as long as she was, Yanhua is practically terrified of the idea of ever being bound again. In order to avoid this fate, she is very skittish and wary around any powerful, knowledgeable sages of the Harmonious path… and is known for avoiding the spiritual advisor anytime he is nearby the kitchen in the palace. Around others, Yanhua is almost always smiling and tends to have her eyes constantly closed. Exceptions are made during times of celebrations and cheer, in which case she will only open one eye slightly. Despite this trait she is apparently able to see things perfectly fine and perform her cooking tasks very well. Nostalgia is a trait that comes to Yanhua easily. On her time off she’s known to often visit some old places such as a village with a booming silk trade that goes on to this day, an old, run down shrine on its outskirts, and the old mountain village where feng grew up… to throw stones at the forest edge. Now that she has been freed from her confinement again she is interested in one day visiting long guo to see if any of the old yokai she knew are still around.
  25. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria Name: Akemi Sex: Female Age: Very Old Species: Okami yokai Eye colour: Ice Blue Coat: Varies, though typically some shade of grey or white. Soft, pleasing swirls and shapes of the contrasting color to her base shade often appear and fade at random throughout her coat. Mane/Tail: n/a, not separate from her coat Physique: Roughly the size of a normal pony on regular occasions, Akemi's very form is somewhat amorphous. Long strands of fur flow like mist about her, and she can seemingly alter her size at will (within reasonable limits). Residence: Her ramen shop in Long Kong Occupation:Restaurateur Cutie Mark: None Unique Traits: As a yokai, Akemi is quite magical by the very nature of her being. She has many talents, the most common of which being her ability to alter her shape. This is most often shown by her statue form when presiding over her noodle shop, as she never directly appears to run the operation. The okami can also be invoked at any location simply by speaking her name, though an object in the likeness of a wolf must be present for her to appear. Due to her long life, the yokai has also developed a very keen sense of character, which she calls her "eye of truth." While hardly foolproof, Akemi can often discern whether or not somepony is lying if they are not extremely accomplished at masking their emotions. Finally, one of her most fantastical abilities is one of bending light about herself so as to appear effectively invisible when disguise isn't enough. This only works with an external light source, and becomes more fallible the weaker the light is. In darkness it doesn't work at all, as Akemi herself glows faintly with her inherent magic. History: As Akemi can count her own existence in various pony lifetimes, she doesn't often speak of days long past, preferring to stick with more recent occurrences. She moved to Long Kong from the areas surrounding Neighpon several years ago, having lost faith that the rise of technology would ever account for tradition and the old ways once it gained momentum. The wild and natural places were slowly disappearing, and she became disillusioned. In the spirit of joining what she did not see how to defeat, the restless yokai spent many months roaming the bustling streets of the city. Often this was done invisibly, other times as a statue or flickering lantern. Simply watching, learning. How could ponies, kirin and the like stand to be in such enclosed space? Were they not suffocating? It was a maddening conundrum to the okami. The air was heavy, the nights were loud. Just before the yokai lost hope, however, she met the mare that finally managed to change her stubborn perspective. Akemi happened to witness an elderly pony while sitting passively in her statue form one evening. The granny was headed into a noodle shop with what seemed to be her grandfilly, both lugging bags full to bursting with ingredients. It seemed that she owned the ramen house. Something about the warm joy on the elder pony's face intrigued the yokai, and she hid herself from sight to follow the pair inside. What she saw almost made her drop her invisibility spell in surprise, a rare thing for a creature usually so measured in temperament. It was one of the most traditional, beautiful interiors she had seen in a long time. Most definitely anywhere in Long Kong. Incense smouldered gently, chimes rang throughout, tasteful pots of bamboo were arranged about the restaurant. Everywhere Akemi looked, she was pleased. Enough so that she showed herself to the grandmare and her grandfilly the very next day. Naturally they were surprised that something as elusive as a yokai would introduce itself, but after a short time the two wizened souls were chatting away like old friends. When it became apparent that Akemi was despairing that the traditional ways would disappear, the elderly pony shook her head in disagreement. She responded that while progression and change was inevitable, the things we treasure only stop being relevant when there is no one left to care for them. So long as one person remains, so too does the treasure. The mare suggested that Akemi travel the world, see what it truly held beyond the fringes that the okami had inhabited for so long now. Perhaps she would find more clarity on such a journey. Sensing the wisdom in her friend's words, the yokai agreed to sojourn and return to tell the tale. She left Long Kong and traveled far beyond its borders. Over the years, rumors would spread of a great wolf that would appear, seemingly full of boundless curiosity about each new location. Akemi held true to her word, and even began gathering rare and powerful relics that she came across. Word had it that she even visited Longri-la, the storied refuge of the Serpent Council. Whether or not claims that she has seen the inside of the Dragon's Heart are true, she has yet to reveal to this day. After many summers, Akemi finally returned to the noodle house in Long Kong. She found her friend and her grandfilly still working, still honoring the ways. As promised, the okami regaled them with stories of her many travels. When the wolf finally finished speaking, she received a question in return. Had she found what she was looking for? The yokai thought long about her answer. Yes, she decided. There were still many ancient wonders in the world outside the tiny bubble to which she'd confined herself. Upon relaying this thought, her old companion smiled. It was time they switched places, was her response. Seeing Akemi's confusion, the wrinkly mare laughed and explained. She wasn't getting any younger, and she couldn't run the noodle shop like she used to. She wanted to see the wonders of the world one more time while she still had the chance. As a favor for the wisdom that she had bestowed upon the yokai many years prior, would she mind watching over the ramen house in the pony's stead? There was assurance that the grandfilly knew all the workings and could mostly run it by herself now, but it was always nice to have an elder hoof (or paw) guiding business. So it came to be that Akemi presides over a traditional ramen restaurant in Long Kong, keeping a keen eye on her only employee whilst helping unseen through magic and illusion. She still travels, often leaving the business in her capable ward's hooves during her absences. Rumors of the Sage Wolf still grow, and now those seeking her could always come inside for a warm meal and possible answers to their burning questions. Character Personality: Akemi is quite stoic, and often comes off as august and austere to those who do not know her well. Rarely is she caught off-guard to the point that she'll speak in anything other than a measured cadence, or even appear excited. That said, she is not emotionless, simply tempered by long years of wariness and exploration. She does become a tad more relaxed around those she knows well (though as her employee will tell you, this often doesn't do anything for her strictness). The most enduring of Akemi's monikers is the Sage Wolf, due to her ages-old propensity to dispense sound advice to those who ask it of her. While rarely immediately evident or understood by those who ask, time and again her suggestions have proven fruitful. Even in her current "settled" location within Long Kong, she tends to act as an information broker for her friends who seek counsel at her ramen shop. The yokai often favors company that appreciates the old ways, and individuals who seek knowledge to truly better themselves. Those who tell grand tales are very welcome in her home, especially those who are talented in the delivery of such stories. On the other paw, she does not lightly tolerate thugs and villains, which leaves her diametrically opposed to the Triad and various hooligans that associate with them. Rare is the occasion that a member of that collective has been allowed past her door, though it's not completely unheard of: she does believe in the concepts of yin, yang, and balance between the two. Though she doesn't often talk about herself, Akemi enjoys reading ancient scrolls and listening to the guqin being played. She keeps a rock garden in her spare time, and to the lucky few that are actually invited to her home (not the restaurant itself), they find themselves in a glade of pristine natural beauty. How such a thing exists about a ramen shop in Long Kong is quite the mystery. Character Summary: Akemi is the embodiment of wisdom and tradition accumulated over many, many years of learning. A very well-traveled being, the yokai finds pleasure in upholding the old ways and finding how to fit them into an ever-changing modern world. She houses a collection of very rare and sometimes powerful relics in her mystical glade that she maintains above her noodle shop in Long Kong, and often dispenses advice to those who come seeking it. Somewhat oddly for her kind, Akemi has over time seemingly forgone taking the guise of more common sentient creatures when out and about. She often appears simply as herself, a great wolf striding through the crowds. Her innate powers instill a mild protective glamour, in a way that only perceptive creatures or those actively looking for her will easily see her. Elsewise she is akin to a fleeting thought, drawing no more attention than any other might if one were to look at a crowd of complete strangers. To those she truly wishes to avoid, there is always her invisibility. The Sage Wolf still actively travels to expand her knowledge, that she might pass it on to others. And while she won't actively admit it, she does dote on her employee in mostly unseen ways despite said employee's thoughts otherwise. In the end, Akemi is a caring, old soul who wishes for nothing more than for those she cares about to be at harmony with the world. To that end, she sees herself as a conduit to times nearly forgotten, ever ready to be the window into the past that looks upon the future.
