Dead Rising 2 : Off the Record. This game will be reviewed in this thread fun, but before we get into it, lets talk a bit about zombie games in general.

Zombies, according to a lot of people, have turned from "The living dead" to "The living cliche". It is apparently now gone from terrifying to a living punching bag, to a hipsters worst nightmare.

But I want to go on to the topic of "Is that a bad thing?". Honestly, yes I'll admit zombies have been overdone, but zombie media is not really a cliche as much as it is it's own category. I LOVE Romero's ORIGINAL Dawn Of the Dead. and Dead Rising and L4D are both instant classic games in my opinion. Just the idea of killing something that's already dead, is a huge fun fest.  Zombies may be overdone, but the point is to have fun, and when it comes to that, they deliver quite well if done right. (Though most Zombie media seems to cash in on the craze *Cough* Lollipop Chainsaw *Cough*)

And now onto the game

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record is often just called Dead Rising 2 with Frank west slapped on it, I disagree.

If you played DR2 as much as I did, you see a lot of new content, including but not limited to, new survivors, new ways to kill zombies, new items, FANMADE COMBO WEAPONS THAT GOT PUT IN THE GAME! (Some of the combo weapons in the game were ones that won the weekly Tape it or die competitions hosted by Capcom.)

Let me put it briefly.

This game entertained me more than Skyrim did.

While half of the releases of 2011 focused on story, Dead Rising: Off the Record had responsive combat, a decent story, fun sidequest, returning gameplay aspects of the first Dead Rising (photography), and to top it all off : FRANK WEST!

But what made it game of the year 2011 for me?

Sandbox mode, something all open world games SHOULD have.

Sandbox mode is not only useful for leveling up and getting money, but the sheer enjoyment of running through mall, killing zombies with a katana, while wearing a Servbot mask and a tuxedo, is just too much to pass for me.

Plus, they reference fan favorite boss from the first game, Adam the Clown. (I can't tell how though.)

but every game has its flaws.

For this game, it is probably the overpowered weapons that psycopaths use.

It's extremely funny to hear Frank and Chuck argue, though you could also do that in case west, but over all, I liked this game.

Too bad, Chuck didn't have a role in the main story though, I really was hoping HE would be the one to teach Frank to make combo weapons

Well you do get to fight Psycho Chuck Greene, which is funny if you bring a friend along cuz it's Frank West and Chuck Greene vs. Psycho Chuck Greene.
