Before she could react, Scootaloo felt the sudden tight and yet squishy embrace of her friend Sweetie Belle. It was like being hugged back by a very soft pillow, causing the orange filly to be unable to move or do anything else. The unicorn then let out a tidal wave of words, something about getting stuck in the basement and finding that the feral pony wasn't a feral but Applejack. Clearly though the filly was more interested in her friend rather than anything else.

"I'm ok Sweetie Belle, just a little sore but I'm ok. There is one thing that you can do for me. Can you stop hugging me so tight? I think my wings are falling asleep."

Scootaloo looked over to see Applejack with a confused and slightly angry look on her face as she tried to piece together what happened. Naturally the mare looked towards her younger sister for answers like why her two Crusader friends were over at the house and why they thought there was a feral pony running loose.

"Don't punish Apple Bloom too much Applejack. We all got mixed up in the story Carrot told us and I guess we thought that something was trying to get into the house, so we tried to stop it. But if you're going to punish her, then punish me too as I was just as at fault. Sorry for causing the trouble Carrot Fields."

As Apple Bloom confessed her mistakes, Applejack looked at her with a straight unamused look, but when Apple Bloom stated her acceptance of a banishment into the Everfree, Applejack cracked a forgiving smile. She could not resist striking a little fear in her, however. "No, I don't think one year is enough. I'm thinking two." Applejack said plainly waiting for Apple Bloom's face to look back up to see Applejack's facial expression delivery the good news that she was obviously joking. However, Apple Bloom was still in so much trouble.

As Carrot tried to return to his feet, he seemed to try and play it off like nothing had happened, although he knew that something had happened, but he didn't necessarily have all the details, like who gave him a black eye, for instance. "Take it easy, Carrot." Applejack pushed Carrot back in bed to keep him from moving too much. "You hit your head, we'll," Applejack confessed herself, "Ah hit yer head because I thought you was some burglar or somethin', everyone in the house was makin' a crazy scene."

Applejack looked at Sweetie Belle puzzled. "You thought I was a feral pony? That's ridiculous!" Applejack felt a sneeze coming on, turned away and exploded an exhale that may or may not have included mucus. "And Scootaloo, I appreciate your apology, but if Apple Bloom hadn't allowed you to be over in the first place that would have never been an issue."

Applejack looked at Carrot, figuring that he would be to blame as well for letting things get out of control. She had, of course, asked him to watch the foals, and this wasn't exactly a success. However, her seeing the amount of bows put on Carrot by the foals was also hilarious. Applejack could picture in her mind the way the foals might have manipulated Carrot, and it made her realize that Carrot is much more a kindhearted stallion than she realized. "Carrot, you were here when I wasn't. What do you think would be a fair punishment for Apple Bloom?"

Sweetie Belle blinked in confusion at all the revelations. She loosened up her grip on Scootaloo a little bit, and looked around at everypony with a stricken expression. If there was no Ferals ... and just Applejack ... then that means everything the three girls had done... tying up Mister Fields... hitting that hoof ... that final brave run into the cellar ...

Her expression grew even more agonized. "We've been bad, haven't we?" she asked with this catch in her voice, this 'please tell me it's not true' tone.

Carrot Fields smiled at the little orange pegasus and gave her a reassuring rub on her mane, “It is alrecht Scootaloo; Ah main hae gotten a bit tay carried awa' an' graphic wi' mah tale. sometimes Ah forgit ye aw ur still sae wee.” How could he stay mad at such an adorable trio of fillies? They reminded him of his own sister when she was younger, and he couldn’t help but wonder how it be like to raise and spend time with daughters as rambunctious as the CMC; fun times!

Before he could say more, Applejack forced him back into bed and explained surely the third time how he was injured, although it was the first time he was fully able to comprehend what she was telling him. He wasn’t upset, and it wasn’t because he was incredibly smitten with the Apple mare either, but more to the fact he was simply impressed by her strength, besides it was an accident based on misunderstanding. “Ah hae tae say, ye got tae be one ay th' strongest ponies Ah hae ever mit! Mebbe Ah can gie ye tae try it in th' Heelain Games some time!” Carrot had a big, goofy grin to go along with that suggestion, it must have looked quite the sight with the bows in his mane and the shiner on his face.

Applejack though was more focused on the situation at hoof and asked a question that shocked Carrot enough to instantly shake him out of his daydreaming of the orange mare showing off her fine self in the games. For a moment, the ruddy maned stallion was confused; why would Applejack want him to decide her little sister’s fate? It was something he would never ask any other pony to do with his own sister, but at the same time he was reluctant to refuse her request.

For a moment Carrot was lost, not sure what to decide, and then it dawned on him like the rays of the morning sun over the bright fields of Fet Loch. "Weel Ah hink Applebloom shoods dae aw th' ootduir chores fur a week fur havin' 'er friends ower when she was supposed tae be groonded. She shooldn’t hae tae dae them aw aloyn thoogh; I’ll hae tae help 'er, fur frightenin' th' wee fillies sae much wi' mah spooky stories 'at they caused aw thes damage coz they waur scared an' aw". It be hard, to do the chores of two farms for a week, but the gray stallion couldn’t help but feel this was partially his fault too.

Apple Bloom waited for the hammer to come down on her like she deserved. Everypony else may have added their spices to this disaster chili, but she was the beans of the meal and she gave it all the force it needed. If she hadnt invited her friends over even when she was grpounded, maybe none of this happens. She could have had a normal day just being grounded with a good foalsitter looking after her, like a hundred bajillion times before. And she would have been bored and upset and when Applejack got home they would have had a serious talk, but by the end of it all she was to blame. Her friends came to her defense but it didn't matter; the hammer would strike and it would trike hard and true at the filly responsible for everything that had gone wrong.

She lowered her head and looked just as she felt: Ashamed. She had been a terrible little sister to Applejack and a worse foal foalsit for Carrot, who had done nothing wrong at all 'cept try and share a fun story with three little foals. And now her fate was in his hooves, and he had every right to send her off into the fields of forever. She missed her her sister's joking facial expression as she talked about the lenth of her exile, but Apple Bloom had a sneaking feeling that Carrot was gonna put her out into the green pastures of the Everfree for a lot longer than that. The thought that she might get her cutie mark in surviving the Everfree was a cold comfort for sure when all she wanted to do was reverse the sands of time and get her day back. Carrot started talking, here it is! Bye bye freedom bird, bye bye!

...Instead, he was willing to help her with a week of heavy outdoor labor, which was pretty much what she wanted to do anyway...

"Wah-Ah- that sounds-" She composed herself, one hoof outstretched, "-Ah accept yer punishment," she finished resolutely. Hey, Carrot was a swell stallion!

OOC- Great thread!

"And Scootaloo, I appreciate your apology, but if Apple Bloom hadn't allowed you to be over in the first place that would have never been an issue."

Scootaloo put her head down, realizing that Applejack's logic was sound. The filly could argue that if it wasn't for her ans Sweetie Belle stirring up Apple Bloom, then they wouldn't be in this mess, but there seemed nothing that could convince Apple Bloom's older sister. Scootaloo felt like she was in court, standing in the audience with Sweetie Belle as she watched Applejack pass the verdict like a judge. She held her breath while standing next to Apple Bloom for support.

"We've been bad, haven't we?"

"Yeah, Sweetie Belle. I think we really did it this time. We may not be seeing Apple Bloom for a while, and forget about visiting the Crusader's club house. I don't think Applejack will want us to even set hoof on Sweet Apple Acres, not even to buy apples."

Her dour feelings though were brightened up by Carrot Fields who although had an equal hoof in doling out the punishment seemed to still be kindly to the fillies, even after all that happened.

“It is alrecht Scootaloo; Ah main hae gotten a bit tay carried awa' an' graphic wi' mah tale. sometimes Ah forgit ye aw ur still sae wee.”

"It's ok Mr. Fields. I think we all got carried away."

The orange Pegasus braced herself for the judgement to be cast upon Apple Bloom, hoping it wouldn't be banishment, or imprisonment, or worse preventing her to be a Crusader anymore or be their friend.

"Weel Ah hink Applebloom shoods dae aw th' ootduir chores fur a week fur havin' 'er friends ower when she was supposed tae be groonded. She shooldn’t hae tae dae them aw aloyn thoogh; I’ll hae tae help 'er, fur frightenin' th' wee fillies sae much wi' mah spooky stories 'at they caused aw thes damage coz they waur scared an' aw"

Chores for a week. It was a relief for Scootaloo to hear that the punishment wasn't so severe. Even better, Mr. Fields volunteered to shoulder the burden. But Scootaloo wondered what Apple Bloom would say.

"-Ah accept yer punishment,"

"Apple Bloom," she said hugging her friend, "You're going to be ok. I was afraid that Sweetie Belle and i wouldn't get to see you except for school of course. I guess things are going to be ok."

Emotions had had their time to settle, and Applejack's hoof was less sore from getting hammered. It was refreshing to see all the ponies come to an understanding and awareness during a stormy night that was very very chaotic and misleading. For some odd reason, imagination had the ability to increase the length of some of the shadows in the candlelit barn, and it stirred up the issue that has now been resolved. Apple Bloom was feeling pretty upset about being punished, and probably felt more worse about the physical pain inflicted on the adults, but Applejack knew that she would get over it. And chances were, her punishment would be cut short because of an improved attitude and a resistance to spend time with her sister doing the things they loved. Like playing Apple Settlers!

"Well, gang, I think it's time we all called it a night. Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, there is no way I'm lettin' ya walk home at night in this storm. Ya'll can stay the night in Apple Bloom's bedroom." Punishment to unscheduled sleepover might have been a surprise. "But tomorrow, Apple Bloom, your punishment will begin."

"Carrot, you don't have to sleep on the couch. If you're able to walk, you can go to Big Mac's room. He's out of town so he wont mind."

Applejack then sneezed what she was holding back, and exploded a sickly eruption. "And ah need to get to bed. Otherwise, I'm not ever gonna get over this dang cold." Applejack walked to the kitchen, pulled out some medicine, and reluctantly swallowed a spoonful of the sapping syrup. She walked slowly up the stairs as the tired mare she was. Shuffling into her room and crashing head first into the bed, she reached out with her hoof and grabbed a corner of the blanket and pull it over herself. She whimpered a sigh that both spoke to misery of being sick, but also the relief of finally being at a place of rest. Tomorrow, she might look at her bruises and cuts, but she was pretty sure they didn't need bandages.

Somewhere in the Everfree, the storm still raging on, trees were clapping with each other in the wind. The forest whistled its howl through fallen hallow trees and played the song of whatever embraced the woods at this time at night. The lightning was still striking once every quarter minute, lighting up the sky revealing its visual treachery and giving harm on occasion to a lonesome tree destined for the end of its line. The rain shattered through leaves and moss, tricking down rocks and forming new streams, all racing their way to the Everfree lake.

And somewhere in this everfree a creature's silhouette was shadowed by the lighting strikes, it's ears appearing severed by a long ago injury. The fur on the back of it was raised like a porcupine, but was mangy like a wet dog. And faintly between the strikes of lightning, it was sending off soft angry whinnies and it prayed for comfort. But the violence of the storm, and the severity of the wind never gave allowance to such a reveal and drowned out the dangers of the Everfree for the remainder of the night.

Sweetie Belle's lower lip trembled as Scootaloo proclaimed their fate... not see Apple Bloom? But how could they be the Cutie Mark Crusaders without Apple Bloom? She'd named the Crusaders!

She joined Scootaloo in hugging Apple Bloom tightly, relieved that their fears of being broken up were groundless. SO relieved. "And I'll help, too!" she declared resolutely. She'd done all sorts of terrible stuff, too! It wasn't like Apple Bloom had been the only one doing stuff wrong! She hugged Apple Bloom and Scootaloo even tighter, compressing her little filly friends with a desperate squeeze, then let go of them and turned to face Applejack and Carrot Fields. Her lower lip was still trembling, and water was standing in her eyes. "I am SO sorry," she declared, that catch still in her voice. "I wasn't trying to be bad. I ... I thought I was ... I'm sorry!"

It was a very subdued Sweetie Belle who headed upstairs for the night. She was all too aware of having made a mistake again... and this time, she resolved ... "THIS time, I'm not going to ever get in trouble again!" she declared to her friends. "I'm going to think before I act! I'll check my facts! I'll rein in my imagination! I'll ... I'll look both ways before crossing the street! I'll avoid procrastinating and count my chickens before they hatch! From this moment forward, I'll never be in trouble again!"

With that firm pronouncement, she rolled over into her sleeping bag, pulling it tight around her, not sure what sort of dreams tonight was going to bring. She just hoped it wasn't going to involve her being a big bully-pants beating at a tiny little Applejack with a broom while Carrot Fields was tied up in chains and padlocks.

"Night, girls. Good dreams..."

Carrot Fields listened as each of the Cutie Mark Crusaders apologized. Applebloom actually appeared happy before quickly hiding her true feelings behind a façade of sullen acceptance of the punishment he meted out. Carrot threw a quick wink her way to let the little farm filly know things were going to be alright.

Scootaloo was just as sincere in her apology, like the others, she was only trying to defend the Apple family home, Carrot had to admire her and the other Crusaders commitment. He gave the little orange pegasus a rub on her purple man to show all was forgiven, "ye can help applebloom an' Ah ay coorse, Ah hink it woods be appropriate given aw th' mischief 'at happened." It may have sounded like he felt the rest of the CMC should be punished, that was partially true, they needed to understand responsibility, but more importantly it was in the hopes that Applebloom would be encouraged if she had her friends help with her own penance.

Then there was Sweetie Belle, who appeared to be the most emotionally contrite about her misdeeds, which weren't actually bad when one looked at the big picture.; besides how could he possibly be upset at such a sweet, adorable little filly who, like she said, was only trying to help. Carrot gave a sincere smile, "It's alrecht Sweetie Belle, ye waur very brae e'en if 'at bravery was misguided, ye hud th' best intentions at heart." He didn't even have the heart to ask her to take the bows out of his mane; he was just such a sucker when it came to dealing with adorable foals like Sweetie.

"Noo ye heard Applejack, aff tae bed." The ruddy maned stallion did consider AJ's offer of her brother's room, but he still didn't feel right about it, the couch was good enough for him. Heck, he could easily sleep well on the hay piles in the loft of the barn, and it wouldn't make him the least bit uncomfortable, but the couch would do.

What he did need though was more ice, which was at least available, that and some good night sleep with the pack on his head, listening to the soothing rain. Perhaps tomorrow he could finally ask the CMC to remove all the accessories from his mane.

He had to wonder, were feral ponies ever real? Nahhhh!

((OOC - Thanks everyone for a fun RP! ))

Scootaloo listened as Sweetie Belle talked about the things she was going to do differently. Scootaloo smile while knowing that maybe the unicorn was a little too overzealous with her promises as the three seemed to get into some kind of bind while searching for their ever-elusive talents. Still it was a nice idea, one that Scootaloo applauded to.

"Same here Sweetie Belle. And I'll definitely help you out with the chores around the farm. I got you into this mess but maybe by helping you things will get easier."

The night wasn't a total loss as the orange filly got to stay overnight rather than being escorted back to her house. And although definitely not what she planned, she had a great time with her friends. But now with her eyes tired and a little yawn, Scootaloo was prepared to sleep. She got into the safety of her sleeping bag, listening to the sounds of the wind and the rain outside, wondering if she heard the howl of a feral pony outside. She then shook her head as that was just a scary story, right?

"Goodnight Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle. Sweet dreams."

(OOC) - Thanks for the fun thread. First one as Scootaloo a success!
