Character Summary:Pocket Change was raised, along with his older brother (Sprocket) and twin sister (Docket) in the great city of Canterlot. He was part of a once grand old family that had slowly deteriorated over the generations. Once a family of artists, war heroes, great thinkers and artists, the family had long coasted on its former greatness and even the great house they had lived in for generations had nearly fallen into complete ruin. Pocket lived most of his young life just getting by. He had few friends, and while he was not a poor student, he was looked down by his teachers who knew he could do a lot better if only he put more effort into everything he did. His parents did provide a rather leaky roof over his head and existed mostly in the background to remind their son of their existence and to provide him with snarky comments from time to time. Thankfully they kept one servant on hoof, an elderly unicorn mare known simply as 'Nanny'. She was there to cook, clean and generally provide support and guidance for the three young ponies. This was shorten to 'two' once Sprocket retreated to the manor's dank basement to work on his inventions, only leaving the house once a week to buy food and search the junkyard for parts.

Young Pocket (Or Pocky as his friends and family would sometimes refer to him) spent a good deal of his free time in his home's great library, and would spend hours upon hours reading tales of both fiction and of Equestria's grand history. He envied the heroes in his books on how they were able to go on such epic adventures without the interference of parents or authority figures. And not only did these heroes get to travel to exciting lands, meet exotic ponies, and get to outsmart dangerous monsters, they also got to return home with generous sacks of coin in their bags. The young colt could imagine himself doing the same thing and thus save his family and their home! Still, he could go on an adventure, but at the moment, he had been grounded for the day, and the furthest he could go was his backyard. There had to be adventure somewhere in their yard. After what seemed like forever, he found an old boarded up well, and he immediately set upon removing the boards. At first, he tried his telekinesis abilities. He was still pretty rough with this skill, and he enjoyed using it to tease the cute little fillies at his school. Still, trying to remove old wooden boards from stone was far harder than levitating a bullfrog near lil' Frou Frou. After this failure, he tried pulling on the boards and attempted to ask if they could be nice enough to remove themselves from the nails. After they rudely ignored his pleads, he climbed on top of the old well and proceeded to jump up and down. This did the trick, as the old and rotten boards simply gave way to his weight and down he fell, into the dry well. Would he land in some sort of land of wonder, or would he be transported into the deepest and deadliest dungeons of Old Canterlot. Within seconds, he found himself at the bottom of the well, both battered and bruised. The last thing he saw before he passed into unconsciousness was a rather small opened coin-purse, with two old gold coins inside. He awoken hours later to find himself in Canterlot's finest hospital. The lucky pony was well bandaged, but had managed to avoid breaking any bones. His parents were at his side, both relieved and very upset with the colt. As Pocket began to explain himself, his father glanced over at the nightstand near his hospital bed. where the old coin bag was resting, as he glanced away, he noticed there was something on his side, near his flank. Was it a bandage, or a bruise the doctors forgot to work on. No it was an honest to goodness cutie mark! One that matched the little coin purse he had found in the well. For the rest of the night, Pocket Change was the happiest unicorn in Canterlot, or at least he believed himself to be. This was only a sign his life would soon be filled with excitement and adventure!

Things continued to work out well for the pony long after that day. His coins were eventually taken to a appraiser and sold at auction. The bits made from this sale were placed ever so tightly in the bank and would help pay for Pocket's college tuition. The family also hired a small company to dig behind the house to see if they could find more of coins. They did not, but a few interesting artifacts were found and later donated to the Canterlot Museum Of History. This only continued to fuel the unicorn's lust for adventure! Not only did he discover ancient coins, his discovery lead to more finds that were now in a MUSEUM! Daring Doo eat you heart out! Upon graduating from secondary school, he planned on gaining degrees in Archaeology, Danger and Excitement. He was disappointed to see they only had classes on his first choice, but this will do! While he enjoyed college life, he found actual Archaeology to be rather dull. Where were the dungeons filled with dark creatures? Where were the ingenuous traps left behind by ancient civilizations who were ever so greedy and did not want modern society to be able to marvel at their greatness? Instead, there was a ton of reading, boring reading, and when they got to visit actual dig sites, he found himself digging and dusting in the hot sun. There always seemed to be broken bits of vases or platters under the ground. And not only did he have to dust broken shards of clay, he had to WRITE about them. How dull! As this went on, he started to divest more of his time away from studies and more into the famed college parties and the mares that attended said parties. He eventually graduated from college with decent grades, normally a life of excitement and adventure would follow, but at the time, he was absolutely smitten by a Pegasus mare named "Sun Catcher" he had been dating for the last few semesters. Finding out his meager allowance wouldn't do to woe the cute pony, he passed through an assortment of menial jobs, from fast-food worker to book seller. He found it hard to keep employed with his head in the clouds as both the dreamy mare and his own fantasies of being an adventurer competed for top spot in his mind. Reality was not helping him. To become a famous explorer, he needed bits, but to have bits, he needed to work! But he hated work! Eventually his relationship ended with Sun Catcher, and he found himself working for one of his former teachers as a 'Shovel Bum'. He would travel to sites in or near Canterlot and help with the less epic side of Archaeology and dig..And dig..And dig. The pay was decent, but the hours were long. Would this be his fate?

Personality: Pocket Change is a generally easy going sort of pony. The gregarious stallion is always quick to make friends or to toss out a joke. HOWEVER, sometimes, his quick tongue can get him into trouble. Sometimes he might think of something to say that he considers to be 'clever' or 'witty' but does not think it through before saying said words. Sometimes these words can lead to feelings being hurt, or even a hoof in the face! He means well, but he really needs to watch what he says. Still, he is condsidered to be fun around at parties or events..

Pocket's relationship with his parents has deteriorated over the last few years, even more so after he moved out of the family home and into a less spacious flat near the working pony's (or lower-middle class) district in Canterlot. And during the last few years, he had spoken to them about five or six times with the last two times consisting mostly of grunts. He has not seen his brother in years, but his relationship with his sister has improved tenfold, so much so that she had taken up permanent residence in his apartment and could be seen snoozing away on his couch during the night and at her little general store during the day. She also looks after Pocket's plants when he is off on his digs.

Still trying to figure out a decent "Cutie Mark" story that should both reflect his actual cutie mark, his talents and his personality. This has been my biggest roadblock for this character so far. I know his CM reflects his ability to give advice, but he would have needed to help a character with such epic words of wisdom that his very soul opened up and gave birth to a mark that would remain on his body till death! I was hoping some clever pony out there would do all the work for me cause I'm lazy give me some advice. I have tomorrow off, so I'll probably (and hopefully) come up with something clever around then or the weekend. :TSparkle:

Man, I kind of like him.

I mean there are so many reasons he could get that kind of cutie mark, and they're all completely downkeyed. He could be awesomely adept at finding change in couch cushions. or finding pennies on the ground. And maybe he's *SO* awesome at it that he just keeps amassing them and eventually is wealthy but didn't realize it because it was in such minor increments.

hmmm. I'll think about that. It sounds like my original idea for the character. His family, while far, far less so than originally, would be considered well-to-do, he was never too keen asking for money beyond his allowance. Maybe he's just lucky with money. He's never too rich, but he's never too poor. Always has a few coins on hoof. What's this? A shirt he wasn't worn in years. Ooh! 10 Bits in the pocket! Cha-ching! Pub-time! :blah: Many thanks..

Hmmm.Could also tie into the way he looks at life. He's sort of an lazy, and doesn't try as hard as he should, but usually life throws him a bone. Don't you hate those guys? You work your hinder off at work, and the guy that gets all the love is the one that tries the least? Things just seem to go his (or hers) way?

Hmm. Maybe, now I'll just need an epic story on how he er, found some money that was crucial to something very important that gave him is first cutie mark. Think Think Think..

That should be about it. It still doesn't feel right..And it's a bit on the clunky side, so if any of you have any suggestions, please give me a holler. Thanks.
