Ocean Eyes arrived to the diving even with her brother. Forest Ranger had come from the Tug-of-War competition after putting up a decent fight. Not Ocean Eyes was to try herself at diving off of the clouds. She hadn't seen the other contestants at all but she heard some pony had gotten a perfect score. She wasn't intimidated though! She was here for fun. After all, this was her vacation. Ocean eyes was positively thrilled to see other ponies doing these events. It made her super happy to see them all.

"Do you know the rules for his competition?" Forest Ranger asked her. Rules!? Who needed rules? Ocean Eyes just went with the flow! Like the ocean! She shook her head and turned to her brother. He probably knew them already. Sighing, Forest Ranger told her. "You have to climb the rainbow ladder to the clouds. Then you have to jump off and do tricks. I know you can do some dives but you have to do every thing in the book that you can to win. Throw in some magic too while you come down." Magic. Good one. Even Forest knew that I know a grand total of three spells or something like that.

Ocean Eyes nodded and approached the large rainbow ladder. Forest was right when he said to the clouds. The ladder reached all the way up there. She put one hoof on the ladder and started up. At first it was pretty good. After all she was just climbing a ladder. What could go wrong there. That was when Ocean eyes made the unfortunate mistake of looking down. She wasn't even halfway up the ladder when she looked. All she could see was a bunch of rainbow blurs. That was probably from the rainbow colored stands. That kind of frightened the mare. Being up so high. If she fell, she couldn't use magic to protect her like most unicorns because she was so awful with it.  Ocean shook her head and kept climbing.

At about halfway up the ladder she realized it was so hard. She had been climbing for a while now. How were those ponied below her not bored at all? She would be. She would hate waiting for someone to dive for this long. She probably would have gone off somewhere. Why was she on this ladder again? Oh yeah. Diving thing for the Best Vacation Ever. Right. Ocean slowly but surely continued her climb. She started to pace herself though. The mare did not need to lose all of her energy before she made it up the ladder. That would be awful. She needed most of her energy for her magic spells, one of the few she could do.

Finally Ocean Eyes could see the top of the ladder. She was still pretty far below. But she could see it. That gave her hope. She didn't move faster though. Nope. Conserving her energy still. That's what she needed to do. Slowly she continued until her hooves hit the wooden platform. Then she jumped up on it happily. Now that she was up there she realized how amazing everything was. Being up on a cloud was absolutely fantastic. And Pegasi could do this whenever they wanted. She was almost jealous. But if she was on a cloud she couldn't be in the ocean so she was alright with who she was. But that was besides the point.

Now that Ocean was up there, she needed a trick. The only type of magic she could use was one of a few spell she knew. Once changed the color of water according to it's pollution level, the other was tying her dreads back (which didn't work half the time) and the last was her favorite: her Bouncy Bubbles. The Bubbles were like a spring board. Once you bounced on them the launched you into the air. Unfortunately they only lasted one bounce. But that was all she needed. Now she had her plan of attack... or dive. The bouncy Bubbles plus cool tricks. Every pony liked tricks! Right? Right!

With her plan in mind, the Unicorn turned and backed up to the very edge of the platform. Since the ladder kind of moved back and forth, she figured the platform would too. All she had to do was wait. Ocean rose on her back hooves and when the platform moved backward slightly, she jumped into and inward pike and started her magic. She held the pike until her first bubble appeared under her. Then she released it and readied herself for another dive that she hadn't completely decided on actually.

Ocean eyes hit the first bubble and sprang off that. The bubble was slightly larger than Ocean Eyes herself, and it launched her about three feet in the air. After jumping. she had decided her next move was a Twist with her body straight. The move in total was a quadruple straight twist since that was how long it took ocean eyes to make her next bubble. During the twist her ribbon holding her dreads back came off, no problem though. She would try and fix it later. Right now her next focus was actually hitting the bubble. She hadn't come up with an idea for a third move but she would do something awesome she guessed. At least she had made two bubbles.

Her back hooves hit the third bubble and she sprang right up in the air. She then combined a somersault and a straight twist into a single dive. She her body was spinning rapidly while she was doing a somersault in the air. Ocean eye's dreads on her mane and tail were rotating rapidly with her body. It looked pretty awesome though. Ocean Eyes did three of the spinning somersaults before she realized the water was awful close. Ocean figured she had enough time for one more bubble... That is if she could make one. The Mare focused everything into making that fourth bubble. It was quiet a lot.

For any pony watching her at that moment, they would be able to see a light blue aura surrounding her horn. Then right under the rotating somersaulting pony, the biggest bubble of all appeared right on top of the water. It was much bigger than her other ones. This bubble was twice the size of Ocean Eyes meaining it was twice the size of her other bobbles too. It would also launch her higher than the others. Probably about six feet up. Ocean Eyes hit the bubble dead center and sprang off it with all the energy that she had. Since this was going to be her last move, she had to make it awesome.

After jumping off the bubble, it created a medium size wave that flowed to the edges of the lake. It was pretty cool even though the pony didn't intend for it to happen. Then Ocean Eyes straightened her body out again and did a triple backflip. When the unicorn entered the water, she made a decent sized splash. It could have been larger had she not entered the water straight. Thankfully she did go in straight. It took a little bit for her to stop moving in the water. Once she felt herself slow down, she swam to the top. Ocean gasped for air when she hit the surface. It seemed like through out her tricks, she had forgotten to breathe. She stayed in the water for a moment, enjoying the feeling of it.

While in the water, Ocean Eye's ribbon slowly fluttered down and found itself resting on the mare's nose. "Well that's convenient," she laughed. Ocean grabbed it in her mouth and took a few strokes to shore. While she may not be the best at diving, she was very good at swimming. She was one of the fastest mares on the Gallopacus Islands! The mare climbed out of the water easily and shook out her mane and body to get rid of excess water. Then she trotted over to Forest Ranger with the ribbon in her mouth. "That was fun! You go try!" She told him with the ribbon in her mouth.

"I'll pass sister." He replied, he hated being in the water. "I'm impressed that you were actually able to do some magic." He told her. The unicorn used his magic and took her ribbon and tied her dreadlocks back up for her. He seriously doubted after all of the bubbles she made, that she would be able to tie her own hair up.

"The Bouncy Bubbles are my best spell. I just used what I could. And I just did what I do. It worked out fine for me!" Ocean said with a huge smile. She was still wet and Forest Ranger was still muddy from his competition so all was good in her mind. The two were in their Natural element. Forest working with trees, dirt and mud while Ocean worked with fish and water. Yup it was funny. "Oh, Forest. I never want to be a Pegasus." The two laughed and waited for their scores. Yup, Best Vacation Ever.

When Gilda had decided to grace Iron Pony with her presence, she had certainly been expecting to encounter her, to see her, to compete against her. Rainbow Dash was an unavoidable fixture of this town and she was also a pony who enjoyed nothing more than a good challenge. Gilda expected nothing less; no, she wished for nothing less. For Gilda, a deep grudge had propped up atop their broken friendship. Proving she was the best was one thing, but it would be entirely empty if that rainbow-maned flip-flopper had decided to Iron Pony out like she had the last Running of the Leaves race.

Today Dash had shown. Not only had she shown, but right before Gilda's watching eyes she had unleashed a veritable visual marvel to behold. The spellbound judges awarded her a nearly perfect score. Gilda had to admit it was impressive. Anyone who couldn't admit at least that much was just deluding themselves. Dash had come a ways since Junior Speedsters. Topping her, if it was even possible, was no small task to say the least. However, Gilda wasn't exactly the sort to back down: not in a competition and certainly not against Rainbow Dash. This wasn't a common rivalry; this was about proving once and for all to Dash that she had made the wrong the decision.

As she continued to watch the competitors, Gilda held strong to her convictions. She had expected this. She had expected to find Dash, for Dash to excel and for her to have to beat her. She wasn't however expecting what happened not too long after that. Dash was a pony she had planned to see; Pathfinder wasn't.  Things were pretty cut and dry with Gilda and Rainbow Dash, they were friends when Dash was cool and that friendship ended when Dash decided to turn lame. The story with Pathfinder was much more complicated than that and could probably easily fill its own novel. Muddled motivations, repeated back-stabbing and constant danger lined their shared adventure in Talonopolis. At the end of the day, through what they had been through and what they had achieved, Gilda would cautiously call the pony adventurer something between a friend and a rival. As she watched the miraculous dive unfold and get scored perfectly, however, the switch in her mind went entirely to the latter. At the very least, Gilda now had to try that much harder. She wasn't just competing against one spirited pegasus mare with whom she shared a common history now, but rather two.

This high dive was an event that definitely had a certain appeal to Gilda compared to most. She did a lot of work as a trick flier, and this definitely had more than a few similarities to that. It was all about showing off, which was certainly something of a specialty of hers. Could she beat Dash and match Pathfinder at it? She didn't know. She certainly had no means to be as flashy as those two. There wasn't gonna be any sparkling rainbow juice or magic exploding balls or anything else so aggressively showy in her trick. She wasn't the sort to use props; she wasn't some clown here to put on some lame, sparkly show for the onlookers to gawk at like a pack of idiots. For her, this was going to be a display of pure athletic excellence. As a proud griffon, she had the strength and stamina of a lion and speed and grace of an eagle, and she was ready to prove all of it.

Gilda's turn soon arrived and with a nod she stepped out toward the platform. She looked up as she approached the ladder. She was expected to climb all the way up, huh? Pfft. What exactly was the point of that! She rolled her eyes and gave a shake of her head. It was in the rules though, and she wasn't going to give these ponies the pleasure of tossing her and her superior dive out for being against any lame pony rules. Sighing, her talon went for the first rung of the ladder.

Gilda climbed the ladder very quickly. Talons were infinitely better for gripping than hooves were and it was easier to keep her soft lion paws in place during the climb. That thought made her smile. More unquestionable proof that griffons were just better. Giving a laugh, she continued upward. Even at her brisk pace, it was a long way up, and the sway of the platform in the wind did cause her to pause at least a couple times. Nevertheless, she continued ever upward until she inevitably reached the top.

Once atop the towering platform, she turned to face backward. She took a deep breath and then let out a bellowing roar, "ALL RIGHT, LISTEN UP ALL YOU PONIES! YOUR IRON GRIFFON HAS ARRIVED!"

Gilda nodded to herself and took some more breaths. She then continued to move backwards along the diving board. When she was a short distance to the end, she jumped back, lunging her back feet powerfully into the board until it was well depressed, and then dropping down to hang of of it with her talons. She let go just at the right moment for the board to throw her far upward into the air. She balled herself up to do several repeated backwards summersaults until she hit her zenith.

At this moment, her body extended out from its curled form and she spread her wings far and wide to momentarily halt her fall. Spreading her talons and opening her beak, the fiery griffon then let out a fearsome, resounding roar. She allowed herself to glide on wing for an extended few seconds, high up there in the sky, a number of feet above even the diving platform. Slowly then, she turned herself so that her beak faced the water. Then, all at once, she pulled her wings in tightly and let gravity take over.

She began to fall sharply, straight downward. As she fell, she pulled her wings, feet and talons in tightly, perfectly straight and rigid. As momentum started to pick up, she began to pivot her body about so that it spun in a perfectly tight spiral that only increased in speed as the griffon kept moving. She spun faster and faster, the angular momentum adding to her overall speed of descent. She appeared like a griffon sized drill, or perhaps a rocket, moving toward the water on a straight and rigid, purely downward course. Along the way, she pierced several clouds, leaving clearly defined, circular holes in them as she did. As she approached the waters of the lake, she didn't even consider slowing down.

Gilda's speeding form sliced through the water fairly effortlessly, producing a high and yet compact splash. The water slowed her momentum and with enough strength, she managed to turn her body back around and keep going. The force of it all eventually had her break back through the water and propel herself high into the air. Again, when she reached the natural crest of her jump, she spread her wings and talons and opened her beak to give a loud and fearsome roar. The griffon then used her wings to glide back toward the water. She hung her talons in front of her and had them skim through the surface of the water as she propelled herself carefully and elegantly back toward the edge of the lake where she had started.

As she reached dry land, she flapped her wings a few times for flourish and then landed all at once. Shaking the water from her feathers, she gave a proud, smirk and then looked toward the judges. She had given it her all. It was up to these ponies to decide now. While she had nothing but confidence, she was half expecting these ponies to just not get her overwhelming cool or be biased against griffons. Either way, she had put up her best, and she was happy with it.

Aqueous Heart - Our first other participant besides a dragon, and she verily impressed. That speed, that cunning, that roar! My Celestia! 20.
Mistea Soakspray - I already know what you two are going to say, but besides punching some holes in some clouds, this loudbeak didn't impress me as much. Unless you count her vocal cords. 10.
Wyndway Falls - Wow! That corkscrew spiral, and the clean entry. That lithe griffon isn't kidding around. She's like an Earth Pony and Pegasus in one. Truly frightening! 20.

Pinkie Pie approached the fantastic cloud ladder with a grim look of determination on her face. She was decked in ridiculous attire: a lavender bikini, inflatable balloon animals strapped to her arms, star-shaped green sunglasses, a gigantic rubber-ducky inner tube around her waist, and her snout frosted liberally with sunscreen. A pair of green swim fins were lashed haphazardly to her back two hooves. "Time to show everypony how a dive is done...Pinkie Pie Style!"

She took several deep breaths, stretching her arms out to full length. Crossing her eyes, she bent all the way over, struggling to touch her hind hooves. Satisfied she was all warmed up, she started to climb the ladder. "Don't look down, don't look down, don't look down!" Pinkie said to herself. She, of course, looked down, and realized she was very high up. The spectators below looked like little sprinkles on a cake. Or perhaps ants? A gust of wind caused the cloud ladder to rock precariously. "EEEEEEK! AAAAH! IT'S GOING TO FALL!" She hollered at the top of her high-pitched voice. She clung tightly to the ladder. After a few moments, Pinkie realized the ladder was not going to topple, and relaxed her grip. She took another step, but her swimfin-clad hoof slipped, and she lost her footing. She wrapped her elbow around one of the ladder rungs, her face pale with fright. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" the young mare screamed, as she dangled from the cloud ladder.

Pinkie lost her grip, and fell. She was rather dense, and dropped off the platform like a rock. Air whistled and blew her curly mane around as the ground came up to meet her. WHACK. BOING! Her rubber ducky inner tube caused her to bounce high into the air. "Weee! Heehehee! This is fun!" She dropped like a rock again, bounced off a flying pegasus that just happened to be flying by at the wrong time, and she plunged into the water. She came up for air, her cheeks bloated. "Mrrphf?! Blech!" Pinkie spat water out of her mouth, along with a rather frightened fish. She struck a little pose in the water, waving to the judges. "Can I do it again?!"

"NO!" "NO!" "NO!"

"Oh...okay! Phooey!"

Aqueous Heart - She didn't even reach the top. 1.
Mistea Soakspray - I have no words for her, except who the hay tries to climb a giant ladder with swimfins? 1.
Wyndway Falls - She's still alive? What is she made of, rubber? 1.

This was crazy. All his school friends were telling him this. His parents were hinting this. Even he was thinking this! But this was something he knew he had to do.

Guiding Light stood by the lake, looking up at the cloud fashioned diving board. It was high, higher than any tree he climbed, higher than any building in Ponyville. He felt his shyness start to rise within him, threatening to make him either chicken out and leave or worse faint. But no, he couldn't do that, he wouldn't do that. Too long had he given in to his shyness, causing him to have few friends, low self esteem, no self respect, and most importantly no special somepony. This was his chance to prove he wasn't the shy little unicorn. He was a brave colt!

He climbed up the rainbow ladder, not looking down at the ground below. About halfway up his hoof slipped a rung and for a monemt Guiding Light thought he was going to plummet to his doom. But he grabbed the ladder sides and kept climbing.

Finally he reached the top. Now he had to think of something to amaze the crowd. While he lacked the athletic skills, he did have one thing: light magic. He cast a spell that he learned from his training from a mare named Mel, creating a bubble of light around him that changed colors. He'd have to be careful as this was no shield and would not protect him from a fall, especially this high up.

Taking a deep breath, the unicorn in the color changing light bubble took a running start and jumped. He curled into a ball and then began spinning end over end in several sommersaults whillist the ball was changing color with each flip. e then ended the dive by opening up into a swan dive. As he hit the water, the color orb broke and spread out in a ring over the lack until it dissipated.

Light, being an avid swimmer, easily returned to the shore. He didn't care what score he got. He was just happy he got the courage to do it!

Aqueous Heart - The squirt is cute, but he's a few dozen seasons too young for this sort of thing. 8.
Mistea Soakspray - I have to applaud the magical bubble spectacle. I think it brought something special to the dive. A well-earned 18!
Wyndway Falls - Oh gee, I dunno. This dive didn't include anything of the cool agile stuff I look for in a good dive. 7.

This was DEFIANTLY NOT what the little filly was expecting, at all!

Sleuth, having abandoned her role as mailmare once again, to set off for adventure! This adventure had lead her to Ponyville, and she was rather lost! Even so, it seemed she had stumbled upon this humble town at a special time, as the Iron Pony competition was held today! Little did she know, though. For as far as the fluffy pegasus was concerned, this was just usual business for a town like this!

Traveling through the crowd, she found herself staring through her magnifying glass at the floor, following a trail of confetti with her most favorite-est friend and certified teddy bear, Hatson! Following the trail of confetti lead her to a certain event. This event was none other than the Cloudsdale Cloud Diving contest! Again, she was clueless about it being going on, and was merely going where the clues were leading to. ''Hatson, assistant of mine, should we continue to follow this shady path of colorful, bright confetti?'' she asked, and tilted her head, staring at the bear. A short moment after, she laughed and nodded. ''Like, i totally agree!'' she said, replying to the statement the plush just made. Wasn't he a clever little son of a bear?

She followed the trail of confetti, presumably having been left by a certain pink pony that had participated in the dive not long before the adorable little detective had shown up to the scene. This lead to some sort of.. stairs? She plopped the teddy bear onto her hat, and smiled at it briefly. ''Alright, Hatson, tell me if you like see anypony suspicious!'' she commanded, and giggled, as she hopped up the cloudy stairs, ignorant of where she was going.

Reaching the top, she hummed quietly, as she looked down. ''.. W.. w-what?'' she asked, and squeaked. Looking up in panic at the bear, she yelped. ''Hatson! T-This is.. w-way too high! Like, why didn't you warn me?'' she asks, and whined quietly, leaning over the side before gulping.

This was indeed, DEFIANTLY NOT what the little filly had expected, at all!

A gust of wind suddenly came up from behind, just as she was looking down. The bear, once sitting on the filly's hat, fell off and started to plummet down to Equestria! ''Hatson!'' she cried, as she tried to grab it's tiny little paw. To her dismay, it was too late, and the bear started falling down. ''No!'' she whined, took a deep breath and shook her head. No, no, no, no! She can't let this happen! C'mon, Sleuth, you're a detective! A master detective! The best detective in all of-

And then there was another gust of wind.

Surprised, the pegasus filly fell off the cloud, and started falling down as well. Fluttering her wings around wildly, she was holding her hat with one hoof and her bag o' stuff with the other. ''I-I'm coming, Hatsoooooooon!'' she squeaks, flapping her wings even faster, feathers flying everywhere. Most of the feathers eventually landed in the water, whilst some were twirling down into the crowds of ponies.

Reaching her beloved assistant, moments before reaching the water, she gave it a big hug and started twirling in circles. ''You really scared me there, Hatson! Next time when we try to follow a lead, stop falling off of stu-'' Her sentence was cut off as she fell into the water however, her hat and the bear's matching hat floating on the lake and her feathers almost dancing around them.

Somewhere near the far end of the lake, a dripping wet pegasus climbed out of the water, shivering and shaking. ''.. T-T-T-That was.. n-not bad.. n-n-not bad a-at all..!'' she squeals, before coughing and sneezing quietly, hugging the teddy bear once more, before reaching into the bag and taking out two new hats, identical to the hats both of the crime solvers just lost on the lake. Even so, she was lightly disappointed.. Who or what was the cause of that confetti? Why was it there? Find out next time probably never!

Aqueous Heart - Is that a ... toy? That was uh. Interesting! 9.
Mistea Soakspray - I've never seen a dive like that before. Did she even know what she was doing? Um...13! Cause the plushie is cute!
Wyndway Falls - We're not judging on cuteness, Mistea. We're voting on AWESOME. This dive needed some work. Mmm...8!

Timid waited patiently, his nervousness apparent as he shook like a leaf in the wind. I can't so this! There's no way I can beat a Sonic Rainboom!, he thought to himself as his turn came up. The little metallic gold colt grasping the ladder with shaky forehooves, he tentatively put one hind leg on the bottom rung as he looked up towards the sky and the diving board at the end of the ladder. His face blanched at the distance but he put his other rear hoof on the bottom rung.

He gulped and said to himself, "I can't believe I'm doing this...", as he began to climb the ladder. This was going to be an arduous climb for him as he pulled himself up the ladder shakily, each rung a test of strength for the weak unicorn.

Halfway up the ladder, panting with exhaustion, Timid could feel the structure swaying in the wind. This is scary! What if I lose my grip?, he thought in his head as he clutched the rungs tightly in his grasp, completely frozen in fear. He was imagining himself in the hospital covered in bandages when he noticed the crowd egging him on with chants of, "Climb! Climb! Climb!". His fearful expression disappeared as a determined demeanor came over him and he resumed the climb towards the diving board at a rapid pace. "I am doing this for you Mom!", he shouted aloud before a sudden squall knocked him off balance.

The squall buffeted the ladder with winds stronger than what Timid had experienced so far as another downpour hit the ladder and himself. It became an even greater struggle to ascend as the wind worked against him and the slick rungs offered little purchase. He was soaking wet, shivering almost uncontrollably, as he reached up for the final rung of the ladder before the platform when the squall blew one last time and broke up, leaving Timid a nervous wreck. Hyperventilating, his concentration slipped and he missed the grap, leaving him dangling by a hoof, legs completely spent from the climb and compensating for the storm that hit him.

"This....is....it! It's now or never!", he said weakly as he brought his other hooves back into place on the ladder and pulling himself up onto the platform, jittery from adrenaline overload. "I made it up! Oh YEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!", he shouted in victory. What am I gonna do? I didn't exactly plan on making it to the top..., he thought as he looked down at the lake with the reflection of the sun making it look like a blue egg, sunny side up. This made him giggle as he nervously leapt into empty air in a parabolic arc.

He started off with a few counter clockwise spins, his small frame strung out like a string bean. Not bad. But I need more flair!, he thought as he stopped spinning and did 3 backwards somersaults as his horn glowed and he tried to pull a cloud towards himself but it backfired spectacularly. Instead of a telekinesis spell, his storm rattled mind lit his mane and tail on fire! Oh no! That wasn't in the plans! It hurts!

Whimpering in discomfort, he stared at the rapidly approaching lake with it's life saving water and curled into a cannonball and somersaulted forward 3 more times before hitting the lake like a meteor. A pillar of water and steam rising from the lake, Timid crawled from the depths of the lake and joined the others. He managed to smile as smoke and steam rose from his singed mane and tail that were a blackened cerulean color. "Well, I did my best!", he said to himself as he stood and waited for the judges scores.

Aqueous Heart - This kid has some spunk, even if he's...uh, a squirt! 10.
Mistea Soakspray - That was a cute dive. I think the climb for him was tougher than the dive. Let's go with a 14!
Wyndway Falls - That's pretty generous, Mistea! I think his finishing move with the three somersaults was actually pretty good.18!

Aqueous Heart - Heh, this unicorn can bounce around like a pegasus! Not bad at all. I thought this dive could use more umph, but it definitely deserves a 12.
Mistea Soakspray - Clever use of bubble magic to build momentum, along with the twisting and flipping, very nice indeed! A solid 20!
Wyndway Falls - I think this unicorn should have been born a pegasus! Look at those movies! My gawsh! 20!
