Origin: Indie was raised in canterlot for the greater part of his young life. After he finished school he decided to move out to the ocean near a small fishing town near Manehattan. This provides a balance between his career in the performing arts and his need for privacy and peace.
Here he found his new home, and his best friend, Jones. After looking around for a few weeks he found a watermill on the border of a small distributary he assumed branched east from the galloping river. It was a little run down, but Indie saw what it could be, not what it appeared to be, and bought it for a low price. Using resources from the surrounding forest he began to fix the place up. One day while he was taking a break, playing his guitar, an otter approached him. It was intrigued by the instrument, and after a few weeks of lurking about Indie adopted Jones, as she would soon be named, as his pet. He finished his renovations by adding an otter hole so she could easily enter and exit the mill as she pleased.
Occupation: Currently Indie and Jones live by Indie's performances in manehattan and crafting anything they need or can sell including knick knacks, musical instruments, and even a small boat. Indie also helps local farms and fishermen whenever he's short on bits. If you're curious, Jones helps the crafting process by finding shiny or appealling shells in the river bottom, which Indie uses to decorate his creations.
Motivation: When Indie got his Cutie mark he had alot of mixed feelings on account of several painful factors
in his life. He was having trouble with coping and found that playing music and expressing himself through the
arts made him feel better and really enjoy the life he was living. He then devoted himself to making everypony
else in his life happy through the means of music and art.
Likes: Indie really enjoys sharing his art with new ponies and connecting with them. He loves seeing people react
positively to his work, and is constantly striving to improve. He also enjoys his pet otter, Jones. She's a riot.
Dislikes: Indie gets nervous around ponies he doesnt know, especially if they're in groups, and finds it hard to
speak to them. However having a guitar in hand makes it much easier due to his strong connection to music.
Character Summary: Indie tune could be described as an enigma. How he reacts is entirely dependent on the situation. Generally very energetic and at ease, in most cases Indie would be overly-confident and even a bit showy, but never boastful. In cases where he feels nervous or afraid however, especially when other ponies are around he tends to remain hidden away from the center of attention. He constantly questions himself and the feelings of the ponies around him. This conviction drives him to better himself and his surroundings, but cuts his self confidence severely. His feelings of being unsure quickly dissipate at the touch of nearly any musical instrument though.
Despite his anti-social tendencies Indie is very helpful and compassionate. He helps anypony he can, but usually does his good deeds in secret so he wont attract any unwanted attention. He is extremely loyal to the few close friends he has, seeing as they're the ones he tends to confide in. He considers them closer than family because he isn't very close with any of his family besides his parents.
* Indie started playing music at a young age. He caught his mothers attention by humming and singing all the time. This led her to buy him a drum set and later many more instruments he would learn to play.with relative ease. However, he always focused on his singing because to him, it always felt like flying. Unfortunately, as he aged his voice deepened and he lost his high range. This only drove him to work harder to find a new sound and style for his voice. a deeper, more meaningful style.
Indie's Work is, to say the least, his entire life. Its how he reacts with other ponies most easily. To him painting, drawing, or writing a song, is like expressing an emotion or idea and then having the finished product tell everypony else what he was trying to say. This makes him somewhat of a busy body. He dislikes wasting time,and constantly wants to be doing something, whether it writing, working, or actively relaxing.
* Indie had trouble in school, and always associated with the underdogs, which put him in a less than appealling position dealing with social groups. Despite his musical aptitude he never tried out for band or choir, seeing only another large group of ponies to pick on him and make him uncomfortable. Instead he found it more pleasing to practice at home and remain incognito at school. At least as much as possible. Sometimes one of his friends would bring a guitar to school and would ask Indie to play, and he almost always would. Being self taught, however, he had a different style to his music that the other groups of musical ponies would shun, simply because it didn't conform to the standards that their teachers had set for them.
Indie has a very protective nature. This is because in school he and his friends were the group most others picked on, and Indie learned quickly to stand up for himself and his friends, which brought him closer to his friends, but set him further apart from the main crowd. That being said, Indie is generally passive but has had a history of unresolved anger issues, which he uses to fuel his heavier music and more aggressive pieces.
* Indie's family consists of himself, his mother and father and his little brother. He is very close to all three of them, but for different reasons. His mother, who started him as a musician has always pushed him, but holds doubt that he will succeed because of his different style of playing. His Father has always been more detached. He is a hardworking pony, but tends to get caught up in his work and leaves everypony else to themselves. His little brother was his best friend until he left for Manehattan and found Jones. Indie feels bad for replacing him with an otter, but he's sure his little brother would understand. He liked animals more than Indie ever will. Occasionally Indie heads back to Canterlot to see his family, but mostly he just writes to them. If he could fly he'd probably visit them more often.
Lastly, Jones, Indie's pet otter is very special to him,because she's one of the few constants in his life. Where shows, pieces, and friends are found missing, Jones is always around to support Indie. The best part is they dont have to speak to communicate, which puts Indie at ease. Somehow, he finds it easier to understand Jones, than the ponies he talks to at shows or in town.
