What would Nightmare Night be without a trip through the Everfree Forest? Travel along the dimly lit path, through the shadowy woods. Not to worry though, Princess Luna has enchanted the way to the old castle, protecting all who stay within the light. However, there may be a few brave adventurers hiding just behind a tree or bush, waiting to scare those who pass by, willing to risk their own safety for a spooky prank. Be sure not to step off the path in fright!

He would be lying if he said that he was doing this for fun; but then again after all when you've been living in the Everfree for about a year and somepony organizes something literally at your doorstep, it'll be foolish not to check it out...right?

Lightwind has spend the majority of the day trying to give himself excuses not to go out for that day, after all it's Nightmare Night and there would be a high propensity for ponies to be out in force on the streets. The first excuse was of course that he had nothing to wear, but he quickly realized that not only would his Shadowbolt costume double up as a Nightmare Night costume, he had the perfect excuse, being that nopony really knew who he was, to roleplay....as himself.

Like a bat in the night, he flew silently towards the castle.

Landing at the start of the pathway, he noticed the illuminated path, lighting the way to the castle, and true to form, took a sidestep and half flitted, half trotted on the gravel and grass beside the path.

Ambling down the lit pathway, Ingrid Marie marveled at the sights before… or at least, tried to with what lighting was available. The counselor all her life heard of the tales surrounding the untamed wilds of the Everfree Forest, but up until now she never dared to venture into it. Not that the place filled her with a sense of dread terror though; spending most of her time working in what essentially amounted to an ivory tower, the Canterlot native had the luxury of viewing the legendary forest as an object of curiosity rather than a local breeding ground of horrors beyond imagination. Like with any forest though, it tended to be a foolish idea to wander through one without the assistance of a beaten path; now that a trail to the Moon Palace had been magically blazed, Ingrid finally saw a chance to safely experience the forest for herself.

Having not initially planned to take part in any other Nightmare Night festivities in Ponyville, Ingrid did not change into an outfit other than her regular working clothes. No, she didn’t to give herself additional hassles besides taking the train ride down from Canterlot and securing a room at an inn for the night. For the time being, the trotting Ingrid paid attention to the feral trees illuminated by the pathway, paying no heed to whatever lurked away from the enchanted trail…

Steven slithered along the Manebrush River as if it was his home... oh wait, it was. Err, that aside, Steven was no stranger to these lands, having swum here many times before, but today his heart pounded with fresh excitement. The reason? It was his first-ever pony holiday, and he was going to be celebrating it with ponies! Hundreds of ponies! Oh, how he loved ponies! How he envied their legs, and their wings and their horns! Having heard an offhand murmur regarding the "Nightmare Night", probably coming from the Mayor, the serpent called out an inquiry, and was soon informed on the wonders of the holiday. Steven, (relatively) learned in the art of fashion, designed a simple Guard of Tartarus costume, coiffing his mane into silly little horns, and wearing dyed-seaweed gloves around a stone trident. It really wasn't up to the reptilian's standards, but he did the best he could with the time given.

The gloomy, dilapidated castle finally came into view, glowing dimly under the moon's silver light. Ponies were congregated at its base, and Steven, squeaking with pure giddiness, scanned the area for the stream that would run closest to the fortress. Ah, there it was. Eughhh, it was so shallow and muddy, Steven feared it would ruin his costume. Still, he swam forward, cringing at the wet slapping sounds his waving tail made, until the water deepened again, and led straight to the action! Steven couldn't retain his excitement anymore. He threw up his arms theatrically and yelled:

Guiding Light let out a gulp of fear as he stood at the entrance of the Everfree Forest. He had been in the forest once and had actually got lost, an experience he did not wish to repeat. Yet without getting lost, he probably wouldn't find his ability to create light and get his cutie mark that fateful night.

He had heard about the ancient Moon Palace and wanted to go see it. Thankfully on Nigthtmare Night he was going to get his chance to visit it. Yet the unicorn knew that this was a night of candy but also a creepy night. And what better a crepy place than in the Forest.

He walked down the path, dressed in a green hooded cape with a silvery mask that looked like a chatacter from his favorite series The Battle Mages. He had a ball of light that hovered above him to light the way and hopefully deter any creepy monsters that lurked within. Of course, the light could also be a magnet to all things wierd, but that thought didn't cross Light's mind.

Finally with the castle entrance in front of him and having no monsters visit him, Light had a ease of calm.

"H..hello? Anypony home?"

It was then that he came face to face with a sea serpent who proudly made his appearance. This caused Light to jump with fright, but then on a second glance this one wasn't some evil creature it was actually friendly.

Lightwind's stroll had been uneventful, broken only by the sound of his hooves crunching dead leaves and the sound of the creatures of the night.

Finally the monotony was broken by the sound of running water, and Lightwind found that there was a small stream intersecting the path.

Squinting in the darkness, he prepared to make a short hop across the stream and resume his journey, only for there to be a slight shift in the darkness, just before...

"HELLLOOOOOO EVERYPONY!"

Lightwind knew he was probably expected to be scared; why else could a sea serpent put on such a gaudy outfit and yell out of the blue? Clearly meant to scare.....but somehow the way that it was said, coupled with the sea serpent's voice, just made it seem.....hilarious?

Lightwind looked up and pondered for a second, hoping his goggles would hide the indecision in his eyes. "What would his teammates do?" Then seemingly deciding on his course of action, he flew up till he was eye level to the serpent and then replied in the most gravely voice he could muster.

"Uh-HA! Nice try! Totally not scared! Um-TOTALLY!" making up this bravado was harder than he thought

In due time, Ingrid Marie made it to the front entrance of the abandoned Moon Palace, where other ponies were already congregating. Fortunately, the rest of Ingrid’s journey had gone without incident… so far. Not sure why everypony else was just waiting there, the unicorn kept a distance away, observing the group near the close-by stream. As Ingrid keep herself focused on the ruins, she failed to notice a costumed water dragon making his way upstream.

And so Ms. Marie screamed out in terror when a sudden shout behind her took her by complete surprise. All too quickly, Ingrid turned around just to see what scared her, only to find the cheerful-looking water dragon with his silly costume. Embarrassed that she could be frightened by a dragon simply shouting “Hello Everypony!”, Ingrid now couldn’t help but laugh at herself… quite loudly as a matter of fact.

“Well, I suppose I should have expected to be scared on Nightmare Night,” stammered the unicorn, trying to speak through her hysterics…
