Moondancer’s cutie mark is a crescent moon surrounded by three stars arranged in a triangle formation. The stars and moon represent both Moondancer’s love for the night and her affinity for magic.

As a young foal curious about magic, Moondancer’s parents gave her one birthday a collection of magic spellbooks written for beginners, mainly focusing on levitation tricks. All too eager to explore her budding abilities, Moondancer read through the books and preformed the recommended exercises. Sometimes, she even snuck off after bedtime to a Canterlot park, practicing in the moonlight. One such night, a duo of watchponies caught the filly performing her nocturnal practice routine. Fearing that her parents would find out and ground her for sneaking out, Moondancer was relieved when the guards offered to keep the incident a secret… provided that she never break curfew again, of course. After she was quietly escorted home, Moondancer resolved at that moment to do all it took to become a renowned magician. Upon waking up the following morning, the filly discovered that she had obtained her cutie mark.

History:

Born in the city of Canterlot, Moondancer enjoyed a foalhood similar to that of many other unicorns born in Equestria’s capital. However unlike the typical unicorn, the young filly showed a very strong affinity for magic from a very young age, possessing the ability to levitate large numbers of objects all at once. Noting how much she excelled while attending magic kindergarten compared to other foals, Moondancer’s parents did all they could to help their daughter develop her talent for magic. In was during this period that Moondancer received her cutie mark; sensing that their efforts wouldn’t be enough on their own, her parents enrolled her in Princess Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns.

However, Moondancer’s entrance examination served as a humbling experience for the young unicorn. While it was evident that she displayed extraordinary raw power compared to a typical unicorn, she had failed to study much beforehand on the actual science and inner workings magic. This became all too apparent when Moondancer attempted her test; ignorant of the necessary magical processes required to complete the School's standard testing scenarios, the filly couldn’t successfully perform the tasks required of her even while using up all her magical energy. Things looked grim for Moondancer, dreading the thought that she would be denied enrollment. To her delightful surprise however, the exam proctors reluctantly agreed that the filly nonetheless had enough potential to become a student at Celestia’s School.

Under the watchful tutelage of her magic instructors, Moondancer thrived as a student at Celestia’s School. Juggling her studies and her friends, the unicorn earned good marks from her teachers, even if she isn’t quite valedictorian material. Combined with various recommendations from her professors, Moondancer easily earned enrollment in Canterlot University in its nationally-famous Aetherology program. While Moondancer’s ultimate goal still remains to become a magician of great skill, she has yet to decide just how exactly she will utilize her talents.....

Character Summary:

Having mastered a modest number of diverse spells and achieved basic competency in numerous others, Moondancer is considered a beta-class unicorn on the U.M.A.T. scale. While the young mare’s abilities pale in comparison of those of prodigies like Twilight Sparkle, Moondancer’s gifts are nothing to scoff at. Most notably, the unicorn’s magic specialty lies in the sustained use of short-distance teleportation spells. Loving teleportation spells most of all, Moondancer spends much of her time perfecting the art of warping from one location to the next. Confident in her abilities, the unicorn is not at all afraid to demonstrate her own powers to others, but she also really likes it when other unicorns show off their own special magical talents too.

True to her name, Moondancer is in fact quite the avid dancer. As dancing is the mare’s favorite hobby (after magic), she spends almost as much time practicing dance moves as she does her spells. In many instances, she practices both at the same time; Moondancer is especially good at incorporating teleportation into her dance routine. It is not an uncommon sight in the Canterlot nightlife scene to see Moondancer use a spell or two to help her party down to the beats of a DJ (DJ Pon-3 being her favorite of them all). Ponies are advised to stay clear of her on the dance floor though, least they get caught in her “magic wake”.

Due to the young mare’s desire to befriend as many peers as she can, Moondancer is one of the most genuinely popular students at Canterlot University. Moondancer always does what she can to make her schoolmates feel welcome and to make them happy, winning ponies over with her love of delivering cornball jokes and anything else that’s silly. The mare also maintains friendly relationships with her professors at CU and Celestia’s School, often pulling an occasional light-hearted prank on her teachers here and there. If Moondancer is not in class, practicing magic, or hanging out on the dance floor, she is most likely found either at group study sessions, a birthday or slumber party, or outside at night stargazing with a group of friends.

Sometimes though, ponies wonder whether Moondancer is able to keep track of all of her friends and acquaintances. Moondancer’s organizational skills are subpar even on her better days; consequently, she’s notorious for waiting until the last minute to cram for tests or finish up papers. Understanding that her procrastination limits her ability to retain the knowledge she learns, Moondancer is currently seeking tutoring to improve her study habits. Additionally, Moondancer absolutely needs to be with a group of friends in order to study; reading textbooks and writing papers by herself seems to drain the mare of her mental energy. Moondancer is also infamous for keeping messy dorm rooms, although the apologetic mare will always attempt to hurriedly clean her space if requested… to varying effectiveness.

Even though she always makes an effort to befriend her peers, Moondancer cannot tolerate jerks and grumpy misanthropes who reject her friendship. The unicorn will not hesitate to either stay away from such ponies or tell them off should they opt to bother her. Moondancer also can’t stand professors who are completely boring and never engage their students; the unicorn will take a hard but intellectually-satisfying course over an easy snooze fest any day. Aetherology has no shortage of challenging and rewarding courses, but the aspiring magician considers her required general education courses to be a waste of time. Moondancer despises history most of all; perceiving the subject to be nothing more than a thinly-connected timeline of dates and “famous” ponies, she barely s****es by with mediocre grades in her historical survey courses.

Despite Moondancer’s shortcomings, her drive to connect with other classmates and willingness to take charge when necessary frequently makes her a leader-figure in groups, either for social activities or class assignments. Serious about exploring her future career options as a magic practitioner, the unicorn already has found an internship position overseeing the practice hall back at her old school, which is working out quite well so far. Moondancer may not know her ultimate career destination just yet, but she has every confidence she'll find a way to make a significant difference in ponies’ lives with her talents…

It was drawn by a Deviantart artist named SkyHeavens, actually (as indicated by the watermark). I thought it was a pretty good G4 interpretation of Moondancer, so I'll use it for this app; see the original here.

Also added artist info in OP.

In a few days probably, I'll request one of the artists around here to draw a G4-ized Moondancer pic that I'll use as my actual general-use post header.

Hello :). Moondancer was always one of my favorites! I am glad someone's trying to bring her into the environment!

So, we had a discussion on this character and there are a few things that you're going to need to change.

One thing that you should be aware of is that despite being mentioned in the show, this version of Moondancer will certainly not be the one that appears if the character does appear on the show. So we are not going to be considering her a cast member, and there is a possibility that her name will have to change if the character on the show is revealed (I know, I know, this is the character's name, and it was there first, but we are here to uphold FiM show canon and not G1 canon, and copyright has expired on that character. The only copyright Hasbro likely retains on that name is a blue earth pony with yellow hair, and that probably won't be what is revealed either...). Also, in case it matters, her streak is actually lavender, he heheh. I have a Moondancer right here staring at me, but you don't have to change that.

The second thing is the egg test. That has to go. Word of Lauren Faust says that that test was only given to Twilight.

The final thing is teleportation. After a lengthy discussion we've decided to allow limited teleportation, as long as it is the character's special talent, and it is limited like you point out in your application. She might be able to improve in RP, but please make sure it's not the focus, and keep it reasonable. Across the room is fine, across town is not.

Let us know when this is ready to go again!

Thanks you for the response!

I understand the issue here; I will change Moondancer's tag to OC.

The second thing is the egg test. That has to go. Word of Lauren Faust says that that test was only given to Twilight.

Word of Lauren Faust also says that "if it's not in the show, it should not be considered canon"; no matter what opinions she has about the show's characters and universe. However, I see no real reason to actively protest this decision on what is essentially a minor sticking point, so I will remove references to the egg test.

PS: I assume the egg-test rule is a recent one? I've seen one approved OC app which also incorporated a failed egg-test.

The final thing is teleportation. After a lengthy discussion we've decided to allow limited teleportation, as long as it is the character's special talent, and it is limited like you point out in your application. Whew! For sure, I'd thought this would be the thing that'd most likey be the biggest sticking point. Glad to see that isn't the case... and yes, my character will teleport responsibly.

Let us know when this is ready to go again!

My app is edited and ready to go again!
