Secrets in the Garden (Harv0kz)

Cherry wandered the gardens of the Royal Palace, her custom Gala Gown just brushing the ground as she walked. The sapphire blue gown set off the sparkle of her blue eyes, as well as complimented her red and pink mane and tail. Her wings stayed folded tight as she meandered, pausing to smell a rose or lavender blossom occasionally. The white pegasus was content, her detective job going as well as could be expected in a country as peaceful as Equestria. She sighed, wishing someone would join her in her wanderings.

Well, now that's out of the way, I can finally do what I came here to do. Explore the gardens for whatever rare breed exists.

Wayward Amethyst had just come out of the Dance Hall, taking in a breath of fresh, nightly air as he entered the gardens proper. After that fiasco in the Dance Hall, he was ready for a change of scenery, and maybe some bits of quiet, hopefully, no mare would hit up on him, and definitely hoping that one without secrets won't hit him up. With nopony around to complain about his lack of maintained to his attire, he began to loosen his clothes so the air could flow through his body, bringing some relief to his already tense and hot body.

Spotting another mare in the garden, he decided to pretend he didn't see her. And yes, although she seemed to be minding her own business, Wayward was quite intrigued as to why she was there. But kept that question at the back of his head as he spotted a rare bird fly past him. He quickly began to reach for his notebook, his eyes on the colourful bird but his hooves moving as if they had a mind of their own. As he tracked the bird, he didn't realize that his head was slowly and obviously turning towards the mare's direction.

Cherry spied the bird flying and smiled to herself. The freedom of flight would be nice right now, but at the risk of leaving the Gala while her sister was inside mingling with everypony else she couldn't. She saw the stallion watching her and momentarily froze. Who was he, and why did he have to be here now, of all times? She sighed. Better to get things over with and move along than stay put and be studied. She approached slowly, taking her time as the menagerie of fauna made itself known softly.

"Can I help you, sir?" She asked, her voice gentle despite her overwhelming urge to yell. It was too peaceful here to disturb it by yelling at a pony she didn't know. Her wings fluttered, her body ready to take to the skies should the need arise.

Wayward had just realized what he had done inadvertently. Bad move on his part. Get your head in the game. You've just made a biiiiiig mistake. His subconscious practically yelled at him, leaving his head slightly ringing from that mental outburst. By the time he realized that the mare was approaching him, he knew he needed to thread carefully or risk having a bunch of guards escort him out before his work was done. Slowly putting away his notebook, he made a neutral expression on his face apparent to her, despite his internal psyche trying to gather his wills and focus together.

And when he was spoken to, he made sure to reply in a similar tone of voice. "I was just tracking quite bird that's quite rare. I didn't mean to look as if I was lookin' at you. My apologies." Wayward sputtered out instead. Well, that may have just ruined it. Wayward though in his mind. He only hoped he wouldn't be shouted at or had attention drawn to him, given that he had just narrowly risked his future reputation a few minutes ago.

Cherry laughed at the stallion's honesty, delight lighting her eyes.

"I can understand that. What brings you to this neck of the gardens, anyway?" she asked, relief filling her. She wasn't exactly looking for somepony to woo her, not after her last dating fiasco.

"I'm an explorer. It's my job... No. Duty, to document and record the hidden reaches of Equestria, no matter how far, or how close they may be. And no matter how much they have already done before me, I still want to do it. In my way. Wayward told the mare, as the bird flew into a clearing infront of him, and he began to curiously observe it, his attention affixed to the majestic creature, it's rainbow coloured tail and red body, along with it's unique chirping fascinated Wayward in a child-like way, enticing him to move slightly closer, having lost attention on the conversation, as he slowly began to reach back for his notebook and pen.

"Fascinating... a Red Colourtail... These are usually found closer to the coastlines of Equestria where trees are. I'm surprised one here can take the climate of central Equestria..." He said, talking to nopony, or probably himself.

Cherry laughed as he began to talk to himself, the bird scaring at the sudden noise.

"Oh, nuts! I'm so sorry! I'll bring her back, if you want..." She said repentantly, true remorse in her voice. She hadn't meant to scare the beautiful bird away.

"Red Colourtails can survive here because of the Princess' magic. All sorts of beautiful and rare creatures live here." She added, opening her wings to herd the bird back.

"Fascinating..." Wayward said in a curious tone to both what the mare had said and to the majesty of the bird. He now paid more attention to the bird than the presence of the Mare than before.

"Magic tends to solve everything these days. I wonder if they've discovered something for crossing treacherous gaps, or disabling hidden traps. Such magic would be useful, to anypony. Then again, only a Unicorn could do such a thing. A shame nopony has made magic available and portable to all." Continuing to talk in a psuedo-scholarly tone, he observed how the bird made it's sweet sounding call, which refreshed his ears by flushing out the music from inside the Dance Hall, and while it was quite quiet, it's chirping was beautiful.

"Say, do you by any chance know what else lives around here? A Red Colourtail is beautiful alright, but rare it is not if you've been to the warmer coasts. Sadly, nopony travels hard and far these days. The train's they way to go they say. It just takes all the fun out of traveling." Wayward sounded as if he was reciting something, but the question he first mentioned still stood to the Mare, unintentionally rattling off topic.

Cherry beamed. She knew, only because she had seen them just recently.

"Well, there are Wallaroos, meadowlarks, toucans, and some peacocks...oh, and watch your head for the spider monkeys. I'm Cherry Bloom, and if you need it, I think I can bring a few out for you to see..." She said, partially laughing at the idea of being taken seriously about bringing out the animals. She could do it, she was sure, but it was unlikely they would stand still long enough to be documented. She could probably guide the stallion to a few of the animals without too much trouble.

"Nope, it'll be fine looking out for these creatures on my own. speaking of which... here comes a toucan. That means other similar birds are around this area. The Colourtail's call must've been a pretty good one to bring this many birds to a single spot." He figured that it had heard the colourtail's call and had come down from where it had been to check out what was going on. Both began to interact with each other. And although Wayward wasn't a animal scientist, it was still quite a rare sight for him to behold.

"My name's Crymson, by they way..." Wayward added on as a missing courtesy on his part, but still kept to using his nickname instead of his actual name for the purposes of his own privacy. His attention was still affixed to the birds that were gathering near the Colourtail, which he slowly noted down.
