Dreamscape *Out of Character* Luna/Dreams/Open

For a thousand years, ponies dreamed without the hostile environment of an evil presence impeding on their slumber. For it was before then, that Princess Luna was invaded by a nightmare, a nightmare so convincingly terrifying that it transformed Luna, even in her waking hours. It happened over several nights. The thoughts consumed her, it deteriorated her composure and instead of allowing her Princess qualities remain prevalent, exploited her lack of reason and her pride. The stubbornness inside Luna helped the nightmare take over, and Nightmare Moon she became. The Princess was poisoned by a spirit of evil, that which destroys the qualities of a pony and replaces their mind's eye with greed and jealousy.

Today, Luna is enamored of her return, and the love her sister was able to return to her. The elements of harmony proved that Luna was not Nightmare Moon, but was rather possessed by the nightmare during her banishment. She learned what nightmares are capable of, and sought a way to prevent it from happening again, in her life but also others as well. Over months after Luna was returned to Equestria, she studied hard about the dreamscape, attempting to dive into the possibilities. Eventually she was able to enter other pony's dreams. After several experiments, she realized that she was also able to find ways of manipulating what happens in the dreamscape. And one night, when her assistant was sleeping, she entered into their dream to find that they were having a nightmare, one where the pony was told they were fired from their job and no one afterwards would hire them. Luna transformed the negativity into an opportunity, one that allowed the assistant a chance to fulfill their dream positively.

But Luna knew that wasn't all there was to it. There was something else going on. Why did it get to this point? What kinds of problems caused these kinds of nightmares? Luna appeared to the pony in her dream, and after some council, it was discovered that real life issues on her work environment and stress had weakened the pony's ability to push forward in their dreams. After they awoke, Luna made sure her assistant had job security and set her on a two week vacation with regular wages included. From there on, Luna made it her duty as Princess of the Night to protect ponies from their nightmares, but also help them solve the issue that caused them to fall into that state of mind to begin with.

The evening had set it, and the moon was already raised, glowing its reflection on the dew in the plains and dancing on the running water in the streams. Luna had taken care of the usual, and she entered into her dreaming chamber, the room where she meditates on the dreamscape. Luna wrote down a few notes on her table and then sat back in her chair, pillowed from the bottom, soft enough to allow the Princess to concentrate. After a sudden glow from her horn, a few seconds passed and she lost consciousness.

Out of Character:

Welcome to the dreamscape. In these threads, Luna will be wandering in the sea of slumber, attentive to protect her subjects from horrifying nightmares and encourage them in their life. Here, your pony will be asleep. And whatever troubles them at night, Luna will help guide them and protect them. It is a gem to meet the princess of the night while you are sleeping. If you would like to join the thread, you will need to sign up and wait your turn, as Luna can only answer dreams one at a time in a RP setting. Here's what you will need to provide to participate: (provide them in this OOC)

1. Develop a dream for your pony - It should be inspired by your character's typical lifestyle and expectations. (i. e. Applejack dreams about apples, Rainbow Dash dreams about racing or cloud busting, etc.)

2. Develop a conflict in the dream - Something goes wrong that causes your character grief. What is it? Does it frighten them? Does it make them doubt? Does it make them sad? This would be the part of the dream that turns whatever was going on into a horrible nightmare.

3. Post your developments in this thread for review. I may suggest some changes, but this is mostly so that I can know what to expect with Luna in the dreamscape.

4. Upon approval, you will be added to the queue. When it is your characters turn, I will PM you to confirm the start of the new thread and we will being the role play.

Things to note about the dreamscape:

-Yes, it is a dream, so none of it is physically happening, but Luna is actually there in spirit.

-As you are allowed to create your own dream, it is encouraged to explore the zany strangenesses that occur in a world where everything is not quite as it seems.

-Please refer to Season 3 Episode 6 "Sleepless in Ponyville" to get an idea of how strange one is allowed to get. You may notice it is one of the darkest episodes of the series. But, remember that it is also not Discord World.

-It is hard to control your dream. As a player you are making the dream, but please allow your character to be unable to change anything about it. Your dream should not change based on your character's will.

-Try to contain the length of the story. I have removed post limits as they proved not effective for the purpose of the stories, however, understand that this is more in the vein of teaching your character a life lesson rather than spending time with Princess Luna and becoming her best friend and being appointed the new assistant to the Princess, etc.

Dreamer: Presteza

Species: Unicorn

Notable fears and faults:

Afraid of the windigoes due to having heard of them in the story of hearth's warming eve, Scared of having her paintings disliked by those she paints them for, Scared of being rendered unable to paint ever again.

Dreamscape: Presteza is painting a large mural that she considers her finest work only to find everypony hates it to point she is run out of her hometown by even her family. She is left wandering equestria and trying desperately to paint again but due to her emotional state she's unable to lift even her favorite paintbrush or find it in herself to try and paint in other ways. Due to her feeling she is now hated and loathed by everypony in Equestria begins to delude herself into thinking the windigoes have taken an interest in her and wish to kid- er foalnap her.

Reasons for her dream: A customer she painted a portrait for saying her work was merely "okay"

Reaction to her nightmare: Fear, slight anger, and extreme selfdoubt

((Is this okay?))

(Going to start off with Sweet Surprise as my first dreamer)

Name: Sweet Surprise (Earth Pony Young Mare)

Fears: Failure, rejection by ponies, not having friends, her dreams as a candy maker being crushed

Reason: Her dreams of becoming a well-known candy making pony and how fragile success can be.

Reaction to Nightmare: Fear, self doubt, depression

Everything was perfect for the event. Long tables were set out along the walls of the room covered in white tablecloths containing every imaginable chocolate treat. There were plates of chocolate brownies, cake, chocolate kisses and yummy chocolate fudge. To drink there was water and hot chocolate. There were even beautiful hoof made chocolate sculpture decorating the long tables. In the center of the room there were tables covered in the same white cloth with tables around it and centerpieces themed like candy. It was a perfect event, one that Sweet Surprise planned out for weeks, a chocolate themed party where she could showcase her talents to other ponies, hoping that they would enjoy the chocolate earth pony's talents as a candy maker.

But instead of this being a dream, this had become a nightmare. No pony showed up to her event! It was just her, alone in the festival that she created, feeling the weight of her failure. She expected there to be some interested in festival and in relation her talent and even just her as a pony. Now all of this was put to doubt.

Name: Filthy Rich

Dream: Trotting through a barren hellish landscape similar to the Dragon Peaks caldera, Filthy sees something shiny off in the distance. Galloping, he finds a huge pile of gold and jewels... and his daughter Diamond Tiara curled up on top of it, sleeping like a dragon hoarding her treasure. When Diamond doesn't respond to her father's shouts, Filthy tries climbing the pile himself, but slips and falls down with each attempt. Repeat ad nauseam until something interferes.....

Reaction to Nightmare: Powerlessness, self-doubt.

Reason for Nightmare: Mr. Rich constantly worries that her daughter is more interested in satisfying her vanity than working long and hard to find something productive that she can actually stick to.

Misc. Fears/Dislikes: Does not care at all much for the Canterlot/Manehattan/Stalliongrad high society scene; does what he can to dissuade Diamond Tiara from living that sort of lifestyle.

Name: Sky Sailing

Dreamscape: Sky Sailing is performing a small musical gig at a cafe. As he starts in on his songs, the notes won't play. No matter what he does, no sound will emerge from his instruments, or his mouth. He looks over at his audience, now realizing that silence has swallowed them as well.

In the streets of the city, to the very edge of the horizon, not a sound is to be heard. Laughter, tears, screams, nothing will break the spell cast over the land...

Reaction to Nightmare: creeping horror, panic, helplessness

Reason for Nightmare: Sky is a musician, just starting out trying to make a living using his songs. It's been rough starting out, and he's beginning to wonder if anypony really is listening. Additionally, he's always had the difference between "productive" and "unproductive" labor drilled into him from his work in the factory/warehouse district, and he's also doubting whether his songs would make any more impact on the world than his day job.

Wow, I am amazed at the number of responses so far. Looks like this something people always dreamed about. Thank you for the format, it works great! Please be patient as I review through these. They look good for the most part. The dreams don't go through a ridged application process, I just need the information out of character.

Oh wait....not that kind of dream? Ehhh I still sign up for this.

Name: Swift Squall

Dreamscape: Unyasi savanna ablaze, with a zebra village burning in the background. In the middle of inferno Swift Squall is locked in sword duel with his former superior from mercenary group - Grey Condottier. Two unicorns fiercely fight with both swords and words. The mocking of Condottier, as well as his disregard of well being of others sends Squall into rage, which makes him overpower the older unicorn. Standing over his beaten opponent - still taunting his despite his loss - Squall fights with himself, torn between his sense of justice and desire to end the villain here and now. And this is where dream should end.

Reaction: Guilt. Resignation. Self blaming. Fear of himself and failure.

Reason: Unlike other dreams this is reliving of actual event from Squall's life. It reminds the swordstallion of his guilt (both for helping with the starting operations and burned zebra village). Although the fire wasn't his doing unicorn still blames himself for it - mostly because his sense of responsibility. He also almost gave in to his hatred (no spoilers here. He didn't do it), and the event made him the stoic he is now, to never lose self-control ever again(although he is successfully defrosting. Mostly because of friendship (and more) of several big hearted ponies). It is also his drive to became a better pony although a self-destructive one at that, as he just can't let it go and forgive himself.

Misc: Squall had this Nightmare for years and knows every detail of it. Any intervention will make swordstallion notice and turn him into lucid dreamer.

This is great. My only suggestion is to make something obscurely parallel. In Sleepless in Ponyville, Scootaloo's fear of the olden pony was parallelled with her fear of RD rejecting her. These are totally different reasons to be afraid, but they connect to each other. If there is a social fear a pony has, it does not need to look exactly the same way in the dream. However, it can, if you want it too.

I could try and tie it in with her magical disablity if need be? she has always had afraid she's not as good as other unicorns because of her magical problems... im not sure if im missing the point with this suggestion though.

Huh, I just realized that I used practically the same nightmare for Prince Blueblood in the Nightmare Night thread he was in. I'd honestly forgotten about this when I wrote that.

Dreamer: Shadowe Flare

Species: Unicorn

Notable fears and faults: Shadowe has always been afraid of hurting anypony with his magic, seeing as he can't properly control it yet.

Dreamscape: Shadowe is alone in a field, seeing the colors for the first time in his life. He begins to work a spell, only for the colors to fade and voices to fill his ears. When the spell is unleashed, all he hears is crying. He tries to help but keeps getting in the way and causing more harm than good.

Reasons for her dream: One of Shadowe's standard nightmares, worsened by the events of Nighmare Night.

Reaction to her nightmare: Extreme self-doubt, fear of never being able to achieve his dream of being in the REA.

made changes to one of the rules. Please understand that I want to give several ponies a chance to dream with Luna, which is why the post count exists. If you feel that's not enough posts, then plan on posting more often in order to keep the queue from stalling out.

Presteza is free to post in the thread with her intro as soon as Timid's final post is placed.

Sweet Surprised, I will be reviewing your dream soon.

Ok then River, I'll await your reply in case anything needs to be clarified/ updated with the dream. Actually Sweet Surprise's dream is based off of a thread the unfortunately didn't attract any others way back when I first started here playing as Sweet Surprise.

Name: Harrington Sleuth

Dream: Harrington is bolted down to a chair in the dark by all four hooves. He asks if anypony is around. He comments on how he doesn't think his current state is very funny and whoever had him captive needed to let him go. At that point, a single match is lit, and a lantern in turn. A pair of royal guards appear in the light and hang the lantern near the chair. He begins to ask what they want with him, but a punch to his jaw silences him before he can finish his question. An interrogation proceeds where they ask him many questions. Though he tells them what he knows, they present irrefutable evidence to counter his every answer. They accuse him of many, many crimes along the way. The questions and allegations will not stop.

Reaction to Nightmare: Confusion, panic, lack of reason under fire

Reason for Nightmare: His past with a pair of royal guards only involves a break-in at the palace, but he felt so close to the hammer of Celestia's justice that the encounter hasn't quite left him nor has the guilt.

Misc. Fears/Dislikes: He fears that he will never land some place that needs his talents or that he will commit a crime or hurt another in the process of his work. These will also tie in to his dream.

Interesting. Let's see how this goes.

Dreamer: Pyro Blaze

Species: Unicorn

Notable fears/faults: that no matter how hard he tries, he will never get full control over his fire. That he either cannot protect an innocent, or he is the one endangering others. That due to his anger, and his fire's connection to it, he will never be allowed into the REA.

Dreamscape: He is working pyrotechnics at a concert when it is attacked. He goes to defend the audience, but becomes a danger when his growing anger at the attackers causes his magic to start to overflow. He can't leave the audience to the mercy of the attackers, but he needs to in order to save them from his fire. He continues keeping the audience safe, but he can't keep his magic under control. He is, essentially, a time bomb at this point. He fears for the audience's safety, so he must leave, yet stay. No matter what he does, the audience is still in danger.

Reason: The threat of losing control was brought to the forefront of his mind by his close call during the running of the leaves.

Reaction: Fear, hopelessness, and sadness

Name: Fire Heart (Unicorn Older Filly)

Dream: The dream starts with Fire Heart in Clover Park, a place she knows well and visits often near her school. A crowd of ponies have gathered around her as they watch her practice her fire magic. manipulating balls of fires. The ponies are excited to see her perform as they cheer her on, asking her to do more. This makes her excited that ponies like what she is showing them. Then suddenly things turn wrong as Fire Heart attempts a new spell that creates a fiery ribbon that extends from her horn. The whip suddenly goes out of control as the ponies' faces turn to fear. Much as she tries to control it, the whip starts to start fires in the grass which quickly spreads into an inferno, engulfing the park in a short while. Fire is left sobbing as the flames are around her, quickly spreading through the city of Canterlot. The thing that is her talent and as much a part of her as her horn has now become her downfall and the city's greatest threat.

Fears: Loss of control with her fire magic, ponies being afraid of her, fear of hurting them.

Reason: Her fire magic is closely linked to her emotions, and for a while she lacked the control to tame it. Even though now she is better thanks to attending Princess Celestia's School, she still is afraid that one day if she isn't careful she might lose control.

Reaction to Nightmare: Fear, sadness, feeling that she is a monster, feeling that there are times she wishes she didn't have her magic.

Dreamer: Stronghold

Species: Unicorn

Notable fears/faults: Stronghold's biggest fear is losing anyone close to him, specifically his wife, Starlight, or daughter, Pastel. To lose them would be worse than being cast from the Guard, for he would not be able to live on if they were taken from his life.

Dreamscape: With blistering winds and cold temperatures, Stronghold's dreamscape is the frozen north, where he was born. The lights of his village flicker like lanterns of a fog-shrouded boat, but no matter how close he fights to get, the lights go out, one by one..

Pastel, his daughter, appears as a young filly in the snow, shivering and shaking when he finds her. She cries out for him, to which he answers by rushing to her side and trying his best to warm her. No matter how hard he tries, however, Pastel remains cold, and she keeps crying because of her shivering. Stronghold, distraught, tries to run to his village and get her inside, but he cant reach it, despite knowing he ran far enough to be in the middle of town. He gives up on trying to reach the village and lays down in the snow, beginning to feel the chill himself. However, he keeps Pastel out of it, his reassurances growing weak when his wife, Starlight, appears before him. She is dressed in black and sobbing, crying for Pastel, and Stronghold tries to show her that pastel is still in his hooves, but Starlight won't listen. Stronghold tries to ignore his wife's sobbing and focus on warming Pastel, but it's all just too much...

Reason: Stronghold is afraid of losing his daughter when she has her foal. He is afraid that he has not done enough for her since he was scarce in her filly hood due to the guard.

Reaction: Fear, devastation, concern, failure

Overhaul!!!

I am changing how the Dreamscape threads are organized. From now on, I'm going to have each character interaction as separate episodes that will have their own thread. These episodes are not necessary chronological. This will allow me to do several at a time. For now, I am willing to do five at a time. This number may change in the future. I'll be updating the lists soon so please stay attentive as your time may come when you least expect it!

I have also removed the 6-8 post limitation that was previously stated. You are now allowed to make the stories as short or as long as they need to be. However, please keep the story concentrated on your character dealing with an issue. This is not the Princess Luna social hour. ;)

The OP has been updated to reflect all of the changes.

Sleeper Dreamer: Razor the Griffon.

Fears: Being alone, his own self doubt about his worth, his insecurities of his short stature. His own surpressed emotions such as anger and sadness. The feeling of being the outcast. Feeling he will never live up to his fathers standards.

Dreamland: Open and clear skies, with a powerful wind. A flyers paradise. Razor flies through the sky as fast as he can, revealing in the adrenaline and freedom. But the sky then turns black and he stops when he sees the figure of his father and brothers; laughing at him as they fly away. Razor gets angry and flies after them, hoping to past them and show them who the speed demon is, but he can't keep up. Eventually black thorned vines grip him and yank him down to a dark cell like place and chains and manacles start wrapping around him while shadowy figures start appearing and mocking him about his height and other such fears of his.

Out of all the shadows the biggest is one of a griffon but details are vague who speaks of his failures as a griffon and his weakness. Razor can't stand this all and covers his ears as more chains wrap around him. Eventually two more shadows appear, looking like him one representing anger the other grief. Each tries to bring Razor down or get him angry telling him to give up on ever proving himself, or to lash out at others and give into his own hatreds. Each time the chains get tighter and more complex around his body and seem almost unbreakable. What can break these chains he doesn't know, but how can one break free from such things if they don't even know what it is they are fighting to be free for?

This suffice for an rp?
