What was supposed to be an average day in school for Swift Justice took a turn for the extraordinary when a trading card collection she brought for show & tell went missing during PE. Once it became determined that the only way the collection could have vanished was by theft, the class at once accused the one filly too indisposed to attend PE that day of the deed. Since nopony else could verify her claim of innocence, the teacher decided that surely she needed to be sent to the principal’s office at once.

OVERRULED! Swift Justice had a judge for a mother, and Swifty knew that her mom would never tolerate the “defendant” to be declared Guilty without a fair trial. If somepony needed to face justice for stealing Swifty’s cards, they better be the right pony! And so the teacher allowed her students to organize a mock trial to judge the defendant; Swifty herself asked to preside over the proceedings as a judge. As it turned out, no hard evidence or eyewitness testimony that proved the defendant’s guilt actually existed. Swift Justice never did recover her trading cards from the undiscovered true culprit, but the little pony did get her cutie mark as she confidently passed down a verdict of Not Guilty.

History:

Growing up in Manehattan, Swift Justice idolized her mother, Judge Hoofy Gavel. Some of Swifty’s fondest foalhood memories involve sitting in on court proceedings after school and on weekends, watching from the gallery as her mom decided numerous small claims cases. What really amazed Swifty however was how much control Judge Gavel exerted while on the job, never tolerating any courtroom antics and mercilessly chastising litigants if they spoke out of term or revealed if they did something foolish. The young Swift Justice daydreamed about being the same type of mare as her mother, but lacking a hard-as-nails personality back then, never believed she could follow in Judge Hoofy’s hoofsteps until arranging that mock classroom trial that won her a cutie mark.

Once her destiny revealed itself, Swift Justice worked hard to make her dream of becoming a judge a reality. She ceaselessly read up on court cases in the newspapers, asked her mother and her colleagues numerous questions about how it was like to be a judge and how to become one, and enrolled in the most prestigious law school in Equestria once she grew up into a young mare. Through tireless studying and sheer passion, Swift Justice graduated from her law school with high honors, and went on earn admittance to the bar.

While in law school, the driven Miss Justice undertook the next step on her path to become a trial judge; to gain legal experience by working as a prosecutor for the Manehattan District Attorney’s office. During her time as a prosecutor, Swifty became renowned for the extremely adversarial way she interacted with defense attorneys and witnesses. Harsh she might have been, but she was also highly respected as a stickler for procedure and somepony who never rested until she could reveal the complete truth. Prosecutor Justice was even known to lend courtroom assistance to lawyers who managed to prove a high possibility of somepony else committing a crime, even for cases against defendants that appeared airtight.

Many of Swift Justice’s DA’s Office colleagues thus regarded her as a “soft” prosecutor, but nopony dared question her integrity. Ms. Justice’s honesty and ambition to become a judge did not go unnoticed. Some years after first becoming a prosecutor, the mare won an appointment to the Superior Court of Canterlot, which holds jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases for Canterlot and the rest of the Heartland. To this day, Judge Justice presides in her courtroom, running proceedings with uncompromising orderliness.

Character Personality: Swift Justice’s long years of serving as a law school student, Manehattan prosecutor, and Canterlot Superior Court judge have turned her into a witty and assertive mare. In general, she has little patience for ponies who lie, unwilling to show respect towards herself or to others, or incapable of following directions. When she’s agitated, it is jokingly said that Judge Justice’s death glares are capable of killing even ghosts!

The Judge maintains very strict control over her courtroom, not letting anypony get away with crazy antics or other nonsense. Swift Justice has a reputation for ruthlessly fining those she holds in contempt of court; equally unforgiving of such actions as improper courtroom behavior, deliberately explaining things in the most confusing way possible, and failure to follow legal procedure. Ms. Justice does not hesitate to verbally spar with attorneys and witnesses that she finds disagreeable, cutting them off from speaking if she deems it necessary.

Naturally, being a trial judge can be quite stressful for Swift Justice at times. It is for this reason that the middle-aged mare lives in Ponyville instead of Canterlot, as she finds living in the small town soothing to her spirit. Swifty spends much of her free time looking enjoying the pleasures of nature and book club discussions; she’s in the middle of writing her first legal advice book as a matter of fact. When Swifty simply needs to wind down, a cheery song is enough to put a smile on her face.

Character Summary: Don’t try to annoy Judge Justice in her courtroom. Please don’t.
