Quick Draw leaned on the railing of the Kestrel. He looked out across the sky and clouds and saw a giant flaming mountain. It looked terrifying but also pretty neat at the same time. He stood with his rifle next to him, he needed to be ready for combat, acording to the captain. Draw also had two small five shot pistols. They were of his own creation and they hung from his side. They fired glowing red balls that were like smal meteors, they would explode on contact, it wasn't like a grendae or canon ball though.

Quick Draw wondered what combat would be like if it did happen on the ship. He how quick it would come on, or how it would be caused. Quick Draw looked down and saw a small dingy leaving the ship. It was the research team the captain had mentioned. He hoped they would be fine, be he also hoped they would start anything down there. They were hundreds of feet in the air, if this ship went down, and somehow his wings were injured, he would fall with it.

Aven had brought good news, it would appear that the wounded pegasus would bedridden for a shorter time that he would have thought. “He's a lively one then, thank Celestia for small favors,” Taalix said more to himself than anything. Either the pair of them would leave as soon as Valor was sufficiently healed, or even if that proved impossible it was easier to account for a mostly healthy pegasus than an injured one. Either way, it would be one less factor for the captain to worry about.

Volt's apology caused Taalix to glance back at the pegasus for a moment, before his gaze returned to the mountain in the distance. “The Kestrel is equipped to handle two passengers, so there shouldn't be an issue unless one of you does something stupid. As so far you yourself have acted completely professionally, I don't expect to have any problems in that regard.” The gryphon's tone was mostly that of approval, though it contained a slight hint of threatening as well.

Taalix watched the mountain again, idly tapping his claws against the control sticks they were resting on. After a moment he sent the Kestrel into a slow rotation, turning gently counterclockwise. Unable to do much more than wait, Taalix was still loathe to waste time. Hoping to get a sense of another part of the situation, he asked “So, Volt, what brings the Crusaders out this far?”

Luminous Spark pondered the question in silence, which resulted in the ride to the surface being quiet until the dingy just started to reach the treetops. Or at least, what would have once been the treetops, though few of the trees actually reached that height now. The unicorn began muttering, “...we have extra unused shells...a specialized energy burst might...” before looking up at her companion. “Aerus you're a genius! Yes, with a little work that should be doable solely from the ship.”

“That's...great.” Aerus smiled awkwardly. A survey from the air seemed like the only reasonable way to conduct this, and he wasn't quite sure how to react to common sense being called 'genius'. He wasn't one to turn away a compliment though.

A small lurch signalled that the dingy had stopped descending, coming to rest at hover barely above the ground. They'd arrived. Luminous Spark looked over the area with a smile on her face. She jumped down to the ground after only a moment's hesitation, her excitement over the prospect of new discovery and entering the next phrase of her research quickly overcame her concerns about being on the surface. The unicorn set about collecting samples, loading a little dirt from seemingly random areas into sealable containers, which she then placed back onto the dingy with the other gear she'd brought before retrieving another with her telekinesis. Periodically she'd find find a particularly intact plant specimen, to which she'd dig carefully the area around it before moving it gently into a pot and moving them to the dingy as well.

Aerus watched her for a moment. He almost shouted a warning, but it died on his beak. He didn't want to dampen her enthusiasm if he could avoid it, and realized that if Spark was this motivated, the whole exercise would likely be over more quickly. Besides, as long as he was paying attention, nothing would happen that he couldn't deal with. He motioned for the gryphon at the dingy's helm to keep the craft steady, before flying to the ground near the unicorn and observing their surroundings with a watchful eye. An uneventful minute passed as she worked and he kept watch...

Aerus' ears twitched. He looked around him, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. He didn't spot anything other than the wasted vegetation that filled the vegetation that filled the place, but nonetheless he couldn't help but feel like they were being watched. He shook his head, assuming it was just his imagination and chalking it up to nerves.

There it was again. He definitely heard something this time, though he had trouble making out the sound itself. He looked over at Luminous Spark, who'd filled about a third of the containers she'd brought already. Aerus then closed his eyes, concentrating on his hearing.

It happened a third time, the noise finally revealing itself to be a faint rumbling, coming from below. And this time, the noise persisted. In fact, if anything it seemed to be getting louder. All of a sudden Aerus recognized the noise, and stared at the ground in dawning horror.

He didn't stay still for long though, knowing that he didn't have that much time to act, and started making a dash for Luminous Spark who'd wandered a little ways away from their starting location in search of samples. He locked eyes with the dingy pilot as he ran, making an exaggerated flapping motion with his wings, that the pilot correctly interpreted as a signal for 'go up'.

“Spark!” He called out, dropping the formality with the urgency. She didn't notice at first, forcing him to call out a second time. The rumbling was clearly audible now, so much so that the unicorn herself probably would have noticed it if she wasn't so engrossed in her work. “Spark!” She looked over to him in confusion as Aerus closed the distance to her, having finally realizing something was wrong but not yet able to figure out what precisely it was. “Wurm!”

It finally clicked for Luminous Spark what was happening. She blinked, and stared at Aerus in surprise for a moment before remembering what to do in such a situation. She grabbed the few tools she'd brought as well as one last container with her mouth, before running right at Aerus in turn, not wanting to risk . The pair met in the middle just as the rumble became nearly deafening from their position on the ground. Aerus pumped his wings once, getting himself aloft just before snatching up Luminous Spark.

A split second later, a large creature burst out of the ground, so close to the pair that it ripped off a little chunk of Luminous Spark's mane. The wurm, a large, armored, bright orange tube that was a three times as thick as a pony was tall, shot skyward for a second before it turned it's head around to bring its small-house-sized maw crashing down onto the pair. Aerus banked sharply, almost causing Luminous Spark to lose her tools and maybe even her lunch, but also causing the wurm to eat a face full of dirt rather than a unicorn and a gryphon. As the wurm reburied itself in preparation for another attack, but Aerus denied it the chance with a rapid ascent, getting out of its jump range.

The dingy few over to meet them, and Aerus set down Luminous Spark who promptly slumped down onto the deck from a combination of fading adrenaline and realizing just how close she came to being wurm food. Aerus himself remained standing, though he too was panting a little from the exertion. “That...was too close...” he said between breaths, as the dingy began making its way back to the Kestrel hovering overhead.

[There may come a day, when I make posts of a reasonable length. BUT TODAY, IS NOT THAT DAY!

So yes, apologies about the wall o' text, but I ran into a scene where only characters I was controlling at the moment were involved. I thought it would be better if I got it done all in one go, and that should get me and the Kestrel back into the main RP faster.]

Quick Draw's face was twisted with horror. He had just seen what happened below on Earth. There was a giant worm, three of the crew almost got killed, and it was fast and deadly.

" So that's what combat's like." Quick Draw squeaked. He felt he had the weapons necasary to fight, but he did not feel he had the speed and skills. He'd been in danger before but it was never constant and luck always seemed to be on his side. What if something happened by the mountain? What if another strange creature attcked and luck wasn't around to save the day. Quick Draw was worried.

He was never one to ask for help, but he felt that if his life was on the line, he better learn some moves. Quick Draw moved from the railing up to the control deck and tried to find the captain. He had only really talked to him when he signed up for this ship, but he felt he needed him right now.
