History:

Going far enough back, Twilight was just like any other unicorn foal. However, that did not last long. As soon as the was old enough to begin to ask to learn she developed a ravenous hunger for knowledge which remains to this day. She spent many long hours pouring over books and studying, more often than not at the expense of her friends and even her family. However, while she was antisocial, she remained very close with her brother Shining Armor and later her Foal-sitter and future sister-in-law Cadence to the point she worked with cadence compiling charts and facts to help the princess and shining armor get together.

From early on, Twilight's family knew she was destined to be a magical protege. They went out of their way to locate books for her on all aspects of magic up to and including magical theory that most unicorns never even touch if they were not scholars. Twilight lapped it all up, always wanting more. While most foals asked for toys for gifts, twilight always had a book she wanted though almost exclusively books on magic, science, etc, though when she got a little older she did fall in love with the Daring Do series.

When Twilight neared the age to begin schooling, her parents worked hard and pulled all the strings they could to get their daughter into Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, though on the day of her entrance exam, it looked like there had been a mistake. As twilight worked and pushed herself as hard as she could to hatch the egg and pass the test, she finally gave up and was in the middle of telling the examiners she couldn't do it when a massive explosion outside startled her and the adrenalin rushed straight to her horn, causing a surge of magic unlike any the examiners or the princess herself had seen in a long time, possibly ever! Had Celestia not stepped in and calmed the young unicorn, there was no telling what might have happened...

Twilight's life changed when she started school, especially as celestia's prize pupil... at least academically... The unicorn was still extremely introverted and it took her time to completely open up to Celestia, a pony who was one of twilight's idols (which included academics such as Starswirl the Bearded) The filly spent more time on her study and magic than before and continued to grow, only attending social functions when her parents or brother drug her out of the house (discounting the occasional tabletop RPG game with her brother and his friends, but they often did not invite her because she spent most of the game over-analyzing the rules and really killed the mood)

It was 1000 years after the banishment of nightmare moon when Twilight's life took a major turn, or some would say, when it truly began. That night she met five ponies who became her closest and dearest friends, all six of them risking their lives to save not only Equestria, but one another - Teaching her the true meaning of friendship.

Twilight and her friends went through many adventures ranging from minor mishaps such as a botched sleepover or judging an 'iron pony' contest between the two strongest (and stubbornest) ponies in the town, to facing down the literal incarnation of chaos and defeating an ancient evil dictator seeking to take over a magical crystal city and, in turn, Equestria as a whole.

None of it prepared her though for what would happen almost exactly on the anniversary of her arrival. The problem she faced was not of some unsealed ancient evil, it was not a conspiracy, it wasn't even trying to comfort her friends. Instead if was a much more personal problem and one of her own creation. Celestia had sent Twilight a spellbook, one that twilight would have previously given her eye-teeth to obtain - the grimoir of Starswirl the Bearded. However, The Princess did not want Twlight to study it and master it's spells (even though she later did --- at least the study part, the mastery... well...) Instead, Celestia wanted Twilight to try to make sense of Starswirl's final unfinished spell, one of great power that could effect destiny itself. Unfortunately, Twilight ended up changing the destinies of all her friends, almost losing some of them forever (quite literally in the case of Rainbow since she almost got eaten). It was the most difficult task Twilight had ever endured, but she found the strength to soldier on and eventually was able to save her friends and complete the spell. This was not some simple task though, Starswirl himself, one of the greatest mages in equestrian history had failed to finish the spell. Twilight's ability to not only master it but rewrite and complete it earned her assertion to Alicorn Princess, changing her life forever! ...Though, as usual for her, in mostly subtle ways... she now had to attend more official events, and there was the chore of learning to fly (and the increased difficulty of having her friend Rainbow Dash being her flight instructor...) but she managed to hold her life together, return to Ponyville with her friends, and settle back down to less extreme adventures... well... for now at least...

Character Summary/Personality:

Twilight's personality can be summed up precisely by a single word "Nerd". While other fillies had posters of musicians, Movie stars, or their favorite racing team pinned to their walls, Twilight's contained mostly charts, graphs, and notes of her own design for whatever project she was working on with only room for a few posters dedicated to great magical scholars such as Starswirl the Bearded or Princess Celestia --- though now there are also pictures of her with her friends. She never does anything she can avoid without at least one list, often several, and one of her favorite activities is organizing the library she lives in or really any library... The perfect home, for twilight, is one with everything in precise order, but, unfortunately with her frequent panics over forgetting things (be they major events or where she put her writing quills) this is never the case. The only things more important to her than organization or learning are her friends and family (and now to some extent, her kingdom, though she prefers not to think too much about the fact she's now a princess) and while she would go to great lengths and make many sacrifices for knowledge, there is a limit. There is no limit, however, to what she would sacrifice for her friends - a far cry from how she grew up. But, she wouldn't have it any other way.
