History: Tex was born of a rural, loving family in the Nimbusgait Lakes region of Equestria. Though Tex lived a very nice, relatively ordinary childhood, there was many different talents that developed in the young colt. First, he could sing quite well. One of his favorite activities in his youth was the evening family 'sing-a-longs' he'd have with his parents, grandparents (who lived nearby) and his three sisters named Doh, Rae and Mee. They not only produced much family harmony together, they instilled in him a desire to play music as well as sing vocals. His parents enjoyed their family sing-a-longs so much, they decided that during the farming off-seasons, they'd travel and sing together as the Critter Family Singers. This helped them also earn enough bits to live on between harvests. One night, when Grandpa Rex Critter took ill, young Tex filled in on the guitar. His parents had some reservations about this, but decided that the show must go on. When the curtain went up and the Critter Family Singers took the stage, young Tex played his heart out. He even did the guitar solo at the end of the performance that his grandpa was very famous for. He played brilliantly and flawlessly in the center stage spotlight and when the song had ended and he took a bow on stage, the applause he received was quite overwhelming, so overwhelming that Tex didn't even notice the glow coming from his flanks and his guitar cutie mark appearing until after his excited parents pointed it out to him. He had found his calling! Tex Critter would become an entertainer!

His second great passion in life was reading. As a foal, he quickly fell in love with the Pioneer Pony Times novels of Louise LaMare, often daydreaming that he was a character in one of her books. Although he read other famous works of literature, the Louise LaMare novels were by far his favorite.

His third great love in his youth was animals. Tex would always be the first to volunteer to do chores involving the barnyard animals, even when his sisters would tease him about it. Over time, Tex discovered that he could understand and talk to animals on a different level than the average pony. Not just with the family livestock, but other woodland creatures seem to gravitate towards him, were naturally comfortable around him. This natural ability came in useful from time to time in his life, such as the time an angry bear attacked a neighbor's barn. Trotting up to the bear, Tex soon understood what the bear was upset about. Her cubs were missing and had strayed onto the farm. Finding them quickly and leading them back to their mother, the angry bear became happy once more and left peacefully. This event made Tex a hero for a time in the area, though the young stallion never let 'fame' go to his head.

As he grew into stallionhood, Tex felt he needed to strike out on his own and seek his fortune in the Equestrian frontier. Leaving the farm and his loving family, Tex began to travel from place to place, singing and doing odd jobs to earn enough bits to live on. His big break came in Dodge Junction, when he sang at a salt saloon there and drew large crowds of ponies nightly. It was the start of his career as Tex Critter, the Singing Cowpony. Soon, offers poured in and Tex was living his dream of being an entertainer in Equestria. He built his home on a ranch outside of Dodge Junction, but he still travels a lot throughout the kingdom, even as far north as the Crystal Empire. He even manages to incorporate his animal friends into his act from time to time.

Character Summary/Personality:

Though the fame of Tex Critter has grown, he remains a very 'down to earth' pony who enjoys simple pleasure and pursuits. He'd rather camp out in the woods than stay in the fanciest hotel in the kingdom. He's also very approachable, happily signing autographs and making public appearance for worthy causes. He has a very kind and gentle heart, especially when it comes to animals. He has a rather easy going attitude towards life, it takes a lot to 'rattle' him. All in all, Tex Critter is a very nice pony, a true blue friend who loves the great outdoors and has a real zest for life!
