Sweetie Belle [Ready]

Recommended Posts

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Sweetie Belle

Sex: Female

Age: Filly

Species: Unicorn

Eye colour: Thistle, or sort of a gray green.

Coat: Just barely off white (kind of purple off white, she likes to think).

Mane/Tail: Bubblegum and lavender, both mid-length and perfectly curl-- coiffed just like Rarity taught her.

Physique: No shorter or taller than the other fillies her age. Really sort of average, but that’s okay because Rarity always says it’s not what you’re given that matters, but what you make of it!

Residence: In Ponyville with her parents, but sometimes she stays at Carousel Boutique with her sister.

Occupation: Student and founding member of the Cutie Mark Crusaders!

Cutie Mark: Well, she doesn’t have that yet, but she really kind of hopes it’ll have something to do with fashion or art, like her big sister’s cutie mark!

History:

Sweetie Belle grew up in a well to do family, the younger of two fillies. She was raised in a highly supportive environment, and, while she sometimes fought with Rarity (as sisters sometimes do), she always looked up to her older sister and wanted to be just like her. Because of this she’s always had a fondness for arts and crafts. Despite not having her cutie mark in it yet, she’s always hoping that some new art form she tries will be her special talent.

When she started school she learned the true joy of books and learning and reading in general. She had a tendency to absorb the most random facts about the things she learned, and her vocabulary grew by leaps and bounds. The joy of learning wasn’t the only neat thing about school, though. She made friends! Granted, this was probably because they wanted help studying, and she had a natural knack for knowledge. Her desire to learn and help her friends learn was only fueled by her parents’ insistence that as long as she did her best, they would always be proud of her.

Of course, she still tried to take after Rarity. This didn’t stop when Rarity moved out and started her business, which wasn’t long after Sweetie Belle started school. In fact, Sweetie may have made Rarity even more her role model after that point. She would often spend weekends with her sister, trying to help her with her work and barraging her with questions.

When it seemed everypony in her class began getting their cutie marks, Sweetie Belle thought she would be the last one left without her cutie mark. Her play dates and adventures in town with her classmates slowly tapered off when Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon earned their cutie marks and began to bully her for not having hers yet. Sweetie Belle was surprised when she received an invitation to Diamond Tiara’s cuteceneara. Because of the bullying, she was reluctant to attend.

Eventually, her desire to see her friends from class got the better of her. It was a good thing she went, or she might not have met Apple Bloom and Scootaloo! The three blank flanks joined forces and stood up to Diamond and Silver’s bullying, eventually becoming best friends and creating the Cutie Mark Crusaders! Initially it was just a way for them to help each other find their cutie marks, but they soon became the best of friends. Sweetie Belle hopes that after they have their cutie marks, they’ll be able to help other fillies and colts find their special talents, too.

Later, sometime not long before Twilight became a princess, Sweetie Belle decided to ask the older unicorn for magic lessons, knowing from Rarity’s story that Twilight was an exceedingly talented mage. Not wanting to leave her friends out, though, when she visited Twilight she asked if there was anything she could maybe teach Apple Bloom and Scootaloo, too. It took Twilight and Sweetie Belle some time to think, but Twilight remembered Apple Bloom’s fondness for helping Zecora with her potions, and Sweetie Belle remembered Scootaloo enjoys making things.

With that, Twilight Time was instituted. Once a week, the Cutie Mark Crusaders would meet with Twilight and practice new skills. They almost blew it once after Twilight earned her wings. They tried to flaunt that they were Princess Twilight’s personal students, but it didn’t take long for them to realize that, while that was great, it wasn’t something to flash about just to become more popular. No, it was treasured time for them, and they went back to treasuring it just for themselves.

Of course, learning new skills with Twilight didn’t slow down their other efforts to earn their cutie marks. Sweetie Belle figures they won’t lose momentum until they’ve all found their special talents.

Character Summary:

Sweetie Belle is… excitable. When she starts something, she gets sucked into it and sees it through to the end, no matter what extremes she has to go to. She is a voracious learner, with an insatiable appetite for knowledge. Despite this, she sometimes finds it difficult to remember anything but the most random and trivial facts about subjects, except when it comes to words. She’s a walking dictionary when it comes to words. To top it off, she really enjoys participating in school plays and sometimes even singing in them! Really she just enjoys school overall.

Despite enjoying school so much, and having so much fun with her friends, sometimes she gets a little bit self-conscious. Her sister is just so good at what she does, but Sweetie Belle hasn’t found anything she feels like she’s really good at yet, and it infuriates her. Sometimes she resents Rarity, but at the same time, she really wants to be like her. She wants to be graceful and elegant and talented and always know the right thing to say. And, of course, in the end, she’s always incredibly proud of Rarity and the things she has accomplished, from slowly gaining renown as a designer to helping save Equestria multiple times. She couldn’t have asked for a better big sister.

As for her friends, sometimes she feels like she’s the big sister. She frequently feels like she’s the most grounded of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and is often pointing out the flaws and safety risks in the crazy plans that Scootaloo and Apple Bloom come up with. Sometimes this results in fights, like when they accidentally let Discord out of his statue (she’s really sorry about that still). More often than not, though, she finds herself the voice of reason, talking her friends into taking safety precautions for, or sometimes entirely calling off, the more dangerous attempts to find their talents.

Last, but not least, there’s the bullies: Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Sweetie Belle does her best not to let them get to her, although their constant heckling is still annoying. That doesn’t stop her from shouting at them when they pick on her friends. Deep down, she really just wants everyone to get along, and she’s sure that someday Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon will come to their senses and stop picking on her and her friends.

Ultimately, Sweetie Belle is a little fluffy ball of complexity: smart, kind, and down to earth, though airheaded sometimes, and just a little vindictive. She tends to feel things very strongly. When something great happens to her, it’s amazing, but when something bad happens, it’s horrible. She greatly appreciates all who have taught her new things, from her sister, to her friends, to Princess Luna herself, and is ready to use everything she’s learned to earn her cutie mark… and help her friends earn theirs, too. That, perhaps, brings her the greatest joy: helping her friends by being the voice of reason and song of encouragement to their hearts.
