NFL 'Modified' Elimination Pool Game Section Challenge

The NFL Regular Season begins September 4th, so now I present to you the NFL 'Modified' Elimination Pool Game Section Challenge.

Here's how it works:

Each week, participants select ONE and only one NFL team they believe will win their game.

If that team wins, that participant scores one point for the week.

If that team loses or ties, that participant gets no points.

The only other rule in the pool is this: Once you pick a team to win for a week, you cannot pick that same team to win for the rest of the season. In other words, if I pick the Steelers to win in Week 1, I cannot pick them to win again. Thus, this will limit a participant's selections more and more as the season goes on. So, choose carefully!

In a 'true' elimination pool, once a participant's team loses, then they're OUT of the game. However, since the idea here is to play for the season, I've modified the 'win or go home' rule.

Anyone is more than welcome to play and I will be keeping 'score' all season!

So, let the game.. BEGIN!!!

Week 1 (all times Eastern US time)

Thursday, Sept. 4

Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks, 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 7

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons, 1 p.m.

Minnesota Vikings at St. Louis Rams, 1 p.m.

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m.

Oakland Raiders at New York Jets, 1 p.m.

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m.

Buffalo Bills at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m.

Washington Redskins at Houston Texans, 1 p.m.

Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs, 1 p.m.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m.

Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 4:25 p.m.

San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.

Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos, 8:30 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 8

New York Giants at Detroit Lions, 7:10 p.m.

San Diego Chargers at Arizona Cardinals, 10:20 p.m.

Excellent choices!

For everyone else, keep in mind the deadline for entering your Week 1 picks is Thursday, Sept. 4th at 8:29 EDT.

That will be the 'rule of thumb' that we'll be using for the season, the deadline for picks for the week will be before the kickoff time of that week's Thursday Night game. Keep this in mind as the NFL season progresses.

Week 1: Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles are solid. Jaguars continue to have issues. Their current quarterback battle is a lose-lose situation. They have inexperienced talent catching the ball so they will be tested and crushed. Even on defense, two of the Jags' cornerbacks are rookies, one of them went undrafted. This Jacksonville team is very young and inexperienced, I expect the Eagles to give them their first taste of the NFL. It will be painful but necessary. It's going to be tempting to pick the teams playing the Jaguars all season.

Bullet point predictions:

-Panthers will finish 3rd or 4th in their division

-Manziel will replace Hoyer as quarterback for the Browns before week 8

-Cowboys will make the playoffs

-All NFC North teams will be in the running for the division until the last week

-49ers will have a losing season

-Seahawks will be the first team to clinch their division title

-A quarterback in the NFC north will sustain a long term injury

-The Saints will be the last team to receive their first loss of the season

-At least half of the Raiders' wins will be with Matt Schaub at quarterback

-The November 2nd game Broncos @ Patriots will be the most watched NFL game during the regular season

-Alex Smith of the Chiefs will suffer the most sacks of the season (Last year was Tannenhill)

Seasonal award predictions:

AP Most Valuable Player: Drew Brees (Saints)

AP Coach of the Year: Bill Belichick (Patriots)

AP Offensive Player of the Year: Drew Brees (Saints)

AP Defensive Player of the Year: Von Miller (Broncos)

Now its time to wait and watch all of my predictions implode.

River, I find your glorification of the most abhorrent, most vile, most abominable NFL team in history (The Saints) highly disturbing....
