After week 17, I'm going to role play a fake playoff I'm calling, "The Reverse Playoffs." The rules are simple. It'll be just like the standard NFL playoff, except instead of the best winning teams seeded, I seed the best losing teams, and the loser of each game goes onto the next round. The "Loser Bowl" will be a match-up between the AFC and NFC teams that lose in their respective brackets. Teams are seeded by 4th place division finishes, and the two wildcards to the two worst non-divisional losers in each conference. Home field goes to the team with the LOWER seed, as to give them a better chance at not losing.

This is going to be fun. I'll post the fake sports reports in this thread, if you don't mind. They wont be too lengthy.

So far,

Jets have clinched 4th place in the AFC East

Browns have clinched 4th place in the AFC North

Raiders have clinched 4th place in the AFC West

Redskins have clinched 4th place in the NFC East

Bears have clinched 4th place in the NFC North

Buccaneers have clinched 4th place in the NFC South and the first seed overall in the NFC (Which means they play on the road during the entire playoff).

Titans and Jaguars have both clinched playoff spots, but one will be wildcard while the other will be AFC South 4th place based on the results of week 17.

The NFL Modified Elimination Pool Game PLAYOFF Challenge!

In each round of the NFL playoffs, all teams playing games that week will be part of a selection pool.

The HIGHEST ranked player will select their winning team for that week first, then the next highest ranked player, and so on until all players have a unique team picked. For the purposes of the NFL playoffs, players will NOT be allowed to select the SAME team as anyone else. This is why our 'regular season' mattered. It set up the picking order for the playoffs.

After that week's playoff games are done, those who picked winning teams will get to pick teams the following week. All those who pick losing teams will, as in the real NFL playoffs, be eliminated from further playoff action. The game will continue either until there remains one single winning player or the end of the Super Bowl, depending on who 'survives' each playoff round. It is also possible with this system that, under a certain set of circumstances, that no players will remain.

Each week of the Playoffs is basically a 'new game' with the changing 'Selection Pool' so players are free to choose different teams for each proceeding round.

The Playoff Selections will be 'open' after the Pitts-Cinc game ends and the playoff matchups are settled.

Good Luck to all!

Gerrard will be first 'on the clock' when the Selection process begins. I will make a post to signal the beginning of the selection process later today. When your turn comes, please select quickly so as to give those behind you in the selection order a fair chance to pick before the playoffs begin on Saturday. I don't want to enforce time limits but I will have to IF players 'drag their feet' too long in picking.

The seeds for the fictional Loser playoffs are set. They are:

AFC

1. Tennessee Titans

2. Oakland Raiders

3. New York Jets

4. Cleveland Browns

5. Jacksonville Jaguars

6. Miami Dolphins

NFC

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2. Washington Redskins

3. Chicago Bears

4. St. Louis Rams

5. New York Giants

6. Atlanta Falcons

Let's go ahead and get to the first matchups, shall we?

After playing each other in week 17, these division rivals will have to face each other two weeks in a row. Let's see how it turned out.

New York Jets 16

Miami Dolphins 10

Final (OT)

SCORING SUMMARY

2nd Quarter

NYJ 0:15 TD Percy Harvin 2 yd. run (Folk kick) 7-0

3rd Quarter

MIA 7:35 FG Caleb Sturgis 28 yds. 7-3

4th Quarter

MIA 0:48 TD Jarvis Landry 7 yd. pass from Tannehill (Sturgis kick) 7-10

NYJ 0:00 FG Nick Folk 33 yds. 10-10

OT 1

NYJ 8:45 TD Bilal Powell 8 yd. run 16-10

The Jets are eliminated from the playoffs. What an upset. To think, the Dolphins had winning playoff hopes only a few weeks ago, and here they are getting knocked into the second round of the losing playoffs. In post game, Tannehill was asked about his feelings on his overtime interception that led to the Jets' winning drive. "Some things stick with you for a while, but that was just one of those moments. I'll be back next week, and the week after that, and the weeks to come." Not sure what was meant by that, but it's safe too say the football fans in Miami can look forward to their quarterback for the next long while.

The Bears lit up the Falcons in what most would say was their last convincing win of the 2014 season. It feels so long ago. Let's see if the Bears can return to victory and get out of this embarrasment.

Chicago Bears 20

Atlanta Falcons 26

Final

SCORING SUMMARY

1st Quarter

ATL 10:08 FG Matt Bryant 45 yds. 0-3

CHI 2:35 TD Ka'Deem Carey 1 yd. run (Feely kick) 7-3

2nd Quarter

CHI 1:25 FG Jay Feely 52 yds. 10-3

ATL 0:21 TD Devonta Freeman 1 yd. run (Bryant kick) 10-10

3rd Quarter

ATL 13:06 TD Harry Douglas 52 yd. pass from Ryan (Bryant kick) 10-17

ATL 7:01 FG Matt Bryant 29 yds. 10-20

CHI 2:28 FG Jay Feely 24 yds. 13-20

4th Quarter

ATL 12:34 FG Matt Bryant 20 yds. 13-23

CHI 7:26 TD Matt Forte 7 yd. pass from Clausen (Feely kick) 20-23

ATL 1:56 FG Matt Bryant 45 yds. 20-26

The Falcons are eliminated from the playoffs. It's clear that Claussen at quarterback has not been a good answer for the team. Though the Bears have several issues, Coach Tressman has already stated that he intends to start Jay Cutler next week. Jay Cutler, when asked about this development responded with an excited 'meh'.

Light rain is falling in Jacksonville as the Browns and Jags get set to play. Manziel is kept on the bench in favor of Connor Shaw. Johnny Clipboard!!!

Cleveland Browns 34

Jacksonville Jaguars 10

Final

SCORING SUMMARY

1st Quarter

JAC 7:52 TD Jordan Todman 1 yd. run (Scobee kick) 0-7

2nd Quarter

CLE 13:18 TD Terrance West 26 yd. run (Cundiff kick) 7-7

CLE 2:18 TD Isaiah Crowell 9 yd. run (Cundiff kick) 14-7

CLE 0:25 FG Billy Cundiff 43 yds. 17-7

3rd Quarter

CLE 6:10 FG Billy Cundiff 26 yds. 20-7

CLE 2:05 TD Terrance West 8 yd. run (Cundiff kick) 27-7

4th Quarter

JAC 12:44 FG Josh Scobee 40 yds. 27-10

CLE 8:07 TD Isaiah Crowell 3 yd. run (Cundiff kick) 34-10

The Browns are eliminated from the playoffs. It took a while to warm up, but Shaw indeed looked more comfortable for the second straight week than Manziel has looked all season. Things are looking up for the Browns. But let's face it, they will continue to have quarterbacking issues because they are the Browns. Jaguars face the Raiders next week, while the Dolphins match up against conference worst Tennessee Titans.

Conditions are cold and windy here in New Jersey. Giants look to take home field and clear their conscience of being here in the first place, while the Rams try to prove just how good of a bad team they really are.

St. Louis Rams 10

New York Giants 17

Final

SCORING SUMMARY

1st Quarter

NYG 6:53 FG Josh Brown 39 yds. 0-3

ST. 3:04 TD Tre Mason 5 yd. run (Zuerlein kick) 7-3

4th Quarter

NYG 14:10 TD Rashad Jennings 67 yd. pass from Manning (Brown kick) 7-10

The Giants are eliminated from the playoffs. Man, this one couldn't have ended any sooner than it did. We all hoped that Odell Beckham Jr. would make it exciting, but all he could muster was 5 receptions for 44 yards. Rashad Jennings 4th quarter TD reception for 67 yards was the most exciting thing that happened, and it was enjoyed by all six people that were still watching. Eli Manning had eager things to say in the press conference, but no one cared to listen. The Bears face the Redskins next week while the Rams host the Buccaneers.

Tune in for more next week!!

Time to evaluate my predictions from the start of the season:

green marks success

red marks failure

purple marks special notes

Standings prediction:

AFC East

Patriots 12-4(seed 2)

Jets 10-6 (seed 6)

Dolphins6-10 correct place, wrong record

Bills 5-11

AFC North

Steelers10-6 (seed 4) off by one win, seed 3

Ravens 9-7

Browns 8-8 off by one win

Bengals 6-10

AFC South

Colts 11-5(seed 3) much like the pats, so close

Texans 9-7

Titans 7-9

Jaguars 4-12 off by one win

AFC West

Broncos14-2 (seed 1)

Chargers 11-5 (seed 5)

Raiders 5-11

Chiefs 4-12

NFC East

Cowboys9-7(seed 4) considering no one thought the 'boys would win 12 games, i still feel proud of this one

Eagles8-8 When I made my predictions, I actually considered the Eagles the better team, but they got edged out by the Cowboys by circumstances. The Eagles were so close and yet got closed out by the Cowboys. So that, imo, was a valid prediction. I always figure the NFC East has division drama.

Redskins 7-9

Giants 3-13

NFC North

Bears 9-7 (seed 3) LOL

Packers 9-7 (seed 6)

Vikings 7-9

Lions 7-9

NFC South

Saints 12-4 (seed 1) What more is there to say about this one

Falcons 10-6 (seed 5)

Buccaneers 7-9

Panthers 6-10 by And I was off by one win and one tie.

NFC West

Seahawks11-5 (seed 2)

Cardinals8-8

Rams 7-9 If the Rams beat the Seahawks in week 17, and if the Cardinals beat the 49ers, too, This would have worked perfectly.

49ers 5-11

With this result, I predict the playoffs:

Jets beat the Colts

Steelers beat the Chargers

Bears beat the Packers

Falcons beat the Cowboys

Broncos beat the Jets

Steelers beat the Patriots

Saints beat the Falcons

Seahawks beat the Bears

Broncos beat the Steelers

Saints beat the Seahawks

Broncos beat the Saints

Bullet point predictions:

-Panthers will finish 3rd or 4th in their division

-Manziel will replace Hoyer as quarterback for the Browns before week 8 I think it was like week 14? much later than most people figured.

-Cowboys will make the playoffs

-All NFC North teams will be in the running for the division until the last week

-49ers will have a losing season So close, they finished 8-8.

-Seahawks will be the first team to clinch their division title Colts were first. Despite the Seahawks being a fairly dominant team, they were actually one of the last teams to wrap up it's division. Next to the Packers, and hours before the Steelers.

-A quarterback in the NFC north will sustain a long term injury Matt Cassel for the Vikings. It happens every year in this division.

-The Saints will be the last team to receive their first loss of the season They lost week 1. Cardinals were the last team to get their first loss.

-At least half of the Raiders' wins will be with Matt Schaub at quarterback

-The November 2nd game Broncos @ Patriots will be the most watched NFL game during the regular season *I looked everywhere and couldn't find any real evidence if I was right or wrong. If I had to guess, I would say I'm wrong because the Packers/Patriots game this year was really hyped, and it was a good game that delivered consistent drama throughout. Generally though, two eastern good market teams having successful seasons will always win the award for most watched NFL game. typically, the ratings are best gained through late afternoon Sunday games. Fun Fact: The Walking Dead beat Sunday Night football a few times in ratings, which is sort of unheard of.

-Alex Smith of the Chiefs will suffer the most sacks of the season (Last year was Tannenhill) Blake Bortels took the most sacks. Alex Smith is tied for fouth most with Matthew Stafford.

Seasonal award predictions: these aren't decided yet, but i can rule out most of them

AP Most Valuable Player: Drew Brees (Saints)

AP Coach of the Year: Bill Belichick (Patriots)

AP Offensive Player of the Year: Drew Brees (Saints)

AP Defensive Player of the Year: Von Miller (Broncos)

AP Offensive Rookie of the Year: Teddy Bridgewater (Vikings)

AP Defensive Rookie of the Year: Ryan Shazier (Steelers)

AP Comeback Player of the Year: Tony Romo (Cowboys) I think it should happen. Romo is actually a candidate for league MVP as well. Not sure who else would get this award. Possibly James Harrison, but probably not. Some sources say Gronkowski. I will puke if he gets it.

Prediction Grade: C-

I would give myself a D or D+ based on successes, but I also see that a lot of the predictions I missed were pretty close.
