Mojo
On October 13th, the American cable channel that hosts the MLP FiM show will be renamed "Discovery Family." Part of this changeover deal involves Hasbro giving up majority ownership of the network (Hasbro will soon own only 40% controlling interest, Discovery will hold the rest). Although according to the 'official' news release, Hasbro will still provide programming for the morning/early afternoon timeslots, the rest of the programming will come from documentaries/educational files from the Discovery Channel library. Initially, this means no changes for MLP FiM other than some minor scheduling changes for the reruns and apparently, there's been no mention of any plans to halt Season 5. HOWEVER, long term, this means it'll be the leadership of the Discovery Channel, not Hasbro, that will decide whether MLP FiM will continue in the future. In other words, if Discovery decides to expand it's own programming block any further at some future date, some or all of the Hasbro supplied cartoons (including MLP FiM) could be suddenly dropped/canceled. Could this mean the end of our beloved show is coming soon? Will this development endanger the entire MLP FiM franchise? Do we all panic or relax about all this? DreamySunday
If they decide to no longer have MLP on their channel Hasbro will very likally just move it to another channel
RarityDash
Yeah. I don't think Hasbro is on the wrong end of this. If anything it opens up the possibility of them putting hot properties like MLP on other, more popular networks in addition to the one that they part own. I can't imagine ponies or Hasbro in general are in any real danger from this. If anyone, it's Discovery who was probably feeling threatened if they felt the need to take a controlling interest and push their brand more on the network. YourLittleBrony
I wouldnt worry about it. I dont see such a popular show just dropped so suddenly. I bet CN or Nick would pick it up if it came to that. Probably means when season 5 starts back up, I'll probably have to watch it at a different or earlier time. No big deal. SteelEagle
There is no reason to be worried for the future of pony.
GhostGirl
We know Hasbro intends to continue creating MLP, and it's a very lucrative IP at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if Cartoon Network would want to pick it up, if it even IS eventually dropped, because TOY SALES. There's really nothing to worry about. Hasbro is making too much money off of MLP for us to just suddenly lose it. They'll try to keep it out there somehow no matter what, and I really don't think this Discovery Family channel will wanna drop what kind of made The Hub a successful channel in the first place. tacobob
Considering how Disney and Hasbro has become rather close during the last few years, I could see FIM moving to Disney or Disney XD...

Mojo
One of the big fears is, if Discovery feels that the 'Discovery Family' channel is failing, they'll either shut it down or sell it off to some other network group that will eliminate all Hasbro cartoons from the lineup. This has happened before in the world of 'cable' networks.
DreamySunday
Sure but that wouldn't be MLP's fault. So Hasbro would probably just get another slot on another Channel or Shove online Like what Nick did to Korra.
Mojo
So far, there are positives and negatives about the Discovery Family takeover concerning the airing of MLP.Pluses: No more idiotic 'end bumpers' that crowd out the end credits of each episode! YAY!!!Minuses: No more creative promotional 30 second commercials for the show airing on the network. Let's wait and see how DFam handles the new MLP movie & later on, the new season.
