Comic books are a world unto their own.

A world entirely unique, detached, and spirited from the rest of Equestria, where a pony is free to imagine whatever they wish. From fully colored and beautifully detailed stores of superponies running to the rescue and saving the day, to muted black and white drawings that speak of deeper meanings, nopony is left out from the vivid imaginings that can take one to places that don't exist and never will, all in the comfort of one's home.

One Pegasus in particular understands the power in comic books, and has taken it on himself to invite ponies from all walks of life to a private get-together. Flaxen Feather is hosting a comic book club, and for one reason or another, ponies are showing up to partake in the delights of a shared story together. A quiet evening of beautiful pictures, suspenseful plots, and enchanted laughter awaits any pony looking to relax and have a good time.

What more could one possibly ask for?

⑄ Welcome to The Eidolon Covenant, an action-orientated RP based on classic Point and Click games. Feather Flaxen is hosting a comic book club for any interested pony, but what exactly will it entail? Looks like you'll have to attend to find out!

⑄ This RP will be focused on the skills of not only the characters, but the players behind the characters themselves. RPers will have to solve puzzles, put together clues, and come up with solutions to advance through the plot line of this RP.

⑄ Puzzles, scenarios, and scenes will be laid out by a game master (myself), in the style of classic point and click games, while also allowing freedom for actual RP elements. Basically, the characters will advance through a pre-defined plotline, but will only be able to do so by performing the correct actions and moving in the right direction. This still leaves room for general character development, relationships, bonding, freedom, etc.

⑄ Is your character a skilled botanist? Think they can use several different plants to create a safe pathway to walk over? How about directions? Think your character is smart enough to safely navigate the group through a magical forest that keeps looping around back to the beginning? The puzzles and scenarios in this RP will hopefully give RPers a chance to use their brains and wits to advance through the plot, rather than simply laying out the plot and saying this or that happens.

⑄ This means that this RP is not focused on creating long and thought out posts, but rather trying new actions and different combinations of actions to get the desired result. Posts will still need to be a modest length (no one-liners or very short paragraphs), but if a character gets stuck at a point where all they can really do is try out different actions, players should not be killing themselves to make a long and detailed post. Rather, they should focus on solving the puzzle with their character.

⑄ An example: Billy Bob finds himself in a room that is filled with several toy balls. Billy Bob's RPer makes a short post, saying that Billy Bob moves closer to inspect the toy balls. A Game Master post then comes along to explain how Billy Bob can see small writing on each of the toy balls, laying out a riddle. Billy Bob thinks the answer to the riddle is to arrange the balls by color, which he does. However, the next Game Master post says nothing has happened. So Billy Bob makes another post, arranging the balls by size. This time, the following Game Master post has Billy Bob discovering a secret passageway that leads him out of the room.

⑄ Make sense? Though some scenarios will be larger and not as detailed, this RP will have several of these sorts of puzzles for the players to solve. Characters will need to inspect and observe and take initiative in order to advance the plot, not simply sit in the background and wait for something to happen.

⑄ At the moment, there is no set date for the start of this RP. More than likely, it won't start until the new year, after finals and the holidays have settled down. However, I decided to open up this OOC thread so I can both start garnering interest and get a catalogue of people who seem interested in this RP idea.

⑄ As for the actual rules of the thread, standard Canterlot rules. However, I can't stress commitment enough. This will be a closed RP, anywhere from four to six characters total, and I want it to last. We all understand work and school schedules, and general life issues that can prevent people from posting, but long delays in posts will result in your removal from the thread. That said, keeping in contact to let others know you're still around and have just been busy will be more understandable, but again, you will be removed if you cannot continue posting in a timely manner. Too much work is going into this RP to let it go to waste because someone loses interest.

⑄ I'm a nice person. Honest! I may sound severe right now, but I won't bite if you have questions. Post them here in the OOC or PM them to me.

⑄ Still interested? Then post an application in this thread!

⑄ Why an application? As I stated before, this RP will be a closed RP - a minimum of four characters to a maximum of six. This is necessary, simply because of the scope of the RP and the work it will require of the game master.

⑄ However, applications are not first come first serve. It's never very fun if a RP is filled with characters who are very similar to one another. I want diversity! The application process is simply designed to ensure a diverse range of characters, personalities, and abilities is participating in the RP. It wouldn't do to have one fighter and five pacifists in an action-based RP, after all.

⑄ Depending on the number of people interested, you may not be accepted. But there still might be opportunities for your character(s) to pop in at some point during the RP. There is also the chance that, if one of the accepted characters becomes inactive or has to drop out, that I'll pull another applicant to fill in that role.

⑄ So get to filling out applications! Simply post the application here in this thread for me to look over, and feel free to discuss or ask questions in this thread too.

⑄ The Application:

Character Name:
Simple enough

Species:
Simple Enough

Personality:
Give me a handful of words or a few short sentences. I'll be looking at your characte's profile, so I don't need a whole lot here, just a summary so I can get a brief look at your character's personality.

Skills:
Any combat or non-combat based skills your character has. Are they a master swordspony? A learned researcher? Maybe they speak seven languages and have the balance of a circus acrobat. If your character doesn't have any notable skills, that's perfectly fine, they're not a requirement.

Link to Profile:
Link me your character's profile, so I don't have to go searching for it. WoE or CC characters are able to apply, but no FFA characters, sorry!

⑄ And there you have it. Thread is opening to posting if you have any questions. Again, I don't bite, so don't be shy. If I didn't explain something very well or you want clarification on something, just ask!

This sounds like a lot of fun. If you'd have her, this is the character I'd use.

Character Name: Tourmaline Glass

Species: Crystal Pony

Personality: An utterly precocious, and really quite morbid young filly. Thinks very highly of her own intelligence and very little of others. Prone to snide comments and rolling of eyes. Voraciously reads pretty much everything, her favorite things being long, obtuse fantasy novels and dusty occult texts.

Skills: She has read extensively, and is more intelligent than her years would suggest, even if a lot of her knowledge is entirely useless. She is too absurdly caught up in herself to easily get scared or frazzled, even when she should be.

This happens... as I am 70hrs in a point and click RPG...

Character Name: Voronoi Fractal (Java)

Species: Earth Pony

Personality: A very happy go lucky, and eccentric young Stallion with a severe lack of common sense and sometimes survival instincts. He has tendencies to of random outbursts, digressions, and even mumbling his own thoughts to himself. He is quite the nerd, and will often times frequent nearby game and comic book shops for additions to his collection. Particularly, Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Skills: As an engineer, his problem solving and MacGyvering skills tend to be at their prime... easily seen when not lamp shaded by bizarre solutions or his sarcastic responses. His intelligence lies heavily in math intensive, and engineering practices (Construction, improvements, development, demolition, ect), however many things are well beyond his grasp. He has some skills in boxing.

Character sheet Link: http://www.canterlot...-javasun-final/

I do have a question though. Seeing as this is sort of like a point and click. Will the RP have moments of sarcasm, or just in general whacky scenes? Much like Fallout 1 & 2, Wasteland. Or will it remain serious, like Baulder's Gate and Torment, and a few Lovecraftian inspired games?

Example. "You enter an open room. There's a couple of desks with paper sprawled about them. Also, there are two robots in the back-corner interrogating a Water Cooler. It isn't talking."

Alrighty, I'll be RPing Flax of course but I'd also like to bring in August. It's your choice rather or not Flax joins this particular group though one it starts. But I'll go ahead and list his skills just in case. If he gets in the way of letting someone else join, I'll go ahead and have him stay behind.

Character name: Flaxen Feather

Species: Pegasus

Personality: Flax is a bit on the naive side and can seem like quite the airhead pretty often. He tends to lack common sense and can easily be tricked or deceived. He's very empathetic and caring, taking it upon himself to be the "motherly" one of the group. Easily excitable is an understatement and his unwavering optimism could get on the nerves of his teammates.

Skills: Plant and tree specialist. Able to determine even rare species and understands Equestria's plant and tree life better than the average pony. Being a pegasus, he can also fly and is quite experienced with enchanted comics. His open mind allows him to think outside the box and solve unusual puzzles.

Character name: August

Species: Peryton

Personality: August is sly and confident, not concerning himself with the needs of others. To him, everypony just isn't as important as he is unless it's a very close friend. He's seemingly immune to fear and craves dangerous situations, even thriving when the stakes are high. He also loves to observe, instigate, and generally experience any sort of conflict as a way of escaping from a single second of boredom. As a result, his words are dripping with sarcasm more often than not. When August becomes curious as to how a curtain pony would react in a given situation, he'll do whatever it takes to find out.

Skills: Stealth, speed, cunning, and graceful movement. Able to think up a solution while in the thick of things and maintains a cool head during most circumstances. Able to glide and is quite formidable during combat without a weapon due to his antlers.

Thanks for all the applications so far, keep 'em coming! As I said, this RP won't start for a while, so I won't be choosing players until later. But earlier applicants give me more time to look over the characters, so they are always appreciated!

The narrative for this RP will serious and more factual than sarcastic or joking, mostly because a comedic narrative will ruin the effect of the RP, in my opinion. The purpose is to give players a fun and challenging RP to actively participate in, so having to-the-point and factual narrative will run better than, albeit funny, sarcastic and comedic narrative.

(Though that's not to say that the characters won't be faced with some specific scenarios that are comedic and whacky in nature. But those will come in the form of NPCs and events themselves, rather than the narrative.)

Character Name: Dunder Blust

Species: Winged pony

Personality: Can be quiet and shy around new ponies, but still prefers to be nice. Around ponies he knows he can get really buddy-buddy with them. In a lot of situations, he prefers to add little or stay silent, though. He is loyal and string willed, but can still be kind of a joker. He is also fiercely loyal and has a strong sense of brotherhood.

Skills: Trained martial artist and skilled in the culinary arts. He takes his culinary and martial arts very seriously. He is able to prepare nutritious meals for everypony in the party along with being able to take on multiple opponents. Also he is a skilled traveler, and knows techniques for surviving in many environments.

Character Name: Marusha Moonlight

Species: pegasus

Personality: She is a generally nice pony, friendly to any new ponies she meets, at least initially. She prefers to avoid conflict, opting to talk her way out of most situations. She is also a bit of a prankster at times, though those are generally harmless.

Skills: Being a professional thief, she knows how to move unseen when needed, and is pretty observant of what happens around her. She has typical thief skills, such as lockpicking, as well as the ability to move rather agilely when needed. She also has skills in using her paired daggers if it comes down to a fight.

Character Name:
Lunar Relic

Species:
Unicorn

Personality:
Calm, brave, slow to warm up to others, can become cover stressed in tight places

Skills:
Lunar is very proficient in the use of Magic and his work as an Archeologist makes him great at solving puzzles and deciphering riddles. Another perk is he can read almost any text in existence.

Cons (I figured I might as well):
Lunar Relic does not do well when he has to try and think in tight spaces, he has small paranoia when in any old structure that is abandoned or runic. he can be a little hasty when the possibility of old artifacts might result from something making him vulnerable to skipping and missing important details.

Thanks for the continued applications! Slowly starting to work out this RP, so hopefully I'm closer to opening it up.

Also, side note: Due to some real-life going-ons, I'm going to find it difficult to be online during the week. However, weekends should still be good. So just to let you all know, I haven't disappeared, I'm just normally inactive during the week, and this inactivity will probably last throughout January.

Just in case you do decide to get this on the go, here we are! I wanted to bring El but threw Sugar Star in as an option just in case, since El would make a second pony involved with plants and you want to keep things diverse.

Character Name: Elderflower
Species: Unicorn
Personality: Extremely warm and gentle, constantly considering the needs of others and doing her best to make them feel calm and at peace. Her gentle nature is not to be mistaken for weakness, though: she's got a history of adventuring on her own under her belt and is actually a very tough and capable mare! She's also a huge tea-lover.
Skills: She has pretty solid and reliable kinetic magic, but (and this would would for CC/Gathering only) she also has a knack for enlarging and manipulating plants. Specifically, she uses her magic as an energy source to grow and enlarge seeds from a strain of thorny tea roses she has bred in order to create barriers between herself and foes. Through the use of kinetic magic, as well, she can weaponize these oversized plants by controlling the branches and using them to swipe or constrict enemies/obstacles.

Character Name: Sugar Star
Species: Pegasus

Personality: A huge comic book geek and girly-girl type mostly hidden behind a military façade. Sugary-sweet personality, very kind-hearted, gets flustered and blushes easily. She's constantly running an inner-monologue in which the world around her is part of some meta shoujo-comic world.
Skills: Sugar's pretty skilled with a sword and hoof-to-hoof combat thanks to required REA training, but her real skills lie in agile flight thanks to spending most of her life enrolled in dancing classes before signing up with the REA. So she's also a pretty good dancer, on the ground and in the air! She has a bit of an unconventional fighting style, using the many bows, sweets, and bottles of glitter she keeps hidden on her person to give her the upper-hoof in a fight.
