"The orchard!" Lousie shouts. "Is this the same apple orchard that was once a point of contention between the Appleoosa ponies and the native buffalo herd?"

"Ee yup! The very same one!" Sheriff Silverstar neighed as he led Louise and Hoss to the cliff overlooking the orchard. "Thar it is! Appleoosa's pride and joy! Our apple orchard! We feed our town with it and bake pies for the buffalo too, as per our agreement."

"I've read about that! I simply MUST meet the buffalo! The stories and insights they can give me will help with my fiction writing! Sheriff, you have to arrange a meeting with them, PLEASE?"

The brown furred Pegasus mare really turned on the charm, giving the mustached stallion her best 'sad eyes' look.

"You win, ma'am! That look of yours could charm the rattle off a rattlesnake! I'll have to git a message to Chief Thunderhooves, but I'm sure that won't be a problem. Take a few days to arrange though."

"I've got plenty of time to wait, Sheriff," Louise said with a beaming grin.

"Er.. yeah," he said as he turned towards Hoss. "That's perty much it for the tour of town, unless your lookin' for somethin' in particular in town. Got lots of shops on Main Street to explore."

Hoss shook his mane, making the blue metal ring holding his ponytail jingle.

"Not that I can think of, off-hoof, Sherrif. I think I saw the general store in passing if we need anything not already in the cart."

He tapped a hoof in thought "Oh yeah, that strange flash I saw out in the desert. Would you like for me to take a few minutes to check that out? It was that way..." He points out into the desert.

(Hoss should be back in several posts, whether anything happens in the "UFOs in the Desert" thread or not. Hopefully Madam Bistro will be cleared by tonight)

"Absoltively!" Sherrif Silverstar neighed. "It's my sworn duty to investigate anythin' out of the ordinary here in Appleoosa!"

"Out in the desert you say?" Louise asked with a broad grin. "I love a good mystery, could I please tag along with you two fine gentleponies?"

"Better watch it," the sheriff whispered to Hoss. "That thar filly ain't gonna take no fer an answer."

"I heard that, Sheriff!" the brown furred Pegasus neighed with a giggle. "But you happen to be right about that. Too bad you have no wings, Sheriff. Hoss and I could fly out to the desert rather quickly."

"Well ma'am, I am what I am, so I'll jist has to follow y'all on hoof."

"Maybe not, Louise said as she spotted a open ended cart one block away. "I see a nice wooden chariot that Hoss and I could be hitched to and then fly you out there with us!"

"ME? In a chariot? What do I look like, Princess Celestia? If'n the good Lord had meant fer me to fly, he'd given me wings like the two of you gots!"

"Oh come now, Sheriff, where's your sense of adventure?"

"I does my adventurin' with all four hooves on the ground!"

"Oh PLEASE Sheriff, do it for ME??"

Louise once more breaks out the 'sad eyes' look on the mustached stallion. After staring at him for a few seconds, the hat wearing horse nods his head 'yes'.

(ooc); Madam Bistro's approved! YAY!!!!

Hoss nickered and waved a wingtip "If it's no trouble Sherrif. I would welcome the company."

He earperked as the expedition suddenly got bigger when Louise asked to come along. He nodded sagely at the Sherrif, then spoke to Louise "Oh yes, please. You seem to be handling the heat better than my sister, at least."

He chuckled at the writer's enthusiasm "Well yes, that cart would be perfect. That would be the one me and my sis pulled up here. It's already enchanted for pegasus flight. Let me just move the cloud from it over to Shanna's room..."

Quickly, Hoss moved the small cloud from being parked on the cart, right on up over Room 5 of the B&B to keep it cool with it's shade, then came back down. He hitched himself right up to the bright yellow cart on one side of the limbers and waited for Louise. "If it makes you feel safer, Sherrif, we have straps and belts back there for cargo and occasional passengers. The lead Astronomer in Canterlot, Stargazer, is quite nervous about flying since he's a unicorn so he does not entirely trust the seat-keeping enchantment. Let me know when you are ready."

------------

Meanwhile, inside the B&B, Madam Bistro had been relieved earlier when things started to slow down from lunch rush. She was amazed to have gotten the third pegasus that day asking for a room. Maybe that silly weather pony she had heard of but not seen yet was about to have competition...

Then the train whistle and bell let her know she was about to get REALLY busy. The crews were now clear to leave the train for a break! "THORN! Get the bread from the warming oven! Rustle up the Sandwich fixings! I'm on coffee and donuts! We're about to get Train Crew!"

She trotted around getting enough cups and donut samplers ready while the donkey rushed around getting the sandwich line ready for orders.

She was stunned when nearly the entire town showed up at her door, escorting in an aged mare, lime green and silver hair done up in a bun, her tail too. Wasnt there such a mare that all her customers talk about as their family Matriarch?

Bistro quickly fluffed her mane and made sure her mane comb was in place, then smoothed her apron and trotted up to the ancient mare. "Good afternoon, Ma'am. Welcome to Madam Bistro's Bed and Breakfast, I am at your service!"

"Why in the name of Equestria did I ever agree to this?" Sheriff Silverstar asked as Louise galloped up to the left side and hitched herself up.

"Thanks for agreeing to do this, Hoss," Louise whispered. "Are you ready back there, Sheriff?"

"Ready as I'll ever be!" the mustached stallion shouted forward after strapping himself in.

"You lead, Hoss, since you know where we're going," the brown Pegasus said with a toothy grin. "I think the Sheriff looks cute when he's frightened."

"I HEARD THAT, MA'AM!"

Meanwhile, at the Madam Bistro's place, the Apple family relatives gently sat Granny Smith down in front of the registration desk where Madam Bistro was standing.

"What? Oh yeah, I'd like a room young lady, and somethin' to eat. It was a long train ride to git here!"

Hoity-Toity was now getting why they called it a desert. Sure, he had to travel all over and be ready to face every single obstacle in order to know all kinds of fashion worn in Equestria. But what he was going through was just too much. He had sand scratching his hooves, and a burning sun hitting his fashionista head. But he had now arrived at Appleloosa, and he wanted to be staying in some place fancy. Something that could show how much he could afford, and where he could work on his recent designs.

He walked almost as if he was prancing, with his nose touching the skies and his hooves barely touching the sand. Even if he was sweating beneath his clothes. Everypony around stared at him, as if he was a total idiot among them. But of course that Hoity-Toity thought otherwise.

He finally found a bigger house that was signed as being "Madam Bistro's Place". He stopped complaining to himself, and opened the door all of a sudden. And of course, he waited for somepony to salute him.

Hoss smiled as the sherrif settled in and nodded to Louise.

"You're welcome, now lets get going. Hyah!"

Grinning in high spirits, the pegasus gave a quick trot and lifted off, then wheeled about in a slow circle to give the Sherrif a chance to get comfy.

"Lets keep it under a hundred feet so the Sherrif will feel better..." and aimed for the direction he saw the flash.

(Hoss exiting for the moment...)

-------------

Meanwhile, Madam Bistro cheerfully brought out the registry book.

"Certainly, Ma'am. I still have several rooms ready to go at this time. Two are upstairs on the second floor, and I also have a room here on the first floor if that would be preferable."

Bistro also took a moment to pull out a menu "As for food, at this time of day, we have soups, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, and everything coffee. We also have a decent selection of pies and pastries."

She smiles sheepishly "I've been reluctant to do apple based pastries untill I can find a local willing to do the job since everyone compares my attempts to that of the Apple family. I'm willing to try again if you wish it."

She kept looking from the Apple Family Matriarch to her kin for cues on how well they were taking her treatment of the most loved pony in town, and back to see how the personage in question was taking it.

Her tension increased tenfold when she saw another traveller come in behind the croud. She nearly fainted when she recognized Hoity Toity, thinking * OH DEAR CELESTIA!! TWO ponies I cannot leave hanging AT THE SAME TIME!! *

She frantically motioned to Thorn to help the VIP.

The donkey trotted over and bowed to the fasionista, offering his sincere apologies and Latte on the house. "Madam will be with you momentarily, sir. Yon Matriarch is most important to the entire town. Our apologies for any inconveninece sir."

This was the make-or-break moment for this new location and she knew it, only keeping her tail from trembling by sheer force of will.

Louise kept up with Hoss, flying a steady course and allowing the Pegasus stallion to lead. In the back on the makeshift flying chariot, although Sheriff Silverstar was secured by straps, he was still uneasy about flying.

"Just relax Sheriff," Louise urged as she continued flapping her wings in rythem with Hoss's. "Enjoy the ride!"

"WWHHHOOOOOAAAAAAA NNNEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYY!" the mustache lawpony cried out as the Pegasus driven wooden cart flew over the town.

"What in tarnation's gonin' on?" Granny Smith asked, dropping everything when she heard the Sheriff's screaming. Galloping to a nearby window with surprising speed, the gray maned mare looked up in astonishment. "Land sakes! That thar's the Sheriff! Where's he git that contraption? I wanna ride in one of them thar things whilest I'm out here! Hey Miss Bistro, ya sell tickets fer a ride in that thar flyin' wagon?"

Then Granny Smith turned and spotted Hoity Toity.

"Hold on thar, mister! I think I know you. Ain't ya one of my kin from back East? You know any of the Oranges from Manehattan?"

Meanwhile, in the air....

"LET ME KNOW WHEN WE LAND!" the frightened sheriff shouted, closing his eyes.

"Isn't he cute when he's terrified?" Louise laughed.

(ooc): I wonder what Hoity Toity thinks of the Sheriff in his flying chariot? LOL

The elegant stallion thanked in a low tone for the Latte, and took a sip right away. Almost at the same time, he made a sitting motion back, and right away somepony came out of nowhere with a pillow to support his rear. He then caught sight of the elder mare, looking at her with a disdainful expression behind his fashionable pink glasses. It wasn't his intention, all because that was his nature. "Well I do know them indeed. In fact, I am the one who provides them most of their outfits for their grand events. They have a picky style, I have to admit...", Hoity-Toity said, and then took another sip and looked back at Granny Smith.

"And who would--" but his speech got cut short when he heard a loud scream with a westen accent. He spit his Latte in a sudden and put it down right away, heading to the door. He lowered his glasses to reveal his dark blue eyes, while he looked up at the passing by chariot. "Holy Celestia of Canterlot! What in the world is that thing?", the truth was that the fashion designer loved chariots, and ride on them, but he had never seen such an... odd one?

Madam Bistro trotted up to the window and shaded her amber eyes with a mocha colored hoof "Oh dear, that would be the Sherrif. He must have deputzed two of my guests for an emergency. That is a cart some of them brought from Cloudsdale on some business of Canterlot. The comet tonight, I believe."

She turned to Granny Smith "I am afraid I dont sell tickets for rides, but they are guests here. I am sure they would be happy to give you a ride. They are bay colored pegasi twins, very hard to miss with black stripes in their wings, and the mare is currently upstairs. I'm sure she will be down soon."

She trotted back to the registrar desk "Now, whenever you are ready, Um, Granny Smith is it? And feel free to let me know what you would like for lunch."

Bistro looked at the help, wiggled an ear and tapped her hoof twice. Nodding, the donkey bowed to Hoity-Toity "Madam will have a cozy Master suite for you momentarily. Do you wish luncheon right away?"

Meanwhile, upstairs in Room 5, Shanna looked out the window sleepily as the yellow cart rocketed past with a screaming sherrif "Oh dear Luna! What are you up to now, Hoss..."

Shaking her head, she clopped back to her bed for a few more minutes rest.

"I knowed it!" Granny Smith neighed at Hoity Toity. "You do know the Oranges! They were a little bit too 'high and mighty' to come to the last Apple Family Reunion! Sometimes I think all that thar money they made in the stock market made'm all snooty!"

Some of the Apple family relatives gasped in shock at what the matriarch of the group just said.

"Well it's true! Ain't no sense in lyin' about it!" the lime green mare said before a smile came upon her face. "By gum! I'm gonna git me a ride on that thar flyin' cart thingie!"

Granny Smith slowly walked up to the front desk. "Now then, young lady, how about a room and some grub? I don't want much to eat, jist a stack of pancakes, bowl of oatmeal with shedded hay on it, two apple fritters and a tall glass of apple juice, fer starters!"

More looks of disbelief from the Apple family relatives.

"Stop galkin' at me, youngins! I got my teeth in, and I'm as hungry as a picnic ant in the desert!"

The fashion designer looked down at the mule almost with even more disdain than he did when he looked at Granny Smith. For him, donkeys were simply beings that wanted to be like ponies, but just...uglier? And he never hid what he thought, even if it was just through his actions. "No thank you, Madam. I feel more inspired for anything when my stimach is empty... and ready to be filled with fashion.", he said, raising and lifting one hoof, and then laughing at his own joke as if it was very funny indeed. Without any further addiction, he turned to Granny Smith again and cleared his throat. "So... You know the apple family, perhaps? I've seen an orange mare with an apple on her flank, in a fashion show for my beloved Rarity. Do you know her?", he explained, not really knowing if she actually knew what he was talking about.

A couple of the server ponies looked at each other in shock that Granny smith would order as much as one of the train engineers but rushed off to gather the food.

Madam Bistro nudged the register book up to the shakey hooves "We will see that you are well fed here, Granny Smith. I will personally fry the apple fritters for you, and we get our apple Juice from Braeburn's homestead. I'm so glad you want to try my cooking. Oh, yes, could you sign here please?"

Meanwhile, the donkey managed to keep from roling his eyes at the treatment by Hoity-Toity, making Bistro sigh in relief. She hoped she could keep both of theese VIPs happy even if they were like oil and water together.

She was also curious to hear more about an Apple family relative in a Fasion show...

Granny Smith's face brightened after Hoity Toity spoke.

"You're a talkin' about my granddaughter Applejack! That was a wonderful dress her friend Rarity made her. She even wore it to the Grand Galloping Gala. Too bad she didn't sell much apples there. I was lookin' forward to gittin' a new hip. Y'know, if'n you like my granddaughter, maybe you ain't such a snooty pony after all! Care to have a drink with me? I'm a havin' apple juice."

The dozen Apple family kin decided to follow the lead of their matriarch, sitting down to have lunch while shaking hoofs with Hoity Toity and introducing themselves. They recognized that Granny Smith, in her own way, was trying to be neighborly to the sophisicated stallion.

"Hey Miss Bistro! When ya git my room assigned, tell the two youngin's who got my luggage where it is. They wanna take my bags to my room for me."

(( I am SOOOOO sorry for the delay everypony, but my horses IRL have been giving me a buch of work these last days  ))

Hoity-Toity had now a smile growing on his muzzle, while he shook hooves with almost the entire Apple family. He loved attention, and he couldn't deny it. But he didn't bother about hidding that fact either... He lifted his head to Granny Smith when he got a moment, as if saying he would have a drink.

"With pleasure, Madam. It's always nice to have a drink with a lady!", he said, chuckling in his snobby way, but not intending to behave as a snob with Granny Smith. He ordered one more glass of apple juice for him and when he got it, he took short sips, like he had been taught. He didn't usually have homemade drinks, only if it was very fancy or very expensive. So he loved it when he could have a tste of the drinks other ponies made.

(OOC: Not a problem. I know what a hoofful they can be thanks to the ones on the ranch I'm working on. :) )

Madam Bistro came over and let Granny Smith know her room was on the first floor, pointing to the short hallway in the back and handing over a key.

She then watched pleasently as Hoity-Toity actually seemed to be enjoying himself now, the crowd noise growing all the more as she waited with the register book and a key for him. This was becoming quite a day. perhaps she should have her "Grand Opening" sooner than later...

Shanna groaned upstairs and rolled out of her bed, making her way out on the balcony for some fresh air, her black mane waving in the breeze as she looked out over the town. "At least Hoss left me the cloud for shade. it's much nicer out here with that cloud..."

Before the elderly lime green mare could move a hoof, two of the Apple family foals took the key and carted Granny Smith's luggage to her room. They then returned to the table and placed the key near the Apple family matriarch.

"Thank you, youngin's," she said as she turned towards the well dressed dapper stallion who shared her table. "And thank YOU sir, fer bein' such a gentlepony! Lots of folks kinda look down on me cause I'm old. Dang it, I can't help it that age is-a catchin' up to me! It's a pleasure to share a drink with ya. You've met all these relations of mine, but thar's one pony I wish was here. Braeburn! I hear tell Braeburn's a very important pony in Appleoosa! He's Sheriff Silverstar's deputy and he loves greetin' newcomers. Wonder where he is right now?"

Granny Smith looked around and then turned her head back towards Hoity Toity.

"I jist got me a jim dandy idear! How's about you and me take one of them thar fancy flyin' chariot rides together? The Sheriff sure looked like he was havin' fun in that contraption!"

The gray maned mare then turned her head towards the front desk.

"Hey thar Miss Bistro! Any idea when that thar flyin' chariot'll be back?"

(While waiting, I'm going to go ahead and bring the Sherrif back from "UFOs in the desert")

Hoss flapped steadily, trying to keep a beat easy for the guest pegasus in the traces beside him to match.

Not as easy as that sounds though, while the passenger quivered in terror in the back, making the cart jiggle.

Finally the town came into view. He circled around the town once and lined up on the street between the train station and the Bed and Breakfast cafe, then set down carefully.

he plled right up to the hitching post and unhitched himself from the cart, and came around to start unstrapping the passenger. "This would be more enjoyable if you would relax, Sherrif Silverstar."

(and I need to respond here, since Louise LaMare and the Sheriff have just 'landed')

Louise LaMare, who had been hitched alongside Hoss for this 'air chariot trip', flapped her wings in unison with his to keep the flying cart as steady as they could before landing outside of Madam Bistro's place.

"Well Hoss, looks like our passenger's had a nice flight!" the brown Pegasus mare laughed, noticing the wide-eyed frightened look on the Sheriff's face as Hoss unstrapped him.

"Is we on solid ground yet?" the mustached stallion asked.

"Of course we are, silly pony!" Louise neighed as the last restraint was removed from the Sheriff's body. Immediately, the brown furred lawpony leaped from the wagon, knelt down on all fours.

"I'm alive! I'm alive" he neighed repeatedly, kissing the ground. Louise tried to control her laughing impulse, but she couldn't. Soon she was laughing hysterically, rolling on the ground laughing at the sight of the silly Sheriff.

(OOC: bumping the thread a bit)

Hoss chuckled and folded his wings "Somehow I think you and Professor Stargazer would get along very well, Sherrif Silverstar. We sometimes have to fly him here and there from Canterlot for celestial observations."

Manwhile, Madam Bistro pointed outside " Well, well. It looks like the cart has returned with the Sherrif. You have your chance to ask about flying, Granny Smith."

She giggles and shakes her head "Oh poor Sherrif, I dont think he has his sky legs yet..."

Thorn looked up from the counter "Shall I make peppermint tea for the sherrif?"

She hmmed and thought for a moment "Not yet, but get it ready to be made..."

(OOC) Sent Hoity Toity's player a notice about this RP being active again a week ago, the message remains unread so I think we can assume his player has left the RP (and maybe Canterlot, com altogether). With that in mind, we'll leave Hoity Toity at his table and if his player comes back, then he can take it from there.

"Oh goody! I wanna ride!" Granny Smith neighed as she jumped up from her table. "Powerful surry about this, sir, but I ain't gonna let an opportunity like this'n git away from me!"

As the elderly lime green mare slowly moved towards the door, Louise LaMare led Sheriff Silverstar inside.

"I ain't never gonna have my hoofs leave the ground agin!" the mustached stallion announced as the brown Pegasus mare led him to a nearby chair.

"Ah c'mon Sheriff, where's your Spirit of Adventure?" Louise asked.

"I think I left it back on the desert," he said with a weary look on his face, "along with my breakfast!"

"Hey you, wingy girl!" Granny Smith shouted. "I wanna fly in that thar air chariot next!"

"Air chariot? What are you talking about, miss, miss.."

"Name's Granny Smith and I want the next air chariot ride!"

"But you don't understand, the Sheriff.."

"Had his turn already! I've got plenty of bits to pay ya, I wanna fly!"

"But, but.."

"No buts! I wanna ride!"

Louise saw that this elderly mare wasn't going to take no for an answer. She turned towards Hoss.

"Hoss? Shall we give this dear sweet mare a ride in our... air chariot?"

(OOC: the player posted in "Jingling Satchel Repair Shop" the other day, Kalpira is having tech difficulties getting online lately.)

Hoss stretched his wings to relax them from the flight.

Suddenly the matronly mare of Sweet Apple Acres came out and started asking Louise for a ride.

Hoss watched in surprise as the elderly lime green mare badgered the pegasus mare, insisting on a ride in the air chariot.

Finally Louise looked back at Hoss in dismay, asking him to help out.

Hoss bowed to Granny Smith "I would be honored to have you as a passenger, Granny Smith, and for free. Me and my sister are sometimes on the Weather Teams you call out to handle your farm. You have a way with words when it comes to handling the Ponyville Weather Teamleader."

The bay stallion comes around to the back of the cart, tipping it backwards into becoming a ramp for her "just step right in and sit down. That panel becomes a seat back, and there is a lap belt here. Just ignore the other straps unles you want to be trussed up like a turkey for the ride."

"I sure do appreciate this, youngin's!" Granny Smith neighed as the elderly mare slowly made her way up the 'ramp' to get set. "Jist need the lap strap, I wanna git all I kin outta this ride!"

The others in the Apple clan rushed outside to see their matriarch prepare to fly in the cart. Louise walked over and as she began to strap herself into the hitch, she whispered to Hoss.

"Thanks for doing this for Granny Smith. Look how happy she is!"

Soon, Sheriff Silverstar felt recovered enough to walk outside to watch.

"Lookie at me, Sheriff! I'm a gonna fly!"

"Better you than me, Miss Smith," the mustached stallion said. "I'ma keepin' my hooves on the ground fer now on!"

"Party pooper," Louise laughed as she turned towards Hoss. "Ready to fly?"

Hoss smiled and nodded to Louise as she wispered to him. he whispered back "Happy to do it for her. It's so good to do something nice for her."

He then leaned over the side of the cart to get Granny Smith belted in and pop the seatback up into place for her.

"Are you comfy? can you still look around okay?"

With her settled in, he gave a wave at her kin and started hitching himself up as the sherrif came out.

Hoss chuckled as the Sherrif made his position on flying clear "I suspect you'll change your tune soon enough with a certain pegasus around.."

He turned to Louise "I'm ready. Go ahead and direct where we go this time now that you've gotten to feel how this particular cart handles. I'm sure you'll impress your new neighbors."

"I'm all set back here!" Granny Smith neighed. "Let's git this contraption in the air!"

"Ok Hoss, let's do a loop around the town, show our famous visitor the clock tower from above!" Louise shouted as she began to flap her wings. "Ready for takeoff when you are, Hoss!"

"I can't wait to tell my grandkids back at Sweet Apple Acres about this!"

As Sheriff Silverstar and the gathered Apple clan watched in amazement, Louise and Hoss began to fly, lifting the cart off the ground and towards the sky. Granny cheered for joy as the gray maned mare felt the wind in her mane and felt the thrill of flight!
