(Canterlot) In Sickness and in Health (Private ATTN: IceStorm)

It was a weekend in Canterlot as Fire Heart trotted down the street with a very upbeat spring in her step. The week had been busy with her classes in Princess Celestia's School as the days marched ever closer to her graduation from the school. It seemed only yesterday that she was a filly afraid of her powers entering the school for the first time, and now she was on the verge of ending this part of her life and starting a new one. There was something though beyond what she learned that she now took into her new life, or rather somepony. She remembered the tumultuous day that she confronted her friend Ice Storm only to have the two of them declare their love for each other, one that the red unicorn never experienced in her life. Now not a day went by when she thought about the blue unicorn and the future they had together,

As she approached the frozen treats shop that Ice Storm, Fire realized that it had been a few days since she saw Ice. Part of it was how bust the young mare was, but usually the blue unicorn poked her head in to her school occasionally, seeing how Fire was doing or giving her a playful kiss as if to not make Fire forget. But now her presence was absent from Fire's life and it left a growing hole in her life.

"I hope she's ok," Fire said as her goal drew ever closer, "I don't remember her saying she would be on vacation."

As she reached the store she could see that the lights out were out and the sign on the door was flipped to Closed. This disturbed the young mare as Ice kept her store open almost all Saturdays because that was when ponies were free from work and school to relax and enjoy her treats she made her magic. But now there was just darkness.

"I better check inside to make if she is ok," Fire said as she unlocked the door with the spare key given to her and stepped inside. Nothing in the store was touched, and strangely nothing was touched either in the kitchen. The red unicorn wondered if Ice had some kind of family emergency that caused her to leave before even getting breakfast. She made her way up to the top floor where Ice's room was and to her surprise she saw that the bedroom door was closed.

"Ice, are you in there?" she said knocking lightly on the door, "It's me, Fire."

Darkness. There was a lot of this in Ice Storm's shop at the moment, and while anypony that knew her knew that she was a nocturnal pony, they also knew that her shop was very well lit. the fact that it was dark meant that the shop was closed, and that was something that just didn't happen that often. Ice Storm was always one to have her shop open. The only time she ever truly closed it was when she needed some time to unwind, or when she wasn't home. That time was almost never on a weekend though, and let alone peak hours. She felt the gurgling in her stomach as she began another coughing fit. One of the very many that had kept her awake for most of the night the last couple nights. It was hard enough to trigger her reflex and she found herself leaning on the side of her bead with a waste bit awaiting whatever her stomach was wanting to make her get rid of.

A few moments later she heard some creaking coming up the stairs and then soon later a knock at the door. The knock itself was followed by a familiar voice. One that even in her sickly state, Ice Storm was very happy to hear. Although she was very much not presentable at all at the moment. Her mane was probably a mess, and she had thrown her covers everywhere to cool off from a fever that she was most likely running.  "Come... In..." she replied to Fire between coughs weakly tugging at her covers so that she could cover up her protective attire so that her marefriend didn't have to see her at her complete worst. When she did though, the rest of the blanket fell off of the bed, only partially succeeding.

The sound of her marefriend warmed Fire's heart as it did every time the two were together. But it was also worry some as the unicorn on the other side of the door sounded very sick, coughing even as she greeted the red unicorn. Fire wondered if it was a good idea visiting today as perhaps Ice preferred to be alone. Still Ice did invite her in. She slowly opened the door to find Ice Storm lying in bed. She didn't look like the beautiful mare that she always was, her mane a mess and bags under her eyes from lack of sleep. The covers were haphazardly wrinkled indicating a bad night's sleep. The worse thing though was a pungent odor that Fire guessed what it could be but preferred not to.

"Oh my gosh Ice," she said running to her marefriend's side, "Are you all right? Wait a minute, of course you aren't all right you're sick. How long since you got sick?"

Ice Storm's coughing fit finally started to subside as the door to her room opened. Coming through the door, was the one pony that could make her feel better in even the worst situations. Well, in mind at least. If Fire had the ability to instantly cure a biological illness then she would be even more perfect than she was. She tried to smile but was met with more coughing as Fire came to her, inquiring about her condition and if she was okay. "It started the night before last and was just a cough. Now it's a lot more... I've been coughing, sneezing, throwing up, and hardly able to move without getting dizzy," she replied. "But I'm at least happy now that your here. It makes my mind feel a bit better, plus your company is always a perfect remedy for most illnesses. At least, ones that aren't telling my stomach that it's not allowed to have food." she joked, though paying for it instantly as the quick laugh started another coughing fit.

Fire Heart shuddered as Ice Storm gave a detailed description of her illness. She did care that her marefriend though was in pain but what made her cringe was hearing how this wasn't just a simple cold. The poor mare seemed to barely hold down any food or get out of bed, making Fire wonder how long she was confined.

But I'm at least happy now that your here. It makes my mind feel a bit better, plus your company is always a perfect remedy for most illnesses. At least, ones that aren't telling my stomach that it's not allowed to have food."

"I'm glad that I came here too, although I wish it was under better circumstances seeing you sick like this. I'm glad that you're happier though. Is there anything I can do to help you? I know you can't eat, but maybe something to drink?"

The shudder that Ice Storm saw when she described the symptoms of what she was feeling pretty much summed up exactly how she felt about the situation. Fire said that she was happy that she came to check on her. Although, she wished that it was under better circumstances as she didn't really like seeing her sick. It was understandable because Ice didn't really like seeing other ponies sick either, and it most definitely wasn't fun being the pony that was sick. When Fire asked if there was anything she could do to help, perhaps something to drink, Ice nodded. "I could use a glass of water, and perhaps I could try keeping down some broth down as well. I haven't had much luck with that last part though," she replied not mentioning the other condition that she was in.

"Ok, water and broth, got it! I'll be right back!" Fire said giving a reassuring touch to her marefriend's hoof before disappearing back down the steps. Getting the water was easy after finding a glass, but then Fire needed to find the broth. She searched through the cupboards until finding a packet of the seasoned broth. Thankfully this one was just broth and no noodles or veggies. fire could wait for a pot filled with water or the tea kettle to heat on the stove but that took time.

"Wait, I got a better idea," she said as she filled a pot with water. Then lifting it in the air with her magic she used her fire ability to heat the water. As it was heated up she added the broth and returned to Ice Storm's side.

"Ok, I got you  the water and the broth. So how about trying the water first to see if you are ok with that? Are you strong enough to lift the glass with your hooves or magic?"

Ice Storm smiled as her marefriend gave her a reassuring pat on her hoof before heading down to get the water and the broth that she asked for. It didn't take long after she left for her coughing fit to start back up again. The coughing made her short of breath and every time she tried to catch her breath by breathing deeply, it created another coughing fit. AS soon as it seceded though, her stomach already began to feel a bit woosy and she hadn't even put anything in it yet. She heard the door click, but no sooner did it as she felt a sneeze coming and had very little time to block it or turn away. As she sneezed, a small bit of ice shot out of her horn and landed on her Armour.  The sneeze also distracted her enough to lose the grip she had on her covers, the weight of most of them already fallen off the bed pulling the rest of them with her. She instantly wrapped her hooves around herself as the warmth of her blanket most definitely didn't go unnoticed.

When Fire Came over to her, she asked if she was strong enough to lift the glass with her hoof or magic. "My magic is uncontrollable right now and only flares up when I sneeze. I might be able to lift it though. Could your hand me my blankets again please? It feels very cold but hot at the same time..." she responded. It was obvious that she was running a fever which was probably why everything else felt cold to her. The fact that she even commented about a chill was rare for her in of itself. She also hoped her marefriend would mind her... condition, as now that the covers were off, even she could notice the pungent odor. As she got closer she tried to reach out for the glass with a hoof that was, very much not steady at all.

Fire couldn't help but notice as she stood by Ice Storm's side that there were several troubling aspects. One was a patch of ice on the Armour now dripping slightly. Another was the fact that the heavy blankets were now on the ground, no doubt falling under their own weight. But the worst was that pungent odor that Fire knew what it was but felt too embarrassed to point out to her mare friend.

My magic is uncontrollable right now and only flares up when I sneeze. I might be able to lift it though. Could your hand me my blankets again please? It feels very cold but hot at the same time..."

Fire now began to worry as Ice feeling cold was a rarity. As Ice took the glass, Fire carefully placed her hoof on Ice's forehead, just below her horn.

"Oh my gosh Ice, you're burning up with fever! Do you have a thermometer in your house?"

It took a few more moments than normal, but Ice Storm was able to get the glass to her mouth and take a sip from it as she felt her marefriend's hoof on her head. She confirmed how she felt by saying that she felt like she was burning up and if she had a thermometer. "I think I have one in the first aid kit in the washroom. But I don't know for sure. I've never really had to use it before," she commented. It was true, she rarely ever got sick, and before hand when she did, she didn't have any energy to move, let alone try to take a temperature or do anything that could be any sort of strenuous at all. "Thank you, for the water and broth as well," she tried to smile, though a few coughs decided to interrupt.

At least Ice seemed well enough as she drank the water and it seemed to agree with her. Strangely the blue unicorn didn't seem to know entirely whether she had a thermometer or not, maybe because she hardly got sick of her current illness was making things fuzzy.

"Alright, let me get that then. Just keep sipping your water."

The mare retreated into the nearby bathroom which was a little disheveled as well like the mare didn't have time to clean it. Nothing too gross, just in a state of disarray. Yet through the clutter, Fire managed to find the first aid kit and thermometer.

"Ok, found it," she said as the the glass tube floated towards her mouth, "Are you ready for me to do this?"

Ice Storm waited and tried to drink more of the water that Fire had gotten for her while she went into the bathroom to find the thermometer. Of course, it wasn't like she had any choice in the matter. IF she tried to get up or do anything she would get a dizzy spell that would put her right back in the bed. Just as Fire went into the bathroom though she felt another sneeze coming on, and As soon as Fire stepped back through the door, her sneeze went off shooting another patch of Ice on the armour. She came back over to her and asked if she was read for her to check her temperature. She nodded lightly and opened her mouth for her marefriend.

((I don't know what the normal temperature of a Pony would be, but I would consider Icy's normal temperature a bit lower than average, and her current temperature high for an average pony.))

(( I'd say we can go by human standards for temperature.))

Fire Heart didn't want to force Ice into doing anything, especially since she was sick. But she had to see how sick she was and Ice looked like she accepted it.

"Alright, just hold still," Fire said as she put the thermometer into her marefriend's mouth, "Now close your mouth, but don't bite down too hard on the glass."

About a minute or so later Fire carefully extracted the glass tube from Ice's mouth and looked at the results.

"Well, you definitely have a temperature, although not bad enough to be serious. Do you want me to get a doctor Ice?"

The thermometer was kind of uncomfortable when Fire Heart placed it in her mouth but it was most certain to do the job that it was intended to do. When Fire Heart removed the thermometer, it had confirmed what they both pretty much already knew. Ice Storm was running a fever, which is probably why she felt so hot and cold at the same time. When Fire asked if she wanted to get a doctor, Ice Storm pondered. "Well... if you really think I need one we can, but... I don't think that I would be able to make it there. Epseciailly not in my current condition. I'm woosy, disoriented, my tummy is upset, and I'm most definitely not clean..." she said. "If we did get a doctor, they'd probably have to come here."

"Well your fever is high but hopefully it will drop. I don't think a doctor is necessary right now, but you're right you're in no shape to go to a doctor. I was just checking to see if you really needed one."

Fire hoped that the cold cloth and the water were a good start, but that didn't help Ice Storm feel better in the short term.

"Is there anything that you try to do when you're sick to help take your mind off of it?"

It didn't take much for Fire to agree with the fact that Ice Storm was not in any condition to go outside. Not only was she incredibly woosy, but the trek there would be incredibly embarrassing for her as well. She looked around the room and even as such fell a twinge in her head just from the minor movement she had just done, causing her to visibly wince and put her hoof on her head, as if in attempt to sooth the ache by rubbing it away. Fire also confirmed that her fever was definitely high, which she took meant it was exceptionally high for her, as she was naturally cool blooded.

When Fire asked if there was anything that she normally did to try to take her mind off the fact that she was sick, she pondered to the last time she was actually sick. She'd been hurt quite a few times with all of the things that she's gone through, especially the not so recent anymore events of the Crystal Empire, but she shook her head. "I never really thought of anything other than sleep. Most of the time when I get sick, I'm alone, and no pony really thinks to check on me. They just presume I'm out of town or something because I don't get sick very often. The last time I got this sick was a just before I moved back here from Ponyville," she replied to her marefriend.

Fire's ears drooped as she heard how for many days Ice suffered alone while the world outside went about its business. She couldn't blame them as no pony knew, but still she felt upset at what happened, especially that she ignored the fact that her marefriend was sick.

"I'm so sorry I left you alone for so long," she replied hugging the sickly unicorn carefully, "I didn't know you were sick, otherwise I would have rushed right over. You're not made at me, right?"

(OOC) Short post I know but don't worry larger ones will follow.

(No biggie)

Ice Storm returned the hug that her marefriend had started, although she was careful about it as she knew that too much pressure could cause her to have another coughing fit. "It's okay. I know that you would have. I'm hoping that this doesn't last too much longer than it already has, but at least I know that you'll be here with me however long it is. That said, anything you'd like to do that doesn't involve a lot of movement would be great to help take my mind off of being sick. I've already slept way too much, even though it feels like I still need more," she replied to her marefriend. She wanted to give her a kiss, but didn't know if what she had was contagious or not and she didn't want to make Fire sick as well.

For a moment Fire felt like she was going to kiss her marefriend. But just at the last moment the blue unicorn pulled away. Perhaps it was that she was took sick to show much affection or that she was afraid kissing her would spread the germs.

"Well, since you're not able to go somewhere like the park because you're sick, I think I know something that will cheer you up especially after a bad day of being sick. My parents would tell me to do this as it seemed to make me feel less sick. Do you want to try taking a bath?"

Ice Storm could see the small hint of sadness in her marefriends eyes when she pulled away from the kiss, but she just didn't want to risk her marefriend getting sick either. If she got Fire sick she'd never forgive herself. Although when Fire suggested about Ice Storm taking a bath, she pondered the idea. "Well, I suppose we could try that and see if it helps," She said taking a quick breath through her nose causing it to wrinkle. "Celestia knows I need one right about now, and I don't think it could make me feel worse..."

A bath actually sounded really good the more that she thought about it, and it was one of the few things that she loved very hot. Of course to her, very hot is more than likely somepony else's luke warm but it still worked for her. She wondered though what would happen if she got into the bath though and wasn't able to really do much herself, as moving in general was still quite difficult for her without getting a major dizzy spell.

"Trust me, you'll feel much better than you are now. I know I do when I'm sick."

It was clear that the way that her marefriend wrinkled her nose that she was focused on the smell and that a bath will at least rid herself of some of the stench. The red unicorn also smelled it, but she tried not to show her displeasure lest she make her marefriend feel even worse. She wondered how much that Ice Storm could do to bathe herself as she looked weak from her sickness.

"Ok, let's start by getting you out of bed. Can you sit up?"

Could she sit up? that was the question now wasn't it? Every time that she'd tried to sit up previously was met with a dizzy spell that made her too uncomfortable to move. Fire confirmed that she would most definitely feel better at least a bit after a bath. That it at least made her better when she was sick so Fire was presuming it would work on her too. She hoped she was right. Or at least, partially so. Ice Storm slowly started to push herself up into a seated position, her legs shaky just from the amount of force she was already putting on them, which wasn't a lot at the moment. It took a bit longer than even she expected, but she made it about halfway up before she started to get a dizzy spell and her hoof slipped, causing her to fall back down towards the bed. "I... suppose I do need a bit of help..." she answered her friend with a blush.

It was a simple question, asking Ice Storm to sit up, but it was an important one. The pony didn't look like she moved from her bed much if at all when she got sick except for only the most pressing needs. Still Ice did want to make an effort to try and take a bath, perhaps because it was her special somepony asking her to do this. Fire watched as she tried sitting up with her hooves, only to wobble and fall back down.

"I... suppose I do need a bit of help..."

"No problem," Fire said a little concerned about the fact that Ice couldn't sit up but at least not willing to give up, "Here take my hoof and I'll try and pull you up."

Ice Storm took the hoof that her friend had offered to help pull herself up. It still took her a few moments to sit up straight, but as soon as she had gotten into a full sitting position, she seemed to be okay. She had to sit there for a few minutes to let the dizziness wear off, but it seemed to calm down a bit afterwards. "Thanks. I would have been fine trying to get up the first time, but any time I try to move like that, I get dizzy, likely from the headache that I have. Shall we start heading to the washroom?" she asked her marefriend. Truth be told, she probably wouldn't have even considered a bath if her special somepony hadn't shown up, but because she was here, she would try to do what she can to make her friend happy.

Fire Heart carefully helped Ice sit up in her bed, watching to see how the blue unicorn would be. For a moment ice Storm looked like she was going to get dizzy and fall back into her bed, but to Fire's relief she seemed to rally and remain seated.

"Thanks. I would have been fine trying to get up the first time, but any time I try to move like that, I get dizzy, likely from the headache that I have. Shall we start heading to the washroom?"

"Right, I guessed that this illness is affecting your balance. I think I remembered having a similar illness when I was a filly. So as long as you move slowly and not exert yourself I think you can make it to the bathroom. Alright now to get you out of bed."

Fire Heart used her telekinesis to pull back the sheets from the bed so as not to let the poor unicorn get her legs wrapped in her bed. Doing so, however, made the pungent odor more apparent, making Fire wrinkle her nose a little. Was Ice so sick and dizzy that even making it to the bathroom proved to be a challenge? She tried to ignore it as she had one goal: helping her marefriend the best way she knew how. She wondered what else she could do besides helping Ice take a bath, but she knew it would come when she needed it.

"Now if you can just slowly spin around and put your back legs on the floor like you're sitting. Then just try to get out of bed and if you need to get steadied, i'll try to catch you. I think that'll work."
