Physique: SugarBelle is a lean pony, but due to her love of baking is a little soft in the middle

Residence: Starlight’s Sanctuary.

Occupation: Formerly Miserable Muffin Baker, now Happily baking sugary treats for all of the Santuary

Cutie Mark: A purple frosted cupcake with a cherry atop, little circular candies are falling around it

History: Sugar Belle was born and bred in Canterlot, her parents were well known food critics with a weekly column in the newspaper about the restaurants all over Equestria, tearing apart any small flaws they saw, no matter how wonderful the cook’s food looked or tasted, there was no room for perfection.

This hyper critical nature transferred onto their daughter’s work and ambitions too, her grades could always be better, her mane could always be neater, ect! Due to this (Well meant, they really just wanted the best for her) criticism Sugar Belle kept her love of baking to herself, reading about it, studying it, loving how it smelled, the process of working with dough, sugary delicious frosting made of butter, and sugar blended together? How could she stay away!

When she finally got her nerve together, the young filly put out a recipe and worked on it, following it to the letter(as well as a small child could anyways) but came across a problem, sure she could set the temperature of the oven but….she was going to have to ask her Mom for help using the stove… Hesitantly she tugged on her mother’s dress and sheepishly asked her to assist her, this was a surprise to her mother as she hadn’t even known the child was into baking! But none the less, the mare operated the oven so her daughter could spread her culinary wings, the end result being a slightly chewy, but delicious cupcake, that Sugar Belle covered in homemade butter cream and topped with a cherry! She was so happy, she loved the whole process so much that she KNEW that was what she was going to do! The cutie mark that soon appeared only solidified this goal in her mind.

Her parents were indeed proud but OF-COURSE her skills could always be improved! Sugar Belle was enrolled in Canterlot’s top culinary school, where she did her best to always present her best work, but as she grew older, and older her parents critical nature seemed to affect her more and more.

She couldn’t make muffins as good as THAT pony, why couldn’t she be better? Her frosting was never as creamy and smooth as this ponies...so many little flaws ! Sugar belle started to hate ever deciding she wanted to be a baker, how could she compete when she was so mediocre!?

With tears in her eyes she left Canterlot and her culinary school behind, thinking she’d be happier somewhere else, doing anything else but BAKING! Glaring down at the mark that used to bring her such pride, she wished she could get rid of it! Oh if ONLY she had known what she was getting herself into…

When she arrived in the Little Village, Star Light took her under her wing, showing her all the happy ponies free of their cutie marks, which for a while seemed wonderful, and Sugar Belle was easily convinced she’d be happier without hers still, so she let Starlight take her cutie mark and replace it with a = sign, to show she was just as good as every pony else, which was what she wanted...right?
Sadly no, as time went on, it got harder to flash that smile, to keep up her work wearing a dingy, white apron , making the same bland muffins over and over! It wasn’t too long before Sugar Belle had periods where she missed her cutie mark, but would quickly rebuke these thoughts! No that cutie mark had caused her misery and loneliness and she had so many friends now...didn’t she?

It was only when Twilight, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and Apple Jack showed up did Sugar Belle really miss her mark, seeing how all these different ponies of varying talents could co-exist together while not being “equal” in talent but equally important.

It was due to their strength, and watching them fight even after losing their marks that made Sugar Belle rise with the others to take back their cutie marks!

Now that she has her cutie mark back, Sweetie Belle has rediscovered why she loved baking so much in the first place! It was the creativity, the discovery, the glow in ponies faces when they ate something she put effort into! The small village is starting to thrive again, and she couldn’t be even happier to call it home, and whenever she starts to doubt her ability, she just thinks back to being “Exactly the same” as every pony else, and smiles, just glad to be herself.

Character Summary: Sugar Belle is a sweet, kind hearted mare, that is very empathetic towards others, and wears her heart on her sleeves, while she can be silly at times, she is also very sensitive, and is easily hurt by harsh criticism, however this is a flaw she’s hoping to get over, as living among the village is teaching her that not all criticism is unfounded and that it can come from a place of love.

Light hearted, fun loving, and with a sweet tooth to rival that of any sweet loving pony, Sugar Belle is happy to be expanding her culinary horizons!
