Rp Light Charmer

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Light Charmer

Sex: Male

Age: Older Colt, nearly a Stallion

Species: Unicorn

Eye colour: A deep, vibrant, passionate blue. When bored, his eyes are typically half-lidded or more, but when excited, his wide eyes seem to blaze like raging bonfires. (They are not actually on fire. They are merely alarmingly bright.)

Coat: A dark, eye-soothing shade of purple. He wears a thick cobalt scarf with four ends wrapped twice around his neck, the one visible tail hanging down the front of his chest like a tie. His scarf is enchanted to lengthen at will and function as a stronger extra limb, or fray and use its individual strands of fabric to drill into something, pull something apart, or pick something up gently and carefully. He usually keeps the other three tails hidden in reserve, to only be used when somepony tries to take his scarf away. It is tougher than an ordinary scarf, its toughness on par with spider silk, completely fireproof, immune to "Teleport Designated Object Somewhere Else" spells, and it can regenerate from damage and deflect spell blasts and beams. It can also wrap around his upper head to cover his eyes like a blindfold, enchantments woven into the fabric allowing him to see everything in a blueish hue within a 500-meter radius when this happens. The blueness is as if he was wearing large sunglasses with bright blue lenses, and though he could still read a closed book by focusing on each page in order and reading it, the book's paper would appear to be a pale blue with black writing, rather than white. He doesn't see through objects, he sees objects in their entirety and what's behind them, and he can focus on a particular viewpoint to get a higher-quality view of something, though the blue tint is still there. A similar blue tint affects his vision when he has his scarf reach up to cover one eye, closing the uncovered eye and scanning whatever is in front of him at every level, though this doesn't widen his field of view, merely enhance the regular vision of his covered eye. Finally, it can subtly and silently cast illusions on anypony within a close(200 meter) radius with the effectiveness of a fifth-level illusion spell. New ponies appearing to say or do something, Pegasus couriers appearing briefly to give a forged letter to somepony before flying off for their next delivery, making an orchestra pop up out of nowhere, and minor glamour illusions like making something look better than usual, making a pony seem far harder or easier to notice or implanting a thought subconsciously, all of these are within its power, though they become far less effective if the target realizes it's an illusion. If he is not in contact with his scarf, its powers are inert.

Mane/Tail: His mane is a spiked mop of somewhat dark blue, short at the front and longer at the back. It won't get into his eyes, but it can still billow dramatically in the wind if he wants it to. His tail, on the other hand, is quite long, long enough to drag along the ground when he isn't lifting it. Like any good tail, it can subtly grab objects when nopony is looking, and tie itself into a braid when things get serious and a long tail would only get in the way.

Physique: The fit and somewhat built physique of a casual runner, though he is decidedly not at a professional athlete's level, and such an athlete could easily outpace him.

Residence: He owns a sizeable apartment in Canterlot, though he typically stays in the top floor flat on one of his stores, the buildings openly designed with this in mind.

Occupation: Owner of a mail-order service and small chain of shops called Three Times The Charm. Catalogues are distributed in small stores staffed by ponies on his payroll, and most major towns with a good level of commerce and money have one of his stores. (There isn't one in Ponyville, however, and he is thinking of expanding there some time.) These shops sell fairly standard low-level items that can only be used a few times before the magic fades, wands become useless sticks, magical torches go out, magical armour becomes dead weight, and new ones must be bought. If you see an enchanted item on sale in the seasonal catalogues, or you have a specific request in mind, or even just an enchantment that you'd like placed on whatever object Light chooses or vice versa, you can order it, shipping and handling fees included in its high price. Custom orders cost extra, but the quality justifies the price in his mind and in general opinion. The better items he sells typically have a limited number of uses per day, in return for not running out of magic and not having to be renewed. He also amps up the price and exaggerates the cost of making things whenever he's given an order he doesn't want to make, such as something that will likely be used in an unsavoury manner, or worse, something utterly lame.

Cutie Mark: A vertical lighter-purple spear with an eight-pointed star-shaped light-blue glow with a white outline around it, representing his skill in enchanting.

History: Light Charmer was the youngest son of one of the fancier families in Canterlot, and was put on the fast track to glory, even if it wasn't the type of glory he wanted. On a fame, richness, and fanciness scale of one to ten, his family was a solid eight. His parents were skilled Magic Duellists, each famous for a certain spell, and their eldest son could not cast either of them, much to his irritation. The same went for Light Charmer, once he was powerful enough to try, and his parents mentioned this almost daily, hoping that they'd eventually become good enough to use and master those spells. Sure, both Light and Blue had very powerful magic, but Blue Sun's magical stamina was pretty bad, and Light's stamina was just downright sad. The elder brother compensated by furiously brute-forcing an opponent down within the first minute, loudly and boisterously crushing a foe while entertaining the crowd, and the younger was more reserved and analytical, waiting for just the right moment to apply just the right amount of magical force to win in as amusing a manner as possible. Light Charmer soon realized that enchanting an object with a spell, so he or others could use that spell later without it being tired to his horn, helped him partially overcome this flaw. And since the League rules said that only your own magic could be used, he was allowed to use magical items, provided they were all ones he could prove that he made himself. Blue Sun happily went into the Magic Duelling leagues, and Light was all but forced into it as well by his parents, who wanted their sons to be champions. After they both consistently won their matches, much to their parents joy, the time had come for the two brothers to do battle in the final round. Light spent a long time crafting, carving, and enchanting the strongest and fastest possible wooden axe-sword, putting pretty much everything useful on it, and several other less-useful enchantments that he used to throw others off. He also had other items, several other weapons, mainly made of wood due to safety rules, and some enchanted improvised armour. A wooden bucket with a eyeholes and a hornhole, several scarves of clashing colours coating his neck and back, more buckets on his hooves, a back-blanket that would float up to defend Light from stronger attacks and break after three blocks, several enchanted marbles and other objects carried within the hoof-buckets, and so on. When he arrived for the match in the best armour he could make at that age with what few materials he had, the crowd laughed.

The battle begun, and Light fought his far-stronger brother with unexpected items with even more unexpected enchantments, subtle illusions - which nopony even remotely expected - and the enchanted sword Light painstakingly crafted was used for nothing more than a big and ultra-glowy distraction and something to force his foe to dodge to a specific point during the wide-arcing shockwave-causing downward and horizontal sweeps. It was a very fast-paced battle, and it only lasted as long as it did because Light wanted to show off all of his gear, so that people would know of his brilliance when he retired some day to go into itemcrafting. The battle was won when a command-activated beautifying enchantment (He chose "Dance!" as the activation command, to be as unpredictable as possible while remaining easy to say) cast on a thrown bucket caused his brother to start badly flirting with said bucket after it was thrown at Blue's face and blocked, the opening allowing him to rapidly hogtie his elder brother with chains of scarves enchanted to be anti-magical and unbreakable by anything at his brother's magical power level or strength level. After the ten seconds the bucket's enchantment could be used for were up, Blue Sun snapped out of it. Amused that he'd actually been beaten by his adorable little younger brother, he submitted. After winning the duel, Light's Cutie Mark appeared, and he knew that he was going to become one of the greatest enchanters of all time.

Light did well in school, but as he grew older, he began to notice the fillies in his class. He continued to do well in terms of magic and knowledge, but he let his once-rigid hardcore studying schedule slip, as one or two nights a week were spent out at nightclubs and bars while under magical disguises, so his parents wouldn't know about it. An enchanted - and in his opinion, awesome - thick and colou-changing usually-blue jacket with white-feather trim prevented him from getting more than a little drunk as long as he wore it, and an enchanted blue eyemask hidden under his pillow when not wearing it helped with the lack of sleep. He became quite the troublemaker once disguised, and though he'd put on a magical disguise different from the usual one whenever he thought the night was going to go bad, it wouldn't stop him from rushing headfirst into danger and excitement to see what would happen, trusting his wits and magic to get him out of whatever problems arose. School began to bore him, as did most things, besides magic, fillies, awesome magical items, and all the crazy adventures and misadventures he went on without his parent's permission or knowledge.

When Light graduated, he quit the magical duelling league, kept the money he'd made by betting that he'd win, left his parents behind in mid-rant, and went into business as an enchanter and creator of powerful magical items. His fans happily bought what he had to sell, especially one of the Buckets of Beauty that took out the great Blue Sun, though this kept the ten-second limit for the sake of accuracy and nostalgia. He began to make a name for himself when it came to magical armour and tools, and saw creating his own store chain to distribute catalogues as the next logical step, with some of his favourite 'Close friends' from his bar-hopping adventures working as shopkeepers, forcing them to wear any silly, cute, or amusing outfit he picked out for them in the name of comedy. Most of them were okay with this, and the ones that weren't only grumbled a little while not outright refusing the job, because how many ponies get a chance to work for the next big name in magical items? When he can easily afford it, he'll expand into another town and have another store built for him, but he's content to let them handle running the individual stores while he oversees them all, living on the first floor of whichever town's Three Times The Charm store he's staying in that week as he travels the world in search of excitement, powerful magic to use in items, and interesting fillies and mares.

When Light decided he wanted a pet, he searched around for a day or two, and ended up finding a strange-looking fox the size of a regular-sized dog. He named her Flare, and when he travels, she usually travels with him, when she isn't lazing around his flat or reading. Whenever something funny happens, Flare is usually in the background, smiling and quietly making a weird laughing-fox sound, only jumping in to help when Light gives a subtle signal. She's a Kitsune, and Light knows this, but it annoys Flare when he tells other ponies that it's "Just some funny-looking fox. Probably messed with by magic, that would explain the illusions, and the fire-spitting, and the reading habits, and the multiple tails".

Character Summary: Light is, first and foremost, a thrillseeker. He wants action, he wants excitement, and above all, he wants a challenge. He'll happily trot straight into danger, Every day, he first enjoys an hour of exercising that he somewhat enjoys, followed by an hour of studying that he enjoys considerably more, and then he goes out to boredly wander the world if he hasn't already planned something to do that day. He has little respect for tradition, formality or whatever the 'Proper' way to behave is, as he dances to the beat of his own drum like any good genius willing to face the future rather than hide in tradition, though he plays this up as an excuse whenever he accidentally or intentionally breaks some unwritten rule, like ignoring the cultery and using your magic to eat your meal, enchanting your food to taste better, or sitting down before the host does, or tastefully flirting with somepony in the middle of an event where that "Simply isn't done". (As in a very formal dinner, not a funeral. Even he has some standards.)

How much of his 'Easily-bored genius that loves recognition' demeanour is an act and how much is genuine is uncertain, but when a pony is boring him, he'll tell them, though how he tells them depends on the pony. However, when it comes enchantments, he's one of the best in the field, and though he usually tries to hide it with a "Yeah, I rule. What else is new?" attitude, he's actually very passionate about discovering new enchantments and effects, and the art of enchanting in general. He doesn't say this often, but a large part of why he likes enchanting is because the way he sees it, real Magic (Unicorn magic) is awesome. Therefore, as magical items are one of the few ways non-Unicorns can use "Real magic", it allows other Ponies, and even Non-Ponies, to be awesome in ways they wouldn't normally be capable of. (Though he wouldn't openly call it Real Magic around somepony likely to object to that.) Plus, if you had the option of making the world and those within it better or worse, you'd choose to make them better, wouldn't you? Though he'd never force an enchantment upon somepony against their will, even if he thought it'd genuinely improve their lives.

If he sees a new mare, or filly, or anything female within his age group or older, he will strike up a conversation, and shamelessly flirt with her if she interests him. He has a fairly complex system within his head, where certain traits add points to the lady's likability score and others take them away, and if her score is too low, he loses interest, though he'll never tell anypony about this system or what their score is. It also doesn't have to be female, he simply prefers it that way. He doesn't let rejection get him down for long, and any who tries to rant at him for being a "dirty lying cheating smelly philanderer" is likely to get a far harsher rant in response, as self-righteousness is one of the few things he genuinely hates, along with needless cruelty, habitual liars, wasteful ponies and nonponies, tradition, people trying to control others without good reason, and people questioning his abilities and intelligence. He's done many things, like any good, adventurous young stallion, but he finds it somewhat hard to stay focused on boring stuff, and when he's bored, a particularly cute mare or filly walking past is enough to grab his attention and cause him to follow her, a charming smile forming on his face. Still, he was once far more easily-distracted than he currently is when it comes to mares and fillies, and he is slowly getting better. Albiet very, very slowly. Flirting is a part of who he is, and if a friend is feeling down, the first thing he's likely to suggest is to talk about it, and if they don't want to talk or if they need cheering up, then they can hit the nearest tavern, pub or bar, and he'll help them find somepony (or something) nice. Somehow, events always conspire to end up with the most amusing temporary matches possible whenever he tries to play matchmaker, whether he wants things to go that way or not. However, while he has plenty of friends and acquaintances, and business contacts, and 'Close friends', mainly mares and the rare stallion drinking buddy and wingpony or old Magic Duel rival/sparring partner... he doubts he'll ever actually find a true friend, or that anypony would ever truly like somepony like him if he didn't butter them up like bread.

Hello!  I'm Rackenhammer, friendly neighborhood RP helper!  I'll be your guide through the application process.

Minor point first; the section labels on an application are usually bolded and separated by line breaks for the sake of readability.  I took the liberty of making those edits myself, as I know how much of a pain they can be.  :)

Second point; a pet kitsune goes a little beyond canon lore for what creatures are in Equestria, and site rules about acceptable pets.  It's about on the same level as having a pet manticore or bugbear.

Third, and most important point, those are some artifact-level pieces of gear you have!  It goes somewhat beyond the acceptable power level in the World of Equestria setting, which is more of a slice-of-life board.  I think Light Charmer, as written with his capabilities and equipment, would fit in more in Canterlot Chronicles, which is a setting geared more towards adventure-type stories and characters.

Absent those concerns, the character is well written and well-defined!  Hope this feedback is helpful.

Thank you for editing the thing. Also, I'm not going to use the ultra-glowy Sword of Obvious Distractions or anything similarly in RP. Don't tell anyone, but I secretly don't think swords are all that cool. An enchanter outwitting foes with enchanting, one of the most useless types of magic... that seems cooler. The only things he'll usually have on him are his scarf and saddlebag of holding, and his jacket when disguised or going to bars. And he sometimes doesn't even have the bags, just the scarf.

If I added that his saddlebags could also give him breath mints for no apparent reason besides humour, would that be funny? Or just nonsensical and broken?

Also, if I qualify for this, that means I'm good enough to enter the others, right?

Edit: Forgot to mention the kitsune. Alright. Can I nerf that down to a regular fox with a magical collar?

It's actually the scarf I was referring to rather than the sword; there's just a little too much magic in it for me to be entirely comfortable with letting it into the WoE board.  Multiple spells it can cast, indestructibility, illusions, immunity to theft... it's just a little OP.  I know what you mean about outwitting with enchanting, but given that, I also happen to know how powerful an artifact like that scarf and those saddlebags can be, in the hands of a clever user.

The fox with a magic collar might work, it depends on what enchantments were on it.

And yes, any character approved for the World of Equestria board can be played on any other.

Fox's collar: Illusion, level 5. I'm assuming Twilight can cast at level 9, like most top-level characters.

As for the scarf, I'm thinking I can lose either the wide-degree vision or the Scan Magic vision. I'm not sure he needs both. Also, it isn't theft-immune, only immune to teleport-theft. (I once played a game as a Technomage, with armour summed up as the son of War Machine's suit and Lex Luthor's suit, with many guns and cold iron weaponry to compensate for the dumb "Humans are the least magical race, and technology is stuck in the dark ages unless war is involved" and "Elves automatically beat humans a la Goku VS Yamcha" houserules. When an elf misused Teleport to take away everything on my equipment list and gear list as a free action, leaving my character bared to the world in more ways than one, cast a stun spell, and then went Highlander on my character with his Drizz't swords, all in the same post I knew it was time to find a better board.

Of course, this board won't be as bad as that board. No elves, for one thing. Plus, the MLP fandom is the best fandom.

That's what I mean, though.  Nobody's going to fight you on the WoE board, it's not a combat setting, unlike Canterlot Chronicles.  That's why we have separate application areas for each.  Powers and items appropriate in the latter setting are not in the former, hence why separate "versions" of characters are usually made.

Think of it this way: what would Light Charmer use the scarf for in his day-to-day business of making and selling stuff?  That's what would be in the World of Equestria Application.

What would Light Charmer want in a scarf that he was wearing on an adventure?  That's what would be in the Canterlot Chronicles application.

In his day-to-day business, he'd use it for carefully picking up and turning around items he works on, chopping vegetables, and so on. And also making lighthearted illusions, or to help him in social situations. Though I guess the saddlebags might not be worn regularly.

As for Canterlot Chronicles, he'd have the same scarf, and usually wear the saddlebags, too. The enhanced vision and illusions would still be useful, just for different things.

Right, so just edit this application to reflect the changes, and post the more full version on the Canterlot Chronicles application page, and then I can move this app along!
