Hiatus 2015 - Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Well, here we go..
The last episode before a hiatus,

'm saddened that Hasbro has to split this season into half. They should've announced it at least a week in advance, so that we won't get caught off-guard that the next episode is actually the last episode for months. Oh well, whatever their decision may be, I'm still confident that the second half would be awesome. After all, Season 5's superb so far!

but why are they doing this and how long is this one going to be ?

Think about this for a second, darling.

1. Primary target audience between 3-7 is all over Minions and Peppa Pig, latter even shocking me with its stats.

2. Primary target audience between 7-11 still prefers Monster High over EQG.

3. Secondary target audience - aka the fandom - collapsing.

4. View ratings on Discovery Family flying low.

Sound very much like an emergency change in plans. I'm pretty sure Hasbro darlings have learnt from the Twilicorn incident and is now giving the writers actual time to change tactics according to their newest plan. I would not rule out the possibility of them 'saving what can be saved'.

I believe it was mentioned at the panel the reason why the hiatus was due to them switching over to the third EQG film. Either way while I wished they had planned better to avoid things like having that three week break between episodes 99 and 100, a mid season hiatus seems to be becoming the norm in shows so perhaps it's simply DHX and Hasbro picking up on that for their benefit. If it leads to better episodes, than I certainly won't mind it at all.

I'm fine with an intermission, especially in light of us getting Season 6 this year. That means in the next 5 months, we're going to finish out this season and start Season 6. In a larger scope of things, this is much better than the previous hiatus we had between S4 and S5!

First two points, yeah, performance with the target audience is definitely the most important thing, but for the third point I've seen no signs the fandom is "collapsing". The only people I see saying that are bitter doomsayers who want that to happen. There's no denying fandom has regressed from the peak it was at in 2011/2012, but the bottom isn't going to suddenly just drop out. From everything I can perceive there's still a lot of crazy excitement out there for the show and a lot of fan content being generated.

As for the fourth point, the low ratings thing is a completely silly point that far too big a deal is made out of. It's Discovery Family's best rated show easily even in weeks when the ratings do dip on occasion. The ratings are not low for the network or for a children's cartoon on a network of that tier in general. They are in fact elevated, which considering most of the secondary audience have shifted to watching online (if they weren't watching there already) is impressive. I would really doubt that the network is in any way displeased with how the series is doing right now.

As I see it, this is probably either just to give them more time and ultimately keep the breaks shorter (people didn't like waiting a year for season five) or just some scheme to try and garner more ratings for the show--split seasons seem to be something big networks sometimes do with popular series after all. In a way it makes sense as it will leave us hungrier when the third EQG comes out and then when the season starts again. Another possible motive--holiday tie-ins. On the leaked season five episode list I see titles for what are likely new Halloween and Christmas themed episodes; it's reasonable to assume they simply want to line those up so that they can take advantage of them as being special episodes for the series.

I was not aware of any hiatus!

It would have made sense if they slapped a little bit at the end saying.. "More FIM coming...." like my other shows that have split seasons.  Normally I would have been like = :wail:  However, most of my other shows are starting to pop up, so I'm cool....For now...

From what I've heard.. They're going to release the third EQ Girls movie (Out on video, not in the theaters) and then we'll get the second part of the series after that.

Now that the hiatus is shorter than expected, do you think we'll ever find out why there was a hiatus?

Think we'll get any more mini-hiatuses when the show comes back?

We never get any information. There's your answer.

I hope we don't get another hiatus until the hiatus between S5 and S6.
