brianblackberry Posted August 23, 2015 Report Share Posted August 23, 2015 Canon and Fandom Well as romance is not a major part of the show, we have only a few opposite sex couples established in canon: Mr. & Mrs. CakeRarity's ParentsShining Armor & CadenceTwilight's ParentsThose background couples we briefly see during the Hearts & Hooves song that the CMC sing.There are a few background ponies that are implied as such from time to time as we occasionally see an adult male and female pony with a foal.As for fanon, well we have a ton: Twilight, Fluttershy, or Dash with Big mac is fairly commonApplejack x CaramelApplejack or Dash with Soarin'Pinkie Pie with Cheese Sandwich, or Pinkie Pie with Pokey PierceSometimes Dash or Fluttershy or Little Strongheart with BraeburnTwilight and Flash SentryRarity and SpikeWhooves and DerpySoarin' and SpitfireScootaloo and RumbleThunderlane with either Cloudchaser, Flitter, Rarity, or even Lightening Dust.Sure there are more... Don't forget Fleur-de-lis and Fancy Pants, that one's all but canon, and when it isn't, Rarity x Fancy Pants gets shipped a lot. 'Muffins' or Rose and Doctor WhoovesTime Turner sees a lot of use. Saw a comic that shipped (sort of...) the grey mare with Pokey Pierce as well. Cranky and Matilda is canon, and Sunset Shimmer x Human!Flash Sentry was, at one point, canon to EQG. There was fanon for a while that Starswirl was intimately tied with one or the other of the Sisters. And Button-Masher x Sweetie Bell has a lot of traction for a ship in which one of the two participants is essentially a background character turned OC, and neither is old enough to hold a job. Also, not sure if it counts, but Angel certainly ACTS like Fluttershy's (sometimes jealous, usually quite demanding) boyfriend >.> If you add the comics, there are a LOT of background couples, and at least three mares after Big Macintosh, plus a mare (can't recall her name) shipped with Flim and/or Flam. Honestly, as far as canon or near-canon relationships go I can actually only think of two offhoof that AREN'T heterosexual, and one of those is ambiguous as to whether it's Phileo, Eros, or Storge they're being ambiguous about.
