Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Shiori Rin

Sex: Female

Age: Young Adult Mare

Species: Ryuma

Eye Color: A dark brown

Coat: A dark greyish blue with flecks of periwinkle scales dotting her cheeks, back, and flanks. She had a more solid series of scales and more dragonish underbelly.

Mane and Tail: Black and usually kept up in a bun on top of her head.

Physique: Due to her extensive training and experience in her clan’s work. Rin is covered in lean and toned muscle.  Her build, while mostly built for speed still pack a good amount of strength. Her wing (the organic one anyway) is well muscled and her feathers allow her to move silently regardless of the speed she is flying.

Residence: Wherever her current job is, that is where she is.

Occupation: Ninja bodyguard for hire… still hoping to find permanent employment with someone worth protecting.

Cutie Mark: A shuriken with shadowy wisps drifting off of it.

Many members of the Shiori clan get their marks during sparring sessions. Rin was just another one of these cases. Even as a filly she proved to be very good at sparring in the in the past but one day she had trouble fighting a particularly tough and boisterous opponent who was the heir to her clan’s leader.

When she was up to bat at this arrogant Ryuma she suffered several losses from him. He seemed to be able to shrug off or easily counter any traditional martial art or movements she attempted.

This changed when she began working on her speed rather than brute strength as she felt she wasn’t going to be able to ever be able to beat him there. Instead she focused on moving faster and striking vulnerable areas and dodging his attacks. Her practice paid off one day when at her latest match went on long enough that the sun began to set. When her back hoof managed to land in a shadow and seemed to disappear while the challenger was in a hold that had him tapping out before he knew it.
Unique Traits:

Shadowspeed: From her years honing it, Rin has more or less perfected a technique that has allowed her to move faster than even the most advanced mind has immense difficulty processing without magical assistance, and the average or lesser minds she can seem to have outright teleported. While using her speed she seems to be able to severely weaken how the air reacts to her presence. When she moves past or behind anyone there is no gust that hints to her presence. There is a downside to this talent though, as in order to be flying at her fasted she needs to start moving from a place in the shadows or just the slightest bit shady. Without that she has to really on a normal flight speed of a Ryuma who regularly exercises. One sunny days or well lit rooms she’s at a considerable disadvantage. Even when she's in the shadows she's only in her undetectable state for the duration she's moving. She must be in the shadow of something order for her to use this technique.

Hoof to hoof and weapons training: Her years of training have resulted in a knowledge of fighting that few can hope to match. Her muscles having been trained and taught many movements that have made her a difficult creature for regular non trained ponies to defeat easily. Her primary method of fighting is using pragmatic tactics and feints, and regularly attacks the most vulnerable areas of anatomy, and having studied many potential species she could wind up fighting at some points she’s knowledgeable of pressure points and spots to hit when the moments present themselves. In her life she has learned how to effectively wield many small edged weapons, her favorite being a small Tanto that was given to her by her grandfather.

Poison arts: Rin as one would expect of someone in her profession is very well versed in the knowledge of poison brewing. Despite the knowledge she has she has only ever used non-lethal, fast acting paralysis brews and regularly coats most of her weapons in the same concoctions… over the years she has been working on giving herself an immunity to such poisons and proven only half successful.

Stealth training: Rin's use of stealth is in no way magical. Her methods of using it mostly involve dark clothing and positioning herself in the shadows so the unobservant aren't able to see her... without her Ninja garb on she's just as awkward looking as any creature you'd see trying to hide in corner of wall.

Breath Magic: Rin's immunity to changes in the wind when she is moving through the shadows is actually based on an advanced breath magic technique in relation to her talent. It is what allows her to prevent the change in air pressure that can alert most skilled to her presence and prevents her from causing great gusts with her speed. While she has specialized in her own unique way to use her own magic, Rin has been taught some abilities in other schools of basic elementalism magics of her kind. She cannot hope to match a Kilin's breath with her own in terms of raw power or quantity, but she has learned some useful techniques to help her along. She has taken time to learn moderate flame based magic so she can breath fire and take opponents off guard, While she has learned how to manipulate she is still having a bit of trouble fully holding in her flames at times... usually a sneeze can accidentally set off her flames but it's usually not anything that a fire extinguisher can't cure. She has learned some basic sustained lightning magic, while that may sound impressive... it has terrible range and the only way she's found a good way to use it would be to channel it into her Tanto to non-lethally electrocute the one it makes contact with. She has also learned some useful magic in order to strengthen the weave of her clothes; this means she has been able to make her cloth armor have the properties of tough leather instead of a thin sheet.

History:

Born to a secretive ninja village clan in one of a rural areas in a secluded plain nestled in the mountains of her lands, Rin was more or less set up to have a much-less-than normal life. Despite the lack of normalcy, Rin took to her fate as a member of her clan with gusto. Since she was a small Foal she had heard tales of many heroic exploits that her clan took part in back in their “hayday”. Back when they served the highest offices in the lands… until something happened that got them disgraced and with the changing of the times they began their work as mercenaries.

Grandpa Hanzo was a substandard former member but he knew the basics of combat and taught all he knew to his granddaughter despite her parent’s protests. She spent many days skipping school and practicing, until she finally made it into her clan’s private Ninja academy hidden beneath the mountain. It was actually rather interesting, they had classes in various subjects suited to both Kirin and Longma to make them into great mercenaries and experts in sabotage, kidnapping, and bodyguard work.

During her time there she’d spent most of her time studying and working hard in all her classes. There were many different paths that her fellow students took. It was fascinating to hear all the nuanced ways that her clan had made use of themselves since her grandpa’s story’s took place. There weren’t as many traditional ninja as she’d hoped. Some of the stuff she did learn was pretty useful! Including poison making, mostly paralysis, sleep and disorientating stuff.

Once she approached her teenage years she began the more trial based missions including sabotaging merchants in their lands from getting to where they needed to go and stealing their supplies. On one particular mission she made a very costly mistake and the merchant carriage belonging to some griffins. One of the carriage’s guards got a very damaging hit on her wing… a hit bad enough that she was going to be out of commission for a while. The damage done had resulted in her left wing needing to be replaced with a prosthesis. Given the land she comes from and the support and resources of her clan. It was hardly a problem to get.

Within a few months The mare was back on her hooves and in the field again. However her belief in the clan became shaken when she learned their clan’s leader: A dangerous, cunning, Ninja who was known to all other clans only as “The Jorogumo”. Was actually selling her clan’s services and providing agent’s to a shadowy organization named W.R.A.I.T.H. not long after the attacks on the Crystal empire in Equestria...This shocked the young shinobi to her core and she left her clan, in the hopes of finding assistance to help her stop this travesty and restore her clan to the way it was… like the noble-hearted, but pragmatic ninja of the past.

It was shortly after she set off on her own that she realized the chances of her being able to topple one of (if not THE) most powerful and influential Ninja clans in the land were… calling them slim would be incredibly generous and nearly nonexistent just being charitable. So instead of seeking to topple her home village she decided to establish a clan on her own… and while she’s at it learn exactly how she could do that. For now she felt she should start with the basic way her grandfather told her the clan began… with a cunning and talented young warrior of their past offering their service to a young lord who promised to repay them for the times they have saved their life with lands, and status of her own that would allow her to bring in more kirin and longma and go from there!

… and now the hunt for a “Lord” or a “Lady” is on!

Character Personality:

Rin seems to have two settings: One being her ‘professional but passionate” mode, and the other being her “Awkward, nervous, stammer-ridden” mode.

One her times when she’s not hidden behind dark clothes and an ornamental mask she often remarks she feels naked and embarrassed… despite the constant lack of clothes in many races. To deal with this she tends to wear yukatas, usually ones long enough to hide her cutie mark in places where it might stick out.

In civil settings, Rin is far from an expert socialite. Her interactions are usually plagued with instances of surprised looks when someone makes contact. Despite what may be appear to be a negative reaction to an attempt at social interaction, The young Ryuma is actually rather civil to all people she meets by her clan’s standards. Amongst almost everyone she tends to use Honorifics in the context of how she has known or gets to know them.

Rin has enjoyed quite a few pastimes one of her favorite hobbies has been sewing. While she’s not particularly good at it she keeps trying and was the one who wove her Yukata; although any seamstress worth her salt could tell that the handiwork on it is amateurish. In addition to sewing she has a strange fascination with comic books from Equestria… especially some of the more silly silver age ones and has an additional love for “Western films” produced by that country as well. Her love of these forms of media having started back when she was a filly and one of her friend’s at school showed her some film reels from Equestria.

When she wears her costume and make, Rin can almost seem like a different person than the embarrassed and occasionally gushy mare that most people meet. She plays her role as a shinobi from the lands to the east very well and does her best to not let her employer down, although she has been known to turn on employers and side with others because they either pay her more or her ideals in regards to the current situation tend to line up better than her current arrangement… that or she just lost slipped up or lost a scuffle.

While Rin is indeed a promising little ninja from the lands to the east, she has been proving to be strangely picky of those she works for and despite the quality of her services never faltering she has shown a tendency to quit shortly after if she feels those who are employing her are not on the up and up by her standards. There have been a few instances of her switching sides mid-assignment and as a result of her scruples she has often found herself having to do various odd-jobs in her travels to make ends meet. Another flaw of hers would be the fact that she is a terrible liar and infiltrating if talking is involved; one story still told in the academy back home is that in a test where all she had to do to pass was say something with a straight face… instead she practically shouted from the top of her lungs, “I’MNOTASHINOBI!” and throwing a smoke-bomb at the floor before darting out of the room. Another flaw she has is a terrible sense of direction and can get lost very easily in many situations.

There are many things Rin holds dear to her but four things she always carries with her include a straw hat and Ornamental Tanto from her grandfather Hanzo, The Uniform she got when she graduated from the academy, and her prosthetic wing which while she is still slightly self conscious about, has grown to love despite it’s quirks and occasional inconveniences.

Despite the hardships she faces in the world as she works to restore her clan to the honorable group it once was… even if she has no idea how at the moment, she refuses to give up on that goal. She believes deep down that once she finds the “Lord” or “Lady” she is looking for she will be able to make it as she goes from there.

Hi! I've done a review on this for you :)

Looks good, I have only one suggestion: her first two talents combined seem a little much. Both being undetectable if she wants to be and the best around in combat makes her seem a bit ummm godlike? I forget the term... Anyway, if you could tone down one or the other I think that would be good.

Once that's done in good with moving this on!

I'm sorry, I didn't think I made her sound like she was the best. I was trying to make her seem skilled as she's been training most of her life in this stuff given her cirumstances. I'll be happy to tone it down a bit though if you really feel that it's necessary. After all, It will give her something to work towards!

In regards to her being able to become undetectable anytime she wants, I Thought I'd made it clear that she can't move at that speed anytime she's out of the shadows and is entirely visible when she's not moving in them.
