Now is the time to repost our 'two-tier' tiebreaker system, it's the exact same one we used the past two seasons:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now, with the 'playoffs' looming in a few weeks, here's the tie-breaking method we'll use just in case two or more game players end up with an equal number of points/wins at the end of Week 17.

Basically, we're going to employ a two-tier tiebreaking system that shall be based on regular season game play.

Tie-breaker #1: Number of weeks participating in the game

This will be the first tie-breaker. For example, if Player A and Player B each end the season with 12 points/wins, with Player A having picked teams in 15 weeks while Player B picked in all 17 weeks, then Player B wins the tie-breaker due to number of weeks participation.

(UPDATE - A "DQ" counts as a week 'not played' since that result cannot be used to calculate the Tier Two Tie-Breaker)

However, if two or more players are tied AND they've played equal number of weeks in the game, then it falls to Tie-Breaker #2:

Tie-Breaker #2 - Points differential

If two or more players are tied in points/wins AND have equal weeks of participation, then all of the games with teams they selected will be examined. Margins of victory/defeat will be added up and the higher total number of margin points will win the tie-breaker. Margins of victory will be added as POSITIVE numbers while margins of defeat will be NEGATIVE numbers for the purpose of this calculation. It is highly unlikely that in THIS scenario that there would still be a tie.

IF there are still tied numbers after this, the tie-breaker of last resort will be a coin flip.

Order of finish in the regular season will be VERY important when it comes to the playoff portion of our game.

With 2 weeks to go in the regular season, here's how the Regular Season points total stands.

Keep in mind, order of finish will be important for the Playoff Rounds that will begin after the Regular Season ends:

First Place:  Mojo   14pts  (owns the Tier 2 tie-breaker over Gerrard 186-158, could only drop to Second Place if Gerrard overtakes him in points OR with a tie in points and a loss of 27 points in Tier 2 tie-breaker with Gerrard)

Second Place:  Gerrard 14pts (locked in Second due to Tier 1 tie-breaker advantage over Riverhippo - can jump to First Place by overtaking Mojo in points or tying with Mojo in points while gaining 27 points in the Tier 2 tie-breaker with Mojo)

Third Place:  Riverhippo   12pts  (Can finish no higher than Third due to Tier 1 disadvantage with Gerrard and Mojo, could drop to Fourth Place only with two losses and Tacobob winning the last two games)

Fourth Place:  Tacobob  10pts   (Can finish no lower that Fourth, could take Third Place ONLY with two straight wins and two straight losses by Riverhippo due to Tier 1 advantage over River)

Fifth Place:  Brianblackberry  6pts (Can finish no lower than Fifth UNLESS SteelEagle gets two straight wins to overtake Brian in points)

Sixth Place:  SteelEagle  5pts (Can finish no longer than Sixth Place UNLESS he gets two straight wins to overtake Brian in points)

Seventh Place:  IceStorm  3pts  (Securely in Seventh Place)

So, as was the case with past two seasons, order of finish will determine selection order for the playoff rounds of this game.

And so, here are the rules for the NFL Modified Elimination Pool Game PLAYOFF Challenge which will begin after all the games in Week 17 are finished!

In each round of the NFL playoffs, all teams playing games that week will be part of a selection pool.

The HIGHEST ranked player will select their winning team for that week first, then the next highest ranked player, and so on until all players have a unique team picked. For the purposes of the NFL playoffs, players will NOT be allowed to select the SAME team as anyone else. This is why our 'regular season' mattered. It set up the picking order for the playoffs.

After that week's playoff games are done, those who picked winning teams will get to pick teams the following week. All those who pick losing teams will, as in the real NFL playoffs, be eliminated from further playoff action. The game will continue either until there remains one single winning player or the end of the Super Bowl, depending on who 'survives' each playoff round. It is also possible with this system that, under a certain set of circumstances, that no players will remain.

Each week of the Playoffs is basically a 'new game' with the changing 'Selection Pool' so players are free to choose different teams for each proceeding round.
